Paul’s Bar & Bistro in Thanet

I strongly suggest not to go to this bar/restaurant we were good customers until we kept getting tabs/bills for extra drinks/food etc that we didn’t order! The last straw was when we paid a bill then half hr later we got asked to pay again!! I showed the waitress my mobile banking which showed we had already paid but just got a load of abuse fm the staff!! Never been back!! They are fraudently making money doing this to people!! A definite No No!!!

Dumping a pint of florescent yellow sludge from a carton on some poached eggs does not constitute Eggs Benedict nor justify the extortionate price. Probably the most disgusting breakfast I've ever had from a 'Bistro'. If you want to serve food, employ a chef.

Best breakfast I've had in Thanet in a long time. Fresh tasting high quality, not a long wait and perfectly filling. Can't recommend enough

Popped in for a drink was greeted by a young girl chomping chewing gum who didn’t know what lager was when we asked what they have on tap she went is that moretti or something? Ended up going in and ordering paying nearly £7 for a pint that was a quarter foam (asked for less head but was told the pumps are strong?! Yet a regular had a nice normal poured pint!) just before leaving I decided to use the toilet to be greeted with the chef running out of the kitchen to chase the bar staff around felt like a nursery! A place we used to enjoy going to but won’t bother in future. Also salt is spelt SALT not satt like is currently states on the specials board.

We stayed in Westgate for the weekend. We stopped here for a drink on Friday afternoon. We came back on Saturday for Lunch... I had the Sausage & Mash & my mate had the Pan fried chicken. 10/10 for flavour & portion size. We all came back for breakfast on Sunday and Monday morning because the food and service was brilliant. Big thanks to little Char and Donna for their brilliant service and welcome.

Super lovely staff we were aloud to bring the two little dogs inside and they have a breakfast all day. We had searched for a breakfast in three different cafes around the area and this was the only place that had one after mid day. Unfortunately you can't pick a different form of egg on this though. Only fried. But overall tasted great, lovely staff and spent about £30 for two people.

I had a quick meal here waiting to see someone in Westgate. I liked the homely atmosphere and the friendly staff. Food was nice as well.

I would definitely recommend this place. The food was really good and plentiful. The service was quick and staff were friendly. The bar/restaurant itself was very welcoming.

The bacon appeared overcooked and the sausage seemed to have been deep-fried. It is unfortunate, as our experience with the lunchtime menu last year was enjoyable.

Chanced upon this place on a spontaneous day revisiting my childhood at Westgate People who know me know I’m a major cook and foodie and critical , but, had THE best cauliflower cheese soup in history It was like a hug ! Far exceeded expectations Now to revisit Mildred’s Bay and the other eaterie which I will def use for an upcoming family occasion. Make sure you visit!

We have been a number of times now different days of the week, the foods is always wonderfully hot with lots of vegetables. Staff are polite and helpful. My only downside is that they don't do a chicken roast on Sundays

The crockery was dirty and covered in stains even when replaced with “clean” crockery. Food was nice but was concerned about cleanliness Service was good and staff very pleasant.

The staff are so polite and respectful haven't tried the food yet but looks fantastic it's a great place to relax and chill

We've been here several times for breakfast & it's been great every time. They source their meat from a local butcher ( RC wale) and it shows.

Haven't been in here for ages, so imagine my surprise to see how the place has been so stylishly renovated. Loved it and frlt very comfortable there.Only problem, it was really busy and waited ages to be finally served. Maybe a victim of its own success...?

Brilliant night. We all enjoyed the entertainment. Visiting again in a couple of weeks. Can't wait. Host and staff were brilliant.

Very average prawn salad, mainly lettuce and other leaves. Prawns quite cold. Wife had baked potato with prawns upset her tummy. Not good value as small potions. Dish to eat from would prefer a plate. No side plate to put bread onto.

Came here for a meal before cinema. Food was really good but shame about the service. We both wanted another drink and desert, but the staff simply didn't come over. Had to call someone over and ask for the bill and leave so we didn't miss the cinema. Shame really.

