A very poor experience tonight for 4 of us. No drinks available, due to a gas leak, food was very overpriced and poor quality. Borrow gas from another pub or get an emergency delivery. They said it was fixed but they have to wait till tuesday. I am not the one for complaining, but I had to go to the bar to complain about my meal as nobody checked. It was very crispy and they charged me £15.50 for it. There was music blasting out of the kitchen as we left. They brought me back a burger which wasn't a full chicken breast.Very rude when we arrived. We paid over £120 for the food, and drinks! Won't be going back again- sorry. They never cleared our plates due to the fact they new we was not happy. We was hungry when we came out.

Food very average, stone cold gravy and cold chips, not what you would expect for the price, service slow and we found out half of our tables order was not available over 10 mins after ordering

We had a fantastic meal yesterday 9/3/25 the food is always beautiful me my wife and our baby granddaughter were served by ian who has truly amazing customer service he always finds you somewhere really nice to sit in this gorgeous building we were overlooking the river. i should of left a review before because this is the fourth or fifth time we have been and ian has served us every time and his standards never slip he could teach many a business about dealing with customers we will definitely be back you truly have to try the old mill you won’t be disappointed all the staff we have dealt with are brilliant and the relaxed atmosphere and charming old building make it a lovely experience

You could not ask for a better maitre'd than yesterday. If you ring ahead, and provide additional info, such as dietary, mobility, and occasion details (parties/meetings/anniversaries), they not only listen, but take the steps to accommodate you where possible. A quality of service that can be easily forgotten on reviews, however the level of care taken to make that night go smoothly made it well worth choosing this restaurant. Thankyou. You deserved the custom.

The restaurant was outstanding, lovely people (Ian and Dan), very friendly and attentive. The building is beautiful, soft quiet music playing which added to the relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. The food was amazing, fresh and tasty (I had the cod). I was travelling alone and staying in a local hotel, I am going to return this evening for dinner🙂.

Had a lovely meal, mine was the slow cooked lamb shank which had no gluten which was really nice. Our waiter Craig looked after us really well and was very helpful and friendly.

I’ve only visited during lunch time. It’s never empty, the food is always perfect. The beer is perfect and the service is prompt and friendly. They can’t do enough for you and that’s why we go back again and again

Really enjoyed our last visit. The food was the best it's been. Dan was really attentive to our table and went the extra mile to cool our baby's milk so she could be fed quicker. Great food and drinks as always.

After having been a few times for a drink, we decided to have our valentines meal here and thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff were friendly, great service and atmosphere and beautiful food. Steak cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

The meal and the service was a amazing. There's a lovely selection of food and the chocolate fondant was to die for. And the staff have been really friendly and accommodating especially Dan. I thoroughly recommend dining here.

We came in here on a thursday at about 5pm, walked in and it was extremely quiet maybe about 8 people there at most including us, it took them 15 minutes to even ask us what we wanted for drink and didnt give us a chance to order food before leaving immediately for the drinks, took another 5 minutes for two coca colas and then another 15 to ask us what we wanted to order, coming to 35 minutes in total to let us order food, meanwhile its so quiet we can genuinely hear the staff behind the bar talking to eachother having a laugh which would be completely okay if we got to order our food but we knew what we wanted about 10 minutes before they asked us what we wanted to drink! absolutely ridiculous, we didnt even bother ordering the food and left and to top it all off the 2 cokes cost us £8.70 😨

Very good. Food reasonable. Will go again.however stuck with a 100 pound parking fine with no idea we had to enter a reg. Poor signs and not reminded by staff. Won't be going back

Gorgeous pub and delicious food

We came to The Old Mill for a date night, and we were served by Dan. We cannot fault the service. He was very attentive and we enjoyed our meal. We would recommend dining here, or just getting a drink at the bar. Great location too. We'll be back!

Great menu, good choices, value for money and friendly staff who work hard to serve customers quickly. Lots of parking and nice cosy atmosphere.

Come up from Birmingham and decided to stop off at the old mill for some food. Served by a great guy named Jamie. He made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in. He is friendly, helpful, and nothing is too much bother. Food is lovely and a beautiful environment to eat in, built in 1902.

Visited a couple of evenings between Xmas and new year, as we were staying in the Premier Inn next door. It was warm and welcoming. Dan and the other staff were all friendly and helpful. A nice pub, with decent food 👍

Came with a colleague staying at the hotel next door, they had stopped serving food but went out of their way to cook us some fish and chips each as we hadn't eaten due to the long drive....great service friendly staff, thanks to Dan who sorted food for us and was welcoming.

