My favourite bar in the world. The best selection of beer I have ever come across. Specifically Belgian beer. Best Belgian beer pub I have come across. They also have a selection of Mezcal which is niche and amazing because I love mezcal. The atmosphere is amazing (eclectic and laid back) the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and nice to my baby boy. The food is vegetarian and basically German bar/pub staples like curry wurst. I’ll have a bigger portion of sauerkraut though next time guys! See you again soon!

It's an absolutely superb place. Great food, extensive and well chosen beer selection and friendly service.

One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had! A plate full of vegetables, including Yorkshire pudding, good gravy, mini-potatoes and lots more. Three options for the roast plate, I chose the Wellington. I've also enjoyed the cheeseburger and chips. Very good beer selection, including local Deya and other regional beers, besides international ones. Almost all of the beers and ciders are vegan. A creative cocktail menu also. Pleasant service.

It is so great to have this classic pub but vegan! Everything we hade were delicious. We tried the Sunday roast (on Sunday) and the fish and chips and hot sauce cauliflower (on Friday). Notice every day they have a different menu (depends on the day). They have this great variety of beers, and the atmosphere is super fun. Can't recommend enough.

Fabulous discovery and my favourite place to go now! Amazong selection of drinks (great to see proper ciders and not just the most popular ones)! Had the sharing platter of nibbles too

Popped in after watching some rugby at Ashton gate. Very nice place. Food was good, staff were very welcoming. Interesting drinks available also. Try a pickle back.. very good

This is the perfect spot if you want to pose a little, pay £5 minimum for a real ale, think £6 for anything else. The wider beer range is fine, but this is a bar really, not a pub, also not very friendly.

I love this place. It’s got a unique selling point being vegan and German food/beer, they allow dogs and they have crosswords on the bar! Their roasts are excellent too. My only slight complaint is not enough gravy! And that’s from someone who doesn’t like a lot. But gorgeous food. I love it here

We love this place. Have made a journey a few times in the last couple of months to come here. All vegan food, and one of the best vegan hotdogs and burgers around! Great choice of ipa/alcohol. Friendly and helpful staff. A great place to come too!

Went for after work drinks , haven't been here for ages. Not impressed, staff very off hand and don't seem to care. The decor is tired and scruffy. Shame as such a prime site.

This is one of the best bars in Bristol - if not THE best. Amazing draft beer selection, and a whole menu of Belgian and German bottles. Good sour beers and cider too. Funky interior, good crowd, helpful, friendly bar staff. Just a cool place to drink amazing amazing booze.

We love the old bookshop for date night! Fantastic food, great drinks, and a phenomenal vibe. Highly recommend spending an evening here! Update: we keep coming back to the old bookshop and it is now one of our favorite places on North Street!

Haven't been to the OB since the previous owner moved on - used to be great but seems to have lost some vital ingredients. The food is all vegan which is okay except that it wasn't - my husband had the 'curry of the week' (a sort of green bean thing which looked like it might been the curry of last week - he had the sxxxts afterwards so that tells you something). I had the butternut squash curry which was okay except the curry was almost cold by the time the rice came out 10 minutes later. I'm putting it down as average instead of poor because the drinks were good and the meal wasn't too expensive but the real turn off was the background music. I don't know what you'd call it - heavy metal, maybe - but it sounded to me like some really terrible local rock band and soooo loud. We had to shout to hear each other, the up shot being we didn't stay for another drink and couldn't wait to leave.

This is probably the best Indian food I've ever had when you're looking for vegan/plant-based. So much choice and literally everything was delicious. Affordable too. Will be back!

I've been here twice and I can't explain it but everyone is excessively loud. Everyone in there just shouts at the person sitting right next to them. We had to leave as it was just too loud. Other than that though great range of tasty drinks on offer here.

Great little pub with a nice selection of board games and some good beers on tap. I've had food there a couple of times and it's always been really good, love that they mix it up!

