Ethorpe Hotel in South Bucks

I ordered a full English breakfast I asked for a fried egg. When it came the egg was really snotty it made me feel sick it was raw on top. they took my plate took the same egg off and cremated it and put it on the same plate and gave it to me. I sent it straight back and the man (server) kept taking about wasting food and how they are going to chuck another breakfast away. That’s not my fault. I thought that was rude. I asked for a new egg not the same egg that had been cremated.

WOW. This hotel was recommended to me from local friends I was visiting. I was not expecting such a lovely experience. The hotel aesthetic is perfectly English, and the bedroom are an incredible value for their design, plush comfort and reasonable price point. The included breakfast was a nice touch with broad selection, generous portions and delicious to boot. The attached pub is gorgeous. The interior is about as 'old neighborhood pub' as it gets with impressive wood beams, warm alcoves and cozy seating that makes you feel simultaneously at home and pampered. I was a solo traveler and found a perch for about a half a day to get some work done before I needed to take off to the airport. I felt perfectly comfortable being here all day long, and I sampled much of the Sunday menu, which was spectacular. The crispy duck salad with a dry rose on a sunny spring Sunday did not disappoint. Cherry on top was the staff. Every single person was so kind and helpful.

Great menu, great value and great food if you’re looking for a sensibly priced meal out. Our waitress Jess was simply superb - fun, friendly and attentive - thank you!!

I took my mother out for what I hoped would be a lovely Mothers Day lunch. Sadly this wasn’t the case. My husband chose asparagus for his starter with poached egg. The asparagus was so over cooked but at the same time as tough as wood and the poached egg was hardly cooked. My mum and I had mushroom wellington which wasn’t even hot and contained approximately 2 slices ( not even a whole mushroom! ) of mushroom. I felt very sorry for the man serving us because he did try to offer a replacement but that would mean we were all eating our food at different times. He very kindly didn’t charge us for the wellingtons though. It was such a shame because the environment there is lovely , it’s convenient for us and the staff were friendly but i probably won’t go back !

Can not fault this hotel. Staff were fantastic. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Great location. All in, a fantastic place.

Only used the restaurant (post cinema visit). Service was great, food was pretty good but not great.

Location within 5 mins walk of Gerarrd’s Cross station is perfect after a night out in London and much better value than staying in London. Hotel has a friendly, warm feel. The Italian? waiter serving breakfast is very attentive and offers exceptional service. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and have comfy beds. Access and parking are easy. My only comment for improvement is the wifi speed should be faster for easier business meetings.

I came across this hotel when my car had broken down late last night. I briefly met the reception staff , two ladies and also a gentleman who were closing up for the night. They were so helpful and kind and allowed me to sit in the locked reception to wait for the AA. The gentleman was available all night until I was finally collected at around 8am, he stood by like a guardian angel and I am so grateful. Although I didn't stay at the hotel myself I saw guests checking out and they went to thank the staff for their stay. I just want to say that your staff made my experience bearable when I was feeling very vulnerable and alone and thank them all but especially the gentleman who was kind, polite and professional.

Room was nice, warm and well decorated. The generator or HVAC in the carpark outside our room (12) was noisy if the windows were open. The taps in the bathroom were very loose. Too little storage space in the room for anyone staying more than one night.

I stayed for 3 nights at the Ethorpe. I always have a great stay. Rooms are great. Food is fantastic and hotel staff are always friendly and accommodating. Another great stay at this beautiful hotel.

The menu doesn't change much, but it is local, the old staff always treat us with respect. The food is not "amazing", but it is basic pub food at reasonable prices, although the wines are quite pricy for a restaurant of this rating.

I saw you were celebrating burns night with a special menu. We came to this a couple of years ago and were impressed. Food was very well presented and very enjoyable. Venue even had scottish music playing too ! once again the menu choice and food was very impressive.

I visit The Ethorpe Hotel in Gerrards Cross on a regular basis to meet a friend for lunch, the decor is lovely, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food is always good and excellent value for money.

This is my second stay at The Ethorpe this month, and my second time dining in the restaurant. The hotel staff is very friendly, helpful, and go the extra mile. Rene was an amazing server, checking in to make sure food met my expectations, my drink was always full and provided a friendly smile and conversation. Would highly recommend!!

