Hickory's Smokehouse in Cheshire West and Chester

Absolutely love it here! The food is always on point, there's plenty of sport on offer in the sports bar & Brendan the manager of that particular bar is an absolute legend! He's a great host, always easy to contact when you wish to reserve a table & the food is always good! I've eaten here more times than I care to remember over the years & will continue to do so. Nothing is ever too much trouble & it's always been a fantastic experience no matter the occasion. Whether for food or for just a passing drink I've always made a point of visiting. Looking forward to seeing the refurbished outside completed & will see you all again very soon. Keeping doing what you do Bren! 5*❤️

1st time, but not the last for sure

Gorgeous food, friendly staff and a quirky venue. We were tended to really well by James who was friendly and helpful with suggestions on where to go after we finished our meal.

last summer 2024 after a visit to chesterzoo, we were allowed to dine here. oh boy what a fantastic restaurant!! the ambiance, the service and... the food!! a michelin star may be an exaggeration, but it is still great.

Works night out in the sports bar. The food was great and all was enjoyed. The drinks where reasonable priced.

Lovely experience at Hickory’s. Xmas decorated, lovely staff, and really loved food, including seasonal crispy turkey fillet burgers and some amazing giant pretzels. Free small cinema in there.

Found the food very bland and overpriced. We had a 1yr old with us and were seated at a table next to 2 wet and very smelly dogs. We asked to move and were told that they could bot accommodate high chairs on other rooms. We could not work out why as when we looked, there was plenty of space. Place in general was not very clean and toilets reeked of urine and were in dire need of a deep clean.

Came here on Date night. Food was stunning and portions really generous, the brisket was insane! Staff really friendly, cocktails were great and the popcorn was a welcome treat while we waited for our food.

Good food as always but I was a bit disappointed by the amount of brisket in sub sandwich... Mainly bread and peppers and a little amount of meat which is the star of the dish! So needs a bit more . But I can't fault service and quality so I'll always go back

My wife and I had a great meal here. Went all out with a beef rib, brisket, frickles, breakfast sandwich, cheese and jalapeno sausage. Service was both friendly and efficient. The food was so damn good. Can't wait to go back.

In my history of eating in a restaurant I have never eaten in a shed, Hickories has always been a good chain yet this branch decided to put the over spill in a shed outside with no heating, dirty windows , leaning floor. Uncomfortable stools this has got to be the worst idea ever. Shut the place until you get planning permission

Turkey burger was okay, I asked for a nana your business milkshake which didn't come with a spoon when it should have done, common sense if you see the thing. I thought it was all an expensive loud waste of time, wouldn't go again.

Just a brilliant place to go to have a good meal by the river relaxing in a very comfortable environment, where it is spotlessly clean, it's worth a go for anybody looking for a good restaurant to eat at.

We booked here primarily because we needed a dog friendly place to eat.....it was also because we wanted some comfort food.....on arrival we were made really welcome.....the service was perfect and to top it off our dog (toy breed) was given her own small tray of brisket...which she polished off....then went into a subsequent "meat coma.....great food...service...it was exactly what we wanted

The Smoked Turkey burger was really enjoyable. Very crisp coating on the turkey fillets and a tasty sausage stuffing patty. A good amount of cranberry sauce. The sausage on top perhaps should have been a pig in blanket, but the turkey was topped with blankets instead I suppose. The jus it came with was a perfect addition, excellent flavour. I always feel the portion of tater tots is a bit small but that might just be me being greedy! The side of onion rings were fantastic. They use chunky slices of onion and the batter wasn't greasy. Staff were delightful as always. This Chester branch remains one of my favourite places to eat.

Great food, large portions. Great service. Staff friendly. Dogs allowed in their own sectioned off room. Been a few times now and would keep going.

Service after you set down slow had to aske all the time as they just kept walking past, starters were good desserts were also good but I had ribs half rack they were dry and small had a drissel of somthin on top for the price of the ribs ill go else were, other food we had steak loverly,burgers had no flavor but good size kids meals were fine, I wouldent recommend it to my friend.

Decent food. We had burgers & fries. Service was good. The restaurant was very well lit. Bit too bright bright for us. Lighting Didn't seem to match the decor.. All in all a decent place to eat (bring your sunglasses) 😎

My American spouse said the food was very authentic, haha. They also really liked the country music since you don't get much of it here, they made them feel at home ;) Staff were super friendly, cosy place to sit. Good atmosphere if you like to chat, but don't want a rowdy bar.

