The Old Five Bells in South Bucks

Came for a fmaily dinner with my other half food and service was amazing, cant wait to go back again. Thank you Amelia who served us, you made the night amazing!

Been a regular for last ten years. Normally it’s good, but today was a total mess. The Duty Manager had been totally dumped upon. There were 3 First Communion groups in the pub taking over the entire pub, he’d only been told about one and was forced to practically throw regulars out. We were moved around off tables three times as were others. Some left and the food when it arrived was awful. The manager refunded it without question. But the management needs to get their act together otherwise locals will go elsewhere. Today was a total mess.

Booked last minute as a lovely day and they have a lovely garden. Very busy as had a large party. Starters were good. Main courses which took a time, not so. Were both supposed to come with chips, but arrived with fries which we don't like. Scampi undercooked and sent back. Taken off the bill. Staff were rushed off there feet. You could see how stressed they were by their actions. Felt really sorry for them to be honest. They did their best. Not sure what is going on now as seems to lack Management direction lately. This pub could be a goldmine but the way it's going people will go elsewhere, sadly.

Nice cosy pub and lovely outdoor area. The food is pretty standard for a Greene King, nothing impressive. The over 21 rule after 9pm is ridiculous. The ‘trouble’ that happens down this high street is caused by the over 21’s, if anything. When asked why this was put in place, I was told “to make the pub more family friendly for children”. Believe it or not, 18-21 year olds aren’t children. A lot of young people live in and around Burnham and now they can’t go to any local pubs after 9pm. One of the bar staff is very rude and made me felt unwelcome on arrival.

Looked up this beautiful pub online and went for lunch however, wished we never wasted our time! Pub wasn’t busy, yet tables were filthy with food crumbs and sticky glass rings. Glasses from previous customers left on multiple tables. Left over food on plates left on the table next to us for over and hour. We ordered a basic burger and chips and fish and chips and waited for over 50 minutes until we gave up and left. Considering it wasn’t busy and there were 2 bar staff there was no excuse for the lack of hygiene. Unfortunately that’s ruined any repeat return. Don’t waste your time!

Found this online as wasn't to far and lovely village. We took a chance, complete hour of my life wasted. 1 hour for basic food, refuse to wait anymore and got a refund. Dirty Tables dirty used plates and glasses surrounding people eating, all the tables needed wiping! Shame as prior to our experience I said will return to enjoy the garden in the summer. Nice layout, don't entertain the menu.

Awful food and overpriced. Sunday roast advertised pink beef, received the 2 smallest slithers i can honestly say i have ever received, certainly not pink and dry with it. Yorkshire pudding was like a rock and made me feel nauseous for some reason, limited gravy. Cauliflower cheese, roasties etc just okay. Staff friendly. Visiting friend in area so thankfully can go back to my regular GK.

I went here I have been going for some time even have family that work for green king. I waited over 45 minuets for my halloumi that was set as a starter which then came out looking like it was forgotten about then refried it was inedible! Then when I came to the front for a refund I got told my hunters chicken and 3 sides of halloumi couldn’t be refunded because I used my family voucher code! So I got told £30 was taking off me for nothing! I’ll never be returning to this place avoid at all costs

Have been drinking here socially with friends and family for the past 4 years. Due to new rules, anyone under 21 can not be inside the pub after 21:00. Whilst I understand you're allowed your own bar rules, I don't understand turning away business as someone only turns 21 in 2 weeks. What was the best local pub in burnham is now a no go for any young adult. Sad.

Went here on a random find and it's a lovely pub. They were very short staffed in kitchen so waited over an hour for food. They had games etc to play so we passed time. Beer garden is nice and big with swings for kids. Dog friendly pub. Food was good when it came or we were just too hungry by then lol

I visited not too long ago to catch up with some friends, and it was a great experience, as always! I haven't visited in a while, but the service and expertise of all the servers were top-notch! I ordered the hunter's chicken, which was reasonably priced and delicious, and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. We ordered a couple of drinks each and shared a bottle of the house white wine. Our servers, especially Nicole, were brilliant throughout the entire evening, being very professional and maintaining the high standards of each thing that we were served. I will 100% be returning again!

