Visited Lynton and Lynmouth and was hoping to find a great cafe for a Cream Tea. The Old Coach House did not disappoint. Scone was stated as large on the menu and it most definitely was!! We also had a BBQ Chicken & Cheese toastie and an Eggs Benedict. Everything was spot on. Very welcoming atmosphere and our dog Ginny was also allowed in too which on a rainy day really does help. Thank you.

We had problems finding somewhere open to have lunch on a Monday afternoon, as nearly everywhere was shut, and came across Abi's Cafe in Lynton's main street. Formerly The Old Coach House, this small eatery serves mainly light lunches, snacks and cakes. I can vouch for the Spicy Lentil and Coconut Soup with Granary Bread, which was like eating a delicious Lentil Curry without the rice. This coupled with the friendly and prompt service, has ensured that I will want to re-visit if and when I'm next in the area.

Best place in pretty Lynton for a trad breakfast, as far as I could tell. Pleasant space with well-separated tables and we weren’t bombarded with recorded music, for which they get extra points (the not too loud radio was fine). My fried eggs on toast with sausages were great, as was the cappuccino. Friendly service. Only complaint: there should be salt and pepper grinders on each table rather than the measly little sachets they offer. Visitor tip: while there, do the fine walk to the Valley of Rocks and then the dramatic coastal walk back to the town centre (no more than about an hour in total).

What a lovely little cafe. A true gem of north Devon. Excellent customer service, a very friendly welcome. Our dog was welcomed and given treats throughout to keep her occupied, whilst our little boys were given some crisps whilst waiting for the mains. Very very reasonably priced, jacket potatoes went down a treat, whilst the full Monty breakfast was spot on. Cannot stress enough, if you go to north Devon and fancy a nice day out, go to and have your lunch here. Covid procedures were followed to the letter, I felt safe and secure during our visit.

Attractive window seat overlooking the street tempted us in, but once through the door we were barked at to document our contact details for test and trace, as key workers and NHS staff we were happy to do so as we appreciate the importance of this. It was the manner in which this was done that we were disappointed in. We ordered drinks from a very blunt waitress and decided not to purchase any food as we did not feel welcome. We noticed that when a nearby table was vacated it was cleared but not cleaned, cannot fault the quality of the drinks but certainly will not visit again .

entering the café the younger waitress screamed at us. It was so high pitched i didnt understand what was said. We have never visited here before so was unsure what the process was.Theres a very small book to write your details for track and trace. Its on a small shelf half way in the café. We were shouted at which table to sit at. While taking our order she was rude and short. I normally dont complain but i just cant believe how short and rude she was.We decided not to order food and just order drinks due to the unfriendly atmosphere. Which was met with 'Fine, that all'...Considering how small businesses are collapsing you would think they wouldtry a little harder on customer service.Overall I wasn't impressed by the loud southern "carm" and would not recommend going there.Stefan

Excellent and varied menu and all the food was excellent. We had cream teas and shared a sandwich. The scones were delicious and we had generous helpings of clotted cream and jam. Couldn’t fault. However the two young waitresses should think about whether working in a customer facing role is for them. My jaw fell open when one of them told another table she couldn’t help them with their bill as she was on her break. All she needed to do was pass the message onto the owner. We were told we couldn’t wait for a table as same waitress was too busy to even give an estimate of when a table might be free. Fortunately the owner intervened. I’m sorry we customers got in the way and you and your colleague couldn’t just spend your day on Instagram as you clearly were doing when the owner was out of sight. I know everything is different with COVID19 restrictions but that’s no excuse for forgetting some basic manners.

We attempted to visit here yesterday as a family - 2 adults, 2 kids. Walking past the window there were loads of empty tables so we attempted to go in only to be screeched at by a lady in there. And yes, she definitely screeched - so every existing customer turned round to see as well. You can't have a that table, you can't have this table, that tables too close to another table....It was really embarrassing for us, and the kids. Why not just remove the tables from your cafe that are not going to be used due to social distancing and problem solved....No more customers will walk in for the empty ones, no more screeching staff.Needless to say, we left.... Whilst visiting my father we stopped at The Old Coach House. We both ordered the large portion of fit & chips. There is the option to have a smaller portion for the kids or those with a small appetite. The chips were home made and with the skins, like potato wedges. They were delicious, along with the two portions of fish and petit pois. We were asked if we wanted tartare sauce and vinegar. After saying 'yes' we were given a freshly opened jar of tartare at no extra cost.We also ordered a pot of tea between us and it was made with tea leaves. The unique teapots have the strainer made to fit snuggly inside the pot. If you like them, there is the option to buy a new one. They were busy but the waitress took time to make sure we had a great experience! We will definitely visit again... and highly recommend The Old Coach House for a pit stop! Many thanks to Abigail and the staff!

