The Nook in Cheltenham

Lovely menu and great food and wine. This was my third visit, I try and go each time I’m in Cheltenham. Disappointingly the service was really slow this time. It wouldn’t put me off going back though

We were there for our 30th wedding anniversary. From the bottle of gorgeous champagne, which we drank outside on a warm evening, to the delicious meal and very friendly and helpful staff, everything was perfect. Specially thanks to Issy who couldn’t have been more charming. Love the decor and ambience. A gem in Cheltenham! Well done Ed!

THe setting was superb, and the views were great. A great city that the dinner was spoilt by appalling service. Serve from the left, clear from the right was not applied. Reaching across diners seemed normal! One white wine was served at room temperature, not chilled. The restaurant solution was to add ice! Of four diners, two were served and only after a delay did the others meals appear. What a waste!

This restaurant definitely has the wow factor when you walk in here. We went for breakfast and received a very warm welcome. Our server was very friendly, chatting and very accommodating of our requests. I had the pancakes, unfortunately can’t say they were the best I’d had. But everything else made up for it. The weather wasn’t kind to us but amazing outside seated terrace available. Quite pricey, so definitely a treat place. Breakfast for 4, £90.

Having read the reviews my friends and I were keen to try this restaurant. I was really impressed by the warm welcome on arrival, through to the setting, interior and the quality of the food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I am sad to say that our family experience was not a good one. We were met by a lovely greeting, but once sat down service was slow but when we did get service they were lovely. We had a cream tea, it was a bit of a let down, the cakes were tasteless, the scones were salty and also one of type of sandwiches was so bland, the cheese & pickle was pickle with a little cheese. The restaurant was clean and comfortable with very pleased decor. We did pay service charge because it was already on the bill but if it had not been we would not have paid it. We would not go again

We had a great meal with really delicious food, served politely and efficiently by friendly staff. The view from the restaurant is exceptional and I really am looking forward to returning very soon.

Great location if you want a drink, and only a drink, with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Sadly and regrettably as many other reviews have said, it is an utter disappointment. I have no idea who owns / "runs" this establishment but they are either incompetent or could not care less. We were there on Sunday for breakfast, having booked in advance, with my newly married daughter, her husband and family members. Around 10 of us. As the lift doors opened there was a table of at least 20 ladies for a baby shower, 2 or 3 other tables with couples. We sat down and of course the "service" was non existent. There were 2 waiters for a total of perhaps 40 customers. I cannot imagine the ladies for the baby shower had not pre-booked. We had as we had to send our orders a couple of days prior. The waiter came with menus, he had no idea. The so-called manager whom I had sought could not have organised getting out of a paper bag. We left and went to another establishment. This was my third time eating at the Nook. The first, some months ago, was also poor because of the food. The second, also for a breakfast was OK. We go from time to time for a drink because of the lovely location. One of the barmen acknowledges us, the reception lady never does and nor does the restaurant manager with whom we had had a 30mn very friendly discussion the first time we had gone to dinner and who had acknowledged there had been some problems with our food. Forget the views I will not return.

We had the most delicious lunch here.. really excellent food in a comfortable and light restaurant. The staff were so nice, helpful and polite. will definitely be coming back very soon!

My husband, daughter and I went for a Sunday roast and were extremely impressed. I had roast chicken and my husband and daughter had the beef. The gravy was rich and full of flavor and so were the veg. I’ve been to the Nook twice before with friends and love the aesthetics and view so wanted my husband and daughter to see it. Usually when we go out for Sunday lunch, we have our meal and leave but we could have sat there all day! Yes service is a bit slow but it didn’t matter to us. Other reviews mention high drinks prices, I have to disagree as I don’t think drinks were expensive. We’ll definitely be back!

