The young person serving was very good and so polite. A shame the land lady was not as welcoming. Rainbow trout was cooked well, poached served with 2 small new potatoes and a small bowl of salad that had grapes and watermelon in it. An interesting choice! The fish had its tail on, perhaps served like this in the 70/80s. We could here conversations of other customers and it really was a case of locals were offered things not on the menu and had a better service. We weren't offered another drink, whilst eating. Dessert menu was hand written on a pretty card, which was thrust into my hand. I couldn't quite read this. A beautiful building with much history. A real shame as it is a tourist attraction, which is a good source of income in the current climate. But new visitors aren't really welcomed. We didn't visit again during our week's stay as again we didn't feel welcome and also the food was very overpriced.

Very homely place for a weekday lunch with family. A friendly greeting and attentive owner and staff. Lovely home cooked food and excellent sized portions. So much so, we were too full to sample the delicious sweets from the menu! The prices were very reasonable for a village pub. It used to be a regular place to visit 30 years ago and first time back after all those years ago did not dissapoint. Well worth a visit.

The 4 of us stopped in Pembridge last week for 4 nights. On the first night we wandered into this very old and quite remarkable pub. We had a few ales (which were lovely hand pulled pints) and decided to eat there. I cannot sing the praise of the food highly enough. Truly outstanding food. It was that good we ate there 3 nights out of the 4 we nights we stopped (it would have been every night if we hadn’t decided to have a curry outside of the village one night) Rosie in the kitchen and Jane front of house are a great team (alongside their lovely and attentive staff) We would recommend this pub to anybody who wants a superb hand pulled pint and fantastic food in a very charismatic old pub. What a Gem! Mark, Annie, Steve and Helen

Went up to see Pembridge Black and White Village and came across the New Inn for lunch. So old with loads of atmosphere, quaint and old-fashioned . Wife had a "bacon sandwich" half a baguette with so much local bacon she only just finished it but could not manage the bowl of local potato chips. I had the ploughmans easily enough for two, slices of pie plus a couple of thick slices of local thick-cut ham two large chunks of cheese, salad, pickled onions, an apple, a slice of melon and chutney and two chunks of fresh bread. had to bring the cheese home, so good. Couple of pints all very good prices.

Going to a local auction in Pembridge we had lunch for first time in The New Inn. What we assume was the owners we very friendly and chatty. The pub itself is very old and full of character with family photographs dotted about making the atmosphere very homely. We ordered the ploughmans for two and have to say it is the best ploughman’s we have ever had. Everything about was lovely from fresh ingredients to presentation. Absolutely delicious. The whole experience was lovely and will definitely be going again.

Unfriendly /rude landlady - we arrived as a group, we hadn't booked and simply asked if we could get a table. Told abruptly that was not possible in an agressive & dismissive tone. Went to the Red Lion instead down the road which was lot friendler and the food was perfect. Proper home made chips rather than frozen. Unfortunatley the New Inn appeasrs to trade on its location rather than its service. We wont be trying again!

I should have took notice from a previous review. Firstly found it difficult to find due to incorrect postcode on this site. Told the landlady on arrival who simply dismissed this with a "we don't have a website". Not interested having this corrected by asking us where this postcode was found. Next, directed to the most wobbly table with a broken leg. Not interested in addressing this or apologising. We took it upon ourselves to find another table. Food took ages despite it not being busy. Salad came without smoked chicken despite it being advertised as such. Provided an excuse/ lie as to why this happened. Nobody asked how our meal was. Steak was tasteless. Food was overpriced for what it was. Had to go to the bar for more drinks where the landlady was joking with the locals. An attitude that change when it came to serving me as a visitor. Basically I would never go here again and would advise people against it as there seemed no care in visitors or indeed having return visits or positive reviews.

Visited here for lunch whilst meeting other family members. When arriving the landlady isn’t the most welcoming however, the food was great! Great portion sizes and served quickly. There are two dinning rooms one on the left and another to the right. The rooms have stone floors and were chilly despite the open fire being lit. The pub is very traditional and back in time. However, cleanliness isn’t a strong point there! Overall I would go back to the new inn as food is great and the young waitress was brilliant, provided a great service. But towards the end of dessert they were flashing the lights as a signal to leave, no “would you like the bill? Or “just to let you know we’re closing soon” just a flicker of the lights. I wouldn’t expect that as we had spent £240 between 8 of us. But never mind had a great time!

After a break of some years I feared that things might have changed, but no.. (actually I imagine nothing much has changed at the New Inn due centuries, thank goodness!) The game pie was still absolutely delicious, the landlady delightful, and the atmosphere so comforting. If you visit during the winter, wrap up warm; it's a draughty old building and can be a bit nippy around the nether regions despite the log fires. If you want to experience a real traditional historic country pub which hasn't been ruined by a designer make-over this is the place for you! Just wonderful!

Visited in September 2020 as we were spending a week in Pembridge in a self-catering cottage. We opted to sit outside for an evening meal but were quite disappointed when we saw the menu as it looked more like a lunchtime menu with sandwiches, ploughmans etc. There was a limited specials board inside however. My friend chose the ham ploughmans as there was nothing she liked on the specials board, and was presented with a very basic plate of food finished off with an entire apple on the side! Very little thought to presentation. As we catered mostly for ourselves due to the Covid situation, this was one of our 'main meals out' for the week, and unfortunately we were really disappoited. Having said that, Covid hygiene levels were pretty high, it was just the food that let it down.

