Great cafe, first time having the day time menu. Great selection, I had the double chicken burger and it was delicious.

Great little find Popped in for a quick coffee… The best matcha I’ve had also ordered from the brunch menu had the mushroom and avocado on sourdough was delicious. Will be returning

Knocked out by the quality of relatively simple fare prepared so well. we had the advocado & mushroom on brown toast with a fried egg on top, while my friend had the patatas bravas with added fried egg. What made it all so scrumptious was the quality of ingredients and the added sauses, I think Miso in the case of the first dish. Service excellent, and unique atmosphere created by being in a 15th century room beautiful preserved with arched stone ceilings - I'm told it had been the Mayor's house at the time. This a hidden gem hiding in plain sight!

Went for a girly brunch with my Pilates girls… it’s such an adorable place! Beautifully presented yummy food, great coffee. We had a great time. Highly recommended for any and every occasion… I’d go there for my dates, girly meets, even family day out!

We arrived last minute on race day because of a mix up with a breakfast reservation at a different restaurant . It was 11:55 and we wanted breakfast before the races . With 13 of us we didn’t expect to be in much luck but the Arthouse was brilliant and they excepted us with 5 mins to spare . Very tasty breakfast with really good hash browns . Thank you for saving the day for ours friends celebration

Have visited the Arthouse cafe a number of times now and it never disappoints!! Food, cakes and coffee are always delicious. Setting is nice, informal and staff are always friendly. One of my go-to places in the city centre.

Visiting from the US. Lucy was so accommodating with great service and a lovely smile for everyone. The smoothies, carrot cake, scones and cinnamon rolls were amazing. The hot tea was a delight. Highly recommend!

The Art House in Chester is a true gem! This non-profit restaurant offers delicious, locally-sourced dishes in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were so excited when we found out The Arthouse (whose brunch we’ve always loved so much) was opening up on Friday and Saturday evenings for small plates and cocktails, so naturally had to go and try it out. The menu was just the right size, enough options for everyone to try something they fancy, but not too big that you feel overwhelmed by choice. We ordered the Espresso Martini and Blackberry Bramble - both were stunning! Food-wise, all of them were delicious but our absolute favourites were the Nduja Butter Prawns, the Honey-Glazed Halloumi Nuggets and the Buttermilk Fried Poussin. The staff were really friendly, and the service was brilliant - attentive but by no means in a rush to get you out. Overall we’d highly recommend an evening visit here, and can’t wait to go back and try even more of the menu!

Sat outside only had tea and coffee, so can't comment on the food. Nice inside. Tea good but coffee really poor. Recommend somewhere else for coffee drinkers.

Not child friendly menu. Food ridiculously overpiced given the burger for a child did not come with chips. You had to pay extra for beans. Children's meals in all other establishments I have eaten in provider balanced meals and feel a responsibility to ensure their food covers the major food groups. In this day and age a burger on a plate for a child, at the price they charge is ridiculous. Coke is in the smaller serving cans yet they still charge the price for a regular sized can. Extortion at it's finest. Chicken goujons were freezer rubbish that my kids didn't like as they're used to better quality, home cooked alternatives in better establishments. If you have kids, save your money and go somewhere, anywhere, else!

The tomato fritter wrap I had was superb, 10 out of 10. The menu was different to the usual offerings and all the better for it. We sat outside but the inside looked amazing. We're coming back soon and I can't wait!

The cool lighting, good vibes and general atmosphere was just amazing, such a great experience. I’d recommend this place to anybody, it’s perfect for a couples date night, dinner with your friends or even with the family, it’s just such a gorgeous location and feels there is so much history in the beautiful building! We tried out some of their small plates on the menu at the time, from mojo rump steak covered in a beautiful mint sauce, to nduja butter prawns, which were delicious! The staff were so kind, welcoming and friendly, and we generally had an all round fantastic experience here, can’t wait to come again!

Lovely caesar salad, service was OK but could have been more attentive when we first arrived.

So pleased we got to visit and have brunch. Tasty choices on the menu and plenty we can come back and choose next time. Lovely staff and very helpful as I wanted a table where I could sit with my back supported. Plenty of tables to choose from and we enjoyed looking at the art as we relaxed. We will be back with our friends and family.

2 words - pistachio latte. If you’ve not been, go just for that drink, it’s the best thing I’ve ever drunk and I genuinely think about it every day since I had one. Just incredible. Then stay for the food, I’ve only been for brunch but this is one of those places where you look at the menu and it all sounds so good you just can’t pick what to have, I had the sweetcorn fritter which comes with avocado and poached eggs, which I can’t fault, full of flavour, great portion, great quality produce. Excellent selection of cakes, coffees and other drinks, vegan and veggie options too.

