The food has changed from traditional food your gammon and chips, fish and chips etc to trying to compare with bao buns at the Riverhead, sorry no contest. The pub smells of wet dogs particularly around the fire and the sofas and been bitten there. Not in a rush to go back .

Came in on Mother’s Day, the Mother’s Day menu was that good it was hard to chose what to order. We had the duck spring rolls, Thai beef noodle salad for starters. For mains we had the chicken and the ox cheek. Very tasty and plenty on the plate our eyes were bigger then our bellies and we had to take the rest home. Compliments to the new chef!! Amazing food and atmosphere.

We had a meal at the New Inn 17th February 2024 after we had heard the menu had changed and a new Chef had started… WOW! Lots of new choices with the classic pub favourites… I had the shoulder of Lamb and it was amazing… The pub was busy and had a nice relaxing atmosphere and we were able to enjoy our meal in a relaxed comfortable environment having a few drinks to wash down the enjoyable food… I recommend this pub/restaurant…

Appalling customer service. Stayed here one week ago. My booking document clearly state that I have agreed to pay £75 for a room and have opted to pay £14 for two breakfasts. When I paid at the accommodation I asked about the breakfast and was told there wasn't any. I then asked for a £14 refund. The two members of staff working at the bar were very unhelpful, clearly did not have any idea of customer service and told me thier manager was away and they could not issue a refund without their permission. I followed this up 3 hrs later and the incompetent staff members still were not able to do anything. I was promised that the next morning when I left somebody would be there to issue me a refund. The next morning, a third member of staff called Kevin told me he also wasn't able to issue me with a refund and told me to email the manager. It is now one week on. I have emailed twice and had no response. Do not stay here, the customer service is dreadful and the staff are simply not up to the job. I paid for bed and breakfast but this was not delivered. Totally unacceptable. Unbelievable that the management have not been bothered to email back in over a week!!!!

Great place. Went with 10 friends, dogs and kids. They were absolutely great, we did a pre order as it was a larger group, food came out quickly and was delicious. They had good baby changing facilities and high chairs, dog water bowls and spacious areas to sit so you're not worrying about when to fit your dog when they're lying down. Drinks and food reasonably priced too. Would recommend.

We called here for the first time today after walking up from Slaithwaite. Lovely pub, friendly staff and a good selection of genuine whole cooked food.We had gammon steak and chips which came with lots of trimmings, and despite having decent appetites we both grudgingly had to leave a few of the twice cooked chips. Make sure you're hungry. The Sunday Lunches looked amazing and again were very generous size portions. We will definitely be making a point of a return visit.

Firstly, food options were great. Loved seeing the amount British classics. Reasonably priced. Portions were ample - I’m quite a fast eater yet took me 25 mins to finish it! Lovely environment too. Friendly locals, not too noisy, lots of (well trained) dogs inside too. The only major downfall was that the food took so long to arrive. There were only one other table eating yet took 45+ mins to receive the food. I appreciate it was home cooked so takes a little longer however seemed like we were waiting very long - especially as there was only two of us and we only ordered two mains in total. Altogether good experience. I would recommend and perhaps visit again, however I’d be very cautious about the staggering wait times. Especially if it is reasonably busy - pretty certain you’d be waiting at least an hour. There were not many staff and we visited at the weekend.

Friendly welcome from Geri and her efficient team (including the lovely pub dogs). The New Inn is a favourite with both locals and visitors to Marsden village, on busy days it’s a nice refuge from the popular (deservedly) Riverhead. Lots of comfortable seating both inside and out, real fire on cooler days, cosy decor. Very dog friendly! We weren’t intending to eat on Sunday evening but the ambience was great and after a few drinks we were tempted by the plates coming out the kitchen. The Sunday Roasts are well loved by regulars and looked great but we opted for fish, chips and mushy peas and my favourite cheese n onion pie, chips and mushy peas. Portions were huge and the food tasted homemade top notch! Great value and served with smiles all round. A great village pub!

