Good quality and choice of bread, cakes, pastries etc. from the bakery. The fruit pies and sausage rolls are very good too!! All in all a super independent tea room and bakery, with friendly staff serving a good selection of lovely meals from the tea room. Great coffee too, so well worth the visit.

This business provided catering for a private family party of 20 adults and 5 children. The food was of a fantastic quality, served on large platters and also provided a single platter for a Vegan member of the party. Fabulous quality, mixture of finger foods and wonderful cakes and pastries. There was a lot of food provided, more than expected, and everyone enjoyed taking home some of the cakes. I would highly recommend the catering service to anyone. Very satisfied with the delivery, on time on the day too.

Went here for lunch with my husband on a Monday in August, so it was busy in the town in general and busy at this restaurant too. My husband ordered a cheese roll and I ordered a Ploughman’s, which came with Brie as well as Cheddar cheese; he asked them to leave the Brie off (because I can’t stand the stuff!) but when my food came it was there, a huge great slab of it, which was just wasteful. I was still prepared to pay the full price for the meal, I just wanted to prevent wastage. The food was just ok, nothing special, and the mugs of tea (£1.90) came as mugs of hot water and the bags to ‘do it yourself’. However, the major problem at this restaurant was the lack of toilet facilities. This should be clearly stated in signage above the door, on the counter, or on the menus, so that customers can make an informed decision whether to eat there. My husband has an ileostomy (like a colostomy but more active) and once he has eaten, he needs to visit the toilet. To be told the nearest toilets are ‘down by the Albion’ (wherever that is, we are not from Broadstairs) is not good enough. To be honest, anyone who has been walking around Broadstairs all morning will probably have waited to use the restaurant’s toilet during their lunch stop rather than using a public toilet, not just people with disabilities. The Restaurant has responded to other posts on here about not having toilet facilities, their reason is that they are over 300 yrs old and are therefore exempt from providing them. They should then, as previously suggested, have highly visible signage stating as much before potential customers place an order; we would not have eaten here had we known. If signage is not possible, then perhaps their whole premises should be a takeaway facility, as per the other half of their premises, which sells bakery items and drinks to take away.

My wife and I had another day out in Broadstairs recently and as we always do went straight to the New Old Bakehouse because this absolutely lovely place is not to be missed and although we have visited many times you just can't have to much!! Where to start? The staff are absolutely 110% and can't do enough to make your visit as pleasant as possible. The coffee is really great and cheaper than Costa! The cakes, sausage rolls and everything else are perfect. Thank you Maria, will visit again on our next visit.

1-min review: Pros: - super friendly service, it’s what all seaside places should be like - really tasty traditional pastries and sandwiches - the full English breakfast was amazing, especially the scrambled eggs - great pies as well! - seating outside as well as inside - really close to the beach, can’t beat the location Cons: - on hot days, the inside area would be too hot to enjoy your tea and cakes - can be a queue at busy times, especially during peak summer Overall: - superb place for tea and cakes, in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere, which is a rarity for city folk!

My boyfriend and I were there on a student exchange trip for a lunch date. The atmosphere was great, our only issues were the seagulls (but that’s not the café’s fault) and that the ordering process is a little bit confusing. Also the food portion were a little bit smaller than expected. Overall a great experience though!

I take an early morning walk daily into town for a coffee and early breakfast. I also pick up our bread for the week, we particularly like the spelt which is baked daily, as I’m early it’s still often warm nothing like the smell of warm bread fantastic. The staff are all really friendly and I like the fact that they remember your daily orders which makes you feel special as a regular customer.

