Great family pub,.food beyond my expectations

Been here a couple of times now not a bad word to be said. Super friendly staff very welcoming and polite. Lovely food, generous portions. Will be coming eating here again!

Came for lunch on a very busy Saturday..Emma was absolutely amazing she looked after us and made us feel so welcome...nothing was too much trouble ..very enjoyable experience..thank you Emma

I've been to this pub twice and the staff are really good , my daughter is allergic to fish and the lady running it remembered and was very curtius too us , the food was lovely and the chef had prepared it to a high standard ,this is one of those places I don't won't to give a review to because I don't want to share where it is and it get swamped with people , I noticed the woman sat next to our table, was complaining about her food I felt like telling her I would have it if she didn't want it ,it looked amazing , the woman still ate everything and the staff where lovely to her and did everything possible to help her, with what she was complaining about , its a good pub, I will return .

We were the only people here. The staff did not know what to do about allergies when their allergy pads (2 of them) were both broken. They had to ask a manager how I could find it via their app. The food took around 30 minutes to.come out, even though it was just burgers and chips. The staff never asked how we were or how the food was until they took the plates from us a long while after we had finished eating. The bar member was more interested in what they had to do in order to close the bar as I heard them asking what jobs they had to complete.

Arrived on a Sunday lunchtime and it wasn’t particularly busy. Shown to our table but had to go back to front desk for menus. After being seated for 20mins it became clear we had to order at the bar. +50mins later the food arrived. We ordered a mixed roast which was “ok”, although absolutely swimming in thick gravy…not in a good way either! Gravy was very thick and overpoweringly salty; spoilt it really. We heard of 2 other tables complaining of similar when we were leaving. The +50min delay on food was tricky to manage with two kids under 6 - the delay was put down to “being busier than usual” (which was odd as it didn’t appear busy) and “only having two chefs” on that day. All of which is fine, but a bit of communication there may be a delay would’ve helped manage expectations. Not sure I’d rush back to be honest, there’s likely better options not too far away.

I went here with my wife in the afternoon we sat down and was asked if we wanted drinks I ordered mine the wife asked what lager there was the guy said don’t know I know nothing about lager so she went to the bar, we then gave our food order in and waited 20 minutes no starter had arrived then our main meals came out still no starter it eventually arrived as we had nearly finished the main, I then ordered crumble and ice cream after an age it finally came out with custard apparently it was that made it so long so that was sent back, finally went to pay and had my cash ready to pay sorry can’t take cash I don’t have a fob for that the girl has taken it home fortunately we had my wife’s card with us so all in all I feel I wasted £60

Greeted by a lovely smiling lady along with the rest of the staff going beyond to make sure the experience is perfect.. Lovely warm pub and fantastic with with great offers! This was the first time for me and my parents. We was only passing by and took a chance, To leave more than happy and yet to return very soon! The staff serving me particularly was Kia and sophie.. Thank you and to the rest of the staff making it a excellent service keep it up and see you soon thanks again!

Astonishingly bad customer service. Returned a flat pint of cider. Was told they the matter would be ‘investigated’. We were then updated, after sitting without a drink for ten minutes. The verdict was that there was nothing wrong with the gas, and that the pint didn’t look flat. I have had many a pint of cider, and fail to understand how it is acceptable to be accused of lying. The drink was virtually untouched, so what could I possibly have to gain by returning it. The issue was probably a dirty glass, and I asked for a fresh pint. The bar staff offered to pour the cider into another glass. 😳 I was told that I could have one but I would have to pay for it! Shocking

Pleasant atmosphere from the moment we walked in. Had booked a table but we’re a little early was no issue sat promptly. Had the trio of roasts superb needed additional gravy but that fetched promptly. Generous portion beautiful cooked and presented. 120z rump cooked to perfection

A very average pub. Drinks are average. Service is ok sometimes, great others and bad as well. The food is as you’d expect from a chain pub.

Booked a table with a specific item to be reserved, and to be contacted if this wasn’t available, on arrival, we found out they didn’t have what was specifically asked for and had not looked at the booking. Absolutely unprofessional and a waste of fuel to drive here

Wanted Cod & chips. They didn't have cod? Only Tilapia. So I had Chicken fajitas. Only can with 4 small wraps. Ultimate burger & Rainbow salad was lovely.

We love the layout of the pub and how dog friendly they are. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, and the food is always fantastic. This time we had the festive special. There was a great choice for each course and the food was delicious.

Update - I have previously written great things about this place but our last visit was a write-off. The place was virtually empty; there were one or two 'reserved' signs on tables but the rest weren't even laid out. There was no one around to seat us and the person behind the bar studiously ignored us and the growing number of people behind us. Ten minutes of waiting later I overheard someone being told that they were only taking pre-booked orders for food. So we left, as did the three other groups behind us and we all had a right old moan in the car park! Come on; some basic hospitality; a simple 'be with you in a minute' or a sign somewhere saying they were not taking walk-ins. Ten minutes of being ignored.. not happy!

