The New Inn in Hart

Went here for Sunday lunch. One meat eater, one vegetarian and one fish eater. Menu isn't huge but there is plenty to cater for everyone. The veggie Sunday lunch was roasted celeriac with mushroom gravy which was excellent, delicious. The vegetables were all dente, which I love as they retain their flavour, Yorkshire nice and gravy yummy. Pork with crackling also got a huge thumbs up as did the fish curry. Fan food, excellent service and a great welcome on arrival.

Found the food very good and something different to eat. Very friendly staff and service. Will be returning. Very relaxed seating area and comfortable.

The food and service here were great. The staff friendly and professional and the restaurant very busy in Saturday lunchtime and evening whilst we were there. The room unfortunately was overpriced for what it was and set our expectations accordingly. It was perfect toy functional but not pleasant. The bathroom was very basic and needed a good clean (it probably had been at some stage and then left and not dusted before we arrived), had broken tiles and very basic fixtures. The room was fine but not to the standard of £180 rate. We coped but it was disappointing.

We found ourselves in a situation with no electricity at home and the need to work. We came here to get some food and ended up staying the day in a quiet corner with our laptops. Of course we had food and drink and both were amazing and the service was fantastic. Thank you so much for accommodating us. It really helped us a lot.

This restaurant promised so much. We met with friends for a Sunday lunch at 1 with a reserved table. The table position was lovely in a bay window. The initial table reception was OK if slow in coming, ordering then took another 10 minute wait. With starters and mains (we all had the Sunday roast options) ordered at the same time, starter delivery was another 15 minutes. Main courses arrived about half an hour later. All the meals looked fine, but upon trying to eat any of it we found most of the meat to be unchewable, the roast potatoes to be hardly able to be penetrated by a knife (3 out of 4 left theirs) and then only allowing the minimal amount of potato to be scraped from the rock hard crust, the Yorkshire pudding was a similar situation with only the least hard part of the base and some of the rest of the pudding edible. The vegetables, carrot, greens and cauliflower cheese, were again all too inedible to be enjoyed. Ice creams and pudding were a happy break from such a dire and unappetising meal. £160 for 4, with drinks bought at the bar before? So disappointing, we won't be going back and won't be recommending. Such a shame there is no 0 rating.

What a real treat! Mother’s Day at the New Inn, with three generations at the table and delicious food served by lovely, compassionate and competent staff. Hats off to everyone we encountered on the day. Superb. Highly, highly recommended.

Me and five friends spent two nights at The New Inn while attending a riding course at nearby Wellington Riding. Our breakfasts and dinners were all excellent, the rooms were very nice and the service throughout was fantastic. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful and made our stay really enjoyable and we hope to come back again soon.

As usual, fabulous food, so delicious. The staff are excellent, quick and attentive but leave you alone until everyone is finished unlike some places that cannot wait to clear away; it is such a pleasure to visit, always. Thanks to you all!

Looking at the reviews for The New Inn we decided to give this pub a go and had lunch there yesterday. So glad we did, the staff were very efficient and friendly. The food was sooo delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Birthday meal with the family. Was absolutely superb, and I'm always heartened by the friendliness and efficiency of the team. Big Ben behind the bar always makes time to give us a smile and have a chat, and he knows his beer as well. Thank you for always being our favourite spot for a pint/food.

A wonderful lunch as always! Haydon and Jazz served us and as always they were kind and courteous, and enjoying a laugh. The food was delicious, I had the Cajun fish burger, my wife the Cesar salad and my in-law the fish and chips. Such a special place to be, so very friendly.

What a disaster this pub is. For years it was mediocre at best but at least tried to be a local pub. Now it's been taken over by the new owners from the 'world renowned' The Hoggett. Yes, basically another local pub that was renowned for poor service and quality. The food at this pub has consistently been dire and the staff (Ben aside) are a horrible lynch mob that run you out of the pub once it hits 10pm then actually assaults you in their own car park..On top of that the local 'pub watch' then ban you from all local pubs because the owners felt that you weren't accepting enough of their physical and verbal abuse. Well, the people vote their feet The New 'Hoggett' Inn and you, will go the same route as the other failures before you. Oh by the way, scrap the plastic plants, they're extremely distasteful.

