Lovely cocktails, great atmosphere

Dreadful experience that ruined a night out to music at Chester cathedral. Shocking poor service that saw us late to our table and after an hour we had only just had our starter. We had to leave before eating mains Would Never return to this poorly run establishment

I came here with some friends recently and the service was impeccable! Our server was called Emily and she was incredibly helpful as we made it aware to her it was our first time coming and she offered a range of different recommendations. She was absolutely lovely and just made the experience 10/10. We will definitely be coming back!

Let's start with the good: food was delicious, meat was cooked to perfection and well worth the price. Wine was also lovely. Service was generally good but could be a little better. The bad: THE MUSIC WAS HORRIBLE! We went in expecting live jazz and were violated with nasty club music. If it weren't for the deposit charge we would have left straight away. Such a shame because this place is catering to the wrong people (drunk, pre club people). Please dont ruin this lovely restaurant with such bad music!

Absolutely amazing restaurant, fabulous place to eat, first time here but won't be the last, I had Salmon Sashimi starter, Fillet Mignon Steak & Beef Dripping Chips, Wife had Duck Rolls & Caesar Salad, Daughter had, Chilli Squid & Crispy Duck Salad and a Strawberry Cheese Cake. everything about this restaurant was absolutely brilliant.

Absolutely fantastic evening on Saturday, food was fantastic, wine was lovely, service was great and entertainment was enjoyable upstairs . Would recommend for dates or special occasions, we had the steak marinated in black garlic and treacle it was lovely.

Fantastic food, great service, lovely atmosphere. Downstairs was a bit noisy but we were upstairs which was much better. Rooftop terrace but toasty warm with the heaters and they close the roof after the sun sets

Really lovely venue and service was excellent. We went for a friend’s birthday after a day at the races so obviously it was very busy, we were seated on the terrace, our waitress was lovely and kept us well informed, the wait was no issue and when the food arrived it was excellent and worth the wait. I’d definitely visit again.

We came to Opera for a light snack and drinks as two couples. The food was tasty (Asian sharer and hummus/bread) and a wide range of drinks available. Unfortunately, on a sunny busy day in Chester, we have been waiting far too long for service notwithstanding forgotten drinks order! And as for no plates being provided and having to eat from napkins… A real shame as the location and menu is very good.

I was expecting this restaurant to be a bit more upmarket than it actually was, but on arrival it was a bit chaotic which kids running around and climbing on the furniture.. not the best first impression for a dinner on a Sunday night. However the overall experience was quite nice. Food, in general, was good but we had to send one dish back as it was undercooked. Waitress was very pleasant but made a few mistakes with the order. Wine was very nice and good value and they have a fairly good selection too. Overall it was a pleasant evening. No where near as high end as I was led to believe but nice all the same. Roast beef dinner was delicious, albeit a tad overpriced.

Called in for drinks, were taken to the new roof terrace which is very well presented. Decided to eat so just ordered two Sunday lunches without looking at the menu. The food was very disappointing - meat was nice but the rest was so sparse it was unbelievable and the Yorkshire pudding tasted like balsa wood. I was shocked, therefore, to be charged £27 per meal. We challenged the cost/value and the price of one meal was taken off the bill but this seemed to upset the waiter personally so we left a frosty environment. Suggestion - with such a nice roof terrace area, why not reserve it for adults only instead of screaming babies and toddlers being allowed to climb all over the tables, as was the case yesterday

Amazing place. We booked a table for the live music and wasn’t disappointed. Great live music from Yubaba. Great food and drink. The starters, sashimi was impressive, arriving in a place of mist! Amazing steaks. Highly recommend this place.

Love the new terrace and the food is Devine ! Service premium and desserts … omg the chocolate soufflé is heavenly!!! Cocktails top to summarise … this place is must visit , must be , must try ! Strongly recommend!

Lovely venue, and attentive service but had a better burger from McDonald's at a fraction of the cost. Wouldn't recommend eating here.

My daughter reserved this place for a surprise 60th birthday for me ,had a gorgeous meal, staff were great ,place is to die for, give the opera ,the staff and the food 10/10 👍

It was a wonderful experience. The food was very deliciously prepared, the service from Mario was wonderful. My only remark is that it could be a little brighter so that the menu could be read without having to use my phone to light it myself. My overall impression is wonderful!