Edit: 15/12/24 - New management is ruining this place. We used to always enjoy a Sunday roast here, not anymore! Today was a total shambles. Staff with attitude that clearly don't want to be there. Where has the smiley, happy, super friendly team gone? Food quality has also dropped dramatically. Roasts are now such poor quality. Such a shame as this place was great once and still could be with the right team in place. Head Office need to get a new manager in and quick! Original: Top Sunday spot! Great roast dinner (the triple roast was amazing!), superb service and super dog-friendly. Faultless!

Had a lovely experience here at the oak tree on Sunday evening. We were greeted promptly, and drinks were ordered upon being seated. Service was very friendly and not too overbearing, the food was lovely! Hot and well presented. Lovely family get together, thank you

Very clean and modern with polite staff. Unfortunately, the service was slow and the food very average at best. Fillet steak was really chewy and full of gristle. Apple crumble was more like apple muesli and it tasted like burnt oven.

Food and the staff are always first class we love coming here, if you haven’t tried it yet…why get booking

Went with friend for first Christmas lunch of the season. Served by Luke and Sian and the service was excellent and they were very attentive to our needs. Main Turkey Dinner was lukewarm and I asked for it to be reheated which was taken care of, but Turkey dinner needs to be piping hot. Food was otherwise good. I'm returning again for another festive lunch soon.

Didn't eat, had a coffee on way to Chester zoo to see the Lantern of Lights, fantastic, The Oak Tree Pub was clean, friendly, would go bk for food, staff helpful 👍

Lovely pub and staff,great good.

Generally OK, but there were some minor issues. Firstly we advised that we were using our blue light card when order the 3 course lunch offer. However when we came to pay we were advised that bluelight would be a second offer therefore not available against the lunch offer. I believe we should have been advised when ordering as we did make it very clear. We had started of chicken and the Cauliflower. The chicken strips.were very nice, real chicken not reconstituted. Cauliflower ok but clearly deep fried in fat that probably needed changing. Mains was salmon and a mini grill. Both ok except for the chips, they were clearly frozen chips but know where near the quality I would expect. I really suggest changing supplier as they were pretty pants. I was very tempted not to eat them. For dessert we both had the sticky toffee pudding. The cake was very nice and served warm. However the toffee sauce and custard were both served cold. It would have been so much better if they had both been warmed. The custard was clearly a tinned product.

Our food was delicious,the waitress Sian was chatty, extremely kind and helpfull and the chef Emma was outstanding.the best steak of our lives.highly recommended,10 out of 10. I will be back

Went on a Wednesday lunchtime after a baby class. Really welcoming and accommodating of the group of mum's with prams. Food was good though mine was a little salty. Service was quick and staff were polite and friendly.

Just left here with my wife and son. The staff were both absolutely fantastic. The lad was called Stan I think, not sure what the female was called but they're definitely a credit to the pub!! Food was great!! Even though it's a pub chain the food tasted better than any other similar establishment we've been too in the past. We can't fault the visit whatsoever!!! Thank you!!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for food with my mother-in-law and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of money has obviously been spent here giving it a facelift - adequate space between tables so you don't feel like you're sharing with people next to you Food was very good - BBQ platter I had was massive (I'm a big eater!) and really good quality. The advertised "half chicken" included was a proper half chicken - so many places will give you a measly little portion but this was the real deal. My veggie partner had a veggie kebab that she thoroughly enjoyed with my mil raving about the scampi. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Thoroughly enjoyed it and sure we will be back!

Terrible service much more better service from last time I’ve been there about a month ago when there was awful service and now a month later it got a slightly bit more better Went here on Saturday last week and the service was good but it was very slow. We ordered off the app and we struggled to get anyone’s attention because they kept ignoring us to check if we wanted our food but because no one seem like they care about their customers and in the restaurant Cause they’re taking ages making me feel like they just constantly making TikTok videos why does it take so long to bring out food in the restaurant. It’s just such bad staff management and she just need to make sure your customers got their food and just leaving and banging and not checking on your customer. It’s not fair.

Food was amazing! Bang bang cauliflower was incredible! It Staff were great as well especially Kia, Emma and Sian if I could give them 10 stars I would have. Will definitely be back and will tell everyone to visit as well. Thank you for a lovely lunch

The ambiance of the pub was warm and inviting, perfect for winding down after an exciting day. What truly made our visit special was the exceptional service we received. Our waiter, a charming young man, was not only attentive but also radiated warmth and friendliness. His sweet demeanor and engaging personality made us feel right at home. It’s not every day you encounter someone so genuinely delightful—it felt like I was being served by a charming prince! While I was a bit shy during my visit, I couldn't help but wish I had the courage to ask for his details. He truly left a lasting impression, and I would love the chance to connect again in the future. Thank you to the team at The Oak Tree Pub & Grill for a wonderful afternoon. I’ll certainly be returning soon, hopefully with the chance to express my appreciation more directly!

