The Ocean in Leicester

Waited for about 40 minutes, wouldn't complain to much if they gave me what I paid for which was a large and small chips and sausages, they waited 40 minutes just to not give me my small chips which I paid for, place is usually good but recently is having a pretty shocking decline in service

Kebab portions have dramatically changed, I’ve ordered dozens of times from this place and the portion is literally half of what it was. Why is this, why is the price still the same and why hasn’t it been stated anywhere that the portions are different? I have also had stale nan bread recently along with the wrong sauce used. Not impressed.

Still as good as ever thankfully. This fish & chip shop has been here since before I was born! Tonight's order, 2 large haddock, small chips & 2 mushy peas. Everything was excellent. The lady who was serving was so lovely and the other customers we encountered, obviously regulars, were well looked after. Everyone seemed to smile!

Ordered fish and chips delivery for tea tonight from ocean chippy aylmer Road when it arrived there was a layer off cold so called chips in the bottom off the box and a very skinny over cooked fish ontop off the chips it was broken into 3 peices it looked like half the fish had been eaten out off the batter when I rang to complain there excuse was the fish was to big so they had to break it to fit in the long box they sent half empty the so called chips were cold like cardboard and the fish was tasteless had more skin than fish was very dry for 15 quid you would expect better quality and service wasnt offered any refund disgusting won't be buying from there again if that's how they treat custom

I used to frequent this chippy when I lived in Aylestone. I always loved that they did some specials as well as the standard chippy grub - their fried chicken is amazing, and they used to do a Battered Pigs In Blanket! I went again recently and whilst it was good, in all honesty the prices and portions let them down. A large chips cost £4.20, and compared to other chippys it wasn't what id consider a large portion. I had two pieces of the fried chicken and even though it still had that lovely homemade batter, the meat was very dry. At £2.65p a piece I would have wanted them to be perfect. Its good, but i wont be in a hurry to return.

Can't rate the ocean fish bar high enough food first class staff great can't fault.

Sooooo expensive....and a cube of tomato and a slice of cucumber for salad! No chillies.It is nearly 20 quid now for the ocean special! We got few chips,tiniest salad consisting of slice of cucumber few bits of cabbage and lettuce and cube of tomato...no chillies this is for at least 2 people....joke.

My lad asked me for a chippy dinner as we wasn’t hungry and wanted a snack. I gave him £10 to pop in this chippy. Gave him £10. He came back with a small chips steak and kidney pie and a small curry sauce. Cost him £8.30. Mate they’re taking the Michael. Won’t ever go there again. The chips, pie and curry sauce was cold. Also we have a farm shop 200 mtrs from this joke of a chippy that sell 25kg of potato’s for £10. How did the world start saying this is ok? Won’t use the place again. I can get a steak meal for what he charged my son in harrods.

Lovely little chippy and lovely staff - one of the first places I went to when I became local and didn't disappoint.

The lady that served us was excellent, very polite and attentive. The chips were generous and tasted good, the mushy peas were good but were a very dark green, the potato fritter was a good size but under cooked, the steak and kidney pie was good.

Sadly after 2 attempts of delivering my order by deliveroo they still managed to deliver cold food, I have my address sign posted on my gate and they still park miles away and walk my food to my house, so it's always cold, ocean chippy does lovely food but deliveroo can never get it right for them

Not been for a good 6 months but driving by and used to use this chippy at least twice a month until I had a bad meal before, but will always give places a second chance. Had a LARGE doner kebab, in a pitta with salad and sauce. Pitta was broken up and couldn’t hold anything in, doner meat very dry/ overcooked and for a large potion at £7.30 it was a terrible quantity. Barley any salad and strangely had jalapeños in? And sauce was a tiny amount. Used to rave about the kebabs there when they were cheaper and at least twice the size and so fresh/ tastey!! There is a lot better value around and a lot more competition around there for kebabs and a good selection of chip shops within a few miles. Will try again in the future but won’t be rushing back.

Staying with family nearby, we popped in on a wet rainy evening for fish and chips. I’m used to prices in the south so thought it was incredible value for such big portions. Nicest fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Didn’t wait long at all to be served. Thank you.

Decent food for a fish and chip shop.