Really disappointing - with a bill of over £220 for 4 people was expecting good things again. Came here for Mother’s Day after being at the restaurant with a party last week - how the experiences were *VERY* different!! Food was poor - portions tiny - had the same menu both visits. No sides with the mains?! Had to order those separate and we weren’t upsold these when we were ordering? Service was poor - didn’t ask if our food was ok until after we had finished, after first drinks we ordered we weren’t asked if we wanted to order any more, we waited over 45 mins for dessert to be told that they had lost the ticket and it had to be ordered again. I really resent paying such an extortionate bill for poor food and service. Won’t be back, don’t recommend. Much better places in Chester with better service and value. An expensive mistake.

What a motherly day experience, fabulous service, especially Jemima’s who when above and beyond getting extra gravy ect , food delicious presentation, high class, atmosphere and the ambience was a great buzz for Mother’s Day. The service was exceptional.

This is a restaurant with good service. The presentation and plate look good. I cannot say the same thing about the taste.

The meal was a disappointment, only saving grace was the great band that was playing and the Sticky toffee pudding which was wonderful

We had planned a Friday day trip to Chester and after looking at various lunch options booked a table online at Opera. We need not have bothered to book as it was practically empty. The decor inside is lovely and we were warmly welcomed and seated. We were presented with the menus and asked if we had any food allergies (we were asked this three times by three different staff members), but good to be certain I suppose! After rather longer than expected we were asked if we wanted to order our drinks, we said yes and as we had waited a while we had decided on food choices so ordered our food at the same time. I ordered the salt and pepper ribs as a starter. These duly arrived and the portion was larger than I expected, I'm not sure if the menu specifically stated they were covered with tempura batter but they were very greasy and after eating two I left them. I did pount out to the waitress that they werent what i was expecting and not particularly pleasant to eat. My main was chicken caeser salad was much better. My partner had the tuna salad but sent it back as the tuna was overdone. He was asked if he wanted to order something else and he enjoyed his main when it arrived. We didn't stay for a dessert and requested the bill. When it came the returned tuna hadn't been taken off but when we pointed this out our bill was updated. All in all the staff were pleasant but a little bit disorganised and the food wasn't as great as I was expecting. Would I go back? Maybe.

Both my wife and I opted for the fillet and both were cooked to perfection It was so tender it melted in the mouth I was a little gutted to have ordered the triple cooked chips as a side as I didn't touch them, the steak and sauce were enough Would definitely recommend for that special occasion when you feel like splashing that extra bit on your someone special. What a wonderful experience. We visited to celebrate our anniversary and was looked after so well. We booked a table of 12 for Erlandos birthday, despite the late time we got treated like we are VIP and made us feel welcome and unique. 5 stars is a baseline for this amazing experience

Amazing restaurant with lovely staff! Everyone was welcoming and friendly. We had sirloin steak and grilled sea bass for main, and both items were delicious and cooked perfectly. I definitely recommend this place for a cozy night out.

We had drinks at the bar, the staff were fantastic (full of energy). The cocktails were lush!! We had 4 cocktails, they were between £11-£14 each. The atmosphere was buzzing, they had a DJ and the hustle bustle of the kitchen and dinners was fantastic. Would recommend.

Popped in opera Saturday for dinner with few mates to celebrate a reunion, and I was really impressed with the flavours, and the warm treatment we had. And specially the rounds of shots that they offered us

My son organised his girlfriend’s birthday dinner at Opera Grill in Chester this evening. Food was cold, sauce had over thickened (obviously sat for a while) and veg were burnt and flavourless. £270 bill! I’ve had better cheesecake at Tesco’s cafe as well! Awful. We all felt robbed. In contrast, we spent £260 on Christmas Eve at Miller & Carter for a similar menu and it was so worth it. Sorry for the bad review but if you’re going to charge huge sums of money for substandard food, don’t expect praise.

Our party of 10 arrived on time. The restaurant was not particularly busy but it was 29 December 24. Three guests ordered the set Sunday menu which was reasonable however everyone else including myself order from the main menu. My plate arrived and it can only be described as boiled cod and rice floating in starch water. The other dishes served were underwhelming. We waited and waited for the plates to be cleared. Finally we had to tell the staff to remove them and give us the bill. We left without a dessert. The bill was approx £500 for one course. Very little alcohol was ordered because we don’t indulge but we do like a pudding 🍮 None of us were poisoned if that’s a positive.

Good evening, thank you for a lovely evening on boxing night, booking was under Steph , was originally for 7.30pm, Mark I spoke with was very friendly and accommodating to move the reservation forward, the greeting on the way in from the male was very attentive from opening the door , host at the reception was warm and welcoming and friendly. Annie our waitress was very friendly and efficient and checked in with us . Thank you Annie. Chefs food was excellent, Cote de be ouf And starters , desserts ,bar was great service, coffee liqueur . Poor! Had to wait over an hour and a half to get food. When it turned up the food was bland, over cooked, not worth the price tag!

