I know it was a busy day but main courses came out cold and the deserts were a disaster. Christmas pudding over done to the point it was a solid lump then alternative chocolate lava was cold in the middle. Staff were great but did not make up for a poor meal.

Firstly YOU MUST register your car on the tablet inside to make sure you’re good to park in the carpark. Lots of signs stating it but thought I’d mention it too. Beautiful place! I haven’t been in many years and I think the last time I was there I was very drunk (90’s maybe?)😂 Table service, I’m not a fan of and on this particular evening with only 2 guys working/serving the bar and tables that I saw I thought it was slow but with 3 large tables of 6+ people in its to be expected I guess. The food prices I thought were a tad pricey however it came out hot and delicious so I soon forgave it. I recommend the steak and ale pie but it’s huge and not for the faint hearted. The heat was not for the fainted hearted either… it was extremely warm in there. So warm I couldn’t finish my meal and had to stand outside or go to the bathroom regularly to cool down. We asked for mustard and mayo which I unfortunately came as we were finishing our meals. So the evening had its highs and lows but I wanted to ensure that my review was as constructive as possible. I believe that 70% of the gripes we had could have been solved by having some extra staff in. Again, we visited on a Thursday evening which I’m guessing isn’t normally a busy night. Also couldn’t find prices on some of the soft drinks menu so I have no idea how much a glass of Coke was albeit it was very good Coke!

Recently stopped at a local premier Inn and luckly got a tablet here at the old mill with the family. We were warmly welcomed in and quickly seated from start to finish we were all content and truly well looked after. Service was amazing nothing to much trouble at all even kids got paper to colour etc really nice touch. Now for the food whilst it was hot and tasty also fully seasoned it didn’t match the price point it was sold at. Again we did enjoy it just lacked something at that price range however it was a great evening the 3 guys on the floor working socks off are a credit to the establishment. We will definitely be back please keep up the good work.

Amazing place, lovely people, a beautiful cosy pub and delicious food. Very dog friendly too. Be careful in the car park, you need to sign your car in on arrival or might get a £100 fine! We didn't realise straight away but did sign in so fingers crossed we didn't get a fine! Expensive lunch otherwise!

Fantastic experience here. There were 20 or so of us, staying at the nearby hotel and so happy we came here for food. An excellent menu, priced well and the service was superb! Particular mention to Ian who looked after us so well, on his own with one person in the Kitchen. Ian is a credit to this place and want to say thank you again for looking after us so well, this morning and yesterday morning too. Also on Friday night we were similarly well looked after but didn't ask our host's name that night. I can't recommend this place enough!

17.10.24 - Update to my review below and response to the reply from the Old Mill. Update. I called the Old Mill following the reply to my original review. I spoke to one of the managers (Craig). He was very pleasant and helpful. He noted the information I provided and confirmed he would get onto Britannia Parking to request a cancellation of the charges. We have now received a letter from Britannia Parking stating the charges are cancelled at the request of the Old Mill which is excellent and appreciated. Craig did promise me an email to confirm he had taken the action which unfortunately we never received. Response to the reply from the Old Mill - I was not impressed with this reply (from another manager, not Craig). My wife did take notice of the parking and on speaking to staff they accepted the responsibility to log my wife's car (witnessed at the time by other guests in the group). If that is not the normal procedure, then staff need some more training. It is interesting to note that other reviews comment on the lack of clarity with the signs. You can have as many signs as you like but if genuine customers are struggling then something is not working! This has been a stressful week but we are glad it is now sorted. Original review - My wife and her parents visited on 26 September 2024. Food was nice and atmosphere pleasant. As a family we have been several times...but NEVER again. While the evening went well a week later we were shocked to receive A £100 PENALTY PARKING CHARGE because the bar staff TOTALLY FAILED TO UPDATE THE CAR INFORMATION THAT WAS PROVIDED TO THEM. My wife even wrote the registration on a piece of paper for the bar staff as they were busy. They said they would sort it shortly...THEY NEVER DID! So now we are having to go through the process of challenging the parking fine. We have witnesses to confirm the car details were given to the bar staff, and a credit card statement proving the family had a meal that evening. So if you fancy a nice meal, in good company, and a pleasant atmosphere FOLLOWED BY A £100 PARKING FINE BECAUSE THE STAFF CANNOT DO THE ADMIN PROPERLY, come to the Old Mill. Good luck!!

