The Oak at Staplow in Herefordshire, County of

It's a few months since I last visited the Oak but I'm delighted to say it's as fabulous as ever. I treated my son to lunch for his birthday ... his first visit. He loved it too. Great food and the usual impeccable service.

Warm welcome and friendly staff, Lovely food presented in a very appetising way, I always enjoy coming here for a meal as I am sure I will always be pleased with my visit.

Wonderful lunch at this pub. Staff were incredibly friendly, service was excellent and the six of us all had tasty meals at a very reasonable price. Atmosphere was excellent and the pub a real find. We’ll definitely be back.

Another wonderful experience at this lovely olde-worlde pub/hotel/restaurant. My wife and I visited for afternoon drinks and were warmly welcomed and served by Kimberley, who could not have been kinder. She is indeed a role model for all bar staff. The atmosphere was cosy and we were able to relax in the comfortable bar/lounge. Even though we live about a 20-minute drive away, we look forward to making regular visits here. Thank you for making us feel valued customers.

This used to be a great destination for foodies, always a varied menu. We haven't used the Oak for sometime now, since having lost their great chef, but saw the reviews and thought we would try again....... sorry but the meals are fairly average boring "pub grub" and we will look elsewhere for our food!!

Googled the area as a group of us were here for Sunday, this place was on top of most searched roast dinner pubs. Absolutely beautiful dinner with locally sourced ingredients and perfect cold beer on draught. Highly recommend 👌

Any pub that is full on a Monday night has got to be special. The Oak has arrived at that position from getting all the major factors right, and then maintaining them. The ambiance, the welcome, the style, the myriad attractions, the delightful staff, and a standard of cuisine that is innovative whilst meeting all tastes; no wonder it has a loyal customer base. That is management as it should be with staff who form a peerless team in all applications. The reviews from those who have just 'found' The Oak, and those who live locally prove the points. Look after those factors, and keep an eye on the furniture. Herefordshire needs you!

Proper old country pub with delightful rooms, bar and restaurant. The biggest difference is that the food is fresh, locally sourced and truly delicious. Proper chef, proper kitchen, proper service. Great choice at the bar and the rooms are really lovely. Highly recommended. Try it!!!

Whenever I visit the local area a visit to The Oak is an absolute must. This is a proper country pub with an outstanding menu (mixing pub classic with modern / Mediterranean twists). The meat selection is excellent and they offer steak nights on Thursdays. Solid drinks menu also with a good local selection. There is a good sized outdoor garden for summer evenings whilst inside is incredibly cosy on those cold Herefordshire winter nights. The team are super friendly and make you feel at home whenever you visit. If you are in the area, The Oak is a must visit. Can’t wait to be back soon.

Ok. So I live about 20 minutes from this amazing place. Any opportunity i have to book a meal here I do it . my family love it and it’s always the go to with any visitors. Heather and Chris are an absolute delight. Such warm friendly service and the food is just delicious. Never disappoints. It’s a proper country pub, not clicky. Everyone is welcoming and you can even take your pooch! If you are reading reviews debating where to go, choose the Oak ❤️

Fourth visit for us since November & it never disappoints. Even on busy Mother’s Day - service & standards were never compromised. Honestly couldn’t choose between the roast beef & Yorkshire pudding & the incredible roast lamb - so rarely seen as an offering for Sunday lunch (a welcomed surprise). The puddings were also to die for. It’s also just so wonderful to see a place where dogs are truly welcomed as part of the family rather than just accepted as a necessary inconvenience. As a result there is never any bother as they’re always truly made to feel at home in the sections where dogs are allowed. A real gem of a place & we’re always recommending it to friends & family!

Just back from a 5 night stay. Had the most wonderful time visiting many surrounding attractions. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Room was large and a king size bed. What made it perfect were the hosts and their staff. Made to feel very welcome. Food was very good. Hopefully will be returning at some time. Thank you Heather and Chris.

We booked a table for dinner before the monthly charity quiz. Excellent food with great customer service. Our group of 6 all enjoyed their meals - each was cooked with such care & quality ingredients. This really is a very special place & we look forward to returning. We didn’t disgrace ourselves in the quiz - such fun!

Had a wonderful meal here with my wife and daughter. I had the steak and kidney pie which was stuffed full of meat with a lovely crispy puff pastry top. Vegetables were nice and fresh and had to try the chips on the side , the exterior was crispy and nice and fluffy on the inside . My wife had the the pork belly which was absolutely delicious, the crackling was cooked to perfection and the apple cider gravy was full of flavour. Our daughter had the sausage and mash and completely devoured it which must mean it’s good 😊. Desserts we had raspberry pavlova, chocolate chip and banana cake with custard and our daughter had a brownie sundae which they made specifically for her which topped of the meal for us as a family. The staff were friendly and attentive which added to our enjoyable experience and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Would highly recommend and definitely will be returning again.