We have visited a few times and every time thoroughly enjoy ourselves. They have a huge beer menu with many from around the globe- my personal favourite is the Helles on draft, simple but delicious! And the chips are some of the best in Bristol, for a simple bar snack they are perfect! And the garlic mayo is equally delicious

Clinical, no atmosphere , living on past glories, delusions of grandeur. Very rude staff. Was a unique place, now risible.

Great beer, great decor, music very aggressive! Turning it off would be better, or even mixing it up with songs people would know.

Amazing vegan food - the fries and flatbreads are so so tasty. Love the music, not often can you go to a pub and hear punk which is well up my street!! Amazing atmosphere, always seems to open to all different people!

We couldn’t decide whether or not to go out or eat in on this Monday evening but so glad we went out. The bar staff were really friendly and I was recommended a really nice wine. The food was absolutely delicious, I enjoyed it so much! I can’t wait to come back and will be back with my sister for food in a couple of weeks.

Good pub, good beers and friendly staff

Popped in for a drink before a rugby game. Really lovely staff, helping you to select the right beer or beverage of choice. The beer is stunning. My wife said she had the best G&T she'd ever had!! Such a lovely atmosphere, we will be back.

Casi pasamos caminando mientras caminábamos por la calle North en busca de arte callejero, pero me alegro de habernos detenido. Bar realmente agradable con muchos toques extravagantes como taxidermia, steam punk, etc. Cervezas locales de barril. Las pizzas estaban a mitad de precio 12 - 3 y totalmente frescas con combinaciones creativas de aderezos. ¡También las patatas fritas posiblemente las mejores que he probado! El servicio también es amable y relajado. Si fuera local definitivamente volvería.

Fui aquí para el almuerzo del domingo, tuve el lentejas y champiñones Wellington. Las papas asadas estaban crujientes por fuera y esponjosas por dentro, las verduras cocinadas a la perfección, el queso de coliflor sabroso e incluido en el precio, la remolacha era la más sabrosa que he probado y toda la comida estaba muy caliente. El Wellington fue un cambio agradable, pero en realidad no es lo mío. El personal fue amable y atento. Una gran ventaja para mí es que son súper amigables con los perros. No puedo esperar para regresar

Caminé tranquilamente un sábado por la noche, me dirigí al bar, esperando que me sirvieran, tocando buena música en vivo, luego fue mi turno en el Que solo para que me dijeran '' No servir a grupos de muchachos ''. ¡Me gustaría señalar ahora que no éramos un grupo de "muchachos"!éramos cuatro amigos, con una edad promedio de 40 años reuniéndonos para tomar unas copas, lo que no sucede a menudo, ya que todos nos hemos establecido y hemos tenido familias.¡Entendería si fuera un grupo grande y entramos cantando y gritando!preguntamos de nuevo y nos dijeron lo mismo, en ese momento pensamos que nuestro dinero ganado con esfuerzo se gastaría mejor en otro lugar y nos iríamos en silencio. No volveremos!

A quirky bar and restaurant located at the slightly less fashionable end of North Street, I’ve been in here a few times for drinks previously and always enjoyed the vibe, but had not eaten Sunday lunch here before. We were here for Sunday lunch, and the menu said it was by Leon’s Kitchen, so I assume they have outside caterers in to do the food rather than doing it in house. I opted for the cider braised pork belly with apple and ginger compote and crackling. Overall it was a generous portion, but the meat size seemed quite small in proportion to the amount of vegetables. I really felt as though I was eating a dish of vegetables with a bit of pork on the side. The meat itself was very good though, tender and tasty and there was a wide selection of accompanying vegetables. Perhaps a little too wide to be honest, they included beetroot and a weird root vegetable that I’ve not come across before. Sometimes less is more, especially as far as traditional roasts go. Across the table, the garlic roast lamb leg with salsa verde was somewhat less successful, being a quite fatty and rather gristly piece of meat and it was served just about warm rather than piping hot. Again, it was decided that the unusual vegetable selection didn’t really suit the dish.A sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream to finish was pretty good, light and fluffy rather than heavy and dense as can sometimes be the case, and a lovely creamy ice cream. It could definitely have done with more caramel sauce though, that seemed rather thin on the ground.Overall, I quite enjoyed this, it’s got a great atmosphere and the staff are relaxed and friendly, but I won’t be rushing back for the food, or at least, not until they’ve got somebody else in to do it.