A first visit for us - lovely hidden pub in a village - just off the high street - looks were deceiving though as when we arrived inside we realised it’s actually huge! We were able to enjoy some sun in the giant garden and the swings and play area kept the kids happy for a couple of hours! We visited on a Monday afternoon and our sever Dom was great, he was very helpful and made us laugh a couple of times. We ordered a selection of starters which were brought to our table quickly and the food was excellent. Should we be in area area again we will definitely give it a visit! Thanks Dom!

I went here for dinner with some friends and the food was absolutely delicious!! I had the Katsu Chicken where my friend had the Halloumi and Chips and they were both cooked to perfection. The service was great and the waiters were patient and friendly. All in all a great pub, and will visit again the next time I fancy a good pub meal!! Thank you to the staff for making it such a lovely experience

Popped in for a quick bite and a beer, ended up staying most of the afternoon. Lovely chilled atmosphere.

Could not get any food, not even a portion of chips, because we hadn't booked, so we had to make do with crisps and peanuts, we ordered through the app, which took 20 minutes, the toilets are not great the lock is just a hook on thr door perhaps I am old fashioned?

Not been here for ages. The service was excellent and bar staff were friendly. Will go back the next time I am in Burnham

Such a lovely spot for a low key family lunch. Kiddos absolutely loved having somewhere to play (and great for us to keep them off the iPads!). Our servers Lauren and Curtis were brilliant. Very professional, kind to the children and clearly excellent at their jobs. It's not often you see much passion in service jobs but they're clearly proud of their jobs and that reflects directly on what's obviously very good management. Food was excellent. Reasonably standard pub menu but all very tasty and reasonably priced for the area. We will absolutely be back!

I visited on Friday evening , food was great and was really busy . Was lovely to see Laura back to as she’s always so cheerful and always makes such a fuss of our kids . Nothing is ever too much trouble for any of the staff - highly recommend

Lovely, friendly, efficient staff; great atmosphere and really nice food. What more could you want? I took my 96-year-old Dad for lunch, with another elderly friend. They loved it and so did I. I’ll definitely be back.

A friend my daughter and I often go for lunch there, my daughter has learning disabilities and autism but she feels quite at home and enjoys our lunch dates very much. It’s very roomy with lots of space between tables so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed. … the staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble … my daughter has gluten and lactose intolerance so her food has to be adapted to her needs which is never a problem. We always have a nice relaxing enjoyable lunch.

Been there twice, such a lovely and spacious environment. Staff are very friendly, professional and helpful. The food was amazing both times, I will be a regular there definitely.

Visited here with a group of my friends and the service was superb! Elise and Amelia were very welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. This is a perfect place to come to if you want a day or evening out with family, friends or your significant other. I will definitely be coming here again

This fine establishment is a staple of the local area. my food and drinks made to perfection, almost like Gordon Ramsay actually works. the bar staff was where down to earth and made me feel comfortable. Dan and Duncan are the dream team that every pub needs. I emphatically recommend you visit this pub.

The... English pubs are too characteristic!!! In Italy... they wouldn't even let them open!

We arrived at 12 30 and had to leave at 2:30 with refund as they never gave us our food I do not recommend #ifuwantfooddontcomehere

Went with my daughter today and ordered a salami baguette eventually told after 1 hour no salami and pasta so she chose halloumi and fish gougon baguette for myself. The fish gougons were raw, fish discoloured cold and dripping water, Advised bartender and was asked if I wanted chicken strips instead said chips would be fine, 20 min later after waiting 1 hour 20 mins for food still no chips so left after paying for 2 meals and only having one. If I had eaten the raw fish baguette I think I would have ended up in hospital. Choose carefully my friends

As pubs go it’s pretty standard. However it’s the staff that make it special for us. They are always welcoming and friendly and that’s the main reason we go so frequently. They always try to accommodate any requests we have and although they’re always working hard and keeping standards high, they always find a minute or two to have a chat with us and ask how we are. Great staff have made this a great pub. Thank you!

As always, we had a great time at the Ol Five Bells!! We had a table for 15 people booked, mixture of kids and adults, and we could not fault the service. All the staff were super helpful and kind. Food was tasty and came out in good time, especially the yummy desserts. Many thanks again!

