Really lovely food and service. Special 241 offers every weekday. Will visit again when in the area.

Wednesday lunch went hoping for two for one special. Only burger and chips on Wednesday so my friend and I didn't choose that option. I had chicken and leek pie with an over done pastry crust. Filling was acceptable but could have been more. Vegetables were a ramikin of peas that were hard and overcooked. Cos were edible but again over cooked. Price was high for the standard of food served. Thought I'd come here again as i had a good experience a few years ago. Won't be coming again.

Too cold in the restaurant area. The burgers were very small and poor quality like some birdseye frozen burgers! And then to charge £18 is disgraceful! 3 sausage and mash £17 !!!!! Where do you get your prices from? 40p for a dash of lime cordial is ridiculous making it £2.49 for a soda and lime is robbery, total understand you have to make a profit but this is ridiculous. What the hell has happened to the place and the roaring fire? Very sad to see it so expensive yet so poor :(

No good for vegetarians. Only one really uninspiring choice on the menu and no specials board. Very disappointing and won't be returning which is such a shame as the rest of the group had great food. Very short sighted of who ever creates the menu.

This pub does the best chips in the whole entire world. They are in my top 3 favourite foods of all time, please never close or stop doing them I could not cope.

Been going for years and always loved it but was disappointed in our last visit. 2 for 1 great, or so we thought it would be. Went on a Monday, option was sausage or pork. Plain sausages and pork just 2 small pieces in a sauce. Tasted nice but very small. Chips were always the best chips, but this time we're poor...very small portion and thin and dry. We were first table of the day at 12pm and had to pre book so no excuse for poor chips. Prices have risen so much, it's a shame as it was our go to place. Main lady who serves is lovely, and staff are all nice and friendly. Just the food that let's them down.

Really didn't enjoy my experience here at bulls head pub! After finally been just me and my partner alone without the dogs and kids after a busy Christmas we was excited to try the bullshead pub after passing by this residence often when heading for a walk at blackmoorfoot res. So to start we was seated in an area on our own for the first 5 mins only to have two family's come in to the area where they was with a couple of wet dogs from their walks so we asked if we could maybe move to somewhere dog free and be able to relax with our meal which they sorted for us and we was thankful for that. The residence had the heating on but there was terrible Draft from somewhere and we couldn't take our coats off without been uncomfortable so we kept them on (we also noticed most other diners with jumpers or coats on too) Our mains came and I was slightly underwhelmed at the my plate of mostly salad and Coleslaw, my burger meat was thin and was a bit lost on the big bread bun and I had 10 hefty chips but would have liked more. Overall I enjoyed the taste but I would have liked more food. My partner enjoyed her cajun chicken skewers but didn't think there was much on the plater either and she would have like some more chicken meat, she said her chips were a bit hard and burnt. Desserts were horrendous! I had a pistachio cheesecake with ice cream and I have never tasted anything more strange in my life, the cheesecake had no biscuit base and was all just a foam consistency which tasted nothing like pistachios and only of an overpowering taste of marzipan. It was just a plate of mush with no crunch and looked as undesirable as it tasted. My partners chocolate fudge cake and custard was a bland sponge with an over watery custard! Service: The food here isn't the cheapest but the service was akin to a low grade cheap restaurant! The waitress we had was young and shy and didn't seem like she was in the right job, she didn't once say to us to enjoy our meal and we didn't get asked once if everything was ok with our meals whilst or after eating them. I put my cheesecake to the end of the table after having one bite from it and it was left there until the waitress cleared our tables 15 minutes later.. After passing by our table and seeing I hadn't eaten it on at least 6 occasions to tend with others, She then eventually asked if we had done but didn't asked if we enjoyed it or why I didn't eat it, so I said to her I didn't like my dessert that's why I haven't eaten it and she said sorry and then just took the food away. We was then left sat there for 10 minutes while the waitress tended to other customers not knowing wether the bill was coming to our table or if we had to go to the bar. We eventually got up and went to the bar to pay. We will not be returning here as the food didn't match the prices and the hospitality was very under par. We felt like we wasted the very rare time we got to ourselves.

