Since going back in to the new union with the new owner it’s such a fantastic atmosphere and venue is clean and smells so nice going in to venue the staff is so polite and everyone is welcoming the toilets could still be done with updated toilets but other than that they are clean and tidy

Really dirty place was empty so no excuse for sticky tables don't think the toilet had been cleaned this year.

Called in the New Union today with a couple of friends. David the manager made us very welcome. It was clean and the San Miguel was excellent (although a little pricey at £4.75 a pint)! Would recomend it and will be calling in again.

I come here every time I'm in Wakefield as I know I'm guaranteed to get a pint with a friendly chat from both the owner and the many regulars. From the random amazing events to the chilled out indie quiet nights, it's always a good vibe.

The New Union is a unique venue in Wakefield. It is very supportive of the LBQT community and has a really great vibe about it. There's regular shows throughout the night and the Pride weekend was sensational. Bar staff really on the ball, professional, very friendly and drinks reasonable priced. Mixed clientele and it all works. Keep up the good work.

Terrible service terrible beer can tell the lines are not cleaned as often as they should be, bar staff and manager I believe very rude and unprofessional and unhygienic could smell the body odour bad breath and a smell of faeces from the manager, also clothed not ironed and hanging from his bottom were you could see all, the pub itself looks and smells like it hasn’t been cleaned for years! Drug bags all over the toilets both mens and ladies which is horrible to see, the toilets are also vile and look and smell like they have never been cleaned, children running wild all over the pub until all hours! All in all a very bad experience.

This place is amazing with the right group, go there to have a safe fun time and you won't be disappointed, A rare refuge for lgbtq+ people

Great bar, great service, great bar staff very polite karaoke nights on Fridays and djs on Saturdays. Drag nights and other events are very entertaining.

Great night. The quiz night on Thursday night is friendly and fun.

Admittedly I came during the late afternoon so it was very quiet on a weekday. I've been coming here since it was the slug and lettuce. The service was friendly, helpful and informative even though I had to ask for service. Quite impressed by the stage area which I'm assuming must be quite entertaining when they have events on. I just felt the physical place looked a bit tired and need of a refurb. The lager didn't taste brilliant unfortunately. Hence the 3 star rating because I wanted to give more because the staff, once I talked to them,were really good.

It would not hurt to clean up the toilet a little, but in general - a great place!

I have visited The New Union several times during the week And weekends day and night. As I drink Alcohol rarely, I'm always welcomed for a coffee and chat. David and Staff are very welcoming and pleasant as are the regulars, Always someone to chat with. Clean and tidy Outside and In, plus shelter in the beer garden for Smoker's. Good access for wheelchair users and plenty of comfortable seating. Excellent acts and Karaoke plus quiz nights.

The venue is super welcoming, both the manager and crowd are wonderful, but the furniture really needs updating, the sofas are collapsing in on themselves, and none of the tables match

Love the bar and the people in it. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and there's usually something going on along with a highly inclusive atmosphere. Dungeons and Dragons groups Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. Friday night Karaoke Saturday night often has cabaret There's other things on too but It's a shame the furniture is in desperate need of refurbishment, the tables have all seen better days, and mix and match look can be quite off putting at times or I'd give 5 stars every time. A lot of the seating is becoming worn out so most people simply opt to stand.

Coming here for years now. Still love the people but needs a refurbish. Tables and chairs are old. Hope they can get some new better once soon.

Well what can I say……….. I went into the new Union looking for food, but they do not serve food anymore, manager was very friendly and greeted me with a smile, excellent customer service skills, since that day I have been in many times on different days and nights, the bar area is always clean and tidy, same as the toilets but the whole pub could do with being updated as it is looking tired, I have seen the manager trying to get customers in through Facebook and other social media outlets, but this can be difficult with the outdated decor and tired looking bar. Furniture is sparse and could do with being matching. To say this is a marstons pub the Calder and hop is the same brewery and is more upto date with a vibrant colour scheme.

Kudos to the highly inclusive, atmosphere. Rainbow flags everywhere, so if you're not LGBTQ+ friendly, you're the exception to the 'all-welcome' rule! Unfortunately I can't give the same for the drinks on offer. Very 'generic' selection of lagers, a bitter, and 'the usual suspects' in the optics. That said, it was a fun place for a Hallowe'en party!

Pleasant barstaff, clean toilets (gents at least) very little atmosphere, but it was lunchtime, evening may be different. Tetleys draught beer on form. Three stars for the lack of atmosphere. I'll go again on the way home from shopping for a quick pint

We visited for wakefield pride, and loved it, however the miserable bar staff in the new union were awful, who ever is the general manager needs to train the staff on customer skills.

Brilliant pub , they welcome everybody, Fridays and Saturday nights are great , karaoke on Friday from 9 and two fabulous drag queens on from 9 on a Saturday. The people that work here aren’t just friends they are family. Theres plenty of space for you to sit and prices aren’t too bad either. Photography night every month too. Fully recommend this pub to anybody!

Regular at this venue great place and bar staff, have some good drag acts and entertainment. A place that should have more investment to reflect same standard as other modern venues I. The area.

Brilliant pub. Use this as my regular because the staff and people are so friendly and polite. Always feel welcome and comfortable. Ordered a burger from the menu and I couldn't fault it. Absoloutly beautiful. Best burger I've had in a long time. Great value for money.

Highly not recommended violent venue and staff.

Ordered two double gin and tonics costing £12.80 and was given to tiny plastic tumblers filled with ice and hardly and gin and cheap tonic. Complete rip off!