Tried this place after reading reviews. Called on the way back from trip to Leeds. We really enjoyed the food and as requested got a seat in a nice corner nook which was perfect. The waiting staff was really pleasant and friendly. Lost marks on service even though super polite, had to ask twice for a coke as the message wasn't passed on from the person who brought our food out. Super apologetic which was fine. But then when ordered dessert we ordered a cake and a cappuccino. The waiter came back to confirm which hot drink I wanted. My partner cake arrived and she had ate it, but no cappuccino arrived I waited 15 minute. I asked for the Bill and mentioned no hot drink arrived. Again waiter apologised I said no problems and he said would remove from the Bill for us. Another 15 minutes passed without the Bill and the waiter caught my eyes and quickly ran to bar to get the bill. He apologised when came over for the delay. When I looked at the bill the cappuccino was still on it, so I told the waiter again apologised and ran off an got it fixed. Despite these few set backs would definitely come back again

Settle in, it’s a long one! Only rating a 2 due to the beautiful building and the one young man that served us. Upon arriving we were quite shocked that the building was quiet. We visited on a Sunday at 7:15, whilst we knew the majority of people would have visited earlier we thought it would be a lot busier after seeing the location and photos of food online. We were really looking forward to visiting and had come from Bolton so not a short journey! We ordered our food and were told that there was no roast turkey left - this was fine and we were told that they would put extra meat on the trio to make up for the unavailable meat. After a few minutes the waitress (I'm assuming manager for the way she was dressed compared to other staff) came over to say the iPad had died and could she retake our order. 25 minutes later our drinks still hadn’t arrived. I went to ask where they were to be told ‘oh he’s just making them now’ by the same waitress. I went back to my seat and she came over and asked what the drinks were (a small lie saying he was making them then) we told her our order and stated we didn’t want ice in our drinks. A young waiter came over with our drinks - all filled with ice - we commented that we asked for drinks without ice, the young waiter apologised and offered to change the drinks, we said it would be fine. I then heard the young waiter pass on to the original waitress that we’d asked for no ice and I heard her say ‘they didn’t tell me that’. A couple of minutes later she came over and said ‘sorry about the ice, I did write it on the order but the bar staff never read it’ ( another small lie) Our starters arrived and were fine, nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. Our mains arrived - the two roast dinners were lacking stuffing, when we asked, the waitress said they’d run out - she hadnt told us this when we ordered. She then went into the kitchen and came back out with some stuffing (another little lie, getting a bit repetitive these white lies now aren’t they?) the stuffing was described as sausage stuffing - it was clearly an Aunt Bessie’s stuffing slice and not sausage. The roast potatoes were clearly frozen too. I ordered the steak and ale pie, not homemade, the crust and lid were so thick that I couldn’t cut into them, my chips were oven chips. We also ordered the honey and mustard glazed chipolatas which looked microwaved and the sauce was extremely vinegary. The young waiter came to clear our plates and asked if everything was ok, I commented that I was a little disappointed and explained why, he showed empathy and apologised and said he would see what he could do. He returned and said that they could knock off the pie and the chipolatas. The waitress came over to apologise and repeated that she was going to take off the pie and chipolatas, she asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, having been so disappointed up to now we obviously declined. Upon asking for the bill the waitress knocked off another 10% from the bill. I hate writing negative reviews but we were so disappointed by this place, the waitress that served for the majority seemed completely unbothered by our dissatisfaction and the constant white lies about small things really wasn’t necessary. If you’re looking for expensive microwave food then this is your place but otherwise, I’d steer clear unless they sort the menu out, it’s a shame because the setting is perfect

Shambles. Was very disappointed here, the service was simply awful. The bar staff could not have appeared more disinterested. Had to ask several times for our drinks order, then quicker to just go to the bar and wait there as table service was non existent ( even though the pub was half empty). It's impossible to then enjoy a meal when your being served by the most inefficient and lazy staff. I'm so glad they don't work for me, and if I was the owner of this pub I would take a long hard look at it...the tables were empty on a Saturday evening, and it's clear to see why with service like this. Best avoided in my opinion.