We thought that the cafe had great charm and looked like the kind of place where we would get a good home baked lunch. The waitress may have been new as she did not have a good grasp of the menu. We opted for a meat ploughmans and quiche and salad. However, 2 thin slices of wet ham, a handful of very moist lettuce leaves, a white pickled onion, a dish of branston pickle, a small tomato and 2 thin dry slices of brown bread do not a ploughmans make. The quiche was no better as it was very thin, tasteless and was typical supermarket fare. Drinks ok but nothing special and as has already been commented on the seats were very uncomfortable and all tables wobbled (i understand they were on flagstones) All in all a very disappointing start to our holiday

A lot of places were closed but a little queue formed outside this coffee shop with the welcoming aroma of freshly baked bread. The shop is tiny with one person entering at a time but it operates a one way system and all staff were wearing masks. The coffee and hot chocolate was excellent and the macaroons truly delicious. In fact all of the cakes looked superb. The gentleman who served us (I assume the owner) was very polite and engaging. Had been for a walk today with my son and daughter, inevitably they were 'starving' before the 5 minute trip back home. As a lot of places were shut due to covid restrictions, it was a welcome site to see The Old Bakehouse open. I have bought their bread many times, which has always been lovely so we thought we chance and see if they had any lunch food available. The shop is very small so only one person is allowed inat a time, with mask. Was nice to see the staff wore face masks too and they were really friendly. We bought three 'Cornish' style Pasties. Made with puff pastry, and still hot, these are the best Pasties I have tasted for a long time. They were nicely cooked and filled with a super tasty minced beef and chunky veg. The whole Pastie had a really lovely taste. Will definitely be visiting again for these and the staff are very lovely and welcoming too - win, win.

I had to wait an hour whilst my MOT was done so, after doing those inevitable chores you always seem to accrue, I wandered off to find something to eat. I'd been the the Bakehouse PC (Pre-Covid) and promised myself to return. I just didn't factor in lockdown etc.The tiny tea-room was open, the tables all had their own bottle of hand sanitizer - nice touch. The staff wore masks and cleaned tables etc between customers. If you've ever been inside this tea-room, obtaining a distance of two metres is somewhat impossible, since the room is barely much bigger than that.I ordered a lovely pot of Darjeeling and a welsh rarebit which came with a salad garnish. My goodness, it was a hearty size. Two doorstep white slices of fresh bread, smothered in rarebit mixture. It was delightful. Sadly, I couldn't fit in the last two pieces. And I'd thought to keep my trim shape! Fortunately, if you know Broadstairs at all, the hill climb back to the garage after more than burnt off the majority of calories.

We always buy lots of spelt bread, apple strudel and mince pies when we visit Broadstairs. Unfortunately we were unable to make the journey this time and asked if it was possible to have mail order. We ordered three dozen mince pies and they arrived by parcel force in perfect condition. All individually wrapped and well protected in a box.The best mince pies we have ever tasted and we could not wait until Christmas to eat them and have already started on them.Forget the rubbish you buy in supermarkets and go to the Old Bakehouse for your mince pies this year and you will not be disappointed.

Gorgeous afternoon tea, including a sandwich, cake, scone and either a pot of tea or coffee. Amazing amount for only £9.95 each with no booking needed. Friendly warm environment and the waitress could not be any lovelier even when very busy.

The few visits I've made I've always taken away donuts or pastry's so can only comment on that. The quality is ok, think of Greggs quality and you wont be far off, maybe a bit better on certain products.

Felicity’s Cafe at Quex in Birchington is an absolute gem. Picture this—you roll up to this quaint little spot, and from the second you walk in, it’s got that vibe. Friendly, warm, like you’re part of the family. We’re talking fresh, local ingredients that just hit differently. The coffee? Smooth. The cakes? Sweet but not too sweet. Service? Spot on. The folks here treat you right, not in some fake, scripted way. You can tell they care, like they want every dish to be a hit, and let me tell you—it is. You want cozy, comfort, and quality all wrapped up in one? Felicity’s Cafe nails it.

My friend and I went here for the first time on a weekday lunchtime and found seating downstairs. As all busy upstairs and we didn’t want to sit outside or in the covered walkway to the cinema area. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and coffee. I had prawn and avocado sandwich on brown bread with salad and Kent Crisps my friend had smoked Salmon and cream cheese bagel that also came with salad and crisps. The cakes looked very nice but we were a bit full to try them probably will in our next visit. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back!
