The Norway Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We always visit The Norway Inn when we are in the area and it never lets us down. Nice surroundings, clean environment, friendly staff and super scrummy food. What more could you ask for? I had the steak and cheese toastie and my other half had the ploughman’s salad. We both argued for chip dunks in the French Onion dip that came with the toastie. Could’ve happily eaten a bowl of that by itself! Thank you for another enjoyable afternoon.

It was okay, the staff were helpful and pleasant enough. We had the carvery, which again was ok but not spectacular. £14 for a regular carvery or £17 for large. 3 meats and the usual accompanying vegetables - nice to see veggie gravy for the non meat option. I wouldn’t rush to come back but pleasant enough.

Great delicious meals on our two visits this past weekend. Friday night fish chowder and fish and chips followed by Sunday Carvery , regular size carvery was plenty. Polite and friendly staff and will definitely visit again.

Ambience good chowder was very poor, venison very rare, staff didn't ask how we wanted it. Drinks took a long time to come.

Returned today with friends and wasn't disappointed. We all had different mains from the new menu. The chowder was exceptional, the stroganoff was meaty and flavoursome, and the Thai curry delicious. Such a varied menu with plenty of choice. Attentive staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Keep doing what you do as it's very satisfying for the customer. Will be back again without a doubt.

We have been going to the Norway since the 1980’s at which time and for many years to follow it was the ‘go to’ place. The food and service was fabulous, and the dining room Sunday lunches were the best! Our visits in more recent times have been a disappointment, the fish pie is awful, and caused us upset tummies, the chicken, burger over cooked and tasted of old oil, and poor service. We waited for the dessert menu which didn’t arrive. This seasons menu is very poor, and being summer you’d think there’d be salad choices, none! This place has lost its way, the carvery used to be most evenings, with the dining room being packed. A was a true gent called Rodney who used to be the back bone of this place when it had pride, great food and a warm welcome. We will now have to find a new ‘go to’ place.

The Norway Inn was conveniently located, indeed walking distance, from our AirBnB in Perrin Mill, on the other side of the road so it was almost inevitable that we were going to pay a visit to this eatery during our four-day stay in the locale. Having been disappointed at a much 'bigger-name' restaurant, The Norway Inn came as a pleasant surprise as all the dishes we ordered were decent, without really blowing us away, fairly priced and ample in portion size. The service was friendly too.

Food took a long time from ordering but the quality was good. 7 meals with various allergy needs all catered for with understanding and care. Some meals needed a little more seasoning and the fish could have been filleted but these are minor issues compared to a good family meal in a great setting.

What happened? What happened to the lovely pub where family & friends could meet up have a lovely meal, with the smiles from the staff - where is the best waiter ever Rodney gone, why has it turned into a yuppie over charging restaurant with staff so scruffy, no welcome, food which left the pallet feeling awlful. No salads on the menu, no basic Home comfort food, no offer of a pudding. The menu was boring and expensive for what you get and bland. The chef has absolutely no idea how to dish up a good wholesome meal and the staff need urgent attention to detail. This used to be the place to eat now it’s a place for the yuppy up country people who have no idea of good old fashion food - we will not be returning and we’ve been going there for years. Bring back the good old Norway Inn As now it’s just a pub we. Would never recommend.

Liked · The rooms were clean, nicely decorated and the beds were v.comfortable. Functional and clean bathrooms - with heated/steam free mirrors - always a nice touch. The bedroom anciliary double-gazing worked well to significantly reduce the passing traffic noise to the front (since property is right on the A39). The included breakfast was tasty. This is a friendly, cosy and clean Pub in an ideal location for both Truro and Falmouth (being roughly midway). We had the Sunday Carvery and thought that this was tasty and reasonable value for money. Although we did experience some issues, we would likely consider staying again. Our summary would be that it's a good venue that has the potential to be great, with some further attention to basic details (like: functional bedroom heating & more joined-up bar service). Disliked · The in-room heating (appeared to be wall mounted electric oil-filled radiators) could NOT be made to function in either of our rooms AT ALL - giving the appearance of being past their best, with illegible small LED control panels - for which there were no instructions supplied. This was faulted-out to the staff on our first evening (of a 3 night stay) and, although we were informed that "the manager will come out tomorrow" - these were NEVER successfully remedied whilst we were there. We were provided with a small portable oil-filled radiator, which served our purposes OK - but suggest that, once frosts and 'proper' Winter sets in, the inability to heat bedrooms effectively will very likely prove to be an issue for future guests(!) Although the staff were generally very friendly, there was an occasion on one of the evenings, when a drinks/snack order was placed with the passing staff member - and after a 10 mins plus wait (were thinking just how long does it take to pour 2x drinks and grab a bag of snacks?) - the same staff member was chased, only to receive the reply: "The receipt machine is broken, so the order didn't go through..." - SO... have a backup system, then maybe?!!! (possibly we'd still be waiting?) Another observation was that many of the staff appeared to be very young and had the air of being rather inexperienced... but then we guess that everyone has to learn somehow.

