This is a lovely inn in a lovely area with gorgeous views. We stayed in room 33 which was spotless and extremely comfortable. The balcony is a great bonus but we didn’t sit out there as it was too cold lol…….and we preferred the bar :) The breakfast was lovely in both days and the choice excellent. We didn’t have any evening meals here as we ate out in Sowerby Bridge. The staff are all lovely both in the bar area and at breakfast. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back to stay again in the future. Many thanks for a very special pleasant weekend.

Some confusion on arrival although we had booked before Christmas. Our table was not ready for us and staff hastily brought cutlery and took our order. There was a mistake on our mains which meant some of us had to wait for the correct dish to be cooked. The risotto rice was sticky and unpalatable. The fish and"soft boiled" egg overcooked. Winter vegetables were frozen peas. I'm sorry but this is not good enough and we will not be back.

Visited the restaurant tonight with friends from Scotland. Walking into the restaurant made you look forward to having our meal there, the disappointment started there. Stale bread was served with the liver pat’e and the goats cheese tart was so overcooked they pastry disintegrated when cut into. The first main of risotto was sent back as cold, the steak pie had a greenish tint to the meat so was left and the steak blade was too over seasoned with salt. All our chips looked like they had been refried a dozen times, and were black, and the vegetables were soggy and luke warm at best. My wife asked for a drink during our meal and was told by the waitress to go to the bar and see what they had, she looked like she really did not want to be there. Can we have a bottle of prosseco please, the reply was we have run out, what in a restaurant?? Will we return, never!!! One word of advice, try looking for a new chef!!!!

We recently stay in the hotel rooms attached to the New Hobbit. The rooms were lovely however the meal in the restaurant was a disappointment which was a shame. My husband ordered the fish and chips but when it came it was fish and potato wedges , just weird. I had the beef feather blade which came with dauphinoise potatoes which were the most tasteless I've ever eaten. We both agreed that both meals were just entirely bland, no seasoning and the prawn cocktail my husband had for starters was declared the worst he'd ever had! I don't know if the chef had an off night but it certainly let's the hotel rooms down. We might stay again but will dodge the food. The staff were friendly so that was a plus.

We have just been on a 2 night break to this little hotel located in a lovey spot just up the hill from Sowerby Bridge. We had a lovely room with a balcony with a great view. The room was small but extremely clean and the bathroom was immaculate and very nicely done. The shower was hot and powerful. We found the food was great value for money. Breakfast included fresh fruit and yogurt and nothing was too much trouble to the staff. My partner is gluten free and they provided gluten free cereal and toast which believe me is not always the case in much larger hotels. We dined both nights in the restaurant, which is a bright modern area, and the food was delicious. Again my gluten free partner was well catered for. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. This small hotel (34 rooms?) is in the most wounderful location. High up above sowerby bridge. Walked down to town took 15 mins. Taxi up (£3.50) as would still be struggling up hill now! Very steep. Hotel is well done out with modern furnishings and decor. Felt cosy and welcoming. Staff (Matt) welcomed us nicely. We stayed in the annex which was a good size and comfortable. Only criticism would be as we were on ground floor we didn't feel we could open the windows without compromising our security. If you book in summer an upstairs room would be better and they also have a small balcony and great views. We enjoyed the breakfast. Well cooked, good choice and good quality. Some good walks just behind hotel through the golf course and in to the moor. Lovely stay and would be happy to go back.

Fairly decent food but a marked drop in quality from when we visisted in summer for the carvery. cauliflower cheese didnt taste of cheese at all and the veg was all to to the same standard. wafer thin portion of meat but hey ho, you can always go back for seconds on veg and gravy as we did last time (and as you can at any carvery) or so i thought. went back for seconds and everything was covered up...one of the servers told me the chef has said no seconds on anything as they were low on stock. Its not a carvery then. One of the bar staff admitted they had never known a carvery where you could have seconds. all the staff seemed busy chatting or moving laundry...no one seemed bothered about my meal.

