The Moon Under Water in Cheltenham

We had a great lunch here on Monday. The food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Today we had a completely opposite experience. The member of staff who served us was rude and unhelpful. The drinks orders were wrong and the food was cold.

A great place to have a pint or a coffee. Staff could be a bit more cheerful it would brighten the place up.

Rough atmosphere. Spitting, smoking, swearing - and that is inside 😬. No one seems to care, such a shame as great food and drink.

Cheap and cheerful! Friendly staff and still very good prices with an excellent choice of beers and spirits. Toilets always clean with outdoor seating at the front and the back. One of the nicer spoons I have been in and close to the centre of town

What you expect for a wetherspoons. App is a good bonus. Staff are a little brunt. Still friendly dependant on the situation.

The team at Moon Under the Water were absolutely wonderful. So friendly. I got to know everyone on a first name basis. The main man Murray was a fellow Aussie, he's the man in charge. And don't forget to say hello to Ian, Sally and Callum, who may work in the background as cleaners, but are a very friendly crew. Also Kiera and Brooke I had breakfast there every morning for 3 weeks. So affordable and delicious. 5 stars all round. Miss you guys already

It's a spoons so it's pretty much the same as any other, but it's a good size, with some good outside spaces at the front and back! The one notable difference to other wetherspoons is the toilets are actually on the ground floor!

Dreadful Guinness, useless service. Have to keep asking the staff to finish your Guinness 5+ minutes after they started it.. the pipes must be dirty... then they question if you've paid for it because they can't remember who's pont it was. Very badly run wetherspoons

One of the best places I have ever been. Would highly recommend to everyone if they are looking to have fun.

Came here a couple times over the weekend. Good music and drinks. One of the better wetherspoons I've been to.

Called in for a late lunch. Friendly, helpful staff. Food was hot and served quickly. Decent, not overpriced food with free refills of hot drinks.

I always use the App at this place, service can be a bit slow but the staff can be up against it a busy times at the weekend. Can't complain about the food, reasonably priced and always good quality. Drinks are cheap and a nice area at the back of the pub to sit outside by a stream, looking over Sandford Park.

First visit for my friend and I. Loved the back of pub garden area. Overlooks a river too. Nice! Hadn't realized the hotel we booked was literally through the alley opposite. Result. LOVE a Spns. Then left Cheltenham to stay in a Spns Hotel in Weston Super Mare 👍🏽

Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of seated areas. Refreshments very reasonable prices and likewise with food. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely eat their again.

In the main, a solid reliable Spoons pub. The smoking area at the back is lovely and the food served briskly by friendly staff. I like it there, but sometimes don't feel 100 percent safe, as a lone traveller.

They were really friendly all until the manager turned away my friend because of her service dog being an emotional support service dog. Despite them being fine with the same dog in the afternoon. We had to leave our group and miss a farewell meal. Terrible behaviour. Such a shame as they were so good to us all week.

Pretty grim. Carpets sticky, music too loud. Very cheap booze though.

Place has changed so much, best wine at amazing prices, free refills on tea coffee chocolate, girls on bar were lovely, garden are was nice with umbrellas overlooking pond, spot on!!

Manager was unbelievably rude and unprofessional, turned away my service dog on the grounds of it being for mental health reasons rather than physical reasons. Obviously the manager doesn’t care for dogs or mental health conditions. Avoid. A shame because the other staff seem nice.

Great place to go whenever, like after work or for pre-night out drinks.

Veggie breakfasts were of better standard than the average Spoons.

A fairly large and welcoming Wetherspoons which was busy when we arrived. Duly ordered drinks and food from the table and sat waiting for them to arrive. It was only at this point a large screen was rolled down from the ceiling, the TV was switched over to women's rugby, and things became a tad unbearable - the sound was so loud! Luckily this meant a few people left as no one seemed particularly interested in watching it anyway. Luckily the food arrived, and we quickly relocated to a quieter area to enjoy the meal. It's the usual Spoons food and drinks and the staff all seemed pleasant and attentive. Would definitely recommend but will bear in mind that if sports are on, sit at the back!

Drinks are great, don't come in on a week day unless you want to be surrounded by middle aged men. The food is not great in my experience. I got the "cheesy garlic bread" and can say there was neither cheese nor garlic on that bread. Overall, come in for the drinks and just the drinks

The best weatherspoons bogs in Cheltenham 😅 and thats a good plus point and probably the only weatherspoons where it doesnt take a 20mile hike to go for a piss lol.

I&my gang enjoyed meal,staff were very friendly and patient..you are rally welcome for disable but if you can make bigger toilet room for disable,,will be great.just say! Totally 5 star..perfect place to go..thank you.xx

Could do with a good clean; food awful chips were not cooked. Some unsavoury people in there; one man decided it was OK to put dirty glasses on my table. I got him to move then & then proceeded to intimidate me. Not a place for a woman to go on their own.

You know what you're getting. Small Full English, perfectly cooked fried egg, no stringy gelatinous egg white left but was perfectly runny. Excellent service, friendly staff. It was relaxing and comfortable enough to stay for an hour or two and chit chat over coffee

We all know that Weatherspoons are hit or miss but this was a big miss for breakfast. Warm at best and not too presented that well, no one ask if it was ok but the staff were busy but not good this one.

This is by far the most unique spoons I've been to, typically Wetherspoons establishments focus on food service, a calming environment, and minimal entertainment, but this spoon's defies this concept by installing a dancefloor and DJ booth which plays live music throughout the establishment, it's fun, it's exciting, and it's unique.

Ageing decor screaming for a redecorating . Food is average. Quite popular among patrons of a diverse age groups.