Really struggled to find anything appealing on the menu which wasn’t carb laden. Had the falafel which was nice although over done. That was the best tasting and the best bit about the venue unfortunately. Tables and chairs by the window are mismatched which means one person has to sit higher than the other - feels and looks rather odd to me, not to my comfort I’m afraid. Table service was slow and my other dish - the salt and pepper squid - came deep fried which wasn’t advertised as such on the menu. Staff were polite though and a clean and warm venue.

A regular and a fan but my roast today was disappointing, although tasty. The meat portion was tiny, 1 small slice of beef as was my partner’s lamb, more like a tasty plate of veg rather than the Sunday roast I was anticipating. Had a pint of Cornish Best Ale which was on form.

Maravilloso asado, todo totalmente delicioso con la inclusión de algunas verduras más inusuales como la alcachofa de Jerusalén y la remolacha asada. Probamos la pechuga de pollo rellena, la verdura Wellington y el cordero asado de ajo con salsa verde. No me puedo quejar de nada y buen tamaño de las porciones. Los pudines de Yorkshire se abrieron con salsa cuando se cortaron (¡buen toque!) Y el queso de coliflor que se incluyó en el precio y salió por separado fue fantástico, en realidad rezumaba queso cheddar maduro, no ese estiércol blanco insípido que a menudo obtienes. No se ofrecen entrantes aparte de Bloody Mary (que estaba bien, ya que el asado era abundante), pero quedarse sin uno de los 2 pudines en oferta era destripador, ya que a ninguno de nosotros nos gustó la otra opción. Si no fuera por esto, habría obtenido 5 estrellas. Volvería al 100% pero reservaría antes de la 1 pm para evitar más decepciones de pudín.¡Sigan con el buen trabajo y elogie a todo el personal que ofreció un servicio encantador!

We only stopped for drinks in a visit to my son and his wfe but this is a really quirky little pub with great atmosphere nd well worth a visit when checking out Bristiol

Drinks are on the pricey side (not uncommon for such pubs on North Street) but the interior is fun and there's an interesting - albeit small - smoking area. The roasts here on the other hand are out of this world!! So tasty - perfectly roasted veggies, some of the best cauli cheese ever and really nice veggie option. Can't comment on any other food here but will definitely be a repeat offender for devouring their roasts.

Iv been to a few gigs here which are great, small venue so super personal experience. Food is ALWAYS good, have eaten here so many times with different menus. Drinks selection is great. Staff are really friendly and chatty, Iv been stuck waiting for a friend for an hour and been chatting away to bar staff and regulars. Highly recommend.

The atmosphere and staff was great but the food NO. Plenty of veg but either burnt, under cooked or been stood around for a very long time, the pork was OK which I did eat but left the rest. Sorry but will not be going there again.

Epic. How have I missed this place! It close to the house. Amazing cocktails by Betty and a pretty damn good beer selection. I like some higher ABV choices, but I can't complain with the offerings. Sunday roasts should be tried.

Realmente una de las mejores cenas de asado que he tenido en Bristol. Sabores sobresalientes, y se adaptan al gluten tan bien, mi plato se amontonó alto para compensar el hecho de que no podía comer el queso de coliflor. Yo estaba en la luna, gran personal excelente comida!

