Popped in without a booking and we sat outside. Table service was OK, but the staff were busy and thinly stretched. That said, they were friendly enough. The atmosphere was very nice and its was lively and busy. Would certainly go again.

We visited The Old House Dorking with another couple for our Sunday Roast a few days ahead of the second CV-19 lockdown on 1/11/20.To drink we had an appletize, an apple juice and a coffee,My wife had the beef and I had the lamb. Both meals had the same point-losing faults: over seasoned gravy, over seasoned swede, tough potatoes, (not nicely crisped), hardly any custard with the apple pie, ice-cream had very poor choices. When the bill arrived I had a shock. £67 for two poor roast dinners. Not good enough. The competition is awesome and for that money I am very disappointed

Dropped in last sweltering Sunday for a refreshing pint, much missed during lockdown. Marvellous. Most folks were in the garden for the sun; I stayed in for the cool, and shade, and quietness. A great pint of Young's ordinary bitter, then a half of some guest ale, Beam Engine I think: very nice. A lovely quiet haven, this, far from the madding crowd, and I'll be back soon: I like this pleasing old establishment and its good beer, and staff whose unfailing courtesy and friendliness have been the hallmark of the place these past few years. Roll on the return of the pub's lovely food...

Went here with a few mates. All like big appetites. Very impressed with this place. The nachos to share. For two of us they struggled to finish them. I had the sausages which was delicious. Main we had fish and chips and one or two others. Lovely food and great portion. Only down side for ME was the lack of lights. I’m guessing it’s like that for pub environment. But in general was fine but have been to other places with more light. Recommend this place highly and we will be back.

We were disappointed no Sunday Roast in summer, and no normal cooked veg.Fish and big chips were good but not a pea with it.I had tortillas with fritters and part cooked salad. Nice sweet corn fritters with a little sour cream to decorate, one tortilla had the chopped veg on it, and another rolled tortilla had the same inside it which lacked imagination, so when I had eaten all the fritters and salad two tortillas was too much. No nuts or pulses.Dishes tended to be with chips and bread so don't go here if you like your veg.Others had Eton Mess which had lots of lovely jammy fruit.

We visited the old house as a group of 5, after walking around for some time looking for somewhere to eat ( a member of our group was vegetarian ) It was a Saturday night and this place was buzzing. We initially did not think we would get a table, but the staff quickly accommodated us by moving tables so we could sit together. The service was outstanding friendly professional and welcoming. This little venue is a cracking place, the decor is comfortable and cosy, its quaint and has ooodles of character. We were looked after from the moment we arrived until we left. The food which is pub/ gastro was reasonably priced for the area and very generous portions. It was delicious and served quickly for a pub that was so busy. If I was to visit the area again I would not hesitate to pop back into the Old House.I definitely recommend you pop in.

Inside I was invited to go through narnia’s wardrobe to find a beautiful snug room with log fire. The two barmaids were simply amazing and made us feel so welcome. We booked a table for a meal for a special family celebration as we had been before and enjoyed it. As we had children we booked a little early so that they would be able to eat early and would not get fractious for lack of food. Our daughter and her family had travelled up from Bristol so we were eager to make sure everything went well. We arrived albeit a few minutes late and we were told that even though the booking was for 4.45, the kitchen did not open until 6.00. Although the children are good, there was no way were would be able to keep them occupied for over an hour before we could order, and then for the time of the food preparation! Although they offered apologies, they did nothing to help us out of the mis-booking they made. Special family celebration ruined!!!!!

I visited the Old House pub (I still think of it as The Old House at Home) yesterday with friends for supper. I did not even know that they served food but am very glad I am now better informed! We had booked a table (it's very small inside). The menu also has a specials board and because I didn't have my glasses with me to read the teeny weeny print on the menu I ordered from the specials which were read out by the very patient waitress! I enjoyed sea bass served on a bed of new potatoes and a Mediterranean tomato and olive base type thing. (sorry for the terrible description!). It came as a generous portion garnished with a large sprig of basil and was easily the tastiest thing I have eaten in a long time. Friends in the group enjoyed ribs, burger and the avocado and chicken salad - all generous portions for reasonable prices. All dishes were under £13. Great value and good service. I would definitely return but be sure to book ahead as the place is small (as mentioned earlier) and I'd imagine they get a bit busy, having been there for drinks at the weekends.

We have always enjoyed eating at the Old House in Dorking but hadn't visited for over a year. A friend and I reserved a table for dinner (on my recommendation) and it was incredibly disappointing. Unfortunately one meal had to be returned to the kitchen and replaced with a freshly cooked version, due to the first one coming out cold, and my plaice had a layer of congealed cheese on top (don't ask why?) which ruined what would probably have bee nice piece of fish. We were told there is a new chef and... well things are just not what they were on the food front. What a shame.

Like many pubs, the Old House at Home in Dorking has a chequered history over many years. It is a Young's house. I had not visited for many years and thoroughly regret the "gap". The standard of reasonably priced meals is excellent. There is a good selection of ales and lagers. There is a well furnished patio garden. The bar/waiting staff are welcoming and, dare one say in these PC times, very pretty. What sets the place apart however is "Narnia".Tastefully decorated in Victorian/ Edwardian style with a working harmonium, gramophone, book lined shelves and deep leather sofas, this meeting room at the rear of the pub is entered, à la C.S. Lewis's "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" via- you got it- a wardrobe. The idea has really caught the imagination of visitors.Yes- it's a gimmick and would be meaningless if the pub failed the other criteria. But it doesn't.Well worth more than one visit!!!

