The quality of the food here is high - the baked goods and the toasted sourdough sandwiches are excellent. There could be a wider selection of other stuff - more salads, for instance - but it's a tiny place and what they do have is very, very good. I hope and pray that this place resists against all the truly useless chains we have in town. Yes, it's true that the owners aren't the friendliest. But what makes me a loyal customer is what's in the plate.

As a hospitality worker myself, I have never written a bad review nor complained, but I have to express my shock in this instance. Being a student I was on my way to the local library, thought I'd stop by to get a takeaway coffee. Had not stepped in the door before being very rudely told that there were no laptops allowed although mine was zipped up in the case. Not a problem! I explained I wanted to purchase a takeaway coffee yet was shouted at that it was not an office whilst other employees shook their heads at me. I had never been before and will not be returning, even though I didn't manage to get through the door. Decided to go the Cape around the corner where staff are so welcoming.

I love this place. Try the hot chocolate! Every other cafe in the area uses cheap powder to make their hot chocolate, but Benedict's uses real melted chocolate; it's divine. I go here almost every morning. The service is fast, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. I've sampled almost all of the cakes, sandwiches, and coffees, and I was impressed by everything. A surefire hit. Options include meat, vegetarian, and vegan drinks, meals, cakes, and snacks.

Exactly what you want from a local independent - great coffee with the best Portuguese custard tarts this side of the Med! Service spot on during our visit (secretly hoping for a sight of previously reported service, in the best traditions of local shops. But no, only smiles and attention) Busy with local mums sharing a gossip and a coffee, customers popping in for a quick 'to go' and a customer sitting at one of the bar stools concentrating on their laptop. Charming in every way.

We saw this nice looking coffee shop and decided to pop in for a quick drink. There was a queue which was fine but when were served, our requests and presence just seemed like too much trouble for the staff behind the counter. I asked if we could have cream in our coffee instead of milk and they replied with a curt 'we don't have cream'. Instead, we ordered water and a cup of tea and then the staff member complained about where we'd chosen to sit because we weren't buying food. I offered to move to the breakfast bar side of the cafe but there was no acknowledgement or appreciation. When it was time to pay, I presented my card to find that card payments are a minimum of £5. We could not have been made to feel more unwelcome so we cancelled the order and left. Maybe the coffee, tea and food is great. We didn't get to find out!

Great local place, which does the best flat white in the area; the coffee is the proper size, strength & silkiness to be recognised as the genuine article, and is consistent in quality, which is rarely the case. The food is simple, but freshly made - toasties are just as you'd make them at home - nice and chunky and with good quality fillings; and when we had croissants another time, they were just awesome - great flavour and served with Stokes' jam and nice butter. To acknowledge some of the more negative comments, yes, the owners can be a little challenging - they're assertive people working hard and trying to make a living - and given the notices about lack of wifi, they clearly they don't want people sitting around in their cafe drinking one coffee an hour, staring at their laptops with ear plugs in - don't blame them! So far, as reasonably new locals, our experience of this place has been very positive and we'll keep going back for now.

Went for lunch today as wanted to support local businesses but won't be going back! As had to sit by the open door ended up feeling chilly. I asked if we could possibly close the door and was told that they were too hot at the back! Begrudgingly he closed the door. Other customers then left so all was quieter and I thought less hot for them but then the woman behind the counter stomped past me to bang the door open again while saying she was too hot and could not have it closed any longer. All very loudly and huffing and puffing!! Made to feel very uncomfortable throughout. As this was behind me I couldn't see this woman's face but my friend said she looked like a sulking teenager... Food was good although overpriced and the atmosphere was very chilly in more ways than one. Lost my custom and my recommendation.

What a shame! I love the coffee in Benedict's, and particularly enjoy the lemon drizzle cake, banana loaf and ginger cake. I have lost count how many visits I have made over the past year. Unfortunately, on my last visit last Friday, my friend was told that we could not stay and eat at the table as they were for lunch orders only. My friend then asked if we could use the very small 2 seater table next to the toilet. The reply she received was a begrudgingly 'yes' but we could tell it was not really acceptable, and perhaps we should have left at this point, but we had ordered and paid for our cofgee and cakes. We felt very embarrassed. Interestingly, over the next half hour the empty tables remained empty and so we were crammed in the corner unnecessarily. My friend said she wouldn't return after such an unfriendly action, and quite honestly I don't think I will. They also have several notices around stating that no Wi-Fi and no laptops etc. are allowed. The chairs are uncomfortable and the tables are rocky and a bit scruffy so be prepared!

We were instantly given a menu and decided to have a coffee and a hot cross bun. My friend went to the counter to order and was told since we were only having a snack we would have to change tables as the table we were sitting at was for people having a proper lunch. She was quite rude! we did move to another table when one became free but felt we were constantly watched. Another 2 people came in and sat at the table for 4 and were told when we moved they had to sit there, we were still finishing our coffee. obviously not a people person and it is beyond me how they are still in business, I certainly won’t be going there again, worse cafe in Beaconsfield.