Visit with my husband and friend to Lynton and looking for a cafe for a cuppa we spotted The Old Coach house and dived just as i started raining. The menue looked really good with lots of different than usual options including gluten free. My hubby and friend had the Bubble and Squeek, one with sausage and mushrooms the other with bacon and mushrooms. I had Chicken and Bacon Salad. We all really enjoyed our food. My salad had lovely hot chicken and bacon with the usual salad plus nuts, grapes and seeds. The food was clean looking, no grease on the Bubble and Squeek meals or my cooked Chicken and Bacon, it sat perfectly fresh on my salad.Absolutely delicious. My friend lives in Tiverton and said she would be back with the family and myself and husband are from Scotland but will definately make a trip again to The Old Coach House next time we visit our freind down south. The reason I couldn't give it 5 star was the floor, it had been carpet at one time but was so worn it was shiny and looked greasy but it wasn't. It certainly needs replacing asap, perhaps a non slip cleanable covering might be better. I had trepidition sitting down but need not worry, the food was excellent for the price which took into account there was no WC facilities on the premises I imagine. So in for a cuppa but enjoyed a lovely reasonably priced early dinner, thank you.

This vegan thing gets easier with time. I had just arrived in this beautiful little town when I saw a big sign in the window saying vegan options available. A beetroot and bean burger was on offer. I am a big lover of all things beetroot, so couldn’t miss this one. A big juicy vibrant purple slab topped with violite cheese served in a soft white bun arrived with salad, onion marmalade and some of the best potato wedges I’ve ever had. Staff went the extra mile when my partner accidental left her purse there. It was a few hours later we realised this was the last place we had seen it. We got there while chef was moping her floor. She had been keeping it safe in the kitchen all day with her, waiting for our return. A massive thank you to the staff for the hospitality, the burgers and for the purse saving skills.

Lovely view over the town and everything is reasonably priced though quite basic. They knocked up a vegan breakfast for me which was okay except for the tinned tomatoes. On arrival we nearly bumped into girl who was serving. No smile or apology. Found a table amidst a Tesco delivery. Other staff were dealing with this - no acknowledging of our arrival by anyone. Couldn’t work out of it was table service or not. Heard another customer ask and this confirmed that it was. Had to wait some time to be served. We ordered a cheese scone and coffee. We’re given. Savoury cream tea which wasn’t what we wanted. Cheese scone was a sweet scone with cheese in it. Disgusting. Couldn’t eat it. Coffee was nice but tiny cups for the price. We had eaten a savoury cream tea a few days previously in a much nicer place, better quality for 50p less. The cafe decor was very average. Did not justify prices. A bit of a quirky place which might not be for everyone. I have scored this as very good mainly because of the lovely lady who served us and also cooked everything at the same time. The chicken curry was superb and the rice lovely and fluffy. The steak and ale pie was a bit watery however the meat was plentiful and very tender. The Cornish aleKorev is recommended. We would definitely go back as the lady serving is so lovely. The bill came to about £30 for 2 main meals, 2 lagers and 1 wine.

Most places throw a vegetarian dish (usually veggie lasagne) onto the menu but here 50% of the lunchtime dishes were vegan: brilliant. Husband tucked into the all day breakfast and the waitress obligingly swapped the tomatoes for hash browns: I thoroughly enjoyed the beetroot and bean burger, laced with apricots and spices, with just the right number of properly cooked chips and an onion relish. The cream teas on a nearby table looked rather good too. Reasonable prices, pleasant ambience, friendly staff, good choice of food. One tiny grumble - milk flavoured with a syrup is not a milkshake!

We had dinner here and regretted it.My partner ordered steak and ale pie, with sauteed potatoes and vegetables. I ordered pie described as mushroom, spinach and sweet potatoes in a white sauce, plus mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes were fine, and my partner tells me the steak was fine. The sauteed potatoes were very greasy. The pies were individually prepared but the pastry tops were undercooked, not far from raw underneath. The mushrooms and sweet potatoes were swimming in a watery grey-green liquid, which had doubtless not helped the pastry to cook. If there had ever been any white sauce involved it seems to have been overwhelmed by the liquid released from the mushrooms and spinach during cooking. The spinach had been reduced to a puree. The whole was fairly tasteless. The shared vegetables were broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Not hard vegetables to prepare, but they were frankly horrid. The cauliflower had been boiled till it was soft. The broccoli had been boiled till it was very soft, verging on mushy. The chunks of carrot had a sort of rubbery texture, almost like reconstituted dried carrot.I'm not sure what restaurant staff expect when they ask 'is everything alright'. When asked this I enquired whether honest feedback was wanted, and on being told it was, I gave it. In a customer focussed establishment the response would have been an apology and an offer to put things right. This didn't happen.Perhaps this was an off night for some reason, but we certainly couldn't recommend eating here.