If you have a dietary requirement I would not recommend eating here as it is not taken seriously at all. I have coeliac disease and asked for a gluten free bun, the food came and I then double checked with the waitress who gave me the food that it was gluten free (a different one to who took our order) which she confirmed. I then started to eat and realised the bun didn’t look or taste gluten free, so went and asked the waitress who took our order whether it was gluten free at which point she admitted she had forgotten to put the gluten free request through to the kitchen because she had got distracted by something else on our order. Really not good enough, especially for an establishment that claims they cater for dietary requirements. I will now spend my Saturday and most likely my weekend extremely unwell.

Exceptional food and great staff. The back Crypt is amazing and lovely vibe. The food quality was genuinely superb, I had the Chicken Caesar Wrap and a side of cheese covered fries with crispy onions, my wife had some kind of sweetcorn patty apparently gorgeous. Tried to go back next day but closed sadly. Would highly recommend. Feeling adventurous try the Rooibos African Sunset tea. Sublime

Excellent place to stop and rest while enjoying the delights of Chester. Beautifully laid out environment, plenty to choose from on the menu and very dog friendly too.

I recently visited The Arthouse in Chester, and I must say, the atmosphere was absolutely fabulous. The unique feature of having its own crypt added an intriguing and distinctive touch to the experience. Highly recommended for those seeking a memorable and immersive outing as well as inspiration!

What a unique place! We dined in the Crypt section, absolutely beautiful, we shared a few small plates and we're really pleased with portion sizes and presentation was a credit to them. I recommend trying the Beef Ragu ! Delicious. Great team and wonderful venue

This is our first visit and it will not be our last. Saturday brunch was truly lovely. I had Ous Catalan which I fully recommend you try. Order some bread with it to wipe up. Dee-blooming-licious. My daughter had the Japanese Soufflé Pancakes, which were light and fluffy and perfect. I also had a Dirty Chai Latte. I’d never heard of it but you have to try it. Amazing. It has espresso in it! I wish I had taken some pics but there will be another time.

Ordered 2 full breakfasts, food took ages to come and was only warm, disappointed in the amount you got and the price. Nearly £33 for two breakfasts and 2 coffees. Ridiculous price for what you get.

Delivery guy was great but the shop gave 1 item out of £30 order and then wouldn't pick up the phone had to refund

Service was quite slow, found the menu non-existent for brunch in terms of sweet options (a quick look at social media suggests they do them but they seem to be only the occasional special). Edit: the business seem to have taken issue with this review and seem to disregard it because I haven't provided enough detail. The other people I went with, who arranged the trip, also saw the photos of sweet items online and assumed it would be representative. The cafe was noisy and this was exacerbated by a lack of soft furnishings - our seats were not particularly comfortable. The food was, in a word, fine. The whole experience wasn't good, or great, it was okay - hence a three star review. Unfortunately age or size of a business doesn't affect my experience there.

Twice visited, both times excellent coffee, cinnamon syrup latte and cherry traybake. Other drinks excellent, staff helpful when asked to make the hot choc even hotter. Pneay outnoticrxtheu do a reuben sandwich which includes sauerkraut so a third visit is on the cards too

I booked the private dining area for a baby shower. The venue is beautiful, the staff couldn’t do enough, service was amazing and the food was unreal. Prior to the event there was a lot of contact between myself and the team and a menu was created for my party’s likes/dislikes and dietary requirements. The quality of the ingredients and the way the food was cooked and presented was really outstanding. It felt like a really special meal for a great set price and every member of the party was highly impressed. Thank you so much to the whole team, especially Lisa; we will definitely be back!

The ultimate brunch after a hiking holiday. Friendliest staff, cosy interiors and incredible food! Staff couldn’t do enough for us and Olive the dog, quick service and thoroughly clean everywhere. Unusual (in the best way) menu but something for everyone. Wish I lived closer so I could be a regular! Would highly recommend! Thanks guys!

Had my baby shower here, with 13 of us. Lisa and the team were amazing in giving us options for things to do, we did A4 canvas painting with some suggestions on flashcards from Lisa. The whole set up looked lovely, the staff brought us out amazing afternoon teas with sparklers in, and provided some babyshower cards, a sash and a few decorations to compliment my own. It couldn't have been better, all my guests were so impressed and the team at Arthouse were so lovely. Thank you so much!

Delicious food, very reasonably priced for Chester. Excellent service, friendly staff, even though they were very busy. Their chips are some of the best I've ever eaten. Portions are very generous. If you sit outside, be prepared; at either end of the street there seem to be fairly loud buskers.

2 stars for service, it's not attitude, it just feels understaffed for the last 3 times we've been. Yes, we love the food, it's great and the coffee is really original. But sometimes it feels like there's 3 people on all the tables and it just isn't enough.