2 years since the death of my son, table booked for 10 people, (overlooking one of his childhood favourite places)followed by a number of friends popping in for a drink (or staying)!! We were quite loud and apologies to other diners. Thank you to the staff for the understanding and making us all feel comfortable to be together.

Always been lovely food, and sourced from around the area, and great service .The food is just a bit different from the run of the mill stuff ( no pun intended) and pay a tad more for but it’s delicious never been let down yet, only thing I would say is heating could of been turned up slightly, but was a very cold night outside

My only niggle is the portion size for the money. The fish and chips comes with a small saucer of mushy peas, not quite a dessert poon full. For 15 pounds, I want more. I deserve more! Service good though, thanks Dan.

Outstanding service and food from The Old Mill today. We were a large party having Sunday lunch for a 90th birthday and everything was great, especially the service from Dan and Jamie. Food was cracking and very quick for such a large group. We will be back!

Popped in on our way to Huddersfield, lovely little pub- great reasonably priced food and lovely country pub feel. But the reason for the 5 stars is mainly down to the staff that were on (29/12) each one was super friendly and welcoming. My nana has dementia and what I'm assuming is the manager was lovely with her, despite her memory problems she's been speaking about how wonderful he was all day! She says '5 stars, super duper gilly cooper!'

our visit today was for my wifes birthday we had the lamb shank shepherd pie followed by tripple chocolate brownie with ice cream which was outstanding our compliments to the chef, we would also like to thank dan who looked after us making our visit today a really enjoyable experience.

Duo chicken was chicken breast which was tough and a few small pieces of battered chicken that tasted more of batter than chicken.. No sauce for the rice which was hard to eat... Service by the young Scottish man was impeccable, however we were sat under some ventilation units that were blowing and making it very chilly.... Sorry, I won't be back 😔

I know it was a busy day but main courses came out cold and the deserts were a disaster. Christmas pudding over done to the point it was a solid lump then alternative chocolate lava was cold in the middle. Staff were great but did not make up for a poor meal.

We had the festive lunch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff were very friendly and provided service second to none. Food was excellent.

Food was lovely, came out quite timely despite it being busy. Dan was also very helpful and recommended some good menu options, 10/10 service.

Firstly YOU MUST register your car on the tablet inside to make sure you’re good to park in the carpark. Lots of signs stating it but thought I’d mention it too. Beautiful place! I haven’t been in many years and I think the last time I was there I was very drunk (90’s maybe?)😂 Table service, I’m not a fan of and on this particular evening with only 2 guys working/serving the bar and tables that I saw I thought it was slow but with 3 large tables of 6+ people in its to be expected I guess. The food prices I thought were a tad pricey however it came out hot and delicious so I soon forgave it. I recommend the steak and ale pie but it’s huge and not for the faint hearted. The heat was not for the fainted hearted either… it was extremely warm in there. So warm I couldn’t finish my meal and had to stand outside or go to the bathroom regularly to cool down. We asked for mustard and mayo which I unfortunately came as we were finishing our meals. So the evening had its highs and lows but I wanted to ensure that my review was as constructive as possible. I believe that 70% of the gripes we had could have been solved by having some extra staff in. Again, we visited on a Thursday evening which I’m guessing isn’t normally a busy night. Also couldn’t find prices on some of the soft drinks menu so I have no idea how much a glass of Coke was albeit it was very good Coke!

Lovely building very welcoming with open fires and friendly staff. Good selection of food on menus. My steak was cooked just as I asked for.

Booked a table for a family of 6 the Sunday carvery was ok yorkshire puddings where over cooked alot and the meal itself was aired and needed more gravy which we asked for wont be returning

Recently stopped at a local premier Inn and luckly got a tablet here at the old mill with the family. We were warmly welcomed in and quickly seated from start to finish we were all content and truly well looked after. Service was amazing nothing to much trouble at all even kids got paper to colour etc really nice touch. Now for the food whilst it was hot and tasty also fully seasoned it didn’t match the price point it was sold at. Again we did enjoy it just lacked something at that price range however it was a great evening the 3 guys on the floor working socks off are a credit to the establishment. We will definitely be back please keep up the good work.

Amazing place, lovely people, a beautiful cosy pub and delicious food. Very dog friendly too. Be careful in the car park, you need to sign your car in on arrival or might get a £100 fine! We didn't realise straight away but did sign in so fingers crossed we didn't get a fine! Expensive lunch otherwise!