We ordered the fish n chips, mussels and lasagne. The fish and chips were a big portion and very nice. The lasagne was smaller than a children's portion, with no side salad or anything. My husband complained and was told by the bar staff that lasagned is very expensive to produce, hence the small portion. Apart from mince and pasta sheets, what makes it so expensive? And it cost £16. He had to have more to eat when we got home. I had the mussels. A huge bowlful and very delicious with chips and garlic bread. Very tasty but sadly I was very sick in the car on the way home. As they were all I had eaten, it must have been the mussels and a very quick reaction. Sadly with that and the tiny lasagne, we will not be returning.

Absolutely brilliant burgers and Lasagne. Chocolate brownie to die for. Had 2 Staff are brilliant and really helpful. Pub owners should give the girls a pay rise. So good we came back for breakfast the following day. ( hours drive)

Visited for lunch. Met by friendly staff and seated at a sticky table. Ordered fish and chips and a sandwich. Chips tasted re-heated but fish was nice. Ham sandwich for £9 was a bit disappointing as could have done with some coleslaw or more of a salad with it. Was all generally OK but I wouldn't hurry back. Toilets really overdue a good refurbishment and clean. Made me wonder what the state of the kitchen was like! In summary, average and on a par with Brewers Fayre but not at Brewers prices.

Stayed for one night on 1st October and the accommodation did not meet expectations. The bedroom felt dated and the bathroom certainly needs updating with modern fixtures. The breakfast included in the room rate was nice with a good choice.

Another Fantastic stay at the Norway, Our room was lovely very clean and comftable, the food was great especially reccomend The Fish and Chips and home made pie &mash. We live locally and have driven past many times so decided to treat ourselves to Sunday lunch. Firstly congratulations to the staff lovely, helpful people and there seemed to be plenty of them as well which makes a nice change from other places. The carvery was very nice and very filling (although I'm not a great fan of carveries. even more so since the pandemic) There are alternatives but we wanted a roast. Its obviously a vey popular place as it was absolutely rammed with people and very noisy. To be honest too noisy for us, but that's just personal choice. We asked to sit by a window which we were but unfortunately it was by the front door which had streams of people coming in so we asked to be moved which kindly the staff accommodated but we were then sat in a very dark area as that was all they had available. If you like carvery then this is very good and the staff are lovely and very attentive. We may try again but at a quieter time of the day/week whenever that might be!

Very mixed comments from us The moules were excellent and burger was fine but it was definitely not a chicken supreme !! The chicken was on the bone with crispy skin and no sauce at all The potatoes were dry, no cheese or garlic evident and the shallots were so undercooked they were difficult to cut up ! Can safely say compared to six months ago, wow what a difference now!! The best turkey and beef I’ve tasted for years, veg was lovely too, value for money and already booked again this Sunday , professional and welcoming staff too . Thank goodness the Norway is bk to its best, we love good food and we went home with full bellies and happy and can’t wait till this Sunday 😀

Great tasting carvery small portions of meat and not worth the money I’m afraid. Service friendly but in this day and age the cost and value is a must .

We stayed at the Norway Inn for a few days. Exceptional service from all the staff, meals were excellent and very substantial.

Met up with dear friends for an anniversary meal having checked this place out online. We were shown to our table and served drinks and menus by the young server. I asked what the specials were and told there were none and as it was only half seven I was surprised. We ordered from the bar menu two ham, egg and chips. The ham was nice but not a great portion, two solid eggs Nd a small amount of underdone chips, very dissapointing. One portion of lasagne with green leaves which was ok. One fish and chips with overfried fish, hard underdone chips and cold mushy peas mot impressed. The table was not cleared for ages and a drinks reorder took ages. We then had to hunt a staff member down to take dessert order which were lovely. Staff need training as to actually ask how the food is. Also when saying they will return to clear table to remember to actually do that. Not a memorable night sad to say and won't be reccomending this establishment.