We also had the delicious pakoras as starters, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal. The rest is just all about volume! Myself and my husband went for Sunday carvery after having had lovely meals including carvery prior to this visit. Not sure what's changed, maybe the chef?, however the food was not great. There were 3 meats on the carvery, beef, ham and chicken breasts. The chicken was dry and over seasoned - 1 half per serving. The beef and ham were fatty, with what I can only describe as a tube running through the beef. The Yorkshire puddings were soggy and flat, the stuffing just tasted of fat and were a dull brown. Pigs in blankets were no bigger than a cocktail sausage and were tasteless. The vegetables were over salted and had gone dry from being under the heat on the serving counter. It's such a shame as we have visited multiple times before and the food has always been great so not sure what has happened this time.

The menu and prices would lead you to think that the food will be good quality and interesting. Unfortunately that is not the case, the food is decidedly bland and over-priced. We then ordered a pudding it’s really expensive we paid £6.50 for a pudding each n they were really small portions. I ordered proffitaroles and they were suppose to have salted caramel cream in them with chocolate sauce on top. As you can see from the pictures there was no cream n a tiny drizzle of what they claim was chocolate sauce!!!! For £6.50 I would want a decent portion but I was served 4 proffitaroles is an absolute rip off!! I complained to the waitress she apologised and told me I still had to pay!!!

We have really enjoyed meals here in the past but yesterday we arrived to find that 2 out of the 4 tables already there complained about both their food and service. We asked the manager what was the problem. He said he didn't really know and to be honest I got the impression he tried to hard to find out. He then asked us whether we wanted a table setting up. As we had had good experiences in the past we said OK. Then we sat down and in short from 4 people 2 people could not have their first choice main and 3 of us could not have our first or second choice starters. Although the menu is quite large I do think the purpose of the restaurant is to generally serve what is on the menu or in the 30 minutes of waiting they explain to you what is not available prior to spending £40 on drinks and being shown to your table. A bit of a rip off in my opinion especially when you are looking at £30-£40 a head excluding drinks. Perhaps it was due to the holiday period but if you choose to go best to check availability.

Our meal finally arrived with fries instead of chips, the waiter said he would change it straight away, meanwhile tried to bite into the roast beef sandwich only to find that it was so tough that I couldn't even cut into it. Another member of staff came and asked if every thing was ok I explained about the beef and she said she would take it away and I could order something else, I said I would just have the chips that had just arrived and please could I have some gravy and bread and butter, by the time she returned with what I had ordered I had eaten most of the chips whilst they were still hot. we were not offered any vinegar or other condiments. Went to the New Hobbit Hotel for Sunday lunch, not the easiest of places to get to.We had a friendly greeting and excellent service throughout. We only had a main course each and both chose the baked cod, the cod was cooked just right and tasted excellent. The vegetables however had suffered a bit from sitting in the warmer for too long, there was a good selection, but in my opinion slightly over cooked. I suspect they were fine when first put out. Very nice and clean dining room well looked after and comfortable. All in all I would say an average to slightly above average pub Sunday lunch, but with friendly and efficient service.

Adult food was nice but disappointed by my son's meal from the children's menu. He had toad in the hole as a main ( which was actually a mini Yorkshire pudding and two sausages) with mashed potatoes but no vegetables at all (so he shared ours). He ordered a jam sponge and custard from the children's menu for pudding. This came with coconut flavoured sponge (& the adult menu had a steamed jam and coconut flavoured sponge), so we couldn't work out whether he was given the wrong pudding or if the menu is wrong. Tried explaining to the waitress but she didn't quite get the problem.

Absolutely disgusting meal, food is VERY salty, burger was the worst I've ever had, salty and made from corned beef. 3 of us had a burger and we all left it! Atmosphere was non existent, at 7 o'clock on a Saturday night. Was served a jug of tap water with a dead spider in it, didn't even get an apology from the manager, the staff were all just chatting among themselves at the bar. Really disappointed, I've had nicer burgers at McDonald's!