I had the lamb and it looked like a dead toad served on a bed of mash get smashed potatoes. The paid staff were great and earned their well deserved tips. But the food was rubbish and the choice of beers and wine was clearly down to who sponsors this pub. At the end after the Bernarnd Matthews roast turkey with a pig in blanket and 4 sprouts that were the only edible item on the plate after the sugar coated other vegetables. The end was great, the New Inn good people saw us off with empty glasses, because they closed the bar (at 10.15) so we had to get in our taxis and wish them a happy chrishmas. Thanks the New Inn, I won't return and I will spread the word that you run a terrible establishment.

We looked for a pub to stop for dinner on our way back to our hotel and came across The New Inn. Looked fine from the outside and the menu appeared to have a good choice. That’s the positives over!We sat inside as a young lad appeared to be a bit jolly and smoking in the garden area. This lad was far from entertaining without a top on and hands down his trousers. It transpired he was barred! Though that didn’t stop him coming in and confronting the manager/Landlord. He got aggressive and called him a f***ing c**t - just what you need when you sit down as a family. He eventually left.The staff were friendly and helpful. Though the atmosphere was dead and you could hear all their conversations. The music choice was interesting too. A couple of tracks were full of swearing. Again, not what you want when you sit down with your family.The food was poor and hugely overpriced. The price of a drink was shocking too. The starters came out so quick it was obviously just heated up. The chicken skewers were rubbery/chewy. The mains were not much better. The pie was a soggy mess, drowned in gravy probably in an attempt to add flavour. The one bit of broccoli, one bit of cauliflower and two bits of carrot were a little disappointing as a vegetable selection. The duck stir fry was a plate of grease. Poor food, over priced, clearly not popular as the place was almost empty at dinner time - we should have walked out after walking in - lesson learnt.

Stopped here for a family meal and it was lovely.2 of us have dairy allergies so usually pizza is off limits, not here. They offer vegan cheese and gluten free base if required. We both went for pizza and it was delicious, large too. The other 2 meals were a mixed grill and gammon steak, they were great too. We shared the butchers board for starter that was nice with good selection. Would recommend and will return.

Went for lunch with friends, table booked in advance so they knew we were coming. Arrived at 12.00 just lighting a fire, kept coat on until food arrived as so cold. Even at 1.30 when we left the place had not warmed up.It's a shame as both the food and service are good.

Came out within 10 mins of ordering, the yorkshires where ice cold - parts still frozen. You could suck the veg through your teeth and we all had different veg to each other. The lamb was tough and the pork came with no crackling even though we checked it did before ordering. There was no seasoning to anything and the gravy was very poor.We as the manager to replace the yorkshires and he went to pick them off our plates but stopped himself when he saw our shocked looks. When he came back the replacements were burnt on top. The pub itself is very run down and really needs some love and care, lots of chair cushions were threadbare. We were also seated by a door with a little one and every time someone went to the loo we were hit with an icy blast. Sad because I have been and had the ribs before which are great!

Went as a family of 5 for lunch on Saturday and service good, meals lovely and hot and tasty and all arrived at the same time. Reasonable too. Can’t ask for any more than that can you ?

Visited this week and what a lovely evening we enjoyed, great menu choice and good service. From select choices of meats and fish to specials a really good range, we went in for one course but enjoyed 3 courses of quality.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime with a walking group. Had pre-ordered but were pleasantly surprised at how quickly our food was delivered. I chose the Chicken supreme. The sauce was gorgeous. My fellow diners were complimentary about their dishes too. The menu had a great range including many vegetarian options. Excellent service too. Recommended.