Very warm and welcoming, LGBTQ+ venue! Always has a cozy and warm atmosphere, decently priced drinks and even host drag shows every so often. Highly Recommend a visit

Nice enough pub with outside smoking area. However, the entertainment at this venue is cheap, tacky and plays to the few regulars there. Awful drag acts and mediocre DJ's - always the same cliquey faces who visit on the couple of occasions we visited. Such a shame. Wakefield Pride was an amazing event in 2019 but at this venue, the atmosphere was lacking, as was the entertainment, in particular, terrible drag acts Madam JJ and Madam Nicol. Many people moved on to better events on the day. Again a shame, as the bar staff were nice enough. Food was good. Toilets were dirty.

Went to new union today, they have grest range of drinks, friendly staff. Dinner time saturday the accomodate a roll playing group, been told they do other events. Prices arr reasonable and quite busy at weekends.

Went here for Wakefield Pride. A great fun venue, friendly staff, well worth a visit if you are in town. The night that we went there was a Cher tribute act on who was superb. The venue is large, with a smoking area in a beer garden.

Went here for Pride 2018, absolutely terrible service, was not busy, and had 5 people behind the bar, and only one row of customers. Yet it still took me over 20 minutes to get served, hardly any stock behind the bar. All i kept hearing a girl working behind the bar say was “Well I dont normally work here”! No preparation for pride at all. Wont be back!!

This place could be better , it needs a good clean outside and the interior decor let's it down.

I visited this venue for Wakefield Pride. Fun friendly bar. Large venue so not overcrowded. Good location, smoking area. Friendly staff. Popular with old, and young alike. Well worth a visit 😎

Kitchen has only been open for 2 days and I had an all day breakfast. 2 bacon, 2 sausage beans or tomatoes, mushrooms, hash brown and 2 slices of thick buttered toast. All for a fiver! Standard of service 1st class and friendly staff. I will definitely be coming back to sample more of the menu soon!

Attended a reunion here but had I known how bad the place was I wouldn't have bothered!It is FILTHY! The toilets are DISGUSTING! Blocked, no toilet paper and no LOCKS on ANY of the doors.The pub itself is dirty. Your feet stick to the floor....we were amongst the first ones in and the tables were dirty and sticky.The sound system is rubbish (as was the DJ) Can't comment on the food as I would have rather eaten my own arm than risk eating there.Avoid like the plague! I hit the rating for food by accident but it won't let me unclick. Did not eat the food

I had a burger and chips here on Saturday 21st and it was worth every penny! Everything was cooked fresh and the sald was just as if it had come out of the garden 5 mins before! A good choice of menu, well worth a visit.

This place should really shut down, very poor service and selection of drinks you stick to the floor when walking in tables scratched toilets appalling and the management simply have no respect for the customers food is below average it's a shame the place used to be booming now it's been run into the ground a bad state of affairs.

Newly painted dancefloor and lighting installed with an amazing smoke machine! Soon the toilets and the rest of the pub will be painted too! Can't wait! Back serving food! Prices are lowered , great entertainment from Connie every Saturday night, Jan George performing there once a month! It's on the up!

Under new Management in the last few months and you can tell. Cleaner, fresher and the food is excellent. Great choice of daily specials, pleasant bar staff and superb fresh home cooked food. Well worth a visit.

I heard that this bar was re opening under new management so was hopeful of a good night of entertainment. Not to be the case. Poor selection of drinks available behind the bar accompanied with the same old dirty broken down toilets. Basically it's still the same scabby cheap bar it was before. The only redeeming attribute was the pleasant door staff upon departure. Save yourself the hassle and spend your pink pound go in Leeds where it will appreciated and eye candy is better.

The food is so cheap yet sooo good. Me and my friends come here for a cheap dinner date whilst shopping in town and been here many a time for a drink. The place is chilled, it is known to be a gay bar but this isn't in your face, yes there are gay people there so if you have any problem with them then don't go. Great for a chilling session having a drink, a cheap bite to eat with lovely food and a game of pool if thats your thing.

Fuimos a nueva unión con mi novia y 2 colegas los sábados a las 9.30 pm. Era muy tranquilo con casi ningún clientes así que nos jugamos al billar. No he sido alrededor de un año pero utilizada para visitar regularmente y hemos disfrutado de muchas noches aquí. Mi principal crítica es que las damas aseos son incluso más desagradable que solían ser ( y estaban mal antes) 1 de los 3 loos estaba fuera de servicio y no había papel higiénico en cualquiera de ellos. Durante las 5 horas que estuvimos allí, tuvimos que pedir papel 4 veces!! Los inodoros no han sido limpiadas adecuadamente durante meses y no hay jabón de manos. La dirección debe tener tan poco respeto por sus clientes para permitir que ese servicio asqueroso. Mis bandejas de gato son más limpios!!! Quizá con un bar gay ha abierto en wakey y los clientes van allí ... Espero que así porque a menos que tipo de unión sus instalaciones de aseo no regresaré. Se trata de un pub que sirve comida pero no se molestó en obtener las bases justo y solo debe estar interesado en tomar dinero de sus clientes pero no se preocupa por ellos ... No las mujeres de todos modos ...

i visited the new union recently and was surprised at the lack of selection available on the menu. They call themselves a restaurant, yet all they serve is pub grub if you dont want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a 'main meal'. The staff however are very welcoming and friendly, this doesnt make up for the poor standard of 'frozen but passed off as freshly made' food that was served to us.