We called here by chance as our usual eating place in Marsden was closing early, and we’re so pleased that we did. We had a lovely table outside in the sunshine and our order for food and drinks was taken quickly by a friendly waitress. Our drinks came straight away and food about 15 minutes later. The food was superb. Fresh, hot and tasty. Couldn’t fault it. Our daughter even said it was the best pizza she’d ever had! My husband and I had burgers and they were delicious. I went inside the pub to use the facilities and everything was spotlessly clean and all covid measures adhered to. We will definitely return. Brilliant pub.

Firstly the food was delicious and the portion size was very generous, unfortunately that is where the compliments end. They was 8 of us, we all had starters and a main course and most of us wanted a pudding too however they was no service to be found after having our main course delivered. One of us approached the bar to ask for service and he was told we would be seen to in 5 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes we decided to as for the bill instead of desert as we was by now fed up of waiting. Worst yet is the lack of cleanliness! In our group of 8 was a 1 year old baby who found 4 lumps of chewing gum which of course ended up in his mouth! So in a nut shell we paid a combined price of £130 to come out worried sick of what the person who left the gum under the table could have had!

Wow, not only was the food plentiful and tasty but the staff were friendly and approachable. I visited with a friend who had the bbq chicken/bacon.burger, which when arrived made me wish I'd ordered it, that was until my fish n chips, with double cooked chips and mushy peas arrived. I was not disappointed, the chips were chunky, crispy and fluffy on the inside and the fish was flaky and tasty. I went during the Eat out to Help out period so the price was very cheap but I would have no hesitation on returning when back to normal.

Well what else can I say? it may as well be Ian Beale writing this review. Like many of you we were recommended to go here with claims stating it’s the best food in the area. Well the Sunday roast may be good but we wouldn’t know because on arrival we were informed that there were no Yorkshire puddings left? I was half expecting to be told that they had run out of Brussel sprouts or carrots which I would have been content with, but no Yorkshire puddings? That’s like going turkey and not having a kebab. So reluctantly we went instead for the fish, chips and mushy peas, only to be told there were no mushy peas left either. At this point we were desperate so opted for fish chips gravy and baked beans. Unfortunately when it arrived they weren’t chips they were small fries with runny gravy and a fish that was bigger than my future. massively let down and the vibe was abit like after you’ve been your grandmas funeral and you’re sat in a weird pub with loads of old folk who you don’t know but they remember you from when you were a kid and keep telling you how much you’ve grown. Wouldn’t recommend.

I took friends and family here who were visiting from across the border(South Yorkshire), we booked a table as there were 8 adults and 3 children. We were seated quickly and the staff were accommodating and friendly. We asked if the kids meals could be brought out first as they were ravenous after a mornings easter egg hunting. They both opted for fish and chips and wolfed it down. It's nice to see a pub that has smaller versions of the adult meals rather than your bog standard nutrient deficient nuggets, fish finger and the like. Our food arrived shortly after, I also had fish and chips, there is an option for smaller versions of some of the meals which for me is great. The bill in total for food came to about £90, which I thought was more than reasonable. Will definitely eat here again.

A group of us went for a meal Saturday evening. The menu was nothing like the one on the website. We were told they'd run out of white fish (at 5.15pm!). Those who had salmon didn't have a cooked veg option (some of us had peas) - it said "salad" but it was only a garnish (leaves, no tomatoes) and some potatoes with the small piece of salmon and they were left feeling hungry. The basic food we got was overpriced for what it was. A poor dessert menu. Hot drinks afterwards some of the cups were dirty and had to be sent back (also some saucers). My tea was lukewarm. My friend who asked for hot milk didn't get it. The waitress was pleasant but perhaps a bit outfaced. She got my change wrong (but corrected it). Overall a very disappointing experience and we wouldn't go again.