First time we visited, just before Christmas, the food was spot on. On this recent visit it wasn't great. £19.99 for a mixed grill were everything was dry and overcooked, including the egg. Certainly not worth that price. Had a sharing platter to start, which was tasty but there was no bread to use with the dips. We asked for some and was charged £2 for 2 slices of ordinary bread - I mean - really???

A great place to eat. Friendly staff, lovely food. We went for the Tappas style meal with a mix of starters in stead of a main meal. It was ample food and very tasty, presented well and filling.

Nothing against the place. Food is lovely, service is always fine and it's clean. Just the food is never piping hot. Don't get me wrong it's fine but it always feels like it's just been sat there 10mins before they bought it out. Hotest meal we had was our daughters... the kids meals are the ones you expect to be the coolest

Fab bar nestled away near the river. Beautiful building and grounds. Especially nice around the outdoor riverside beer garden. Will definitely return!

Steak was over cooked and was tuff as old boots, chips cooked in old oil, peas nuked in microwave and we're cold and like bullets, mash tasted like instant mash from the 80's and had a load of pepper to try and disguise it, carrot crisps were cold.

We were a family of four here on Mothers day and was hoping that the 3 courses for £27 were going to be somewhat special as I ate previously here for lunch and the food was great! Unfortunately, it was average with loads of minor details missing which for us were too many. Food was either little or large portions so no consistency and not quite warm enough. Sunday lunch was ample however wasn't served with crackling as stated on menu, the Stuffing tasted old and stale and the roasted veg mushy. Belly pork came with an overly powerful sweet sauce and I have a sweet tooth but this spoilt the dish and was served 5 Potato's and a couple of Carrots just shoved on a plate. Very few chips were served with the fish with bullet hard peas and the chocolate torte was floury and wasn't served with the coconut ice cream as stated, just like the Rhubarb gin at £7 was supposed to be served with orange but was just a glass topped up with a full bottle of tonic! I feel no care and attention had gone into any of it! Waiters were lovely, however we had 3 of them serve us so we didn't know where we were and it seemed like they were rushed off their feet. Deffo more staff needed! We were also overcharged when we went to pay and if it hadn't of been questioned they wouldn't have had a clue! Came away disappointed!

I have stopped by this old mill a couple of times and it is a nice place i have to say. One issue i had was distinguishing between staff and visitors. I would recommend some sort of uniform to separate easier make them spot-able a little bit more. Food was okay. A little spicy overall. Didn’t have time to wait very long for service. I liked the drinks. Would i go back? Probably not especially for that particular place, but if i end up being around that corner of Huddersfield some day I wouldn’t mind having tea there again.

First time eating here and will definitely be back. Food was amazing. Ian who served us was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. He was very helpful. The shared starter was lovely and plenty for 2 people. We had the fish grill , cajun chicken burger , smothered chicken and the duo Korean chicken. All were served hot and fresh and delicious. The puddings were amazing too. I'd highly recommend to anyone thinking of eating here.

This place was recommended to me by a friend who knows I enjoy a good pie, the Steak and ale did not dissapoint, full of flavour and a good size portion , full pie not like some outlets who just pop a crust on top.

What a place... Went for my birthday, never had a bottomless brunch before, this being my first experience and loved it. The friendliness of staff, that 'your important to us' certainly shone through. Great choice of drinks, fabulous atmosphere, music, even karaoke. What a wonderful, friendly, homely place, highly recommended. Nothing is too much for the staff who went above and beyond making our visit unforgettable. Food is homemade and delicious. Thank you all. We will be back xx

First time we have been to the Bulls head weve usually gone to the ego in Shadwell, but this resto was lovely inside we were. attended to quickly shown our booked table and we enjoyed the steak med rare and dessert we were looking forward to a cofee but the machine had stopped working! Although we were offered another type of coffee. But declined. All in all a great place for our meal we will go again! Hope the coffee machine is working then Our Jack Russell sat nicely! Staff offered water for him.but we chose not to have any.
