Only went for a meal but no food available and over charge people for drinks, a bean guy out back dealing drugs to a blonde scared fella, seen by staff then they're allowed to book a table for football tonight so looks like going to be an eventful night enjoy all that wana risk a raid during covid

Popped information a quite drink but it appears to have been taken over. They now serve food and after 10pm, the pub turns into a bit of a disco with very loud music and lights making it impossible to talk to each other. Not a place I'd or my friends would return to after 10pm.

Así que lo siento que Angie ha sido forzada a abandonar el Viejo en Chequers Thatcham. Su comida era fuera de este mundo. Aún así aquí a la cocina de la suerte que le tienen sus conocimientos nuevos en el futuro. Anímate a Angie.

Muy entristecido al escuchar que Angie ya no estará corriendo de la cocina. Su comida era increíble y el servicio al cliente también era excelente, no será la misma sin 😔 Angie hay caja fuerte para decir que no se come allí ya

Very disappointed to hear that Angie will no longer be running the kitchen at the Chequers in Thatcham. Her food there was beyond excellent and she was always willing to go far and beyond to please her customers and was very welcoming to all. Sad to see that she has gone.

I Had the best hunter's chicken ever. All home cooked. You could taste it was home made. Everyone was lovely, even brought our drinks to the table so that we could sit down with my 10 month old nephew (he had a very nice mac and cheese). The guy behind the bar didn't even get nasty towards me when I came rushing back in as I'd forgotten to pay. Well worth a visit. Thank you x

Good value Sunday Roast, just like your mum makes! Plenty on your plate 😋 Perfect for when you, like me, can't be bothered to cook! Definitely recommend it!

Travelled from Cornwall to have lunch with an old friend. Pleasant pub, bit quiet on a Monday lunchtime. A pint and food was in order for 3 ,however the food ,though quite delicious, was a long time being served(35 mins)

Haven't had a pub roast for ages until me and my family went into the chequers pub for a roast dinner and will be going back there soon. The food is the best i have tried and huge portions aswell puddings are also delicious would reccomend the strawberry meringue delight. Cannot wait to go back there again very soon for a roast and pudding. The pub is also very friendly and the staff always welcome you with open arms.Along side the staff working in the kitchen they also provide a friendly outside catering service including buffets they also do a wedding service where they make all the arrangments for hiring wedding items and will organise it all for you and I used these people for my wedding reception it was the best thing i ever did as they are 100% committed to providing a service and it takes away all the stress from the bride and groom .

I haven't eaten in The Chequers since my student days, but hearing that there was a new family friendly team in the kitchen and the promise of two courses for under a tenner the family headed off for Sunday Lunch. It's a sign of a wise kitchen when the menu options are limited it means that they are focused on doing a few things well rather than churning out mass meals just to make money. Sunday options are limited to Roasts and our choices were Beef Pork or Chicken (although one got the sense from the very friendly kitchen staff) that had you wanted a bit of everything that would have been no bother. Food came quickly but was clearly fresh and unmicrowaved. Generous portions perfect Roast Potatoes and a good selection of vegetables. Clearly a success as very early on our 20 month old was demanding more carrots and our fussy 6 year old had demolished her potatoes and her swede and carrot mash - something that may have been more of battle at home. Plates cleared and grumbles of being too full for pudding were soon forgotten when the banana split arrived, a glorious throwback dessert clearly created with love and a generous spoon. We all left full and smiling and that is all you can ask of a Sunday lunch. We will be back and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good old fashioned home cooked food.

Last we went here they had a good chef who did lively veggie food this time however the only thing on offer was a horrible veggie burger. The cheap type full of carrots. Price was ok but they really need more than one vegetarian hot option. Also odd that they now only do food between the hours of 12pm-3pm.

I came here today with my wife, sister and two little baby's. It was easy to park, as they have a few spaces at the rear. There was plenty of tables and just enough room for two buggies. The food was nice and arrived quickly. I wasn't expecting such a lovely meal, I had the burger which was cooked to perfection. There was no card machine there so remember to bring cash, unsure if this is a recent issue of not.The landlord was very nice and I would happily come here again.

We came here for lunch a few weeks ago. I brought my chihuahua with me which wasn't a problem as he was very welcome. I had the vegetarian lasagne and chips and my husband had the fish and chip. The portions were huge, the food was freshly cooked and piping hot. Never really thought about having lunch here but would definitely go again.

We had our wedding reception at the Old Boot on the 7th September and it's hard to put into words how amazing the team were in making it such a memorable day/evening. Mel and Michael were amazing in the run up to the event. Totally calm and collected in planning. Things I was worrying about where instantly addressed and my slightly frantic Bridal brain was put at easy at every turn. The Tepees and garden looked incredible! ALL The staff were charming from start to finish. The food was EPIC...some of the best I've ever tasted at a wedding, all the while feeling very relaxed and unstuffy. EVERY guest has commented since on the amazing venue so I would strongly advise anyone looking for somewhere in the area to go try it out. Brilliant!

Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

Thank you to Donna and the team behind the scenes for a warm welcome and great breakfasts all round. 30 breakfasts served with ease, all on the beautiful banks of the Thames, overlooking the field of horses, and Mapledurham house.🏃🏃♀️🏃♂️
