The room was very small, although clean. The shower was freezing cold, the tv so small I could barely watch it although spent most of the time switching it back on as it kept turning off. The place appeared unstaffed in the morning and when we attended for breakfast we were made to feel an inconvenience because we were the only patrons that day and the chef had to come in just for us. The breakfast though hot was tasteless and more about presentation than filling you up. I complained via email as no staff to talk to re: the shower and tv and to date have had no response. Do not go here it’s not worth the £95 + £25 dog surcharge.

This place is brilliant great drinks the best in area good atmosphere however the only gripe I have is it is owned by the brewery which is next door yet the prices have gone up dramatically from just a year ago not justified at all as I know other breweries like for eg bradfield who haven't put there prices up no where near as much think greed may have had a part to play hear no wonder more an more pubs are closing an quite empty it is so much cheaper now to drink at home

I cannot praise The Nook enough and would highly recommend it for any function you may be having. I booked The Nook for my husband's wake and asked for a hot and cold buffet. The food was fantastic, not just the ordinary run of the mill buffet, great quality and more than enough for our guests. The service was excellent and Caitlin and Holly looked after us really well, making sure everything was exactly what we had asked for.

Been regular customers for years but it is now closing earlier and employing inexperienced staff and losing trade. Now off the main pub route around Holmfirth for socialising and if it isn’t open late then there isn’t any reason to go to a dated pub with the worst loos in West Yorkshire. It can’t trade on its reputation as a Holmfirth institution for much longer without investment. I know that lockdowns affected pub trade hugely and that the owners have invested in another pub, but we really don’t want to see this much loved pub in Holmfirth decline any further.

Called in with family for the chaps to sample some craft beers and good they were. The ladies just fancied a nice coffee. Quite a wait, the two small cups appeared - half empty, no milk or hot water. The coffee was absolutely awful and we returned the same. We said if that was the coffee, we had no option but to have tea. I walked into the bar to hear the barman who brought us the coffee stating to a colleague ‘we’ll, that was out of the f***king coffee machine!’ NOT professional at all. I enquired if they had any other coffee to find we could have a latte, ordered the same as no tea had arrived to be told a further payment would be required. I declined to pay. Some 5 minutes later he came to say the tea order remained unless we paid. I declined to pay again. 5 mins later they poured hot water onto a tea bag and served the same!! If you want anything other than beer, go elsewhere. We went on to Beattie’s and the service, food and coffee were all fabulous.

This pub is a true ‘wet led’ real ale establishment and represents the best of real ale and traditional Yorkshire hospitality. Tucked away down a cobbled side alley in the centre of Holmfirth, this brew pub has a range of real ales ranging from IPA and blonde through to stouts. With tiled floors, high backed wooden settles and subdued lighting, it is what a proper ‘beer pub’ should be. We did not eat there, but I understand food is served at various times and also accommodation is available. This is most certainly a drinkers and locals pub, although we were made to feel welcome. A Good Beer Guide entry for the town and definitely worth a visit or two!

Went for here for lunch after a small walk round Holmfirth, we rang up and booked in advance as us and our friends were taking two babies to make sure they had high chairs for us which we were advised they did and they were very helpful on the phone however we need not have bothered as it was dead. We got there and were taken to the ‘restaurant’ that was clearly undergoing refurbishment and wasn’t big enough to really fit us four adults and two babies never mind anyone else. We asked for the high chairs, one of which was in pieces behind a curtain next to our table which my husband had to put together and was filthy and the second one the staff had to go hunting down and looked like it hadn’t seen the light of day since the 1960s and again was filthy and had no straps. The high chairs were not wiped down by staff or even offered to be wipe down ( as parents we carry a lot of things but anti-bac wipes are not my main concern and expect high chairs for children to be clean!) so we had to use baby wipes. I ordered the filled Yorkshire pudding which was the size of a small aunt Bessie bought from the supermarket , to be fair it was filled with meat but it was tasteless but that would be becuase it couldn’t really tasted due to the awful thick salty gravy similar to that bought from a bargain shop. I ate the food becuase I was starving and quite frankly wanted to leave as soon as possible. My husband had the fish platter which seemed to have been bulk frozen in blocks. Our friends had the burger but didn’t seem overly impressed and left a fair amount. At the end we asked for the bill and staff asked how the meals were and I just had to be honest and say it wasn’t enjoyable to which the lady said she was sorry and not much else, we also advised the high chairs would need cleaning before using again as we had to do it ourselves. My husband went to change our baby to which we discovered there was no baby changing facilities as it had broken but couldn’t seem to find any evidence one even ever existed so had to change the baby on a toilet seat in the men’s with glass on the floor. As a group we all felt the same that we would not have gone there knowing there were no facilities for children- not saying that all pubs should cater fully for children , each to their own - but it would have just been best advised when we booked the table about the extent of the refurbishment and the lack of changing and seating so we could have gone elsewhere.