I have read a few reviews of this coffee shop stating how rude the proprietor is, so naturally I rushed off down in the hope of witnessing at first hand his Basil Fawltyish behaviour. Alas, I was disappointed. I was greeted with a friendly smile by the charming lady behind the counter, ordered my flat white, which was quickly served at my table and sat back to enjoy a very good cup of coffee. Basil was in the background making sandwiches, warming up snacks and occasionally bursting into song.... but no tantrums, no surliness and no customers ejected. There was even a man sitting behind me happily using his laptop who, by all accounts, should have received an ear full and been thrown out. But Basil let him be and just continued singing. And then to top it all, I saw Basil dodging between cars to personally deliver coffee to the shop across the road.

Ben’s has the best coffee, and tea in town. Food is good and locally prepared. I’ve used it over a number years and really like the place. It’s small and so has limited space. Never had any problems with service. There are some restrictions like no laptops at tables, but you can at the bar. Understandable when you only have 6 tables, you cannot afford someone nursing a cappuccino for 2 hours. And tables are only for food at lunchtime. I’ve seen a few negative comments, but having witnessed some of the “customers”, wonder if it is more a reflection of their attitude?? It’s a small coffee shop after-all.

Basil Faulty is alive and well and co-managing Benedict’s Store. If only he had an ounce of Basil’s occasional joie de vivre, life inside this tense café would be tolerable, but alas there’s no charm. What there is though, is outstanding coffee, along with the owner’s intrusive and tuneless whistling, and an intuitive fear that if you do anything to disturb his equilibrium, you’ll be out on you ear. Rules around use of laptops and eating beteeen midday and 2pm - versus sitting there for hours with a £2 latte - are 100% right, but on the 3 or 4 times I’ve visited this place, I've seen them enforced with such a graceless and aggressive tone, it’s been almost comical. I have been a few times and have had the same toastie every time (mozzarella, tomato and pesto)! The bread they use is so fresh and the toastie is really delicious. The cafe has a vintage/retro look to it, and is in the heart of beaconsfield. I have seen reviews on here about the owners being rude and not allowing laptops? I have seen the sign in the shop about "talk to each other", which is a nice idea but not always ideal on the worst of days and when you're by yourself. I have been scrolling through my phone every time that I have been here on my lunch break, and the owners haven't made any snide remarks about it as of yet. We have been popping into this potential little gem for a few years. Whilst not living locally its often been the best coffee we can get at times. At others, its just average. There's clearly a difference in the service and quality of the coffee between the weekdays and weekends. The service is hit and miss and the proprietors have done a number of things right but it seems that the service industry is one that they sometimes begrudgingly have to earn a crust in...With Koho in Little Chalfont now offering a seriously consistent and competently prepared espresso, we may luckily need not have to venture too far for our caffeine hit for much longer.

Would love to provide a detailed report but!! As a cyclist coffee shops are a ritual and like most cyclists I like to find and recommend good ones to my fellow Lycra clad friends. In beaconsfield there are a multitude of options, so a friend and I decided to give Benedict's a stop on the way back from a ride. Looking to stop for coffee and a sandwich. So we pulled up and parked our bikes in front of the two chairs outside the cafe that we were going to use to eat at! The male owner then came out telling us that we can't use them to rest our bikes against, I tried to explain that we would use the lamppost as a bike stand after we had come in and ordered, he again repeated his order in a more raised voice. At this point we both agreed that we could spend our money in a place that actually welcomed us! So ride round the corner to the Cape! Here we were welcomed with great service and superb coffee. So my advice avoid don't stop at Benedict's, keep going round the corner and enjoy some friendly people who what to serve you. Advice to the man in Benedicts, two people witnessed your manner and rude approach to customers, both came up to us as we sat outside the Cape and told us how poor they thought your attitude was, Beaconsfield is a small place with lots of options so treat people in a nice way if you want them to spend money with you

Would love to able to review the food and coffee here, however, a friend and I were turned away as we both had baby buggies with us. I get how bulky and annoying buggies are and I always try to be as careful and considerate as possible when out and about with mine. However, to turn customers away for this reason is madness. Full time Mums or Mums on maternity leave must make up a decent customer base for delis and cafes as they can visit regularly and during quieter times of the day - such as we did. We arrived at Benedict's Store at 11.10am on a Tue morning in November. There were only four other customers seated in there and lots of spare tables. My friend opened the door to manoeuvre her buggy in and lady behind the counter asked her something along the lines of were we bringing the buggies in or could we leave them outside. My friend said both babies were asleep so we planned to bring the buggies in, at which point the lady shook her head and motioned that we weren't to come in so we left and ate elsewhere locally. Had it been a heaving lunch time, I would have almost understood this. Understandably, we both found this rude and have agreed not to return. We regularly visit other fantastic and always crowded delis in both Beaconsfield and Old Amersham whom have always been relaxed about our buggies and happy to receive our custom - we will continue to visit these locations.

Food too salty ! Service rushed . Over charged us. Despite agreeing that a group of 5 or 7 would be ok our table, we need £15 deposit per person (£105) and then dis not refund the £30 for a group of 5

Used to come here a lot a few years ago but has gone long way downhill unfortunately. The food was good, but the coffee was not; they didn't give me what I asked for and when I asked for what I'd orde