No roast dinner available at 2.30pm on a Sunday ??? Ordered burger and pint not informed the lager we ordered was not on the offer waited a while for both mains and desserts ( wasn't overly busy ) saying that food was ok

On Wednesday we decided to visit a family member who is ill at the countess. As this pub is close, we popped in for dinner. I ordered the fijitas which were not fresh, chicken was 100% frozen and had 0 taste to it. This was extreamly dry and rubbery and I was not able to eat any of this meal. I complained to the waiter and was not offered a refund just a brownie from the kitchen. My partner ordered the mix grill again, was not very nice for the money we paid. Since eating this meal my partner has been extremely sick with food poisoning and keeps throwing up. I would not recommend this pub, unfortunately it has had its day. The service with the complaint was not handled and the after math of our visit has been even worse.

Booked Oak Tree for a funeral wake and arranged a buffet for 35 people. The choice from the buffet menu was excellent and the food, organisation and venue were exceptional. Everybody commented how impressed they were with the presentation, variety and high quality of the food. Thank you so much 💓

We have been going to the Oak Tree at Upton on a regular basis for the past few years because it's a nice venue, the food is always enjoyable, and the chefs are always excellent. During that time, we have got to know a few of the staff and we would especially like to thank Harry for always making time to talk to us and having good, often humorous, conversations - when he's not too busy of course, thanks so much for making us feel.valued customers and we will see you again soon,

Good food staff but not 100% clean

Turned up after visiting Chester zoo, without a booking. Greeted and served throughout by Harry, who was friendly, enthusiastic, and overall a credit to the team. There was a bit of a wait for food, but when it arrived it was very good. Between us, we had the steak and ale pie, hunter's chicken, steak sandwich, fajitas and a crispy chicken burger. All meals were thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely consider a return visit if in the area again.

Left sitting for ages with dirty plates tried to order coffee & desert hut she went off to serve someone else at the bar. Obviously not enough staff so we decided to leave. Not even an apology for the fact we were not able to complete our meal. The Rainbow Grain Salad was really nice however. But service like this means I won’t be going back!

Waited for over a hour for our main meal to be served, my chicken was dry. My son’s chicken burger was greasy, husband burger was dry and greasy.

As we arrived as it was opening , we were greeted by Sian a wonderful young lady , she showed us to a table . the food we ordered was full English, it took about ten mins and the food from the kitchen and Steve the chef was amazing . The food is not what is used to be. Very very disappointing to the point i will not be returning which is sad as I am local. We ordered the ultimate bbq platter for £20.99 and only 2 chicken wings, 3 very small ribs the size of my little finger and a leg of chicken came out, we complained and was told to complain to the brewery as that's what they were told to bring out, but last year we had the same and it was absolutely massive. Very disappointing and that is the last time we will return there.

Started our day at Chester zoo by stopping off for a full English breakfast.first class service and lovely food.

We booked this meal on the spur of the moment after trying to book a couple of other local restaurants. We shouldn’t have bothered trying the others. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff could not be more accommodating. Three of us had meals that included steak and it was cooked to perfection. We will call this restaurant first next time, instead of the others.

Took my wife out for lunch 15/8 place was quiet. Took to a table. The menus on our table were wiped clean! Ordered drinks and food. Drinks came, 30 mins later we asked was there a problem and was informed they only had 1 chef was on duty. Food eventually came, cod and chips for myself with bread and butter plus mini mixed grill for my wife. The cod was small, both in length and thickness. It was coated in some sort of batter, hard underneath soft on top, bread and butter was 2 slices of sourdough about 1inch thick. The cod itself was awful fatty/oily left most of it.my wifes mixed grill appeared to have been microwaved and then put on a griddle to put some brown stripes on, not nice, waitress came and asked about the meal, we complained and she walked away and gave us no feedback. Absolute disaster, one place we will not go back to or recommend.

Came here for a Sunday roast with our friend. The service was very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. The drinks were lovely and cold and the food was served really quickly. Two of us had a kids roast and the other had the veggie wellington. We had a pig in blanket and a cauliflower cheese sides. The cauliflower cheese was almost a religious experience - absolutely fantastic!

Visited for the first time today with my family. Food and service was spot on. Sian our waitress couldn't of been more helpful! Will definitely be returning!

Had a lovely salad. My friend had the tacos. Staff were friendly.