I've had three meals over the last couple of mths here and eventime it's been fantastic! Sunday lunch was amazing. Other visit I had fish which was beautifully cooked and very tasty Also have had duck - cooked to perfection. One visit was close to my birthday.. they brought to the table a sorbet with a candle in which was funny but a lovely touch. Staff all great. Always a lovely atmosphere!

Excellent food , lovely environment staff amazing. Came as a birthday treat with my dad , staff very accommodating despite being busy . Our waiter a youngish lad really lovely , helpful and polite . We’ve just enjoyed a really lovely Sunday lunch in this welcoming and very attractively presented country pub. The food was excellent and the staff were particularly attentive, especially the Landlord who clearly enjoys his work. Consequently The Oak Inn is an excellent choice for food, also including a wide range of beers, therefore I’d readily recommend it without reservation.

Absolutely perfect - every time. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. The amount of choice is amazing (something for everyone) and the quality of the food is always excellent. Attention to detail is great and you rarely have to ask for anything as it tends to be preempted . The prices are very fair particularly when you take the quality into account - you do tend to get what you pay for. It’s amazing to watch the kitchen in action, all very calm and organised, never had bad food or poor service here. Absolutely faultless - look no further than The Oak

Stayed here with a mate for a couple of nights while we explored the nearby Malvern Hills. We had a fantastic stay. Huge thanks to the Chris, Heather and their amazing team. First class, friendly service in the bar and restaurant from Vicki, Ben and Jack. We will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommended.

My family and I go out for meals often. This has to be up there with one of the best experiences we have ever had. They welcomed us and our dog like we were family. Every staff member was polite and helpful, and made conversation with my 11 year old son which was lovely. They made us feel very comfortable and nothing was too much. The atmosphere was warm and cosy and intimate. The food was off the charts excellent! We all went for the pie and my son had the ribs. Everyone was so impressed at the standard and commented that the food was made with love. My husband and I don't drink and they had some lovely AF options which was the icing on the cake! Talking about cake..we were so full but had to sample the puddings and the Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream was perfection. Thank you so much for having us and we will be recommending you to everyone and returning very soon.

Stayed here for a few days for a birthday break. It’s a fantastic place, the accomodation was really comfortable and spacious. The whole atmosphere of the pub is welcoming with great food ( and beer) served by friendly staff. A bonus for us was that it is dog friendly. Enjoyed it so much that booked to return later in the year for another birthday!

Hadn’t been to the Oak for a while, although it was on our radar. It really is a warm, friendly pub. The food is excellent- everything was hot and well cooked. The staff are so efficient and friendly and the service throughout was exemplary. We were enjoying our self so much and didn’t want you to leave, so extended the stay with a pot of coffee. We really do need to come more often!

Amazing attentive staff, rustic charm, private areas and unbelievable food, makes this a must. Well worth a visit and definitely a 5* pub.

What a find ,this is the second time we went,food is the standard of Top Restaurant. Staff friendly and knowledgeable of products sold ,excellent ale/ lager choices as the wines .we had B&B . A very good meal - I had lamb shank with minted gravy (really good, and so many places can't do a decent gravy), mashed potatoes and cabbage. Excellent, as was my husband's ham. Carrot cake was delicious. And we danced and sang along with Sophie Cotterell, who is very talented. It was such a good evening.

This is our second time eating here, it’s a lovely place to eat and drink. The staff are always welcoming from the minute you step through the door, they are also very knowledgable with the menus and what they have to offer. A great choice of drinks/snacks at the bar, but best of all the choice you get with the food menu. We ate in the restaurant. Our starters were brilliant, for main I went for the Game pie which I can honestly say was the best pie I’ve ever had. My wife had the lamb shank which was also fantastic, the meat fell off the bone. Deserts were a great ending to the evening, with myself going for the lemon drizzle cake and wife going for the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake, with very good table service all the way through. We had a lovely evening.

We stumbled upon this pub by chance as we were staying locally. We popped in for a drink, and decided to come back for dinner later on in the week. We booked online, which was very straightforward and were welcomed by staff and shown straight to a table in a cosy part of the pub. After a day of walking, we had big appetites and the menu did not disappoint. There were so many delicious options, but we went for the lamb shank. It was so tasty, and a very generous portion. The children had a burger (“best burger he’s ever had”) and ribs. Excellent service, delicious food and a very pleasant atmosphere.

Fantastic meal with a warm welcome. I ordered a beautiful beef bourguignon with horseradish mash, followed up with a splendid chocolate brownie - just perfect after a long autumnal day of walking. The hound was made to feel welcome (a nice change) and on a recommendation enjoyed her own doggy ice cream. The husband had a top notch steak. A definite find ❤️

If you have a dog this is the most welcoming place you will ever visit! From the moment we arrived until we left the next day it was like we were visiting friends as the atmosphere and vibe was so friendly. Add to that a fantastic menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner), a cosy village pub feel, great choice of beers then you have the perfect place to stay. There were also some fabulous field walks behind the pub which once again is perfect if you have a dog. Really can’t recommend highly enough😊