Visited for the first time today. Had Sunday roast with my husband and brother in law. The meal was excellent and we were served by Michael who was very attentive. Plenty of parking spaces. We will come again and recommend it to our friends. Wendy Burrell

Usual good service and food. This has now become our regular stop on our journey from Northampton to Sussex. Always pleasure to be here. Always good go eat there. Even though it was just before Christmas and very busy everything about visit from being shown to table, the food and the waiter who was professional, friendly and attentive. We stop here on a long journey to family in Sussex. It is a place we go to from choice and will continue to do so. We travelled back on Friday 28th December. The pub far less busy and the stop for a break and a meal was as good as ever. We look forward to stopping there and will continual to do so for our next trip in a couple o f months. Both times couldnt fault the staff or the food.

We came into this restaurant on a monday evening and the staff member 'Jess' was ever so lovely and accommodating especially as we had a baby with our group (making lots of noise!) and she still took the time to bring out my dessert with a candle for my birthday! thank you so much!!

We have had the pleasure of sampling the Festive Food menu three times in December. So good we kept returning! Great food, I was carefully cared for with my gluten allergy. Although the restaurant was very busy each time we dined, the amazing staff handled it brilliantly. We were looked after wonderfully by Kelly and Michael, who really went the extra mile for us! Thank you to everyone and well done!

It was Christmas Day so obviously the staff were busy but we experienced nothing but smiles and goodwill. The food was so much better than I expected so was very pleased. All 3 courses were excellent. The accommodation was exceptional and we will be staying again in room 14! The only negative we would say, was the bar closing at 5, it would have been nice to sit and chat and maybe a further drink or 2 or liquor coffee, but we knew in advance so took our own provisions

My family and I have gone to the Ethorpe many time for dinner and drinks and we always have a lovely experience. We have had the waitress Sophie many times and have always appreciated her pleasant, kind and accommodating attitude. She always greets us with a smile and is very tentative during meals. She has even been able to get my dad a whole roly poly for dessert!

I visited the restaurant today 05/12/2023 as it was my 30th birthday and celebrating with my friend her child and my newborn baby was a good idea over some food as we had previously been before and had a pleasant experience. Today was the most disappointing experience: We were rushed out the restaurant as we were told there is a table of 7 who are waiting at the bar to be seated. We were served by a tall male who was serving everyone else but us. When we were attended to we were given 10 seconds to look at the menu and told he needs the table. I was breastfeeding my newborn baby and the male waitor was v aggressive in his manner raising his voice saying he needs the table. My friend went to check if there was a table at the bar area we could be seated. There was and we gathered up our belongings and as we were walking there the waiter was shouting at us demanding to pay the bill. We said we will in a second can we just vacate to another area as we have a new born and toddler with us. He said no it needs to be done now and made us look as if we were in the wrong. We said we will pay the bill when we put our children and belongings down. He began to raise his voice and we were being looked at by others in the hotel. In the end another member of staff took over and apologised on his behalf for his behaviour and approach towards us. He was clearly stressed due to the volume of people in the restaurant. However the way we were neglected and spoken to and also shouted at arrogantly. Aswell as chasing us in the hotel was disgusting. We sat down Yeah, I think and a member of staff gave us a complimentary coffee to apologise. The man serving us had no manners or customer service. I am saddened by this experience as I have visited the restaurant manure times and will not be returning.

I can't remember staying in a UK hotel where the staff have been so helpful and friendly. Sunday morning breakfast was very busy and only 1 member of staff serving ( others had called in sick ). This one chapter ( should have got his name ) never stopped smiling and serving all the guests in a very professional manner. He deserves a medal. The reception staff were also smiling and very helpful such a pleasant change. The room was fine, recently refurbished, comfortable bed. If only they had put the basin taps on the right way round. There's a good size free carpark and you are within walking distance of shops and mainline station. A very pleasant stay.