A warm and welcoming experience! I decided to try this restaurant on my own after my family opted to go elsewhere, and I’m so glad I did. From the moment I explained my situation, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, instantly putting me at ease. They offered excellent menu recommendations based on their personal favorites, and they were absolutely spot on. Throughout my visit, the team made sure I was comfortable, checking in regularly without being intrusive and engaging in friendly conversation. Bless them—they truly went above and beyond! As for the food, it was simply outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken wings and beef brisket, both of which were delicious. This place is a gem, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. This is a meat lovers heaven and I’m all for it!! The portions a really good plus the quality of the meat is unmatched. The ribs here are divine and definitely something to come back for with family or friends.

Located next to the river in a quiet area found this place to be ideal. The food we received was amazing and delicious, coming out really quick and efficient, even to say with the place being busy. We encountered two staff members, the first one wasn't the friendliest, you could tell she didn't want to be there, however the second one was brilliant, really friendly and nothing was a problem, she was even very apologetic when our drinks still hadn't arrived by the time our food had turned up. Overall if we are in the Chester area again we will definitely be coming back.

Spoilt by freezing conditions - inside. I had to wear my puffer jacket while eating. Warmed up at a nearby pub afterwards. In future I’d only go in summer.

We Stumbled Across This Whilst We Stayed In Chester For The Night and We Couldn't Fault It! Every Dish Had So Much Flavour and The Portions Were Such A Good Size. Came from liverpool to celebrate husbands 60th Birthday. Food was really good. When i booked i said it was a special Birthday and when seated the chalkboard was on the table. We were surrounded by 5 other tables also celebrating Birthdays. All of these tables were given a Birthday dessert with a big firework sparkler, this is a really nice touch, one of the reasons why you would choose Hickorys to make your Birthday special. However my husband didnt get this to which i am dissapointed. Everyone should be treated the same. We all pay our hard earned money.

I've just been in tonight, not for the first time, and it exceeds expectations as always. Delicious food, the cotton candy cocktail is gorgeous and I'm not usually keen on alcohol. The brisket is a triumph and the staff can't do enough for you . Outstanding x

A mixed experience. First greeter lovely and helpful. Server took a while to warm up but was very patient as we took a long time ordering. Barman a cocky boy; loved himself and was rude to my female friend. Food very mediocre. Atmosphere: sports barn. Not really for me.

First time visiting a Hickory’s and we were so impressed. The place looked amazing and the location was just stunning. We found all the staff to be very polite and friendly. Service was great. Our order was taken quickly and food and drinks served quickly too. Very efficient all round. The food was absolutely outstanding. Haven’t tasted anything close to it ever. We had the platter, two cocktails and a soft drink and it was £82. Which I don’t think is bad at all. We left totally stuffed. We will definitely return. I’m not sure about some of the other poor reviews and that is their own experience, but when we visited we didn’t find anything dirty or in need of refurbishment or below par. Would highly recommend. We can’t wait to try more on the menu!

OMG. ...what a BRILLIANT place to spend a couple of hours. .. We were made to feel like royalty. .. Amazing, attentive staff who went above and beyond to make our experience FABULOUS. .. The food was delicious and fresh. .....small booth made it private for my uncle's birthday and a special birthday doughnut arrived with sparkly candle (we didn't even request this).......complimentary popcorn on the table and THE BEST LONG ISLAND ICED TEA I've had in years. we'll definitely be returning and would 100% recommend. The maitre (heather or hannah, sorry) was do lovely as was our waitress. So much so, we left an extra top above the added service charge. Well done guys... simply wonderful.

Food was delicious but very expensive for what it is

I visited Hickory’s in Chester recently, having been to their Poynton location before. Very good may I say. Unfortunately, this experience was quite disappointing. The positives: our waitress was fantastic—friendly, polite, and attentive. Her service made us feel welcome and well looked after. The downside: one of our friends found a live slug in their lettuce. Yes, a live slug. When we brought it to the manager's attention, we were told that "sometimes these things slip the net," which was hardly reassuring. They did give us a free round of drinks as an apology, but the explanation left us wondering about their quality control. While the free drinks were appreciated, it’s hard to overlook a slug in the food. Not the experience we were expecting, and it certainly affects our impression of Hickory’s.

My friends and I recently traveled from Macclesfield, excited to experience the food and service at Hickory’s Smokehouse, having enjoyed other locations. Unfortunately, this visit was a disappointment. My meal arrived with a worm in the salad. When I brought it to the waiter’s attention, his response was a casual, “soz, these things happen,” as he took the salad but left the rest of the plate. As someone who owns multiple hospitality venues, I was shocked by this response from such a well-known brand. Throughout our visit, several staff members stopped by our table, expressing sympathy with comments like “ew” and “I feel sick now.” Despite this, we were still expected to pay in full, with no adjustments made to our bill. When I asked to speak to the manager, she offered an apology but was unwilling to rectify the situation by, for example, discounting our meals. Since fajitas typically come with salad, I could barely touch my main course, having been entirely put off. If you’re looking for a great meal and attentive service, I’d recommend skipping this location – I certainly won’t be returning.