Fish and chips £19. Child fish and chips £10. Very disappointing. I had to ask the waitress is this really the £19 adult portion of fish and chips.

As always I come from Tenerife , and the bulls head is one of my favourite places to visit , the food is amazing as is the staff and the owner , always very welcoming . Definitely suggest a visit if your in Huddersfield

Xmas party of 7 all had xmas menu every course was amazing and well presented will definitely be doing a return visit .

Excellent food, excellent wine and excellent service. We went for dinner last night and all of the food was just lovely. The lady serving is was very attentive and couldn’t do enough to help. Just excellent.

We hadn't been here before but read some positive reviews and decided to try it out. We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu (two lamb shanks and a roast beef). The food was delicious - plenty of meat, very tender, accompanied by excellent crispy roast potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. For pudding we had sticky toffee pudding, lemon tart and chocolate pudding, all of which were superb. The service was great too - very friendly and attentive. Top marks. We'll be back.

Positives: the beef & lamb were beautifully cooked. Staff are friendly & the service is good. Negatives: Yorkshire pudding & roast potatoes were strangely dry. The worst thing however was the gravy. Very strong, dark & way too salty.

Service was great but the food is shockingly overpriced. Paid £17 for a halloumi burger that had absolutely nothing to it. If you’re going to charge those prices, at least try to be creative with your dishes and make your customers feel they are getting value for money. Overfilling the plate with chips doesn’t compensate I’m afraid. Disappointing.

We visited for lunch on a Monday, the girl serving was very nice, brought our drinks and took our food order. We had to wait about 30mins for the food which usually is a good sign… but! What can I say! It was shocking, the pie in particular! It was supposed to be chicken and leek pie, one would expect tender pieces of chicken in a creamy leek sauce. Not what I got! I lifted the crust off the top and underneath lurked a yellow stagnant swamp! It looked curdled, the gravy can only be described as milky water with scraggy bits of chicken floating in it. Seemed to be the remnants of a chicken that would normally be used to put in a stock or better still, thrown away. I had a taste, the bits of “chicken” must have been boiled in a water milk! Disgusting taste and texture. Needless to say, I didn’t eat it, the chips were ok so I ate those, the peas were passable, we also had onion rings and were surprised to see how many there were! However, they had some hard pieces of batter on them as if they had been refried and the bottom of the bowl was swimming in grease! Something else we left. The burger was just ok, dried crusty bun, fatty undercooked bacon, a layer of onion relish plus a little cheese. Salad ok but drenched in dressing and a pot of the obligatory coleslaw. Two large diet cokes which were nice and the whole thing came to £46.30! Poor food, overpriced! We won’t be returning!

Service can often be rather slow, but the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is usually excellent and it’s mostly very good value.

On arrival for our reservation we were shown to our table,given menus and drinks order taken,25 minutes later our food order hadn’t been taken despite the restaurant being virtually empty and four members of staff were more interested in chatting to each other.We decided to pay for our drinks and go elsewhere giving our apologies to the staff for interrupting their conversation!!

Lovely pub with character. There's at least one fireplace in there. Also a room desognated for pubgoers with dogs. If you are one, it's best to book a table as it gets busy at popular times. A few picnic benches outside, right by the road but on the southern side, if you like to feel the full power of the sun. Good selection of typical pub food and some fancier options. Pleasant service but needs more care when taking orders as took ours wrongly. The pub has a parking lot for somewhere around 40 vehicles. There are quite a few walks in the area including the ones around Blackmoorfoot Reservoir (10 minutes walk from the pub, you can park along Reservoir Side Road).

A traditional pub come food stop off. We have eaten here a couple of times but generally call by just for a refreshing drink two or three times a week while on a walk and the welcome is always generous despite us not dining which is to be admired. It's a consistent or fixed menu offering but that's easier for them to manage which is a good idea. The portion size is huge as we experienced those two times that we have dined here and the food standard seems more than adequate. It's a "buy one get one free" offer on meals at certain times, excludes bank holidays and peaks I guess.

