Visited The Old Plough on a busy Sunday and sat by a lovely window seat. It’s always bustling here, which is a good sign! As you can see on my receipt we ordered food at 5.24 , We ordered drinks and two courses—main and dessert—but shortly after ordering, around 5.45 (20 mins after ordering) , a woman (who seemed like the manager) dropped a blackboard on our table stating “Reserved from 6PM” without a word. I was caught off guard, especially as we hadn't been informed about this prior to ordering and getting comfortable, so I had to chase her down to clarify that we'd already placed an order. To their credit, the food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious—definitely a highlight. However, after finishing our mains, we were asked to move to a different table for dessert, which was frustrating. I understood they might need the table, but the table was free once we had arrived and ordered our food but the lack of communication and the fact that we were clearly paying customers (who had spent over £100) felt a little disrespectful. We should not have to suffer due to the lack or your logistics in house. We moved, but the new table just didn’t have the same atmosphere or comfort as the first one. While they offered us a complimentary half-pint of beer each, it didn’t really make up for the inconvenience, especially since we were already ready to leave after the meal. Overall, the food was great, and the location is perfect, but the customer service and the way the situation was handled left a lot to be desired. We felt like second class citizens and that a table of 5 were far more important than us.

We have consistently been coming here for well over 10 years, so somewhere between 70 - 100+ meals with family and friends. We have never had a bad or average experience. The food is always of the highest standard, the staff are always friendly and accommodating and the selection of food and drink is just right. I believe between us we had tried everything on the menu and we always leave in a great mood. When we're planning on meeting old friends or new ones, we always try to book here first. Even in winter with the heaters on outside, it's a warm and very friendly place. Our children and their friends love the place as well.

Arriving at the Old Plough it's popularity is obvious when you cannot get a parking spot. Not that the car park is small and luckily there is parking on roads in the area. We had a warm welcome at the bar and were quickly shown to our table amidst the throng of people having lunch. Only one small negative is that conversations are hard as it so busy and everyone is chatting. We had drinks and then ordered from the extensive menu offering full, filling lunches with specials on the board and also light lunches for those with smaller appetites. I think that is so refreshing as often light lunch menus (inc sandwiches etc) are restricted to certain times. Friendly staff, efficient service, we didn't have to wait long for our mains and they were all very good. The prices are reasonable and match the general cost of food in restaurants/bars in the area. Coffee service was a bit slow, but we were in no real rush. The desserts on offer were wide ranging and very tempting. The Old Plough has a very comfortable atmosphere, is clearly very popular with locals and visitors. I would definitely recommend to friends and would return again. Mind you I think when booking a table for lunch it might be wise to go early or go late to avoid the crowds (and get a parking space).

If you're looking for a pub experience that feels like a warm hug from an old friend, The Old Plough in Cobham is the place to be! I recently popped in for a pint, and let me tell you, it was like stepping into a cozy sitcom where everyone knows your name (or at least pretends to). The decor is a delightful mix of rustic charm and quirky knick-knacks that make you feel like you've wandered into your eccentric aunt's living room. The beer selection is top-notch, with enough variety to make even the most indecisive drinker happy. I went for a pint of their finest ale, and it was so good I almost considered moving in. The staff are the real stars of the show here. They're friendly, funny, and seem to have an endless supply of witty banter. I half-expected them to break into a comedy routine at any moment. Service was quick, and they even laughed at my terrible jokes, which earns them extra points in my book. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with a mix of locals and newcomers all enjoying the good vibes. It's the kind of place where you can strike up a conversation with a stranger and leave feeling like you've made a new friend (or at least a drinking buddy). In short, The Old Plough is a gem of a pub. Whether you're in the mood for a laugh, a chat, or just a really good pint, this is the spot. I'll definitely be back, and next time, I might even bring my own jokes!

I had just visited Brooklands museum and wanted a pub with good food. I found the pub by searching ‘good food nearby’. The reviews were all excellent. The car park was full and the parking in the road was full too, it was clearly popular. There weren’t any free tables (booking is necessary) we managed to get a table in the bar area, however only had an hour. The staff work incredibly hard and quickly. The food was excellent, I had mackerel pate to start, husband had prawn cocktail. I had roast chicken for my main course and husband steak and Guinness pie. The roast potatoes and the quality of chicken were exceptional. I cannot recommend this pub enough. I am very much looking forward to returning. Thank you for such good quality food and service.

So it was all squash together. Red cabbage, which was not nice some cabbage and under cooked broccoli. Tasteless. We feel with had end of evening veg. As on other tables, they had carrots and poss swede in the normal dish. The starters were fine except I had a burt piece of toast which was replaced. It's put us off returning.