Nice pub with plenty of room and great staff. Beer festival was on and the prices were reasonable.

Food good and cheap but the staff are the most miserable people you can meet if they don’t want to be there get a job where you don’t have to speak to people. Wetherspoons think there being clever when you ask for a pint of coke they bin told to fill the pint with ice if you take the ice out its only a quarter of a pint of coke and the ice make it look like you got pint of coke so ask for no ice because your paying for pint of water really and if you watch them pour it your see its water and a little bit of coke coming out the pump then they fill it with ice just trying to save people of getting ripped off and they got a big area at the back for smokers but everybody smokes out the front so if you don’t smoke you gotta breathe people smoking before you even get into the pub

Its a typical Weatherspoons. Its huge and very noisy inside. The food is hit and miss depending on your order. Some is quite tasty and some pathetic. The drinks choice is amazing as usual and soooo cheap. Ordered on the app and the service was really fast, so no reason to go to the bar.

Really clean, really peaceful atmosphere, diligent and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about their beer products. But of course no music at all. A bit further away from the town centre than the other Spoons, but worth the extra two minute walk.

What more can I say, its a wetherspooons in Cheltenham. Cheap drinks especially in a town where drinks are expensive.

As with any wetherspoons it was everything you want, clean food tasty and no waiting and the app makes it so easy

Tends to be quite full of students on the weekends, but the service is still quick. Just make sure you arrive before the crowd if you need a seat

This was a fantastic pub for drinking, with a fancy counter well organized by the lovely staff! The pub has the benefit of live music and a disco scene, decorations are pretty all over in general. I enjoyed a Raspberry Ale pint, sitting comfortable and also getting in the groove!

Had absolutely no warning in advance that a club night was happening until the music became so unbearably loud it was impossible to think, let alone hold any kind of conversation! However when I've been back it's been a pretty standard spoons experience outside of that.

The business model clearly works - decent, well-priced beers & reasonably priced pub-grub.

My friend suffered a medical emergency in the this pub tonight. Staff acted absolutely fantastic and professional. Apologies to all the customers that had to leave or turned away due to this medical situation but I feel that the staff, especially Fion (hope I’ve spelt it right), you were all fantastic xx

old Wetherspoons good priced food and drink, could do with a makeover, quite a nice outside area at the back overlooking a park and river, one of my favourite places in Cheltenham

It's a Wetherspoons, interesting buildings, good unlimited coffee and great value standard food, what's not to like, plus great ale selection cheapest drink in town

Great service even during the busy periods you can see the staff working very hard. Always come here with my family when I’m out in town , we always come in a for quick drink and a bite to eat.. the prices here are great for what you are receiving, never had a bad experience here will always come again

Having read a lot of negative reviews I felt I should try to balance the picture. Being a bit older my friends and I do not often go to Wetherspoons later in the evening. We do go earlier, usually before the monthly comedy club at the Playhouse across the road. That is often a Thursday so we take advantage of the Curry Club offer making it even cheaper than usual. For under a tenner you get a delicious curry plus rice naan and a couple of poppadoms. The food is brilliant. Plus you get a pint or other alcoholic drink. Even on other days you get all this for about £11! The staff are efficient and friendly. The pub is ok if not luxurious and generally clean. What on earth do people expect for their money?! It is fast food of the highest order in my view at ridiculously low prices. Like I said I cannot comment on whether the place and the clientele deteriorates as the night goes on but we love it earlier in the evening.

Had to wait for someone to attend to us at the till as no one was there.We only waited not too long till our food arrived.The food is just fine as you expect of cooked breakfast.

A banging spoons on Saturday in Cheltenham. Decent atmosphere complete with DJ. Although it's probably not one to go to if you want a quiet pint on a Saturday eve!

Good value afternoon food deals. Busy but efficient staff.

As a group of 8 we wanted a quick bite to eat after our trip to the Cheltenham Playhouse so this was great location wise. Not too busy on a Sunday (4:30 p.m.) and we were served drinks quickly when ordering at the bar. Good menu selection and catered for vegan/gluten free choices. Ordered food via the app, which is easy. Waited longer than usual for food to be delivered but we put this down to the number of us in our group. Everyone's food arrived tepid, as if it had been standing for 10mins before bringing out. Burgers were good, 10oz gammon, chicken curry and pie too. The bbq chicken melt was way overcooked, dry and difficult to cut into. Onion rings weren't crispy, but a 'soggy warm' texture as if they'd been microwaved and left for 10 mins. Spicy chicken wings were forgotten but got there in the end. Not a great food experience, but I guess you get what you expect from a Spoons. Tips: Ensure food is hot when serving it. Check that everyone has the correct order when serving it and ask if there's anything missing. Missed opportunity for selling on - when staff see that food is finished, could offer more drinks/desserts, especially when pub isn't busy.

Well if you like drinking in a cow shed full of angry people and cold food then this is for you. The toilets are the just like train spotting and as for the music, take your own or just don’t waste your time going at all STAY AWAY

I have always felt welcome coming into this pub good food, good atmosphere, I usually enjoy evenings out with a large group of friends but last night not so good I felt like the door staff had a problem with me from the off set and as I was enjoying my drinks one was constantly staring at me i felt very intimidated. I also noticed the fact they were staring at women walking in like they were pieces of meat not somewhere I would want my daughter to drink on a weekend. I would be the first to apologise if I had upset this particular door member but I felt the problem was there from the offset. I have never previously had a problem with your door staff and I'm hoping this was a one off otherwise we will take our custom else where. Would appreciate it if someone could look in to this for me many thanks Mr Johnson.