We visited this pub for a meal on a Saturday, having been before and been very satisfied with the service from the waiting staff and the standard of the food. This time, the waiting staff were wonderful as usual, but sadly, the same cannot be said of the manager. Because I have a food intolerance, I was not allowed to take advantage of the Daily Special, which is an offer of two mains for the price of one. When we asked if they could substitute a similar main to the Special, which was £1 cheaper than the Daily Special dish and did not contain the food I can't tolerate, we were refused by the manager/owner. If was difficult to understand why this was impossible. I have no control over my intolerance, and I felt our group was penalised for this. The manager showed no empathy and offered no reason for the refusal other than "that is the offer". I have given the experience 3/5 because the waiting staff are very good and the meals are generally good. But the manager could do with customer service training. BE WARNED.... if you have a food allergy or intolerance, you will be excluded from their Daily Special offers.

Terrible customer service. My wife and I thought we would try this venue for an early evening tea. My wife has an intolerance to vinegar and asked the waitress to make sure the meal did not contain anything with a vinegar content. Ie , pickles, sauces, coleslaw etc. we both ordered the burger with salad and chips. After 45 mins and every table that arrived after us receiving their meal we asked the waitress to chase our order up. Her response was that ‘it’s just going on the grill now’ When the meal arrived there was onion chutney (which contains vinegar) on the burger. We asked for this to be changed her response was ‘there is no coleslaw or dressing on the salad.’ I had to point out that the chutney contained vinegar. The meal was replaced within minutes - the burger no longer had the relish on it but the salad had a vinegar dressing and coleslaw on the plate - which also contains vinegar! It arrived so quickly it was obviously someone else’s order… Frustrated I asked to see the manager and his attitude was dreadful. He was not at all interested and basically said ‘so you want a burger and chips’ - totally lacking any customer service skills and unacceptable. I paid for our drinks and left and will not return

A very nice menu, and well cooked food. Essentially a food pub, and the choice of ales was a bit limited (in fact, only one real ale, and a few kegs). Staff very friendly and helpful. We stopped over in the car park in our motorhome. The gate is locked overnight which made us feel secure.

Visited again for a Monday night treat. Amazing ribs with the fabulous BOGOF offer. Staff are amazing, food excellent and service is the best. Can't wait for our next visit.

Called in for the Friday Fish and Chips which were fabulous. The fish was so fresh and proper churchy chips and mushy peas. We also had the pork belly starter which I can highly recommend, it was beautiful. And once again excellent service.

We were three for dinner on a cool and drizzly evening, so we were the only ones there for a while. It's a warm and inviting environment. The service was attentive and friendly. We had fish and chips, the pie of the day, and pork belly. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. They offer a BOGO on their daily specials, which is a real bargain.

This venue is very good for local cooked food in the Huddersfield area. It is a bit of a distance from the town centre but the food quality is of a high standard. They also have a good menu and a two for one deal most nights. Highly recommended. It is advisable too, to call the pub and book before you visit. Update, still a great friendly venue with a great menu and choices of drinks. A nice outside area too and well worth a visit.

Lovely food, great staff, we had the fish chips peas, really tasty and best fish chips had in a long time! Nice welcoming atmosphere, oh the desserts look amazing!

Had a lovely meal we both had the special offer on a Friday fish and chips. Very tasty and would highly recommend it. The staff are very friendly and good at their jobs. This is the second time we have visited this year and won’t be the last.

The new menu is fantastic, one of the best meals our family has had in a very long time, the service was great, I wish we got the waitresses name to give her a mention as she was so polite and couldn't do enough for us! The mussels were best I've ever had,my wife and son had the ribs, wow, they were huge! Overall amazing meal, will be returning soon!

Been here many times over the past years & always had a good experience last night new menu how disappointing for our granddaughter very poor selection now for children it appears the main adult menu can be done in child portions. Pie if the day hanging chicken etc whet 5 year old wants that? When mentioned this to the owner he just said “something different “ and turned his back on us

I have been coming to the bulls head for about 25 years now. Always had a good meal & enjoyed a drink here with my partner or with family & friends. But last Wednesday they changed the menu which is fine but when you take a 2 year old & offered & main adult meal for £10 but nothing that a child wants ??? No chicken nuggets, sausage, fish fingers no pie if the day, burger??? You have got this wrong will not be going again what a shame.