Came for Sunday lunch with high expectations from the reviews, but had a very average experience. Service It was nice of staff to accommodate us earlier than our booking, but we had to ask to be served. The pub was busy but of the many wait staff none made eye contact or acknowledged us as we waited to order. We then had to chase our cold starters after waiting 25 minutes for service. Mains arrived in good time. Food We had the two course Sunday lunch for £25.50 each. Starters of mackerel paté and Bang Bang salad were good but nothing special or memorable. The roast lamb was well-cooked: very tender and tasty, served with enough gravy to please a sauce-lover. Yorkshire pudding didn’t come included, but when requested was served promptly, fresh out of the oven and very good. The meal was sorely let down by the insipid potatoes which were more baked than roasted, lacking seasoning, flavour and texture. The vegetable sides were not seasoned or buttered; the squash was watery and bland, and everything else just boiled. When the star of the plate is cooked so well, but you come away knowing you’ll forget the meal very quickly and wouldn’t want to come back, it’s a real shame.

So let down by our visit today. We spent over £50 on the visit but were spoken to like dirt by the Manager. We were told to move table even though no signs had been placed on the table to say it was reserved. As a party of 4 were told that we could move to a table of 2. We asked for 2 extra chairs and waited for them to be brought over (otherwise we would have just been stood holding our drinks.) The Manager then reappeared and rudely said "I'm ACTUALLY going to need this table now!" to which we replied we were waiting for the extra chairs. An eyeroll later and we were told to move to another table. Such a let down since we have visited many times and it is our local pub. The bar staff are very friendly but she ruined our experience. We will go to The Bear next time. Much more welcoming. Everyone has a bad day but don't take it out on customers.

I decided on the special, which was ribs and when it arrived, it was 3 racks of ribs which were superb!! My daughter only had garlic bread with chips (boo!) but we were well attended to. Service was great (although the manager took our drinks order when we sat down and promptly forgot them!). The only slight downside on the day was it was quite noisy. It was busy with quite a lot of 'older' people and it was the week before Christmas, so excusable really.

I was part of a group of friends who get together every year to celebrate this Xmas time of year. The table was booked in October, well in advance. We had to choose our food from a set menu, which we completed and duly returned. When we arrived, the waitress had no idea what we had previously ordered. 4 of us had ordered Prawn Cocktail, which was the most horrendous pre-chilled straight from the fridge starter, I had ever experienced. Absolutely no flavour, 3 small prawns, one whole prawn, no lemon, and pea shoots in abundance, all in a watery white sauce. Disgusting. The main courses were thrown together, and clearly not up to their usual standard. I have been a frequent customer for many years, and have always enjoyed the excellent service and high standards of food. I’m so upset this establishment has followed in the footsteps of so many other successful restaurants by disregarding the customer and dishing up inedible food. By relying on their former reputation as being a first class Gastro Pub, I do hope the warning signs will be a wake up call and return to how their core customers expect the same high quality food of the past.

We were bowled over as soon as we walked in, by the delightful room and the warm welcome we received. The meal didn't disappoint either; a proper pie (not meat with a separate pastry top), accompanied by delicious mash, red cabbage and roasted carrots (exceptionally tasty). The free wine was a generous glass of red Shiraz of good quality. Encouraged by the very enjoyable first course, two of us opted to have a Dissarono Affogato for dessert. Again, this did not disappoint, being two generous scoops of ice cream with a cup of espresso, a measure of almond liqueur and amaretto biscuits. Held my daughter’s 30th birthday party in the barn last weekend with 26 of us having a late Sunday lunch. The barn itself was warm and comfortable for an October afternoon, with heaters and all enclosed. It had very pretty fairy lights all round creating a cosy lovely ambience. We were free to put up a banner and balloons and they very kindly arranged the tables in a U shape which worked really well. Having the barn to ourselves made it extra special. The staff were absolutely fantastic. From all my emails and calls prior to the day with Joe and Michael and then on the day itself. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome and accommodated us brilliantly. I can’t remember the names of everyone sadly but each person who was attending to us in the barn were just lovely. We could even bring a cake for which they provided plates and brought it in to the birthday girl with candles ablaze. I find the food here is always amazing, which is the reason we chose to have her celebration here in the first place, but I wasn’t sure how such a large group booking would go.. they did not disappoint! Their amazing starters were just the ticket as always but the Sunday roasts!! Arrived with huge Yorkshire puddings, very generous portions, roasties to die for, an abundance of veggies and next level cauliflower cheese.. it was superb! Everyone had a fabulous time and we can’t thank them enough for making our special occasion so wonderful. I highly recommend the place.

