My friend and I went here for the first time on a weekday lunchtime and found seating downstairs. As all busy upstairs and we didn’t want to sit outside or in the covered walkway to the cinema area. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and coffee. I had prawn and avocado sandwich on brown bread with salad and Kent Crisps my friend had smoked Salmon and cream cheese bagel that also came with salad and crisps. The cakes looked very nice but we were a bit full to try them probably will in our next visit. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back!

Not long moved down to Thanet and this was our first trip to Westgate. Went into Fredericks on the off chance that we could have lunch. The lady asked if we had booked and we had to say no…didn’t realise we needed to. It was very busy but, the lady behind the counter said if we waited a few minutes they would have a table for the 4 of us downstairs. Well, the staff were really lovely, the food was really good, we were all well pleased with our lunch, one of the best panini sandwiches I’ve had and the prawn sandwich and jacket potatoes with choice of fillings were also very good. We will definitely be returning again, but, will book in advance as it’s next to the cinema and may well be busy. A lovely cafe and we will definitely have to try their cake next time too. Thank you

As a visitor to the area I walked with my dog to find coffee - and after 3 miles (from Minnis Bay) I stumbled on this absolute beaut of a tea room. Dog friendly and with delicious hot coffee to take away - with a slice of one of the best lemon drizzle cakes I’ve ever had (complete with fork!). My dog and I were made to feel very welcome by staff and the owner. Will definitely be back! Thank you for a great start to my day!

We didn't eat at Frederick's as we had only just arrived and we wanted a cuppa before joining our first session of the Westgate Literary Festival. A lovely shabby chic looking restaurant. I had a lovely cup of tea and my husband enjoyed his coffee (he can be a bit picky). It was lovely sitting outside in the hot autumn sunshine. Loved the china teapots on the table with heather in them....and they were real, not those plastic imitations. Look forward to my next cup of tea in Fredericks. We will be visiting very soon.

There is a small group, of mostly ladies, who meet every Wednesday morning, downstairs, from 10am-12noon who knit, stitch, crochet, darn and string a yarn over personally bought cups of tea & coffee. Sometimes even a toasted tea cake, or slice of homemade cake is gobbled whilst crafters share knowledge and know how. There’s no membership commitment just friendly service in a great location. We love Frederick’s. It’s our home from home. Staff are great and food options are always freshly made and delivered with bright smiles. We wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I had heard lots about the tearoom attached to the cinema so was looking forward to my visit. I found it very disappointing. I wondered if it had changed hands. The hot chocolate was so strong, luke warm and the teacake was dry with hardly any currants and not enough butter. I also felt it was expensive. I did not have cream on my hot chocolate but marshmallows. I asked if I had been charged for the cream and the waitress then commented 'Oh I've forgotten to charge you for the marshmallows", which apparently is the same price as with cream too. She then changed the price and added an extra 50p without any apology. So will not be visiting again. I got beautiful scones with jam and two cups of tea for two people in Herne Bay for less than the cost I paid for one at Fredericks Tearooms.

Simplemente wow!

Came here for a cream tea with my partner. We were greeted which was nice and we sat down in a lovely spot out of the way. The space did feel rather enclosed but it was still nice nonetheless. The menu was a bit pricey but it was a nice experience to have a one off cream tea. The cups for the tea were old, delicate China cups which my partner unfortunately could not use as the handle was too small for his fingers. Not all of the cups are like this however. Overall a nice place to have tea and a scone.

Great atmosphere and food. Having two large windows, it's light here even on a cloudy day. It can get busy so I've eaten downstairs and it's perfectly fine - but if there's room then I much prefer eating upstairs with the nice view out of the windows. The staff are usually helpful and friendly and it's handy for eating or having a cuppa before or after visiting (or both!) the lovely Westgate Carlton cinema. The china here is very pretty and there's a wide choice of freshly prepared food. Even gluten-free bread and bagels on offer! I've tried quite a few options (including both "normal" bread sandwiches and the gluten-free bagels) and have never had a bad meal. The afternoon tea options are fantastic value. I love their plain scones (they have fruit ones too) with clotted cream and jam and their cakes are always delicious. We have been here several times before and in between visits always forget how unfriendly the staff are. We had cake and coffee, and cream scone and tea. The scone tasted just like the ones I buy in Morrisons, if it was home-cooked as advertised I would be amazed. This time I am going to remember not to come back because if, for these prices, the blonde waitress cannot manage to say hello, or just to smile, or even to say thank you as we pay, well, there are plenty of places that will (eg Joe's in Minnis Bay sells all the same sort of things and manages to always have a really lovely friendly atmosphere). It wasn't just us either, other people came in and apart from an older man who came in for take-away coffee no-one else got a greeting or a smile either. I love the vintage-y feel of the place (vintage crockery, art deco mirrors on the wall) but not enough to come back and be made to feel unwelcome yet again.

Lovely food and service, but no attempt made to fit in with the hours of the cinema it shares an entrance with, which is incomprehensible . Tried to book afternoon tea on Father's day prior to 5.30 film, the tea room shuts at 3pm. It is the middle of summer, by the sea, on a popular day for going out! Only in England!

Took my mother for a special Carlton tea. Very tasty sandwiches, crumbly scones and a delicious range of cakes all served on pretty china with good tea. Very English.

Another visit to Fredericks did not disappoint. We love this traditional tea room with its friendly staff and wonderful food. There is a wide selection of traditional English treats, all prepared to a high standard, and served in a relaxed atmosphere. We had lunch and were impressed with the salads, which came with generous portions.

A beautiful tea room. Wonderful selection of very British tea time treats, all delicious and served on vintage china. Service was friendly and extremely polite. Will be returning with many friends for future afternoon teas. Ideally just a short stroll from the station.

Visited the tea rooms with a friend who is wheat intolerant. This - for once - was not a problem, quite the opposite. She had a vast choice of cakes and found it difficult to decide what to have! The waitress also told us that you can get even more choice if you come earlier in the day! Fabulous. A bit on the expensive side but you do get what you pay for!!!

Food was first class can highly recommend . Service leaves a lot to be desired though . No inter action with the waitresses , they need to learn to smile . Both walked past our table when we had finished starters without taking the plates . Curt response when we asked for cutlery .

Staff were cold and unfriendly. Cliquey and pretentious vibe. Asked for extra hot coffee and it was luke warm at best. Disappointed as had heard good things and was really looking forward to trying.