Awesome place. Ambiance, food, service...It has always been a pet hate of mine when visiting other pub restaurants on a Sunday that, as a non-meat eater I would have to watch my friends and family having all the trimmings with their meal - Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes etc - whilst I had a fish or vegetarian option with healthy steamed vegetables and consoled myself that at least my meal had less calories! Well at the New Hobbit you get the best of both as there is the option to have fish or vegetarian options as part of the carvery and there is even vegetarian gravy available! The carvery accompaniments are just gorgeous - from roast potatoes, mash, crispy Yorkshire puddings, steamed red cabbage, honey roasted parsnips. All in a wonderfully modern comfortable setting with fantastic service. Can't fault the place! Highly recommended!

The menu offer standard pub fare and they have a small range of good draught beers. I had fish which had dry burnt batter yet was under cooked inside. My frend's meal was also rather over cooked.

The ambience of the place is lovely. They've done it up to a good standard with a nice 'posh local pub' feel to it. The view over the valley is delightful. The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The food was a bit of a let down. My Cajun chicken was over-spiced and the yoghurt and mint sauce meant to take a little of the heat was largely unnoticeable. The 'grill' food mostly appeared to have been chucked in a deep fat fryer (I don't know whether it had or not but it certainly appeared to have done so). The food was adequate but not up to the standard I'd have expected based on the presentation of the place.

Just spent a lovely Saturday evening at The New Hobbit. The newly refurbished internal decor was superb. Very comfortable, with a friendly warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our meals were excellent. Home-cooked, tasty, and, well presented. Very reasonably priced, from a varied menu, for all three courses. The service was top-notch. All staff were pleasant, attentive, and fully obliging. A nice touch, was the delightful Emma White, who played for us on the piano, as we ate our meals. Thanks, The New Hobbit, for a very enjoyable evening. Thanks, Emma, for making our evening even more special.

The Hobbit definitely serves the best carvery in the area!! On Sundays, there is a menu with a range of starters and they alway have a choice of three meats. The selection of accompaniments is absolutley excellent and they are the best roast potatoes I have ever eaten!! There's plenty of vegetables too. Kids menu is also available. Carvery is excellent value too! Also have a delicious range of desserts.Decor is lovely and nice atmosphere, there is outdoor seating with beautiful views in the nice weather, and a real fire for the colder days. Only let down is that on 'non-carvery' days, the menu is very expensive for what it is and food tastes like its been heated up from the freezer!Overall good - but try and go on a Sunday!!

This is a lovely restaurant. Very pleasant and always a great meal. It may be my southern roots...with roads being quite flat down south but getting to this restaurant is quite a struggle!! The amount of steep hills and crazy bends proved to be a challenge!! But hey that's just me!! The restaurant itself is lovely. Very friendly. Great food.

Was a bit hungry so came to the hobbit with my girlfriend, very professional staff, warm nice decor, I got the belly pork and my girlfriend got the rump steak ( which was massive by the way good portion ) not her steak wasn't chewy at all it was nice, my belly pork was gorgeous with the sweet potato mash and black pudding! I don't know how people can say the food is bad because it's not. Sometimes it's better not to read reviews and just go there with out looking for faults. Fairly cheap too. Will be returning again shortly! Your staff are a credit to you!

Called in today whilst visiting friends in the area, we were made very welcome even though it was fairly busy, my dog was welcomed too, in the bar area, which was very much appreciated. We all had the carvery, including a veggie option, all were superb with lots of choice of vegetables. The separate 'sauces' table is a great idea. I couldn't fit in a dessert but the others did and they looked amazing. Thanks so much New Hobbit, your staff are a credit to you, we'll definitely be back!

The restaurant and bar in the New Hobbit is very nice. It has a nice atmosphere with very good country views. The food is good too. I had a confit of duck dish which was delicious. Plus the company I was with made it even better.I recall having dessert, but can't remember what I ate. I am sure it was good.