My friend and I came in for a quick bite to eat. Quick it was not. Over 30 minutes wait for soup of the day. When it arrived it was warm. It should of had a wedge of bloomer bread with it. We had half a thin slice of bread each. No croutons just chunks of bread on top of the soup. The butter had a herb (rosemary?) In it. It would be nice to just have plain butter. We didn't have time for the soup to be reheated as the waitress offered. Very disappointed to sat the least. Soup has got to be the easiest thing to get right. We felt very short changed.

Me and my work colleague stayed here for a business trip. When arrived at the hotel was greeted and booked in. When getting to the room it was freezing cold no heating was on in the room or bathroom. It was requested that the sofa bed was to be made up this wasn’t either, so had to go back to reception to ask for this to be done which was promptly done. Later that evening we were both woken up by a loud vibrating noise sounding like a washing machine on a spin cycle this went on all night! We tried to contact the emergency number that was in the room which did initially ring and went to voicemail after this the phone went straight to voicemail! If there was a proper emergency god knows what would have happened! I did even message the number with no response. When reporting this first thing in the morning we were told that a manager would ring us to discuss what had happened. They did ring and explained that they had left the fire place extractor on all night which it should have been switched off after they closed at 11pm. She then said that the phone being switched off was not acceptable & she would discuss with the manager. No further communication was given to us and no attempt to apologise or compensate for this.

Our waitress Kelly was friendly efficient and very professional...we are regular customers and cannot fault the service we get

We love this hotel and restaurant Fabulous decor, spacious, clean, comfortable, well decorated rooms( decor is lovely). Lovely friendly staff( Jess in restaurant and Lolly on reception particularly brilliant and nice!) Excellent value for money- Ealing Premier Inn wanted 140.00 for, well, a Premier Inn experience- boo! Here? 108.00 for a much much nicer experience and much nicer room- well done everyone- We will be back - thank you 😀

Quality meal, fantastic service

I booked Sunday lunch for my mums 70th birthday. We arrived hardly any staff around, we were seated at our table and both ordered the roast Pork it arrived i was quarter of the way through when i found a large piece of cling film amongst the vegetables on my plate! Reported it to the waitress who asked if i would like a replacement meal 20 mins later food arrived! I ate in my own as my mother had finished her meal! We ordered a vodka and tonic it was served in a filthy dirty pint glass! Apparently they had no clean glasses at 1.30pm!!! I asked to speak to a manager but they were too busy cooking in the kitchen to come and speak to me! The restaurant was not busy! Our plates were not cleared after our meal, no one came over to see if we wanted desserts or coffee so wet left! Very very disappointing i will not be returning.

Our regular girly get together at the ethorpe was just as enjoyable as always. Great atmosphere, so comfortable (like being at home) and amazing service by Louise. She is truly wonderful, so attentive and efficient. Great night

Last visit food was great,this time very average, not sure what's happened, maybe new management 🤔, ordered steak,last time came with cauliflower cheese, crispy onions,not this time,literally small salad,chips and an overcooked steak,shame won't be revisiting

Price-performance are top. Food and breakfast great. Rooms clean and spacious. Parking spaces are available here free of charge. Nice staff. Everything is great.

Came here for my family birthday lunch and sadly, the food was awful. We ordered the sunday roasts. The veg had just been reheated in the mircrowave and the portion sizes were stingy. The veggie roast had more puff pastry then filling and the service was indifferent. When I offered feedback the waiter agreed he gets this feedback regularly... so disappointing

This hotel has recently been refurbished. The restaurant service was excellent with cheerful, helpful waitresses. The cheese souffles as starters were delicious as were the desserts BUT the Sunday lunch roast beef special was not good. The vegetables were microwaved and tasteless, the Yorkshire pudding was as tough as old boots and the beef was poor. They had run out of Bombay Gin but the bottle of Chilean Red Carmenere was a triumph - quite outstanding. If you go for Sunday lunch, avoid the main course!

The restaurant is next to the bar and very relaxing because of its layout. We also liked that there are no steps from any of the pavements or car park which made walking with a bad knee easy. Tracy, our server, was so attentive and made sure that our food order arrived quickly. The meal was one of the best we have had in the area and we will be back - along with friends. The baked camembert sharing starter is enormous and comes with generous amounts of toast and pickles. We needed more people to share with! A great lunch.