After a lovely wintery walk around the area it was lunch time. A warm up, a pint and a sandwich was what we were looking for in a dog friendly pub and we thought we had found it here. The pub has 2 fire places, one with comfy seats the other in a small dinning area and the whole pub is broken up into different rooms making it feel cosy. When we arrived at 1330 on a Saturday there were 8 people in total in the pub. Some eating and some not. We chose our seats and the waitress came over to take our drinks order, nice touch as we were happy to order at the bar. No note pad she remembered the 4 drinks, 2 pints of the same, 1 coke and 1 tea. Drinks delivered I asked what the daily hot meat was (hot meat sandwich) which she did not know and went to find out. At that point I was not going to order as I imagine if the waitress does not know its not that special. It was mid Jan and it was turkey !! I ordered hot roast beef and gravy sandwich, with a panini, cheese and tomato sandwich and pulled pork sandwich also ordered. Again the same waitress had not note pad so this time the order was written on her hand. She questioned the order of the cheese and tomato sandwich panini being changed to a brown bread sandwich even though the menu states you can change the bread. Talking and catching up made the time go quick and suddenly we realised we had been waiting 45 minutes for 4 sandwiches, no the pub had not suddenly filled up. 3 arrived with me being told the hot beef was on its way, it was and arrived 8 minutes later when the others were 1/2 way through there's. Presentation for the hot beef was poor but I did have a free addition to my meal - string! All in all this seems like it should be / could be a good pub but with the wait when they were so empty and the quality of some of the dishes if I was local (glad I am not) I would not go back. Plus side they did give a reduction to the bill when we queried where were the vine tomoatoes with the cheese and tomato sandwich to be told one chef called in sick. Maybe he is the only one who knows what a vine tomato is.

They made us a lovely meal, and the chef really went out of his way to make a vegan meal as we had requested, and they were on the ball with the allergies as well. The desert was especially tasty, a gooey chocolate cake that any specialised vegan baker would be proud to serve.

If you are looking for somewhere unfriendly & unwelcoming you've come to the right place! If you're not from the local area, stay away, you won't even be allowed a table. Simple. Staff need serious training on customer service. Try "I'm really sorry, we're quite busy at the moment." It sounds a lot better than "No," when someone asks for a table...Don't think we'll be back.

Visited here last weekend with family and really enjoyed it. The drink selection and food menu are good. Between us we ordered fish and chips which was delicious and huge, steak sizzler which again was huge and very tasty and a burger which was homemade and lovely. All food was cooked well, the staff were very friendly and atmosphere was relaxing. Well worth a visit!

This is the second time we have had a booking here the staff are great the food is great BUT.they really have to work on getting food to the table quicker one hour before we had starter then a long wait before main came.I have been told they have only a small kitchen well do something about it or you will lose customers? And like I said your food is great but people will not wait you need to reduce your number of covers to suit maybe it's a shame because I will not be coming back until I here it's improved.

Visited midweek for lunch. The place wasn't busy but it took over 2 hours for mains and puddings from their lunchtime menu. I raised the delays with the waitress but she wasn't interested. Food below average, service shocking.

Dined here with 4 friends who had dined here the previous week. The service was extremely slow (only 6 other people here besides us!) and the 2nd dining area was closed - so not over busy!I think the pate was shop bought - not made on the premises(?) - but it was ok. Large portion.I had the 'bolster moor sausage' with mash and onion gravy. The sausages tasted like they had been boiled and the onion gravy was sadly lacking in onions and quantity. (Mash is very dry on it's own!)When one of the dishes arrived with chips instead of salad, the waiter said out friend had not ordered salad - yet this was the dish she had enjoyed the week before! Our friends, having recommended this place, couldn't believe how poor it was compared to their recent visit.Perhaps it was a one off bad night - but we won't be rushing back!

After doing a lovely walk around Black Moss and Butterley reservoir we called in at The New Inn for Sunday Dinner. The Staff were really friendly and the food was really good. I can also recommend the sticky toffee pudding, two course for £11.95 bargain!

Visited on a Saturday evening in July 2014, having had several excellent meals here in the past. The service was good, but the food was terrible. Thai fish cakes which were black on the outside, a rock hard chunk of bread, and belly pork which was consisted entirely of fat. My partner sent back the belly pork and ordered fish and chips as a replacement, which was reasonable.

We had a meal at the New Inn the other week with a few friends from the South. The staff were pleasant and very friendly, the service was good but the food was just average pub grub.I had the garlic bread, which was homemade to be fair, but extremely dry. The bread was of good quality, and they would have been better off offering a selection of bruschetta instead. To follow, I had the small fish and chips, which was okay. The fish was fresh, however the batter was quite heavy. The chips were done the way I like them: brown on the outside, pale on the inside. The New Inn is definitely a fail safe place for a decent meal. If you like pub grub at fair prices, this is the place for you. (I personally believe that that I expect more than 'okay' when I go out to eat.)