Worst food I have had in a while. It has gone down hill over the last few years. We have been loads of times and had the new menu today, belly pork for starters and it was mostly fat and only had 6-7 pieces. Then we had the new chicken dish and it was a piece of chicken, french fries and a sauce. Definitely not worth the price. Disappointing as this is our local.

Have visited Bulls Head on several occasions in the past and always enjoyed our meals, but went today and, oh dear, what a disappointment. Both had fish and chips. Mine had a tiny piece of fish ( ok we'd asked for the small portions, but maybe not that small). This was wrapped in mostly soggy batter, more batter than fish. In fact it looked like it might have been cooked twice as there seemed to be two layers of it. A few chips which were swimming in oil on the bottom of the plate. It didn't look appealing at all. The waitress who served us was very pleasant and friendly but the manager? could have tried a bit harder. Won't be back in a hurry.

Expensive place for a pop in... Nearly £10.00 for a double rum and coke..... Walked the dog for 3 hrs... Deserved a treat. Maybe not that much of a treat..

Great food and great atmosphere as always. A special mention to the waitresses Drew and Emily who went above and beyond for us, you need staff like these 2 to succeed, an absolute credit to bulls head. Will definitely be returning in the future. The hot beef sandwich was perfect !

The food and service second to none will eating there again

Four of us came here yesterday 25/2/24 for some food and it was lovely. Gammon x 2, Lamb and bourguignon and it was all lovely. VERY attentive and friendly staff. Myself and my husband also had the camembert to start which was lovely too! The sides that we asked for was humongous! I would suggest only ordering 1 bowl of chips or onion rings to share between 2/3 people. So much for your money and lovely food. Highly recommend and will be coming back.

Had a lovely beef and ale pie today. Very friendly welcome when we arrived and good service. Haven’t been for a few years but we will definitely be back.

Really disappointed with our visit. I found a piece of plastic in my halloumi burger. Informed the waitress who took it away ‘to the kitchen’. No one came back to us until the plates were cleared away when we were asked if everything was ok. I explained I was really disappointed that the waitress hadn’t come back to me. The reply from the manager (?) was ‘oh I told her to - it’s just from the container we use to put the mushrooms in’! As if that is acceptable!!!! Unfortunately Bulls Head is now off our favourite list

If there’s one thing that drives me mad is being served drinks which are not cold, well I have to say the diet coke I was served here was the best Ive had anywhere fantastic & cold. Both my partner & I had Gammon, egg & chips which we could not fault crispy chips on outside fluffy inside, perfect eggs & tasty good quality gammon. We were very happy with everything. Neither of us had been here for many years but will defiantly be going again. Well done we really enjoyed our lunch thank you.

A typical quintessential country pub surrounded by picturesque Yorkshire landscapes. Staff are very friendly, and a decent menu with good variety food service is quick. Had Sunday lunch, which was delicious, but potatoes were a bit devilled! also a slightly wider variety of seasonable vegetables needed, however that being said, I would definitely eat there again.

This almost rated a 5 on the review but a couple of small things took the edge off. However, overall it was a very good Sunday lunch at a reasonable price. Between the four adults we had lamb,beef and pork. All the meat was excellent with a good portion. The three children all had beef … they enjoyed it but the meat portion for them was very small. The vegetables were all plated with the meat. As others have commented, there were rather a lot of parsnips but only a small portion of cabbage … and the portion of potatoes varied across the adults. Sauces and extra gravy was readily available. The desserts were good … especially the crumble and apple tart. The drinks were a fair price. There were plenty of staff and service was good despite the pub being very busy. We would be interested in a midweek visit … there seemed a lot of interesting options on the menu.

Awful service and vegetables for Sunday lunch looked like what they had left- I had 10 parsnips!!? After a mistake with main course then waited 15 mins for dessert menu- won’t be going back

Fabulous food and a lovely restaurant with great service. We eat here often and the food is always good.

Went for a family meal. I ordered the Steak pie and wife had the beef sandwich. The pie consisted of 3 small pieces of meat and numerous carrots. The beef sandwich had 1 small slither of beef. The male waiter/owner cleared our table and asked if everything was good. I replied there was hardly any meat in the pie or the sandwich. He took the plates and didn’t say a word about my reply. On a plus side the other meals were enjoyed and this is the first time I’ve had an issue about their food or service. Why ask if everything was fine and then not follow up if it’s not.