came in here recently with two friends, one had beef burger one had veggie bean burger and I had steak pie.The pie was only a crust over meat and gravy in a pot, that alone would have been acceptable but it honestly had no taste whatsoever. I've had steak pie, steak and stilton pie and steak and ale pies elsewhere and all have had a good taste, this was so bland one would have no idea what it was and if I hadnt been hungry Id have left it but I didnt want to order something else or walk around the town looking for somewhere else as a few places were closed.Add to this the 'local' tea, I had a pot of the stuff and again it wasnt pleasant, in fact it was probably the worst tea I've ever drank, it left a dreadful tanning aftertaste. So much so as soon as we left I had to buy some strong chewing gum to try and mask the bad taste. Then there is the question of the toilet, down a dingy alleyway thats very low, but one can accept the physical short falls of the building, but it was neither terribly clean nor well maintained. The door was ill fitting and anyone outside could peer straight over the top as the door was only about 5ft tall, the taps were loose and flopping about everywhere and though its an old building by todays standards, its well below par.If I visit Lynton again, sadly I will not be returning here.

I came in here for lunch with my partner while on holiday. We liked the look of the menu, which had many vegetarian options. When we walked in, it was busy and we were not sure if we should sit down or wait to be seated, no one caught our eye so we sat down. The waitress came over swiftly and took our orders, I then noticed a charging point next to out table so I plugged in my phone which was on low battery. The owner said aggressively: "Are you okay?" I said, yes just charging my phone, and he said very aggressively, "well NEXT time ASK." I've never had this before, usually a paying customer who has bought 2 meals plus drinks should be entitled to use the plugs if needs be, it's not like I unplugged anything to use it. But apparently the tiny amounts of electric used to charge my phone is more important than being hospitable to customers. I didn't want to cause a fuss having already ordered food, so we stayed. I was going to get us a cream tea following our meal but did not feel like giving them anymore service after this rude eruption from the manager. Good arrived swiftly but was mediocre. The thick vegetable soup with baguette was hearty and the poached eggs on toast looked good. Shared a generously sized plain scone but disappointed to see that it had been warmed in the microwave, ruining its consistency. One of us chose a melted chocolate and orange dessert but told there would be a delay as 'the chef had gone to the shop and we don't know how to make it.' The chef does the nicest breakfast - fluffy eggs, great potatoes, fresh bread. The manager makes excellent cappuccino! The restaurant is cozy with nice views onto the main street. Everyone in our group - six adults - agreed.

Stopped for a quick snack when visiting Lynton and Lynmouth. We chose scones- savoury and sweet which were delicious and so soft and fresh. The service was excellent and the whole experience gave us a real 'feel good factor' before we set off home. I would definitely choose the cafe next time I visit - thank you

We were happy to find good pub grub whilst we were staying for a few days in Lynton. It was so good, that we returned to this coaching inn every evening! Friendly staff, and the locals were friendly too, with a welcoming atmosphere. Dogs were allowed in, but they were no bother as they were very well-behaved! Lovely pub!

We were looking for afternoon tea after a lovely walk around the area with local friends and everywhere seemed to be closing it was 3.10pm however the Old Coach Tea Rooms welcomed all 6 of us and a dog with open arms! In the end we were so hungry we went for roast dinners x 4, Panini, and the Lentil and Cocnut soup with a cheese scone. Service was very quick but it was not too busy. Our drinks order was very complicated and would normally have been greeted with the usual sigh or despondent mumble, however she patiently took ours and the kids orders and came back within minutes. The food was very basic but we had plenty of it and she even came over with extra Yorkshire puddings. One of us ordered Chicken but still had a Yorkshire and all of us who ordered beef had stuffing too - lovely touch! Plenty of veg, the tea and cappuccinos were lovely (kids had milkshake and a hazelnut flavoured hot chocolate!) The menu was so varied from sandwiches, jacket potatoes, roast dinners and cream teas etc. The beef was a little overdone, but quite frankly, at the price, it's what we expected, it was piping hot, served quickly and with a friendly smile. Our friends have just moved to the area and will be back with the many droves of visitors that they will attract and it seems it is open during the Winter months. The lady working, may have been the manager or owner and was working very hard but she made it look easy. The tea room had also been decorated for Halloween. There was even some guest bottle beers from the local brewery. A lot of hard work and care has gone into this establishment and people should appreciate this when choosing to eat here we will gladly be back

We had lunch here and were impressed with the home-made soup. Had tasty gluten free bread which also went down well. Said we may come back for dinner and on arriving in the evening found there was a reserved table for us (psychic or what?). We had the mushroom casserole which was excellent - made from various wild mushrooms. Lovely place, good food and homely.