The food was fantastic and definitely the best I've ever had from a café. Food and drink took a while to come out however it was fairly busy so it wasn't an issue for me. All of the staff were lovely. The truffle fries were the best fries I've ever had.

A really lovely establishment, with a great variety of food options. Also very nicely situated on the Chester rows or Main Street. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!

Food was good but some staff are either clueless or rude. Was left trying to get a waitresses attention for a while just to ask for a bill. Also depressing music to listen to.

Great coffee, with a choice of beans/blends and brewing method (espresso, V60 or Chemex). Good decaf coffee too. Good choice of food with plenty of vegan options, and a fantastic vegan carrot cake! Good place to work, with easy access to WiFi and plenty of plug sockets.

Called in for lunch when shopping in Chester. Lovely food (I had home cooked baked beans on sourdough toast with a fried egg), simple but very tasty. Decor added to a very relaxing hour. Definitely recommend.

Great atmosphere has been created here, very high standard of decor. The same high standard and variety of coffee offered they really know their business. The staff have a high level of customer service, and we spoke to the owner who was very enthusiastic about the business. We would definitely recommend a visit when you are in Chester.

We had lunch here today and loved every part. The vibe is so chilled and unique, the food was incredible, and coffee top notch. We have an 18 month old and there was a menu she could enjoy also. I had the Reuben which I never wanted to end. My husband had a frittata that he loved. We are definitely going back soon!

Visited for a coffee and snack yesterday, different and interesting place lots of vegan and gluten free choices which is great for us. My wife’s coffee and snack was great unfortunately my coffee wasn’t very hot and my chilli and cheese toastie was over cooked so that the cheese had melted and burnt and I was left with two slices of toast burnt on one side and just chilli on the inside. Also it was over priced. Would probably try again because often can’t get Gluten free choices.

Delicious tea, coffee and cake! Wine also on offer if that’s your bag! Service was excellent and there were some brilliant cards and art work for sale. Recommend for vegan cake in Chester!

Served by the general manager. Arrived at 13:10, no management of expectation in retrospect; left at 14:00 with 3 takeaway meals in hand (total bill £34). My first choice was not available, this was not communicated until the last minute although a customer 2 tables down was offered the news 20 mins before I was (no pastrami). No discount offered on exit despite the situation. Poor show unfortunately, as a local person it would be nice to consider more return visits

Nice cake and drinks; friendly staff, but a bit more attention to detail needed (wasn't served the tea I ordered!); 1st floor door needs an automatic closer!

Food was good, unfortunately they do t seem to read the notes on the order, asked for no avocado and no egg, only because I don’t like them, but if you have allergies this would be a major problem

Great weekday coffee and cake deal. Lots of vegan options and I can vouch personally for the cinnamon roll 😋. Staff members made me feel right at home and gave me a warm welcome to the city. A special mention to Laura - thank you for the great service and the nice natter 👍

We loved this cafe, the atmosphere was calm and relaxed, lovely art work on the walls, great service and amazing food ! I had fish goujons on bread with pea purée and salad leaves and tartar sauce - the best fish finger sandwich I’ve ever had. My friend really enjoyed her chilli cheese toastie. Staff were attentive and refilled our individual teapots with hot water. I’m definitely returning.

We visited for coffees and one of our group had the brunch muffin. Coffees were great, muffin super tasty too. But the cafe it just a lovely place to visit. List of nice bits to peruse and also a crypt at the back which has been transformed into a wonderful creative space. Great cafe.

Chester has been in much need of places like Arthouse for years - especially in that it is helping bring footfall to the historic rows. (It has outdoor seating on the main street, the bottom floor & further seating upstairs which takes you up to the rows). Lovely art shop / café, where the pieces that form the décor are all for sale. The coffee was great (they even offer free babycinnos for the little ones, which is wonderfully generous of them). I intend come back to try the food, as it looked tasty!

Fab new cafe - visited 3 times now. Great selection of coffees, teas & cakes. Also serve all day brunches. Can highly recommend fish goujon ciabatta. They have tables outside on the pedestrianised street too - great for people watching on a sunny day!!

Brand new cafe opened upstairs in Bloom and Albion on the rows. We sat outside on bridge street in the sun and it was the perfect location with great atmosphere. The food and coffee were both incredible, I had the blueberry banana pancakes which were amazing and a good level of sweetness and my husband had eggs Benedict which was also very tasty and perfectly cooked! The menu had lots of variety and everything sounded delicious, I was spoilt for choice. I will definitely be back to try more dishes! The staff were also very friendly.

Decided to try out this new spot on a friends recommendation, the food was brilliant but I do have to say our table felt completely forgotten about. We were waiting a very long time for a server and had to flag one down to alert them that we hadn't given our order. I think this was just a mishap and service will improve as they get more experience.