Vive a unos 10 minutos, así que ven aquí un poco, el personal siempre es agradable, la comida es excelente y el buen ambiente. Además, perdí mi permiso de conducir en NYE (ni me di cuenta de que faltaba) y Andy, el gerente, fue lo suficientemente amable como para encontrarme en Facebook y avisarme que lo tenían. 10/10

Really nice Sunday lunch with a great atmosphere. The building (2 old shops knocked together) creates a quirky interior that's more cosy boozer than gastro pub but the food is definitely at the upper end of what you're likely to find in a standard pub.

Not your usual pub, or pub grub for that matter.... A charming and popular cosy restaurant with quirky surroundings providing a varied menu for all tastes including vegan. Mid-range prices, not cheap, but the price reflects the surroundings, the presentation and the quality of the food. A wide and varied bar selection. Definitely a place to take someone special or for a special occasion. Would definitely recommend.

Compré entradas para un evento que se celebra aquí, y poco después supe que debía contactarme con el lugar para preguntarme qué tipo de ayuda podrían brindarme como persona discapacitada. Lo expliqué todo: que tengo articulaciones muy inestables, uso una muleta y tengo problemas para estar de pie por mucho tiempo, y que me preocupaba que me golpearan en una aglomeración / colas.

Quirky and cool and amazing roasts!

Un gran pub independiente con una selección de cervezas y sidras locales e internacionales en borrador. Un área temática náutica para fumar / vapear que es muy acogedora. Un menú decente con comida bien presentada. Precios un poco más altos que otros en la zona, pero vale la pena por la experiencia.

A lovely little pub with plenty of character. Excellent selection of real ales that are well kept, plus some nice lagers and ciders too. Barstaff are very friendly and helpful. Seating areas can get busy so might be worth coming a little early in busy evenings. The food is incredible and the menu changes quite regularly, so we'll worth a repeat visit!

Bar com estilo retrô cheio de detalhes interessantes, música ambiente nem sempre boa, mas ótimos shows de graça. Cerveja gelada e equipe eficiente. Já fui sozinha e com amigos. Estive lá, numa das vezes, no Record Store Day. Sempre vou para beber, mas acredito que tenha boas opções de comida vegana e gf, como em muitos lugares em Bristol.

Interesting and different pub/restaurant serving excellent Sunday Roast, went there with my wife and the grandchildren last Sunday and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it.

Quirky pub, with lots of interesting memorabilia. One of the best Sunday roasts I have had in Bristol, good menu, reasonable prices and excellent service from all of the staff involved. All very friendly, efficient and helpful. I would highly recommend to all friends and family and will be visiting again very soon.

The staff were amazing and very friendly, the manager took time out of his busy day to stop and talk about the place and the food/beer etc and was a great guy. Last bus not least I’ll hapily give the head chef a 10/10 for an amazing meal!

We've tried this place out a few different times since it looks very interesting with it's quaint exterior or because friends suggested it, but we've been put off every time. The staff never seem very friendly or welcoming, particularly when it's quiet and it feels like you're putting them out by being there but also when it's busy. The outdoor area is pretty cosy when it's quiet, but cramped when it gets busy. We went in a couple of times to try the food and ended up just bailing to go up the street to the Spotted Cow. I'd recommend you do the same!

Looking for somewhere different to try Sunday roast & this place had good reviews. Had sign outside saying 'best Sunday roast in Bristol'. Well I wouldn't go that far - it was OK.

Wasn’t too impressed. The heating was on for a little while after complaints, but switched off again to being freezing. Not sure why it’s so hyped up - The food wasn’t that amazing either. Maybe on nights with live music it has a different vibe. The friendliness of the bar staff makes up for it!

Fortunately for me this is one of my locals. The Old Bookshop achieves something that all pubs aspire to: your local boozer, a great neighbourhood restaurant, somewhere to see a band, outstanding roast on a Sunday - not all necessarily at the same time. If...

Visited with old friends who recommend, great service, happy staff, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Food was excellent and good value for money (£17 2 courses). Will definately return next time we visit. Very popular would recommend booking, free street parking on a Sunday too.