About half way through our experience me and my partner concluded it must not be a real resturant. Yes there's tables, cutlery, a bar and menus but no one gets any food. Very odd experience. We attended for valentines day as part of our last night out together before our child is born and it was completely ruined by this incompetent establishment. All fine on arrival, coats taken and water offered. We then waited a while to be seen by any staff for a drinks and food order, we gave them benefit of the doubt as it was a busy night. Our starters also came out fine and we thought everything was well. But, it wasn't. We entered the resturant dead on 7pm and by 8.45pm has still not been severed our main. When we looked around no one else was eating either, there was the rare time some food was being brought out but it would he lucky if you were the one to win the meal lottery. By this point I was absolutely starving to the point where I was in psychical pain and felt hot and faint. Originally we planned to have dessert but knew if the main hadn't been served by this point any dessert and faffing about with bill at the end was going to take us well into the night. We ended up asking for the bill and explained we had waited so long for our mains we just want to go home now as its almost 9pm and we haven't eaten anything. That was no issue and they didnt even look phased, maybe its a regular occurrence here? had to pay £36 for 2 starters and 2 drinks also with a £3 odd service charge, for what service I have no clue. No apology from anyone even considering we walked past the host and our server on the way out, he actually said enjoy the rest of your evening. As if this place hadn't ruined it already and now we had to drive home and order takeaway past 9pm when I'm 8 months pregnant. This place is completely about aesthetic and booze only, don't bother it's part of that new Cheltenham scene which doesn't focus on quality or service. We've never had such bad service in our lives, there are so many lovely restaurants in Cheltenham with amazing staff, food and atmosphere spend your money there instead!

Very disappointing, been previously and had a wonderful time & experience , unfortunately we got ignored for 45minutes after the main course- needless to say we were far from impressed.

Drinks expensive - but we had a 2 x course lunch. Smoked Haddock starter ws lovely and we all had rump steak mains - deliciously cooked. Went for dinner with my friends to celebrate a birthday. Fabulous Food, honestly faultless so I do not understand the negativity? Phenomenal food, drinks and service. They have an Old Fashioned Menu which is awesome. The venison was super tasty and their vegetable sides were moreish. The best thing about our dinner was that we got there at 7pm and did not leave until our tables until 10:30pm. What an experience!

Really mixed feelings following a birthday lunch at this restaurant. The decor and views over Cheltenham’s roof tops, parks and countryside are really pleasant, and the food was generally of a good standard, but… … the service was really very slow, the wrong starter first came out so that meant another wait for our order, then the main courses must have taken at least half an hour. It wasn’t crazy busy in the restaurant, so it’s hard to fathom why… Staff seemed disorganised and for the amounts charged I’d have expected a far higher standard of service and efficiency. Left feeling rather disappointed that it wasn’t perfect.

We were at the Nook for a pre-theatre lunch. Looking at the reviews, we were not sure how good the place would be. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table next to the window with wonderful views over Cheltenham. So far, so good. Next drinks. We had sparkling water and a couple of cocktails. The price seemed fine considering this was a high-end establishment. I would not say overpriced at all, and the drinks were delicious. We ordered lunch, where the selection could be more varied, but we found starters and mains which appealed. Again, the prices were fine for such a venue. Both courses were very tasty, well presented and generous. We had coffees just to enjoy the atmosphere a little more before leaving for the theatre. I'm not sure why people complain of prices because you can see these online. If they are too expensive, they why book? In my opinion, I think this is good value, because I have seen more expensive menus in some very ordinary pubs. The service was attentive and professional, including taking care of my wife's intolerances. I could not agree about rude or slow service. We never saw it. I can't fault this place for a special occasion or a lunch with colleagues. A more varied menu would be my only wish, but I know this does change from time to time. Otherwise, we look forward to returning.

We booked for our joint birthdays and were given complimentary glasses of Prosecco and a window table. The weather was awful but the potential for a lovely view was obvious. Staff were attentive and friendly and we were not rushed. The menu is small which we are happy with small but well done is best. We both started with scallops and sourdough bread, one of us had bream which had a crispy skin, well sauced and served with potato terrine and hispi cabbage, the other had the beef done two ways, cooked rare and beautifully soft. We drank a d’arenberg red wine which was delicious Definitely would return.

Amazing decor, service and food. Seb our waiter was fabulous. Also the lady serving our wine was lovely. Mains and starters for all of us were amazing. Puddings were not as good. The piano guy was awesome and made our night playing our requests. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great night!

This place is a must. Best food we have had in Cheltenham. We went on a special music night and it was great. Top quality food, service and entertainment. .