Excellent quality breakfast. We have recently had breakfast twice at this restaurant near the station in Westgate. Quality sausage, thick bacon and great bubble and squeak. Service by the manager Donna and the team is excellent for £8 we thought it was brilliant value.

Come here often with friends. Really good food, nice drinks and friendly staff. My favourite personally is either smashed avocado, nachos or pitta and humous.

Lovely food but very expensive drinks for thanet, its not London ! and lose the 10% service charge, it does say on receipt that is goes to staff but your staff get a wage and you should not include service charge it should be up to the customer to leave a tip. Your food was amazing but at the end of the day your paying £12.95 for a burger so 10% on top is just greedy, I will not be back

Was recommended this fantastic place for breakfast as our local bistro has been taken over and sadly standards have slipped, we were welcomed as soon as we went in and seated by the window, the atmosphere was lovely as king’s coronation was being broadcast and bunting etc was up. I had the full English with a massive portion of bubble and squeak, the sausage was delicious and the quality of food was high quality. My partner had poached eggs on avocado thick cut white bloomer. The food really was fabulous but what is so hard to find now is the quality of service we received, they are charging in my opinion to little for what they provide due to the quality of products used, all condiments on table were named branded so no horrible sticky bottles!!! Full English was £8, such a bargain. We will definitely be going back soon as they are open till 23:00hrs and have a wide range of cocktails and live entertainment.

We walked into Westgate from home and ended up at Paul’s for a drink and light lunch. We choose Tempura Prawns with chilli sauce and salad and pita bread with hummus and salad which we shared between us and drinks . It was a lovely lunch and fed our appetite at the moment of time . Great staff and lovely ambience to eat and the food was well priced and excellent portions .

Quiet - but bear in mind it was Sunday evening. Although no hot food, I did manage to order a lovely scone and clotted cream with my glass of Pinot.

We chose this place for lunch as it looked nice and it was, staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was nice and arrived very quickly. My main gripe and why I have given 3 stars and would be reluctant to return is because of the following. We ordered two sandwiches from the specials for the day, they came with a small portion of chips. We weren’t told how much the specials were but I figured as it was a sandwich it couldn’t be that much. When I went to pay the bill it came to nearly £30! We’d had two sandwiches and two drinks. I didn’t realise this until I checked my bill afterwards, we had been charged £10 each for the sandwiches and then an additional 10% service charge had been added on on top. I like the option of choosing whether to leave a tip and if it had been an evening meal would certainly have done so. But for lunch! On two sandwiches and without even being asked, it really did make me cross. I am happy to support independents, times are hard, but they are also hard for customers too and tips should not automatically be added onto food which is already highly priced without consent from the customer.

Took my mum to Paul's for a Mothers Day Sunday roast and we were not disappointed. My vegetarian mum had the nut roast and I had the chicken. There were plenty of veggies and a tasty cauliflower cheese, and we each got a pot of gravy - we had everything we needed! It really hits the spot if you're on the hunt for a good old Sunday roast at an affordable price.

Served promptly by welcoming staff. I enjoyed some 'lite bites' that satisfied my hunger. The only criticism is it can be somewhat crowded but I will be returning to enjoy the fare once more.

Went for a light lunch and as I love a jacket potato I went for that option, as did my friend. We both said how much we enjoyed them. We had the prawns in sauce and there was a lovely fresh salad on the side....

Enter the establishment at 14:00 ordered a pint on Moretti, ordered a second drink roughly 40 minutes later at which point the owner felt the need to say to me “you’re not sitting in here and getting pissed” extremely rude, poor customer manor, very dissatisfied!

Always good food in here, served by friendly staff and run by a great guy. Well done Paul and the whole crew.

Just had a really lovely chilled out dinner with my husband. Two very friendly young staff who were so kind and attentive. They obviously knew some of the customers and it was lovely to see such friendly interactions. Great food. Lovely space. I would think it would be a lovely place for a quick lunch or a coffee as well. Definitely recommend.