Really nice pub, and friendly staff. Very efficient and nothing too much trouble, from putting extra wood on the fire from a different table as one guest was unable to walk up the stairs. The food was great, especially the beef and ale pie. Good prices too.

4 of us visited after being nearby on way home on Sunday afternoon did not book but we're very helpful and gave us a lovely table in the conservatory, very helpful staff and lovely meals had by all, will be back thank you 👍

The quality of the food on my last two visits have been very disappointing

The food was excellently prepared and was very good quality. Atmosphere wasn't great because there was hardly anyone else in there apart from our group, a shame really, they should get more customers but it's a bit out of the way.

Fantastic experience here. There were 20 or so of us, staying at the nearby hotel and so happy we came here for food. An excellent menu, priced well and the service was superb! Particular mention to Ian who looked after us so well, on his own with one person in the Kitchen. Ian is a credit to this place and want to say thank you again for looking after us so well, this morning and yesterday morning too. Also on Friday night we were similarly well looked after but didn't ask our host's name that night. I can't recommend this place enough!

17.10.24 - Update to my review below and response to the reply from the Old Mill. Update. I called the Old Mill following the reply to my original review. I spoke to one of the managers (Craig). He was very pleasant and helpful. He noted the information I provided and confirmed he would get onto Britannia Parking to request a cancellation of the charges. We have now received a letter from Britannia Parking stating the charges are cancelled at the request of the Old Mill which is excellent and appreciated. Craig did promise me an email to confirm he had taken the action which unfortunately we never received. Response to the reply from the Old Mill - I was not impressed with this reply (from another manager, not Craig). My wife did take notice of the parking and on speaking to staff they accepted the responsibility to log my wife's car (witnessed at the time by other guests in the group). If that is not the normal procedure, then staff need some more training. It is interesting to note that other reviews comment on the lack of clarity with the signs. You can have as many signs as you like but if genuine customers are struggling then something is not working! This has been a stressful week but we are glad it is now sorted. Original review - My wife and her parents visited on 26 September 2024. Food was nice and atmosphere pleasant. As a family we have been several times...but NEVER again. While the evening went well a week later we were shocked to receive A £100 PENALTY PARKING CHARGE because the bar staff TOTALLY FAILED TO UPDATE THE CAR INFORMATION THAT WAS PROVIDED TO THEM. My wife even wrote the registration on a piece of paper for the bar staff as they were busy. They said they would sort it shortly...THEY NEVER DID! So now we are having to go through the process of challenging the parking fine. We have witnesses to confirm the car details were given to the bar staff, and a credit card statement proving the family had a meal that evening. So if you fancy a nice meal, in good company, and a pleasant atmosphere FOLLOWED BY A £100 PARKING FINE BECAUSE THE STAFF CANNOT DO THE ADMIN PROPERLY, come to the Old Mill. Good luck!!

Pleasant pub for a meal. Nice setting. Good service, reasonable prices.

We were staying at the Premier Inn and went for a meal at The Old Mill. Craig greeted us and we asked for a quiet table and we were shown to a lovely table for 2 in a cosy, secluded spot. The service was excellent 👌🏾meal was very enjoyable. Craig was very attentive and despite the restaurant being fairly busy, was pleasant, efficient and helpful. We look forward to eating there again when we are next in the area.

Went to the old mill for a meal and a few drinks with the wife. 22nd November 24. I wouldn't ever go again . The food was terrible . Under cooked. Had to send it back to have it to be re cooked. The waitress was extremely rude. Very welcoming when we walked in and made are order. But when the order came and the food wasn't fully cooked we complained we was made to feel very unwelcome. Do yourself a favour give it a serve if you dont want to be treated like a 3rd class citizen.

Great place to eat except just got parking ticket for £100, always parked in same place over quite a few years, never been asked to register cars number before

I went with my wife for a lunch date and was pleasantly surprised. Ian the host was friendly and attentive and he sat us in the cosy snug area for a little more privacy. I had the steak sandwich which came with fries and salad - the steak was cooked to perfection and came with a delicious gravy to dip. My wife had the cheese toastie which was fabulous by all accounts. It was my first visit to the Old Mill, on my wife's recommendation and I will definitely be visiting again!

Absolutely awful! It took half an hour before anyone came to take our order and when the food finally did arrive, I had to send mine back because it was just warm. Nobody came to check in on us to see if everything was OK so I had to go in search of a member of staff just to send the food back to be warmed up. We're staying next door in the Premier Inn and have already paid for breakfast for the next 3 mornings. I hope it's a better experience. 🤞