Food excellent, atmosphere for Sunday gospel class, waitress lovely. Couldn't give it 5 stars unfortunately because the PR/marketing team obviously doesn't communicate any promotions to the actual on floor staff, our table (been reserved 3 months prior) was given to another booking and the two ladies down stairs forgot to mention our table was ready or that the restaurant was open for seating. Properly piss poor. But everything else was excellent, however I'd say over priced of course

Arrived on time for our reservation, offered the worst table in the house or a drink at the bar while they sort out a better table. Quelle suprise the empty booth we spotted from the bar was now ours once we'd spent £25. Food was OK, sort of fusiony but enjoyable, some interesting wines but rather pricey, good interaction with senior staff, £200+ for a mid week 2 courses .mmmm I wouldn't race back.

We had our Christmas work night out here last night and it didn't disappoint. Food & atmosphere were great. We were served & looked after by Annie and her service was attentive without being intrusive, well done to her. Personally it's my first visit but I will definitely be back.

Had a work's Christmas do upstairs. Food was nice with prompt service. We had after dinner entertainment which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Could've done with more bar staff at times. All in all a great venue for corporate events.

This place is a disappointment.from the outside looks stunning however inside the staff were rude and pretentious and also felt judge no sooner I went in wasn’t very welcoming the hostess said in a very rude manner she couldn’t see our booking and then it was there was the given a card to sit at the bar till our table was ready went past our time slot so we had to go over and ask if our table was ready poor organisation was then seated upstairs then waited 20 minuntes for a staff member to come over with also 4 different staff members acknowledging the table but just ignored us and ask us for drinks and then ordered food , the staff member asked us if it was some special occasion sounded very patronising the only seemed to attend to people with money ,started arrived mine was cold in the middle then my main was just a disappointment the bread was the nicest part we then finished our meals which took them another 20 minutes to clear our table yet again staff members looking over .we then waited 30mintues for someone to come give us our bill by this point put our Coats on to see if anyone would notice us my partner ended up going up and paying at the bar, as the saying goes they judge a book by its cover hospitality appalling rude and arrogant would also like to add when complained about the over cooked steak I saw the man what looked like he was a boss rolling his eyes yet again rude .i have eaten at many high end restaurants at this is just not one of them would definitely not recommend

Our starters were okay, however mains were shockingly poor. The tuna steak was nothing more than tinned tuna, the chips were not ‘triple cooked’ as described but oven chips and my steak was charcoaled which was not edible. We tried to get the waiters attention for over 15 minutes to report my concerns with the food however were ignored, when they attended they offered to replace my steak with a fresh one however at this point the remainder of my food was cold and my friends had finished theirs. We were initially planning to have dessert however decided against this following the poor food quality. We asked for the bill which was brought promptly however after 15 minutes of waiting to pay the waiter had not returned. We then needed to attend the bar and ask to pay, where again we raised concerns about the poor service. We were rudely told ‘it’s because it’s Christmas’. I appreciate this is a busy time of year however if this is the case more staff is needed or don’t allow so many tables to be booked. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and felt this was not managed well by the waiters. I would not recommend.

Been coming here occasionally for 10yrs The dinning experience is completely different upstairs to downstairs, feels more exclusive, If I wanted to listen to club dance music then I’d go to a club or a bar, The quality of the food isn’t what it once was You get the feeling it’s more a place to go for the aesthetics than the food, beautiful looking building looks like a classy establishment but if you want to go somewhere for food then I’d suggest somewhere else, The chefs probably straight out of culinary school or maximum 2/3yrs experience if that’s what they’re serving, The main was cold so sent it back and opted for fish & chips, I’ve had better in an actual chip shop Due to the fact that’s their game. If you want a drink with nice surroundings and decent uptempo music then go here, If you want food that warrants the price you pay then go elsewhere Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stunning place, service and atmosphere.

Such an amazing couple of evenings at Opera last weekend. The food was incredible, as are the staff. Their knowledge of wine pairings to food is second to none and they make some pretty amazing cocktails too! Hats off to all staff for providing such a fabulous experience for me and my mum. Special shout out to Spike - a true expert and gent! Thank you!

We stayed over the road from here (at The Leonardo Hotel , which is excellent btw) so thought this was the ideal place to eat. The outside look is amazing and interior is well designed. The staff were fairly friendly but I got the distinct impression that they were doing us a great service by letting us eat there! My GF ordered duck breast with cauliflower cheese but was told that they had run out of cauliflower cheese ??? So she ordered carrots (£5.50) , I ordered fillet steak (but got sirloin) and triple cooked chips (that I honestly thought they were McCains oven chips!). We ordered a run of the mill Chilean sauvignon blanc . The price for this meal was £120 (and this was AFTER the 15% discount for eating there on Mondays and Tuesdays. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for a poorly cooked, poorly served dinner.