Warmly greeted on arrival by Jacqui who immediately saw to it that we got our table booking changed when we had turned up at 4:30pm, 2 hours early, due to a change in circumstances. We were very impressed with how she handled things quickly and made us feel instantly at ease. We also loved we got seated exactly where we had hoped we would - it's like she'd read our minds. The pub has a great selection of foods. We had the Chicken Sharer platter, the Rainbow Grain Salad with Grilled Salmon, the Katsu Curry, and for dessert - because you just have to treat yourselves on the last day of a trip - to the Ultimate Cookie sharer. All food was well prepared, arrived quickly, and was very tasty. The serving staff were incredible. Whilst we were delighted with our meal, the patience and lengths they went to help meeting the demands of a neighbouring table was applaudable. The cool and calm manner they dealt with the customers was admirable. Well done team! I would highly recommend the Oak Tree Pub & Grill for it's good food and amazing customer service. Thank you Jacqui for making our last meal in Chester both delicious and memorable for all the right reasons.

This place is top draw. Emma and her team go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. The food is fantastic and they have a cracking selection of beers. Try the level head! Emma recommended it to me and it's all I drink when I come here. I'm not sure if Emma is the landlady but she should be and is a credit to the company

Good food for the price point. Real selling point is the staff. Two young lads (don’t know the names) were very attentive and polite. Always checking back to make sure everything is ok. Dined around 5pm at table 32 if that helps. Please pass on my thanks to the staff

This place is just simply amazing 🤩 lovely heart warming welcome from both Emma and Jacque every time you visit. Genuinely 10/10 outstanding 5*+ service from Emma and Jacque. Emma and Jacque embody what good customer service looks like. So friendly and are both great ambassadors for the brand. A genuine pleasure to have them looking after us. And the final cherry on the cake which makes it an all round all star choice is- it’s dog friendly!!! Finally, I cannot recommend any higher the fillet steak. Such great value for money! 💰 we absolutely love it 🥰

Friday afternoon, not busy, more than 45 minutes for food to arrive. No apology, explanation or warning about the delay when ordering. Food arrived dry and cold. I only live around the corner but I won't bring anyone here for food again.

We come here often and are never disappointed! I had the Ribeye steak medium and it was perfectly cooked 👌 Husband had the ultimate burger and said it was also delicious. Can't fault the staff, quick, polite and attentive...Thanks again for a great visit and we'll see you again soon!

We ordered two dinners and drinks. The drinks took over 10 minutes to arrive, and then approximately 20 minutes later we received our food. The steak wasn't the best quality, and it was supposed to come with baby potatoes, not normal potatoes. The service was very poor.

We went last night and whilst the pub itself was very nice, unfortunately the food was terrible. We ordered two hunters chicken, which were both served in a small pan about half filled with grease. My father had a steak pie which he referred to as a "vegetable pie" for lack of meat. This was a very disappointing experience given that I do not like writing negative reviews.

Three meals were okay but I ordered steak pie. Have now seen others found lack of meat in pie. My pie had one tiny bit of meat. It was a big pastry structure filled with a salty but not meaty gravy. I asked first who made the pie. She said their own chef made it. I told the bar manager that it was devoid of meat. She said that they make a big vat of meat stew and ladle it into the pie shells. Sometimes it's just all gravy. That was a pathetic excuse. I see others have been told another company makes the pies. My advice is to avoid the pie.

food and decor is absolutely amazing!

Appeared to be short staffed but accommodated a party of five without a booking. Service at the bar was a little slow but the food arrived promptly and was delicious and the young staff bringing the food engaged well with customers and provided a good service. Overall it was a positive visit with two tired and hungry young children.

Food nice, could have done with some meat in the pie though. I would go back but no pie next time, the burger and the steak sandwich look very good .

Probably one of the friendliest family pubs I've ever been in. The food is great and very affordable, and the staff are excellent. Definitely recommend.

Visited again and after 12 months and recieved exactly the same excelent food and service as I did 12 months ago. Had an exceptional experince. Our server was very welcoming. Was patient with our orders. I had the fish and it was possibly the best fish (lightly battered and not greasy) and tasty chips I have had, delicious.

Had lunch today with a group of colleagues from the Countess of Chester Hospital. As it was quite a large party we pre booked our order 4 days in advance. HOWEVER it took nearly an hour for our order to come out. Our order was booked for 12.00. After half an hour a member of staff came out and told us it will be another 15 minutes and that our order was the next priority. More than half of the party were not happy with the standard of the food. We will not be returning 😒 big disappointment.

The guy who sat us down was that rude and the other staff just ignored us. Felt that awkward we just left.

Absolutely superb on all accounts. Food quality, space and atmosphere, staff friendliness, and I cannot stress this enough - accessibility. Cannot wait to go back. Order the chicken fajitas!