We have just had large haddock and small chips. The large haddock was so tasty with the chips went down really well. 👍👍

Prices are ludicrous. Also need to find someone to write their menus up who isn't bloody dyslexic.

Not happy food is great from here but delivery is not I tried to contact about this before posting. Obviously ordered on deliveroo. My curry sauce arrived squashed and looks like it's been crushed and just thrown in the bag and ruined everything else in the bag delivery driver was rude too. Not happy

Only given four out of five because the owner can be a little bit rude and the waiting time is sometimes a bit too much. The lady owner of the partnership is lovely. Katreen or something like that. I think she knows her husband can be an as hole but she smiles and keeps the customers happy. Food is lovely and a good choice and variety too.

Ordered home delivery via deliveroo, 45 mins wait time but not a problem. Have to say the BEST fish and chips we have had for a long time!! Gosh was huge, skinless and batter perfect. Chips were delish as were the mushy peas. Very hot still and nothing soggy x thank you

Best fish n chips Edited 2023 Still the best tasting chippy, lots of choice on the menu to choose from. Andy and kat are just so lovely and welcoming as are all their staff. Daughter is gluten intolerant, so can have the chips and meat kebabs, dont know about anything else as havent asked. But i will do now. I don't know about allergies. Chips were rancid, as if the oil was over used, normally ok, this time very disappointing

I bought a steak & kidney pie and chips. The lady asked the gent if the pies were ready to serve, I don't know what he said but she took out a pie and put it in the microwave. When I got home (less than 5minutes away ) the pie was barely warm and the chips were more like mashed potatoes as they were all broken up and mushy. Not happy at all 😡😠 waste of money and not cheap.

I must say that i really love these food because it's really tasty and very good standard. Because this is a first time I try it but I really enjoyed it

Absolutely rip off So expensive £8 for mini haddock😳 £8 for kebab meat 🙄 What would usually cast me between £12-15.00 at my usual chippy has just cost me 23.50!!! I got home and the fish had huge bones inside Terrible experience Will not be returning that’s for sure!!!

Lovely fish and chips great value for money. Very friendly member of staff at the counter served me and the other was talking to another customer so obviously got great customer service skills as well as cooking. As for those that waited ages I can only say maybe they were very busy with online orders or maybe they made a mistake with yours and started again. I personally would rather wait 30 minutes for great fish and chips but hey if you don’t want to wait I supposed you could always have uncooked cold fish and chips

Service is horrendously slow and it has been for some time. There is not enough staff. Waited 31 minutes in the shop for fish and chips last week, thought we'd give it another go last night and straight away the words "sorry for the wait" were being said. We waited 20 minutes and gave up. Got some food from down the road. Passing the shop on return we heard "sorry for the wait" still having to be said to customers. Won't be going back.

Waited over half an hour for cod and chips. Usually it would be worth the wait but last night the food was awful. Chips were soggy and all stuck together, the batter was falling of the cod and not crispy at all. The portion was a lot smaller than usual too. Won’t be going back

The service is way to slow. I can be waiting for up to 30 mins which is frustrating I could of made my own dinner in that time. Food is nice just need more staff on to serve quicker!!!!

Shocking!! I usually go in for my order but today resulted in me ordering for delivery. It was delayed multiple times and took 1hr to turn up even though it was a 20-30min delivery and when It arrived the portion size wasn't even half of what I get when I go in. Never ordering again for delivery as it costs you more and you get less.

Fantastic chip shop we have started to get ours delivered 😀 it's gorgeous always hot perfect chips perfect burgers 🍔 battered garlic mushrooms 🍄 and scampi yes we have the perfect Friday night supper back well done to Andy and Katerina lovely couple 💑 Had our delivery tonight very disappointing the driver arrived late 😑 the food was cold unusual but spoilt dinner !!! Drivers need to take more care in matching up the post code and address

Haven't been for a couple of year but I must day the best mix chicken kebab I've had in ages and the salad was amazing and well presented. Well done to your son who was helping out. X

Good points: clean; chips not soggy; fish well battered but not over battered; decent portions. Not so good: wasn't at all clear if I was getting cod (which I asked for) or haddock. All in all a very decent Chippy, but must address the fishy issue above.