What on earth has happened to the only pub in Burnham where you can get a meal ? An annual business outing, pre-booked for 6 people for 1.00pm, so the starters arrived at 2.15pm and the mains at 3.00pm, by which time one member had left to collect her son from school. How on earth can it possibly take 2 hours to re-heat re-ordered meals ?? The very amiable front of house 'manageress' did her best to pacify us, offering a 'drink on the house', but clearly had no idea why meals were taking so long. And the place was empty, apart from 2 ladies who arrived before we did, but waited even longer than us. All we need in Burnham is a pub where you can both eat and drink on the same day.

Lovely evening, always very good service, manager Curtis very friendly and made sure everything was very well organised

Update Dec 2024: A big thank you to Elise and all the team for hosting a lovely breakfast with Santa event. The three toddlers we went with had so much fun and everything was beautifully set up with a lovely atmosphere! Big breakfast portions - very tasty! Very family friendly pub with great service and wide range of excellently priced food and drink. Often pop in with other mums and babies after our baby class, and always welcomed very warmly.

Booked a table as needed to place our festive menu order. Thought we would enjoy a meal at the same time. How wrong were we. Went to order to be told they'd run out of a few things as had a large party yesterday. I may be mistaken but don't larger parties have to pre- order? Very bad Management in my opinion. So didn't eat there and went to the chip shop instead. Not the meal I was expecting. 🙄

I dropped on for a quick pint, and ended up having a few. The staff and regulars made me very welcome, I had a great night. The premises mix the old with the new, the modern extension takes nothing away when you enter into the old coaching in section.

Came here and staff were amazing. Served with a smile and man on bar Curtis I believe his name is was great. I ordered a burger and my partner ordered steak. Food came out quick and was very tasty. Overall happy with this experience. Would highly recommend.

Tried to order steak and was told they had sold out! Few moments later they miraculously had a delivery as the table that arrived 5 minutes after us ordered steak. The food we had to order instead of the steak was not pleasant the fish was overcooked see photo attached! Service non existent. Had to wait an hour for the starter just wish we had cancelled the main after getting the overcooked starter. Pretty poor. Letting the greene king name down! Much better pubs in the area and more deserving of our money

Been eating and drinking at the Old Five Bells for over 15 years, a really lovely pub. However I have got to say and be honest the quality and portions has dropped off in the last six months. My partner and I went for Sunday lunch, although the beef and turkey were okay, the vegetables were very lacking in portion size and quality, Oh and no Yorkshire Pudding available. All very much out of a packet, the Cauliflower cheese was a single floret, 'Roast Potatoes' were small, more like potato wedges and definitely not on par with what used to be available. These were not even on par to Aunt Bessie's from a super market. A real shame but with two similar experiences since June, especially the portion size and quality. Maybe just maybe it's time fir a menu and kitchen re vamp? We will still visit the Old Five Nells and hope for the future.

Came in went through the bar all signs say order on app… we did after over 20mins went to find our drinks… lady on bar said she will start doing and got the ticket from the back of the bar… another lady apologised and said the machine wasn’t working but they obviously had the order… we checked our food was received as we ordered on app also… they said yes was fine… after over 40mins again we checked they said we where next… another 20mins and further food coming out went to check again as by this time the family was very hungry and having young kids was getting late we where then told the ovens had broken again sounding like another excuse for poor service and poor management or lack of… we are new to area and was hoping for a nice local which was a shame as the place seemed nice just let down by extremely slow and poor service and this was a fairly quiet Tuesday evening 🤦🏻‍♂️👎 we requested money back for the food in the end and got fish and chips from end of that road… A generic reply to the original review to get in contact and discuss which I sent an email apologising for for the bad review but it was terrible service and was happy to discuss further but after the email was sent was fully ignored again same service as in the actual pub shocking 😮 so no we will not give them a 2nd chance

The service was great. Steak had a lot of gristle going through it, unfortunately, and they didn't have a few items on the menu. However, that being said, it's a nice place to go for food and a few drinks.

Booked a table and this was available. We listed our order and went to bar to order only to find out some items were sold out. This should have been communicated when menus were given out. So re-chose and ordered. Food arrived with some delays as the grill broke. We lost a kiddies jacket so walked round the garden to look for it and we were surprised at the amount of litter. I think its an example of a manager not having enough staff/resources to do everything perfectly. The staff were very polite. All in all cheap and cheerful, you get what you pay for.