We had the Nikkei sharing platter, and it was sensational. Looked after by Clarke who was fabulous. It will be our go to place whenever in Chester.

Visited over the weekend for an early Christmas party, this is the last time I’ll ever book this restaurant. Visited in the past so was aware that the food can be hit and miss here but nonetheless this was the venue we chose. The food was appalling. For a group of around 20 people most of it went back to the kitchen untouched. I sympathise that it must be difficult with this number of people on one table however for a restaurant of this calibre it’s shocking how awful the food was. Steaks over-cooked, under-cooked. Chicken skewers also sent back untouched. They were pink and many people thought they were undercooked. It does not state on the menu they are chicken thigh which would explain the pinkness to an extent but this wasn’t explained to us until we sent them back. Food sent back for being cold. Desserts not touched as they came out 2.5 hours after our booking time at 10:15pm and everyone was fed up and wanted to leave. It’s also worth noting that the band in the gallery is far too loud. Loud enough to give you a migraine. Although they were fantastic, it would be better to tone it down a notch. The man who seemed to be the manager on shift, or potentially the head waiter couldn’t have been more helpful or understanding with our complaints and I honestly felt really sorry for him. Clearly too much pressure on the kitchen. Chefs unable to deliver and then to finish it off FOH staff dealing with a number of complaints. Bar staff were borderline rude. Waits at the bar stupidly long, which was avoidable had they not been chatting away rather than serving customers. Pints were stale and tasted like the lines needed a good clean. Coca-cola served in bottles also tasted off. Definitely not full fat regular coke as the bar man said. A waste of time and a waste of money, I would honestly deter people from visiting here in future. So many wonderful options to dine with in Chester and this is not one of them. Completely embarrassing experience. Hopefully these matters will be improved

We came here as a party of 6,we were seated close to the kitchen which was a little unlucky,but the staff were nice and efficient and the food was good, some things on the menu are at the high end, but there’s plenty of options for more reasonably priced food.All in all a great night and would definitely eat here again.

Went last night for a meal for my partners 50th birthday. Last minute booking so we were in the area near the bar. Food was absolutely amazing. Could not fault it. We were served by Lois who was new and a little nervous but was super attentive, helpful and friendly. Only downside was the DJ that was on was very loud so it was sometimes hard to hear the staff and each other when talking. The music didn’t really create the atmosphere you’d expect to match the quality of the food.

Fantastic ambiance, attentive staff and absolutely delicious steak. 2 glasses of fizz on arrival as it was our anniversary which was a nice touch. I ordered petits fours for my desert hoping for a selection of mini treats that would be beautifully presented like the rest of our meal. Instead, I got 5 cocoa dusted truffles (nice enough) just shoved into a bowl! Bit of an underwhelming finish to an otherwise brilliant experience.

Dined at Opera Bar & Grill last night. Amazing experience from start to finish. The decor in the restaurant is fantastic. The service and quality was outstanding. So much choice in the menus for food and drink. Had some lovely cocktails and a very nice bottle of Italian red. The ribeye steak that I had was probably one of the best I've eaten in recent memory, as was my fiancé's lamb. The summer dessert sharing dish was also a great touch if you can't decide what you want. Overall though, the service is what makes this restaurant visit so memorable. From the bar staff, manager, to the waitress. All were fantastic. Thanks for a great evening out. Will definitely return next time we visit Chester.

60th birthday treat from my children - absolutely lovely. Very good choice of food...I had the burger which was very tasty, my son polishing off the half I couldn't eat! My husband had the chicken skewer which he said was excellent. My daughters had chicken caeser salad and my other daughter also had the burger. My son also had the squid starter. Service excellent, food excellent - thoroughly enjoyed my experience, topped off by a complimentary little birthday cake, candle and all. Would highly recommend.

Me and my family had a lovely night at the gospel!! Georgina was amazing, so attentive and looked after us all night. From the minute we arrived we felt really comfortable and we were made to feel special. Georgina was so lovely and made sure we had everything we needed the whole way through our time there. Beautiful food and fantastic afternoon! Such lovely staff and the singers were incredible! The staff Georgina and Puria couldn’t have done enough for us, drinks on tap and so kind! Had such a good time we asked the kind staff if we could stay for the next session which they made happen for us! What a beautiful day! Would highly recommend to anyone doing the Gospel Sunday!