Paid £75 per head for Christmas Day. Saddened to say it was a basic 3 course meal that would have cost £25 any other Sunday of the year. No nice extras like a glass of Prosecco on arrival etc, starter was very plain, basically a ball of compressed mackerel on some lettuce, partner had a very disappointing turkey dinner with under cooked parsnips, anaemic pigs in blankets and what tasted and looked like frozen stuffing balls, I had the steak which was very nice and tender. Dessert was ok but nothing to remember…I struggle to understand the pricing of what we received other than it was just because it was Christmas Day, we left feeling underwhelmed and slightly robbed! Eaten here many times before and it’s been lovely, but paying £180 for 2 of us with a few drinks for a mediocre meal has left us really disappointed. On a positive; the waitresses were absolutely wonderful and worked so hard to make sure everyone was looked after.

Went for Sunday lunch and I had the roast beef while my partner had the pie ! My lunch was decent not the best but certainly not the worst. Unfortunately the pie was not great and had a napkin inside !!! We informed the young waitress who said she would replace the napkin pie ! My partner said it was OK and took the napkin out and eat the pie and said apart from the napkin it was very nice bless her ! Went back again today and the food was good but the price is very steep I'd say it's probably the most expensive in the area and not of the same quality or value.

Enjoyed a very good post-Christmas lunch with my son and daughter. The three of us all enjoyed the meal. Congratulations to all the staff!

I only eat very small portions and was pleased to see a variety of dishes that could be a children’s portion. Unfortunately when reading further down it stated for under 10’s. When I asked the waitress and explained my situation her reply was well have a starter. There wasn’t a starter I wanted or liked except soup which I can have at home. I think that in today’s market with food wastage high it’s not setting good standards. I order the fish with mash I ate a quarter of this and my brother had the rest. When the same waitress came to clear our table I told her how much I’d eaten and my brother had eaten the rest of the fish. Her curt reply was well see it didn’t go to waste. The majority of places these days offer smaller plates or allow you to have a child’s portion. Her tone with me was not good service. Will not be returning we were giving the place a second chance as or last visit wasn’t good you get friendlier service in a fast food place.

After a walk around Blackmoorfoot Reservoir we had lunch and the daily BOGOF menu was great value, Tuesday was pie and chips delicious . Highly recommended.

Fish and chips were rubbish,fish was undercooked probably bought in ready battered it was not worth the visit,shall not be rushing back that is for sure. We both had fish and chips and the fish was same size,obviously bought in battered probably Morrisons 4 fillets for £3.

Having enjoyed several meals here we tried Sunday lunch. We were totally disappointed. The pork was tough and inedible, the Yorkshire pudding like rubber and the roast potatoes seemed to have been cooked earlier and reheated. The lamb shank was overcooked and tasteless. Our complaint was treated with contempt by the bar staff member by telling us ho manager was available , the pub was full and he had no other complaints. My email to the pub was ignored.

Great place for a meal with friends and / or family. Their "buy 2 for the price of 1" are excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful

I wrote a review over three years ago about The Black Bull: Warm and cosy, pleasant atmosphere, top notch lunch at a bargain price and lovely staff. Great view from upstairs function room. This is still true, and we still have lunch there regularly.

Was upset after being a regular of many weeks over the last few years. Beef constantly having string in it. Had a highly recommended francesinha but very disappointed with the value for money. One slice of ham, two chorizo rings and one slice of beef smashed between 3 slices of bread doesn’t warrant the price. Want to be back as I love the place but the value for money is poor.

Fantastic food and fantastic service. Every time we go it’s just as good as the last. The food is always fresh and tastes super. The service is just as good. They have found a great balance of making sure you are ok without being in your face. Excellent once again.

We went to this pub, I spoke to the manager as I needed to ask a favour re our ordering of food, he was very accommodating and very happy to do so. All 4 of us enjoyed our main meal and all had a dessert. Excellent food and service so much so we gave a £20 tip, well deserved. We will definitely go back here again.