Walked in to empty shop, the 2 guys working behind the counter couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge me and carried on with their work packing outside orders. Clearly do not need new customers so I just walked out. Don’t bother with the place

Really good chippy. Good staff, good service, good food. So many local chip shops don't do good chips, and the chips taste of chicken, is this from the oil they use? This place is different, and the food here is good.

Since lockdown have been using Deliveroo. Always excellent food, and delivery.

10 min drive got there for half one, closes at 14.00 see lights on food out sign above door says open, door locked with sign saying be back soon waited for 5 min but no one came to open door.

The absolute worst thing I've ever tasted chip hard and cold curry sauce lumpy and pie was cold and tasted really bad. I used to use this chippy a lot really good gone downhill lately.

First order tonight...food was cold and the potatoe fritters were swimming in oil..the chicken breast was cracked and dry and the batter was grey and soggy...items were missing...wouldn't go back again!

The best food in town. Lots of food for great price

We have had quite a few takeaway meals from here and have always been very pleased until tonight. Ordered 3 Mediterranean chicken kebabs and they were awful. All burnt and dry. I called them and a young lady said "sorry about that" she asked no other questions and didn't sound sincere. Very disappointed Ocean and will now take our custom elsewhere.

Spot on deliver on time and quality food

on my way home last friday we stopped for fish and chips but what a wait there were only 3 couples in front of us but had to wait nearly 3/4hr to be served but while we were waiting there must have been at least a dozen delivery drivers for deliveroo and just eat come in and be served some of them twice. so if you want any thing from here ordrer for delivery me i will go Grimsbys next time

Firstly, I've been using this chip shop on Deliveroo for a few deliveries and they have never let us down, not once. The food is always fresh and hot, the value for the portion sizes is genuinely incredible. Always stuffed after the food. Tried a battered Creme Egg and jeez theyre insane. I'd say this is the best chippy in Leicester.

Absolutely stunning food. So glad we are able to collect food in person. Andy and Katrina are brilliant. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Word of warning go for small chips as the portions are huge but well worth the money.

Had a £12.50 deal the other week... it was fantastic!!! We ordered a bag of chips with cheese last night... it was horrible!! The chips were cold, hard and looked like they had been cooked the day before!!! Dissatisfied to say the least.

Fantastic chip shop, the best in Leicester. The portions are massive, I ordered the Big King ocean burger and it was a meal and a half on it's own! Everything was well priced and tasty, and the delivery (through Deliveroo) was very prompt. Thanks for a great meal :)

Stopped at Ocean fish bar last night absolutely starving after doing my last delivery as I work for Ocado. They weren’t taking over the counter orders but made an exception because of my job , and let me have what I can say as the best bag of chips I’ve ever had and for free !! Thank you will definitely call in next when I’m in the area. Fantastic people and superb food 👍👍👍

Prices all gone up. The portion size was not its usual and the salad was dried out, not fresh. Kebab meet was also dry. Wouldn't mind paying the extra but paid more and got less than usual.

Absolutely awful. I ordered through delivaroo for the first time. The fish was covered in rock hard batter. A quarter of it had no fish and the rest had to be scraped out of the rest of the awful hard batter. I wouldn’t have fed it to my dog. I had to throw it away. Delivaroo refunded me the cost of the fish, it would have been nice to have had an apology from the shop. I will never use again.

Just had a lovely F&C order delivered by Deliveroo. Normally I go down myself to get such an order, but now are indeed exceptional times. I myself am not *that* regular a customer but have always appreciated the excellent quality of food and service that Andy and Katerina have provided.PS: now only available via Deliveroo. Entirely understandable. Time for regular customers to support them before it becomes too late....

We have used this chippy as regular customers and it is the best chippy by far. I would deffo recommend them and the staff are the most friendliest family and very welcoming. Katerina and Andy are both always full of smiles and joy which is always good to see and we have made some good friends from visiting this chip shop. Food is made fresh to order as requested. Ocean fish bar is in my opinion the best chippy in the area the food is always fresh and I'd argue that you can't get a bigger fish anywhere in Leicester. The owners are super friendly for me it's a real treat to visit.