The first few were fine, but then I got to one that, when I bit into it, tasted horrific and smelt even worse. Think raw sewage. I have no idea how or why it did, but it did and the smell was so strong, my friends around the table could smell it from where they were sitting. I spat it out and complained to the bar staff and got a refund, but that doesn't really seem an adequate remedy in hindsight. We have eaten three times at this pub and will continue to do so. It's a great meeting place with a really nice atmosphere and a lovely outside area for warmer weather. Sunday lunches are delicious, full plates with good quality, reasonably priced food. We have also tried the burgers and chips, both beef and chicken, and probably the best burgers we've had for a long time. We've booked every time we've been as we haven't wanted to be disappointed, it's very popular. Really friendly staff. A lovely place to go in lovely Dorking.

Hats off to the Landlords who have turned what was a very scruffy Pub into a really good business with good food but also pub nights as well. We have eaten here and ate well. Food typical of a Youngster house so fish and chips, burger, steak etc with a few more exotic specials. All well cooked. The booths in the garden are fun (and individually heated). Also been in a Friday night where they have a band and a pub atmosphere. Wouldn't try and eat then but is a good night out with friends.

A group of 5 of us went for supper on a saturday night, it was busy and the service was pretty good considering how busy it was. The food was generally good, my fish and chips were great, the burger looked tasty and the fish pie special looked nice although some mentioned there wasn't much fish in it. The big disappointment was the bruschetta starter (Bruschetta on focaccia?! - bread on bread). It was incredibly dry, with no oil on it and couldn't really finish it. In fact when we asked for oil apparently there wasn't any in the kitchen which is a bit odd. That said it didn't spoil the meal and would definitely come back.

We had dinner at The Old House on a busy Saturday night. Sadly, they had run out of what we both wanted on the menu by 8.15. We were left with options that we didn't really fancy. It's a lovely pub, I'd love to give it a higher score. Maybe on our next visit.

10 of us on a hen day lunch, a bit gung-ho after the Military Assault course down the road. Nightmare!! But the staff were brilliant and the food really enjoyable. Everything ran to time and it was also great value.

Read the reviews on TA so thought we would drop in as we were passing through! Food served until 4pm as advertised! However...at 2.50pm I was told quite bluntly that they had no food left so I couldn't have anything! Not 15 minutes later, as we were finishing drinks, the chef appeared to announce to the staff that he had three roasts left! An unreliable business that won't get our custom again! Be warned that you are unlikely to get food if you come here, even during the advertised serving time!

After a walk on leith Hill on a cold and wet day, we went into this lovely pub. Excellent food and good portion sizes (if anything maybe too big!). Also liked the staff who were attentive and very friendly. If we had a dog this would be great too with a jar of dog biscuits available at the bar and other dogs aplenty. Very enjoyable afternoon and would go again.

Food was very good, I had the burger which was home made and had the most lovely flavour, one of the nicest I have had. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ate early so we don't know how busy it gets if your eating in the bar area however we liked the atmosphere for the time we ate ( 6pm as off the comedy night).

This is an unexpected treat in the heart of Dorking. The Youngs beer is excellent (stout) and the food was just perfect. We all had the wild boar pate and the portions are really generous as well as being very good. Main courses ok (hunter's chicken looked great) and all in all a nice meal. The pub is very pretty and it has clearly benefited from investment and a lot of care, nice to see the owners looking after the place. No music or TV, just a gentle burble from the clientele. One to go back to

The pub has finally recovered from a disastrous owner. It now offers a haven of peace (except when groups play but this is well advertised). The food is excellent and served with originality and a high standard of presentation. Outside is a wonderful garden with comfortable tables and chairs (rattan style) and also small booths with heating for cold weather. The pub offers real ales as well as all other standard drinks. A lovely place for those who want a peaceful pint, a group to listen to, or an original garden setting.

We are always sure of a warm and friendly welcome at The Old House. From the first time we visited the newly refurbished pub a couple of years ago the landlord, Joel and his lovely partner Aggie remembered our names and also our drinks! They have built up a very successful and popular business with a loyal and varied clientele.Food is available from Wednesday to Sunday. The menu is always varied and interesting and they use fresh and local produce. We always enjoy the food even though the portions are sometimes a little over generous! They also do a fabulous Sunday roast. If you don't want a full meal there is always a selection of bar snacks in the form of freshly made pork pies, scotch eggs and sausage rolls with pickles.Last summer they did the garden up and you can now sit outside late into the evening in one of their delightful stripey beach hut style sitting areas with its on electric heater.Definitely one of the best pubs in Dorking!

After a long day out with my wife at The Festival Of Speed at Goodwood on a Friday we took the long way home via Dorking and stayed over in the town. Not knowing Dorking that well we took and earlly evening walk to try and find a reasonable priced place to eat. After looking at menus, popping our heads into different pubs we eventually found this lovely pub. As we walked in we were greeted by a young girl who was friendly and so enthusiastic about her place of work. she showed us the menu, explained we could sit inside or out and that food was served from 6pm. We returned a little later, grabbed a couple of alcoholic drinks and found our way outside to thier large patio area. They had about 6 or 7 what can only be disscribed as open fronted beach huts which had individual table that would seat four with thier own heaters (if required). What a great idea !! we were lucky enough to arrive just as another couple were leaving one of these huts, so we jumped in !! The garden area was busy with all age groups some just drinking others eating. Dog friendly with water bowls for dogs.I order the Pork escalop and my wife chose the Salmon fish cakes ( we also ordered some chips). Both dishes arrived at our table by the very lovely girl that welcomed us earlier (wish I took her name). Both meals were of a really good standard.we finished our meals and had one more drink each. The total cost was £44.Great value, great service and realy good food.I would recommend this pub to all.

Lovely little bike shop. Popped in here to buy a few odds n' ends for my bike. Hard working couple in the shop. Scorching hot day but cool inside and purchased a tasty coffee to takeaway.