Was just as quirky inside -all uneven flag stone floors and an assortment of different shaped wooden tables and chairs in the small snug like bar . All the tables had fresh flowers on them and -joy of joys a great wood burning fire that was so very welcoming on a cold and windy day .I chose a glass of the palest Rose wine and my husband-who was driving had a soft drink while we perused the extensive menu .We finally decided on the battered fish chips and peas as recommended by our hostess and we were not disappointed. The chunky fillets of fish had been cooked in the lightest crispiest of batters and was delicious as was the large bowl of crisply fried chips that accompanied it .Ketchup -vinegar and tartare sauce were.also supplied and both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our food and felt so at home -we could have sat there all afternoon .

It is also very friendly with locals and the landladies were great company we stayed after our meal enjoying the chat and also the live music . A great place to have a meal when you are visiting this beautiful and historic part of proper rural country!

We couldn't believe how big the portions were! The quality was excellent and everything was freshly cooked and tasty. I had a delicious steak sandwich with all the trimmings. We sat outside as it was a lovely day. A great village pub

Attracted by the No Dogs sign we were delighted by this really great pub. We were made very welcome by the waitress and the food and beer couldn't be better. You lucky people of Penbridge - if only it was our local pub!!

the inn was stunning and a really old piece of history, trying to get in, was a nightmare for anyone disable, forget it if in wheelchair, but that was the nature of the beast as building was so old... staff were friendly, food was delicious...but it was quite expensive..same as the drink, but all told a very enjoyable experience

Saw the pub on the way through but the charming frontage can not be seen from the main road. 14th Century in every way. Cyclists stopping over for sandwiches in the bar so we went in the quirky dining room. Huge sausage sandwich with relish - best sausages ever from two of our party. Friendly ladies serving and cooking. Chips great too and beer well kept. Well worth a visit to see setting including old market and charming village.

Decided to step out for a qucik pint and chose the New Inn, the pub itself is very old and very quaint. The beer and wine were fine with average prices. The restaurant looked busy.

Very impressed with the quality of the food, the standard of service and the friendliness of the staff. To cater for 10 people, all having a different meal from a quite extensive menu, is sometimes difficult in restaurants, but not here. All the meals were served within a very short space of time. The food was hot, well cooked and beautifully presented. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and the occasion. I highly recommend this venue. A very big thank you to all the staff for a lovely afternoon.

Staying in Pembridge so decided to visit the two pubs in the village. The red lion was nice but decided to try the new inn. Saw it was a restaurant but found the bar area that had a stone floor which we decided was better as we had a dog with us. Took ages to get served as the only bar maid was with what sounded like locals in the other bar. Finally got served with drinks. Never asked if we wanted food so as she was leaving the room to go outside we asked for menus and it was then that she saw the small dog we have. We were told they don't allow dogs but we could stay because there wasn't anyone in.

Visited this authentic inn on 24/7/18. Absolutely great. Food - especially the Pembridge Platter was plentiful and delicious. Wish we lived closer so we could visit again. Landlady - Jane, was a delight. Please don't change what you're doing. It's spot on.

It was an all round very nice experience and I would definitely recommend this pub for food , they also have a wide range of shorts as well as cask ales so pay them a visit so you can enjoy the friendly welcome and great food .

What a great find tucked away alongside the High Street in Pembridge, one of North Herefordshire’s glorious Black and White villages. We stopped on the spur of the moment to enjoy a cooling drink and sample the Sunday fare. And what a great decision that was. Margaret and I just went for the roast if the day - loin of pork, served with roast and new potatoes and fresh, seasonal vegetables. The meat was thickly sliced and succulent coming with a hank of superb crackling, a couple of crunchy roast potatoes, apple sauce, mustard and - a lovely touch - our own boat of gravy. All too often carved meat served up on Sundays comes sliced up on the plate and soaking in gravy, which can simply over power the joint. But The New Inn was having none of that. And it was proper gravy in the boat. Then along cane a mountain of crisply boiled new potatoes and a medley of freshly cooked al dente seasonal vegetables. And all with change from £24 (excluding the foaming beer which was well kept and touched the spot). As if a day tour through these enchanting Black and White Villages wasn’t rewarding enough - to stumble across such an olde world hostelry as well serving such excellent liquid refreshment and simple but bang-on country food all made for a memorable Sunday during this current spell of sweltering summer weather. You must try it. Five stars!!

A few days ago we drank coffee here. The hospitality was huge. The coffee excellent and the location is great, cozy very old and cozy. Now dined here. Nice again to be received so kindly. It is very cozy at the bar. The rib eye is very well prepared the onion rings and chips are good taste and the salad is depicted and very tasty. The price-quality ratio is excellent. We will definitely return.

We stopped here for a late lunch and received a warm welcome and excellent fish and chips. Service was prompt and considerate. The décor in need of refreshment, but offset by a pleasant view at the back. Ideal place for a 'pit stop'.

Booked an evening meal whilst staying in log cabin near by. Large portions of home cooked food, quick service and friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced, in fact we were surprised and were expecting to pay more for the quality. The decor is lovely as well, quite cozy on an autumn evening. Will definitely return next time we are in the area

Just dropped in on spec for a lunchtime meal. Excellent service, very friendly staff, delicious food and great value. As of October 2024 you'll get a good sized meal for about a tenner. Good choice of ales etc. Location is perfect for visiting the cathedral and city. If you need an EV charger there's one about 100 meters up the road.

Very nice venue in an idyllic bit of Herefordshire, very close to the Wye. The pub opened specially for our group of around 20 (not normally open on winter Tuesdays) and the food was excellent. Alas our hostess Katie had a medical emergency that day and no desserts were on offer, but we will definitely return.