We first visited this restaurant in November 2012 on the evening before daughter's wedding and were highly impressed by the food, service and ambience. We visited again on August 10th 2014 with as a small family group but this time with new 3 week old granddaughter. The atmosphere was relaxing, welcoming and the food excellent. Wide choice of menu, good beers.Daughter was most impressed with the baby changing facilities!Another plus is that food is served all day at weekends and bank holidays and the full menu is offered on Sundays in addition to the usual Sunday roast.

I like this pub. Its quite attractive inside, spacious, and the staff are all very friendly. It's a little way out of the beer swilling area of Marsden and none the worse for that, but the beer is good [I'm told!]. There is a varied menu and the food is good. The steak and ale pie, a proper pie not stew with a puff pastry crust, was much enjoyed. The bar is dog friendly.

Popped into the New Inn last Sunday for lunch and a drink. The food was at the usual high standard and the portions were very generous. They have modified the presentation slightly with the vegetables on a separate platter and now the plate isn't over-facing. We had the cheese and biscuits afterwards which were superb - so much so we had to order another bottle of wine! We spent a very enjoyable and leisurely afternoon - highly recommended.

Called in to the New Inn one Sunday for a Sunday dinner...totally disappointed! The prawns in the prawn cocktail were nearly nonexistent and the ones that did make it to my plate were still frozen! The bread with the slab of pate was stale...fell to peices when it was picked up and the pate was not home made and was too salty....staff were apologetic but did little to do anything about it. The veg with the main was stone cold..that was the final straw and for the first time ever we left the without eating our food. Ended up going to Mozerallas, which was spot on as always

Visited with a friend, warm and friendly welcome. A good choice on the menu, with an excellent £6.95 2 course lunch deal - though we chose from the main menu. Food served quite quickly, the burger must be tried it is amazing and sourced from a local farm shop.Think the owners, who have only been in since the beginning of the year are really striving hard and this is paying off. Certainly worth recommending. Many thanks - see you soon

This was one of the nicest pub lunches we have had in some time. A real cut above! The service was top notch too, the drinks nice and bubbly, no flatness and the food simply oozing with taste and quite honestly out of this world! What a find! We'll be back :-)

we ate here with friends on Bank Holiday monday after a walk in the country. The menu is not extensive, and three items were not available. Service was very friendly, and they really made the dogs welcome. The food was excellent, and healthy portions. Food service was a tad slow considering there was a handful in.

We had a lovely evening here. Upon arrival the pub was clean and welcoming. Myself, my mother and my daughter came and the staff were so lovely and assertive. The food was really nice, we came in here as we were visiting the area and we would definitely come again.

We were seated quickly in a pleasant room. After a shortish wait we ordered 2 sandwiches, a portion of chips and 2 coffees. After a long wait the coffee arrived but was only lukewarm, I asked for another one that was hotter but the waitress seemed confused, eventually we got replacements which were slightly warmer but I didn't want to risk complaining twice ... The food was delicious but the chips were plonked down with no offer of vinegar or sauces, not even salt. After rugby tackling a passing waitress we asked for vinegar which was deposited on the table but with no comment or question about whether there was anything else we wanted. At no point did anyone ever come back to the table to ask if everything was alright or did we want anything else, which considering it is table service and not cheap, I would expect. We are still here wondering how on earth we pay as we have been finished for at least 15 minutes and are still being studiously ignored. Maybe if we get up to leave they might notice us. To summarise food lovely if expensive service atrocious.

" Gastropub " it says on their website....NEVER ! We went for Sunday lunch after reading how popular this place was on our local FB page. Not the nicest of dining areas , certainly not like their photos. Tiled floor , mis-matched furniture, more like a transport cafe for lorry drivers. The whole place is very rundown and drab , peeling wallpaper, damp patches etc. No starters available . Meat was tender and plates piled high but frozen soggy sprouts, cabbage with loads of stalk and nothing seasoned at all . Very bland .Not a good experience. We like to support local businesses but sadly won't return here. The staff were lovely but it needs a lot of money and a total revamp in order to survive . I hope it does!