We had to wait for a little bit just because the area we wanted to sit in hadn't any tables available. So we had a drink in the picnic table area. When we got sat, only 10mins wait, the service was swift and attentive. Now the main thing: the food. My otherhalf had the steak pie special and I went for the rib eye steak. Pie: good size and its actually a pie, not a stew with pie crust on top. Good fluffy mash and nice gravy. My steak was cooked to perfection. My friend and I went in It was quite busy (we hadn’t booked a table) and asked at the bar if we could eat. The helpful man directed us to the restaurant maitre d” (friendly chap on the till in the restaurant) who quickly found us a table. We then asked if we could move outside as it was busy inside and quite noisy and again it was no problem and he quickly and cheerfully found us another table outside. We were shown by a lovely waitress to a table outside undercover and ordered drinks and food - letting the staff know my friend has an allergy to nitrates in food. We were asked to choose and they would speak to the chef about how our choice might be able to be changed to accommodate her. What a FABULOUS attitude to allergens. I chose the fish platter as a main and my friend chose the salmon. The chef offered to make a garlic butter sauce (nitrates free), which was such a refreshing change to many places where you just have to go without any sauces/mayo of the item containing nitrates. So all in all. Our food was absolutely delicious. The service and welcome we recieved FROM EVERY MEMBER of staff we encountered was exceptional - Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and all done with a smile. The chef and staff were extremely accommodating regarding my friends allergy and to top it all we had the smiliest and cheeriest of waitresses :-) The pub has a lovely ambience and is very welcoming. It’s very rare to go to a Restaurant/pub/gastro pub where everything is perfect - But it really was. They nailed it!

Came here for easter lunch. Lamb roast only had two slices which was rather disappointing and didn’t even come with a Yorkshire pudding, we had to ask for one on the side. Starters and deserts were great though.

Called in on off chance as local restaurant we had booked had let us down and was closed. The Staff at The Old Plough were SO accommodating. From the person at restaurant entrance/maitre 'd'..the chef regarding my friends Nitrate allergy and the waitress was a cheerful delight. Service and food superb 👌 Absolutley can recommend and will def return. I had the fish sharing plate as a main and my friends had the salmon.. The chef made her a garlic butter sauce as she couldent have the mayo that came with the dish... Could not fault anything about our lunch and the staff 😋

First time I've been on a Sunday and the roasts weren't great - it felt liked they'd sat there from lunch until teatime. Service was perfect as ever!

Just had dessert, sticky toffee pudding. Wonderful. You should go just for that. Went with my daughter for lunch yesterday. We had excellent bar food, prawns and squid, chipolatas in honey and mustard, pork belly and chips with peppercorn sauce. Ya gotta try it.

Beautiful find online, looking for a lovely lunch place . The menu was perfectly created for Sunday with a wide range of choices to suit most palates. We were warmly welcomed entering the bar and proceeded to have drinks on high table in the bar area. The place was bustling inside and out in the beautifully kept garden. We were seated outside on a table under a covered terrace . Our food choices were easily picked and arrived swiftly. The bang bang cauliflower and tofu salad was amazing great sauce and perfect portion size , my husband chose the chicken version. He followed with Roast Lamb for main and I opted for the falafel and halloumi burger , although not a vegetarian I chose because they attracted me on the menu straight away . Too full for a desert but had a lovely liqueur coffee in the bar before collected our daughter from Gatwick. What a great find , would love a repeat visit when next in the area, the surround areas are beautiful.

Food was okay I will never go there again for roast way to much fat and there was only 3 tiny potatoes and little vegetables all straight from the freezer The food was only warm almost cold My daughter enjoyed her fish and chips All overpriced for what they offer

Make no mistake, The Albert Arms is back! Once the place to go in Esher, recent years have been disappointing, but no longer. New management, a consistently friendly welcome and a fabulous Sunday lunch. Deliciously pink roast beef, a proper Yorkshire pudding, perfectly cooked root vegetables and dishes of green vegetables and simply the best roast potatoes I have ever eaten away from home. Puddings were equally good, sticky toffee with caramelised bananas and ice cream was super and the Apple and red fruit crumble with vanilla custard received a rave review. Please go out of your way to enjoy a splendid lunch in a warm, friendly environment. We will be back. Thank you. PS If you prefer your roast beef less pink, say so, for our party it was perfect. One of the reasons the meat is so good is that is is sourced fresh from from Smithfield.