Definitely not up to expectations. Our 1st and last time we will be going. Over all, it's a pub, quite old, but doesn't know if it's meant to be in the past or present, decor is quite outdated, the chair I had was very dodgy, felt like it was going to come apart. The menu was alright, but the food took ages to arrive, we went in at 1:30pm, got seated, ordered food. The food arrived an hour later. Reasonable portions, but the chicken burger my son had was as thin as paper, I had the fish cakes, quite small and unimpressed, the missus had the gammon, that looked great. The table was sticky, cutlery definitely didn't look the cleanest. Over all, expensive and disappointing

Nice place for a value for money meal in nice surroundings

Garlic bread with 1 meal came out hard as brick, chips were cold with another. They were promptly replaced but the mixed grill which was also ordered was very poor. The manager refunded part of our bill and gave us a free drink. The service was impeccable and very friendly and they sorted everything out ASAP. Willing to give it another try as maybe just having a very busy day.

Absolutely incredible experience, chatting with the staff made it feel just like I was at a bar back in Chicago, even if I did need some clarification through the accent sometimes lol hope you guys nothing but the best, keep it up! And hope my server calista(I think) gets to do her dream New York to Miami road trip!

Decent pub grub in a good environment, the common standard in this place. But was wowed by the service with the bartender Claudia who went above and beyond for myself, helping me customise my order and even recommending pints and dishes. Absolute credit to this pub👍🏽

Our gardeners enjoyed an absolutely gorgeous buffet lunch prepared for us. Three plates of tasty filled, freshly cut sandwiches on various breads, quiche and, pork pie plus hot chicken strips (amazing!) and big bowls of chips - crispy and delicious! There was even cakes, tea and coffee too. A beautiful spread and a warm welcome from Elise. Thank you so much to her and to Laura for her kindness. Happily Recommended 😊

At a local hotel for a wedding but was recommended the pub for a meal the night before was pre booked 13 in total confusion as to where we were sitting staff didn’t know eventually found our seats meals weren’t all booked together but one after another,we didn’t expect them all to come together but of the meals I booked some did but everyone had nearly finished eating when the final meal arrived and it was barely warm .A young male waiter brought one meal out carrying it with a tea towel and handed across the table to a guest without saying a word consequently burnt her fingers and even then he just turned away without an apology.I did complain about the wait for the final meal and was refunded the cost of two meals.A bad start for our weekend We were in at 7.30 and 2 of the party wanted fish and chips but there weren’t any bad that early on a night

Very friendly staff. So much so I left my debit card in the card machine as chatting too much. Didn’t realise I had done that for four days when noticed it was missing. Staff kept it for me and so thankful to them.

Came here for lunch, had steak, guy servings was great , very friendly, food was pretty good, there was one guy who kept coming to the table to take our plates as we were still eating?? Don’t get that when he could see we hadn’t finished, other than that lovely place

Very friendly staff with a great sense of humour. The food was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. Big TV screen for those that wanted to watch the football but volume down so it didn't interfere with those who didn't want to watch/hear it. Lovely pub garden.

This has the potential to be one of the best pubs. The garden is perfect for the summer. However, it is consistently short staffed, long waits for food over an hour and a half today and it wasn’t overly busy. Staff aren’t happy and customer service isn’t great and never with a smile. I actually had the bar man roll his eyes at me today when I asked about something on the menu! The lack of training is obvious and there is also no initiative. Staff bring food out but don’t think to clear tables on their way back, often leaving empty handed! The staff corner had someone laying down across the seats today. I appreciate this is a staff space to have a break but as it’s open for the customers to see, it doesn’t look great when there is a member of staff completely sprawled out across the seats. Such a shame as the potential for this pub is enormous! However, the above won’t stop us visiting as we do enjoy sitting in the garden in the summer and it’s walkable but there are definitely improvements to be made. Also the katsu curry is always stunning here so I would recommend that dish if you are visiting.

Disaster from start to finish. Waited almost 2 hours for starters. Came - one with a random sauce. Other luke warm. Sent back. 2nd time, both luke warm. Decided at this point to cut our losses and visit the local chippy. Which is not what we wanted to do to celebrate Father's day. Quite a few other tables with issues and food being returned. Such a shame. In all fairness we didn't have to pay. But would have much rather had a decent meal.