Wanted to meet family here half way between us and booked table for Saturday lunchtime; when arrived 1.45pm no one else dining there at all and while we were there only one other table occupied; very worried we had done the wrong thing; but staff extremely helpful and friendly; but good menu; not many wines but the usual stand bys on the list and not overpriced; all in all we had a good time and recommend it but apparently not on a day it is for some strange and unjustified empty.

Second visit here with friends today and we all enjoyed it as much as our first visit last month. The menu is really good with some nice varied dishes on offer.Service is excellent and we were made to feel most welcome. We will certainly be coming back.

I must say I am rather shocked at some of the poor reviews. We first discovered this place whilst bypassing Basingstoke after visiting our son in Southampton. We stoped and had an excellent meal never dreaming that we would end up moving house, living a mile away from it and it becoming our local. The night we moved, we stayed in the hotel. My son helped with the moved and stayed, too. The evening meal was as good as previously. Our rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was quick and served by the same evening staff. I discovered that they lived in quarters upstairs. Since then, we have regulary gone there, on our own, with friends, with family. The staff always greet us with friendly smiles and work very hard as it is a popularly place. The rump steak is always delicious and tender and I am a fussy one when it comes to steaks! It's made me realise not to take much notice of negative reviews and to concentrate on the good ones as they are probably the more realistic. The New Inn is a good all rounder.

We called in for an afternoon drink we had a warm welcome very pleasant staff we asked if they had a menu they had a wide variety of food including sunday roast we chose 2 roast lamb dinners nicely prepared lots of meat thinly sliced with mint sauce

First time visit for lunch with friends today and we were all very impressed. Nice selection of varied dishes on the menu and there is even a lighter option menu which was very good value. Service was good and efficient and we all felt that our custom was appreciated. We will certainly come back again.

On arriving: the greeting was poor going into reception , no one to great me and signs all over to walk through to the bar to go and get someone. However the gentleman was warm and friendly.

My ploughman’s was lovely but my husbands lamb came with ‘seasonal vegetables’ frozen carrots do not class as seasonal, normally the food is really good but had a bad experience on bank holiday Monday and my husband had the lamb and it look like a frozen meal from Ireland. I was hoping to speak to the manager before having to go down this route but he has not been available when we were in, I have to say that the quality has really gone down for ‘seasonal vegetables’ would not recommend a Sunday roast.

Having read the previous reviews on TripAdvisor for this restaurant, wasn't sure what to expect. All the food we ordered was excellent, all freshly cooked, piping hot, very well presented and good quality. Where the restaurant let itself down was on service and front of house. The staff that serviced us were all polite and friendly, just lacking in enthusiasm and gave the impression they didn’t really want to be there. For any restaurant your service staff are the most visible element of your business and when they don’t perform it really lets a business down. The pricing of the food was on the mid to upper range which was ok, but I would certainly expect a much higher level of service to go with that. We were hoping this would be a good find and a restaurant we would go back to again, but unless things changes with the service, not sure we will.

Disappointing as the menu read so well. The special mixed grill was priced to set expectations of a proper meal and it came as a disappointment. Average at best. having said that some our party had excellent starters and a couple had good main meals but overall we were disappointed. Service was OK but not exceptional in any way. If you want to charge towards the top end of pub grub you need to provide towards top end service and food or like us customers will not come back.

Visited for an anniversary celebration within a large group. As the food was being distributed the lady in particular looked quite irritated as she was doing it. I know it was a large group but more people should have been distributing the meals. Some of us had finished our meals before some had even arrived. I had lamb...the thinnest palest slices I had ever seen, the veg were ok but plain..homemade yorkshire which actually was nice, a small amount of pale gloopy gravy and 4 small pale roast potatoes. I didn't ask for mint sauce as food was still being delivered and I didn't want to hassle the lady any more but none was offered or on the table. No apple sauce for the pork or horseradish for the beef. Talking about beef my husband had the beef roast dinner and it was the most tasteless chewy peice of beef he has ever had.