Called in on Saturday dinnertime for a drink. Our first thoughts were 'Another, generic, American themed bar.'. How wrong were. Whilst having a beer at the bar, the guy who served us, the manager I think, offered us a taster of the slow cooked brisket. One bite and we all immediately agreed to book a table for the evening. Top decision, this place is the real deal. I would be prepared to go stay in Chester purely to revisit this place. Definitely be back.

Came to Hickory’s on Thursday for an afternoon bite. food was amazing and service was great. only downside was the attitude of the person walking us to our table. she didn’t seem like she wanted to be there and didn’t seem approachable at all. she looked me and my friend up and down and said for us to enjoy our meal. other than this, everything was amazing especially our server Alice.

Great food, fantastic flavours and a great choice of drinks, quality does come at a price and it's a busy restaurant so a reservation is nearly always a must.

Great place to celebrate a birthday

We came here for dinner. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Kayleen, in particular, was exceptional. She went out of her way to ensure that one of our party could enjoy a meal despite their food allergy. We ordered the Smokehouse Platter for two and were truly impressed by the amount of food (I would say it is more than enough for 3pp).

Not as bright and spacious as the Shrewsbury Hickory's but the food was excellent as ever.

These reviews are not accurate. We have been going to Hickories for some time but of late it has worsened. The toilets stank of urine and were dirty. That don’t happen overnight. Old food grime on our table and floor left to accumulate. The food was ‘ok’ but close your eyes and it could any fast food chain. The wooden blocks the food were served (i would hate to think whats imbedded in them). Manager needs to have a real look at the premises rather than relying on the over rated 5* reviews. It has potential but needs a massive refurb and deep clean. On a positive the staff were lovely, but only so much they can do.

The dogs enjoyed themselves so much the first time, they begged us to go back! Located next to the river, it is in a great position, and it is lovely sitting outside or inside. There is a really nice vibe and obviously amazing food! We will be back, the dogs insist as they want more brisket. The ribs, chicken, and everything we have had have all been very tasty.

We had a great meal here. The drinks were great, food was amazing & the staff were super friendly. We came on a Sunday evening & it was really busy but we only had to wait 15 minutes before we were seated, the service was quick too. Would highly recommend!

Anniversary dinner, lovely location. Beautiful decor and surrounding. We’re lovers of Hickory’s so of course the food was amazing! Great drinks to. Little issue with the bill at the end, someone else’s drink where on our bill. Quickly sorted by the manager. Enjoy our meal.

Where do I start? This is the closest thing to American BBQ that I've had from my time in England so far. The meat is all smoked the American way and has the depth that all the flavors are meant to have. The portions are way more filling than we were prepared for. Genuinely just 10/10 no complaints, if you want American/Texas BBQ in England this is the spot.

Bin a few times, will go again. It's always very busy so expect the severs to be a little rushed but when they are with you they are polite and helpful. Food is very good, not cheap but good value.

Called in here on the 11th of Oct, plan was to look at menu and maybe go for a meal on the Saturday. We found a nice booth to sit in and while my partner was getting the drinks a female staff member came over and said this table is booked(no reserve on the table) and that we can go and sit up on the stools at the bar,no apology please or thank you! Only for my partner paying for the drinks we would have left. Other staff there very pleasant except for this person. Needless to say we are not going back for a meal.

Absolutely loved our first visit, the Texas theme is wonderful and the food is amazing!

If I could rate higher I would. The food was fantastic the fajitas were to die for and they made our anniversary so special! This is by far the best steakhouse we have been to and I used to live in Texas. 11/10 stars for the friendliest and most welcoming staff. They gave us a gift for our third anniversary in the form of a “crystal” (glass) bottle which was deeply appreciated. I have a peanut allergy and they were exceptionally careful with the ingredients and walked me through every step with a tablet displaying what was safe.

We didn't have food only drinks. We were walking the Roman Walls and was happy to have a rest as we were all in our 70's & 80's. The staff were brilliant with us and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the drinks to set us on our way. Well worth a visit. We have had lots of meals at the Hickory's Poynton restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure the Chester restaurant would be of the same standard. We are considering returning to Chester in the future and will definitely have a meal at Hickory's.

Absolutely amazing food. We had a share platter so got alittle bit of everything. The atmosphere was great and there was even a mini cinema room for the kids. We asked if we could see the smokers and got a mini tour too. Highly recommend you book in advance. Visited a second time, this time at luch. Still a great place and the food was amazing. So full I won't need breakfast tomorrow.