Just one thing however.... it's bloody freezing! Yes the staff are kept busy pulling pints and warming up but take a look around and you will notice everyone well wrapped up. We visited The Nook twice over a weekend stay in the area, once on a Thursday teatime and once on a Saturday afternoon, both with our two dogs. The Thursday (24/08/2017) visit was brilliant, with a really knowledgeable young man behind the bar who was passionate about the beer and very friendly. The ale, which was brewed on site was excellent. The clientele on the Thursday was wide and varied, with locals as well as visitors to the area, all getting along swimmingly, having a great laugh listening to some good sounds on the jukebox. We only nipped in for one drink, but stayed for a few hours. The visit on the Saturday (26/08/2017) was dire. This was all down to the really miserable bloke behind the bar, who had all the charisma of a wet kipper. No welcome, please or thank you.In fact he clearly upset one lady who had come in that much, she upped and left. This was apparently down to the fact that this bloke does not like dogs, which is probably why he was so ignorant with us.Such a shame, we had one drink and left, not willing to put up with his rudeness. The sad thing is the locals said he was like this all the time.

My dish was a filled Yorkshire pudding. The pudding itself was very poor but the filling 'beef chilli'was good. Kate had a vegetarian dish of cooked vegetables which essentially she enjoyed but there were some strange flavours and spices... The bread that accompanied her dish was very dry and lacking in flavour. The ambiance of the setting was very good...

A unique pub remembering what pubs were like serves real ale from its own brewery and everyone I can recommend always kept and served well. I love this place full of atmosphere and a proper pub with no pretensions at all

We popped into the Nook for a drink to get out of the rain and weren't planning on stopping and eating. We were sat next to a big menu on a blackboard, it had some delicious sounding food on it so we ended up ordering lunch. It did take a while to be served, there was just one guy running about like a headless chicken, as we were waiting he'd disappear for minutes on end either to change a barrel or nip to the kitchen then come back and just carry on without a word to anyone. I ordered a veggie burger and a few minutes later the bar man came over to me and said they had run out of veggie burgers but the could do something with some Linda McCartney sausages they had in, I like Linda McCartney sausage so was fine with that, although I did ask if it would come with all the trimmings that the veggie burger had and I was told yes. 40 minutes later our food arrived and mine looked lovely - the veggie burger replaced with the sausages (as I was expecting) and there were a couple of hash browns in the bun with it. I was looking forward to tucking in but noticed that there were no sundried tomatoes, fried onions or mozzerella as were on the menu for the original burger I'd ordered, I mentioned it to the bar man who took it back to the kitchen, I was expecting them to add the missing bits or just put them on the side....... they threw the entire thing in the bin to start again with a veggie burger they had now found - what a waste of food! When I asked why they'd done that when I was more than happy with what had been delivered, i hadn't complained I'd just asked for the extras bits that should have been on, the barman just shrugged! Fifteen minutes later (when my friend had almost finished her burger) my new meal came out. Both mine and my friends food was tasty, huge portions and very filling so I do recommend coming here for food, it's just the customer service that is a bit lacking and I still can't get over them wasting a perfectly good plate of food for no reason.

I was visiting the Nook with friends as they had recommended the place. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was 1/3 full. There was a lovely selection of beer and the ones we chose were lovely. Clear and fresh. The barman was a bit slapdash but he had probably been on a long busy shift. We also ordered food. Sunday roast dinners. Beef. They came out sporadically and were mostly wolfed down but they were far too hot in place to be eaten, and cool in others. Sure sign of a cold plated meal in the microwave. The place was dog friendly and was soon filling up. For round three of the drinks, the tired bar chappie had retired and two cheerful bouncy lads took over. The weather was nice so we sat outside we're there are a couple of tables. I'd definitely go there again, but for a drink. If you liked my review please click below. Thanks

The nook brew their own beer which is of a good quality, however I'm afraid this is where the positives end for this pub. The decor of the pub is shabby and it is inhabited by drunkards. The Taphouse located next door is owned by the same people and is more upmarket with the advantage of the home brewed beer offering a menu with more variety. However they do not allow dogs. The only reason I would go into the nook would be to sample the beer if you are a dog owner.

The place needs some TLC, could have been more inviting and clean. Otherwise, home brewed ales are the most delicious! The river bubbling by The Nook adds charm to the place.

Just had to call again whilst in the area, still the same traditional pub, hope it never changes, The food was excellent as always, and great portions, There is a fantastic range of homemade beers, the Oak Stout is my favourite. The chap on the bar was very friendly and always has time for the customers, Yorkshire Burger washed down with real ales, you just can't get better.

The nook is by far the best pub in holmfirth. The staff are always brilliant, the vibe is great and the burgers are the best burgers I've ever had (also very good value for money). The beer is always really good (i tend to drink the guiness or the poretti lager) and reasonably priced. There is a pool table and a duke box and a nice area around the back which is used for live performances and the beer festival, which is always brilliant.

The heartbeat of Holmfirth. Little changed in decades, and a welcoming sight to the returning exiled native. Fine beer and good craic, always.

I guess a pub is pub! I was out with friends in Holmfirth and we came across The Nook. You might call this a traditional pub in every sense. Few beers to choose from but limited on lagers. No Fosters or Carling, just Carlsberg. For me though the pub was a tad scruffy. Perhaps that's me being a little pompous??? Sadly, will not be going back.

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.

The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!