We came across this unassuming eatery, by chance one evening and are so pleased that we did. The wholesome, homecooked fare was delicious and very reasonably priced as were the drinks. Well worth a visit.

I've been coming to Lynton for several years, and this was the first time I'd gone for something other than 'pub' grub during our short stay. The Old Coach House offers superb home cooking, in a relaxed and friendly environment, and the host was magnificent. It was so good, we back another evening and took friends with us. Will definitely be back next time we're in Lynton.

It was the worst day of our holiday weather wise, rain on and off most of day and we were going along the coast visiting several towns. We called into Lynton and found a parking place close to several tea rooms. In the rain, we opted for the closest, an old fashioned looking place, "The Old Coach House" - What a mistake!!!We took a seat and a young lad, probably about 16, well dressed in black & white, came over to take our order."Can you do a skinny cappuccino?" I asked" Yes " came the reply. So I ordered a skinny cappuccino and a tea. When they arrived, my wife asked if the cappuccino was made with skinny milk, the answer came back with " No, Full Cream "She declined it and I was left to drink a rather weak, tasteless cup of tea on my own.We paid for the tea and left.Whilst we were in the tea rooms, a few customers asked where the toilets were. They were directed outside the shop and down a narrow alley at the side of the premises. We decided not to venture down there.Another customer wanted to pay by card and was told they could not accept cards but there was a cash machine down the road. One to avoid I think.

We came for an evening meal and ordered the fish cakes. The portions were very generous. The fish cakes were home made and well flavoured-no questionable mush but recognisable fish, spring onions and a hint of cheese. For dessert we had apple and blackberry crumble. The fruit was clearly prepared by hand with plenty of shape and texture (again no questionable mush) and even the custard wasn't water based. Prices are very reasonable and excellent value. The drawback is that the decor is a little tired and could do with a brighten (hence 3) But don't let that put you off it's worth a visit for a meal that is good, generous in size and value for money.

We came in here to grab some brunch and get some shelter from the rain. I had some wonderful loose leaf tea with the home made vegetable soup and I was cheeky and asked for bubble & squeak rather than cheese scone or bread as I am gluten intolerant but the gentleman who served was more than happy to accommodate. My other half ordered a sausage sandwich and unfortunately the chef forgot this but she was absolutely charming and apologised personally and when we received the bill they'd taken off his entire meal. We didn't ask or even expect them to do this and as myself and his mum had enjoyed our soups and meals we actually felt a bit mean so we left the money all the same. I cannot praise this lovely little place enough. The food, the menu & the staff are brilliant and it's great value for money.

OK for 'basics'. Coffee was average and you can't really get toast wrong can you? Saw other food going out and looked OK. Felt going back to the 80's a bit with decor but pleasant service and not too pricey.

Popped in for a bite to eat on a very wet and windy afternoon. We were greeted by a young lady who was very quiet and not very hospital. The background music should of been that,...they played very loud rapping music and as we sat down another couple arrived and hastily left after saying... good luck with coping with the awful music. Another couple commented to us how awful the music was... it was extremely loud, so much so you just wanted leave.

Generous size portion but cheese and bread were both very ordinary and coleslaw advertised was actually diced red pepper and stringy lettuce. Chutney had an unappetising flavour. At least the ham was good and staff were friendly.

This place is a little quirky and has the feel of an old style cafe. The food was really tasty. I had a toasted sandwich with some rather yummy home cut and cooked chips. The coffee was also good and welcome after our walk. I like places like this which are independent and good value for money.

Visiting family for Christmas, (I'm from Lincolnshire), was shocked how rediculously expensive everything was in Bromley including even basic food, l could have a 3 course meal in Lincoln for price of a starter is some of the places here!! The Terrace Cafe was a breath of fresh air, really acceptable prices, big menu and good quality food, surprised also on the decent portion sizes. Not surprised they were busy! (I'm writing this review while still in the cafe). Well done guys.

Used to be such a good coffee, but the last few times were horrible. The baristas don't know how to heat oat milk and just burn it. Water glasses were filthy, probably from washing in same water as stuff covered in batter mix. Great crepes, but elsewhere for coffee!

Service with a smile on a Sunday morning. Went there for coffee and granola - relaxing and god atmosphere. We walked out of Starbucks as there was no smiles there.