We travelled to the Hobbit from Leeds for my birthday, Id seen that it had mostly good reviews and my parents live in Halifax and had heard good things.Firstly the building itself is decorated to a lovely standard, the atmosphere was very relaxing and the piano player playing mixed takes on modern hits was a lovely addition. Great Zinfandel rose on offer think it was called Jack and Gina, the bar prices seemed pretty reasonable too. Unfortunately the food was a let down which was so dissapointing as on the Menu it looked lovely. My Husband ordered the "Heart Braker" burger which he said was nice but the burger was slightly too salty (on reading other reviews this seems to be an on going issue) and the fried were frozen from a bag which is dissapointing and unnecessary. My dish however was where we encountered the real issues, I ordered the lemon and her poussin when it arrived I thought it odd that the packaging tie around the legs was still present (im no chef but in my chicken cooking experience that should be removed to allow heat to travel through meat). Anyway I cut down between the leg and breast and unfortunately my plate immeadiately filled with blood due to the fact that the chicken was pretty much raw inside, cut down the other side and exactly the same happened so it was promptly returned.I will say that the staff were extremely apologetic and the manager herself came over after the waitress, we will agree to disagree that this was simply a blood vessel.. it wasnt, the chicken was massively under cooked and pretty dangerous in all honesty.I replaced this with a burger but by the time this arrived my Husband was finished, mine didnt seem overly salty but they were different and again frozen chips.Husband had sticky toffee pudding for desert which he seemed to like and I had chocolate and clementine creme brulee.. I couldnt taste any clementine to this.As I said they were very apologetic and did take some money off the bill but underdone chicken of all things is really poor, really dissapointed and for the 45 minutes it takes to get there i wont be returning.

We visited on Saturday nite but didn't know what to expect after reading some poor recent reviews but no need to worry. Really nice decor inside with log burner in middle of room and a pianist playing making a nice atmosphere. We shared the skewers for starter and they were as good a starter as I've had then I had the duck leg and partner had bolognaise beef and cudnt fault either and shared a nice chocolate and orange brûlée for desert.Overall we had a great nite with excellent food at a reasonable price and will definitely come back.

Disappointed on entering it seems a v nice place v modern and clean but a shame the food wasn't up to scratch . My husband had a burger which is home made bit had a lot of salt in it we complained and wasn't charged . Onion rings over cooked , then my friend and I preferred a pudding to which we had to wait a while for it to arrive when I asked where the puddings were she apologised and said they were busy to which I wouldn't say it was packed out bit then immediately my friends pudding arrived I waited 15/20 mins for my trifle to arrive but it never appeared by this time my friend had eaten her pudding and mine still hadn't arrived , so I asked for the snd explained that my pudding I'd preferred hasn't come and wasn't prepared to wait any longer , the bill arrived within 2 mins and abruptly put on the table . Also plates extremely hot when the waitress brought our meals I could see she was struggling to hold the plate with a t towel so I tried to help her otherwise I think she would of dropped it all over me or on the flood but it was that hot I got hold of the plate to steady her to which I shouted out as it was so hot and I burnt both Hands so not a v good experience first appearance doesn't always count .

Have eaten here twice now and each time there were issues with the food which is such a shame as the atmosphere and decoration is all great. Really beautiful building and nicely done up.1st time we visited the steak was advertised as chargrilled and it was so burnt and bitter all you could taste was the burn. Unfortunately we then didnt see anyone so we couldnt send it back for a replacement so we just ate the chips. To be fair they acknowledged the mistake and didnt charge us.2nd time was only 2 weeks ago, the starter was satay skewers which were overdone on the outside and underdone inside, and the side salad was a really odd combination of things and had absolutely no dressing on. The other starter had the same salad but had a dressing so we think maybe they forgot it?The main was duck which was well cooked but so salty it was inedible on its own. I like quite salty food but this was just ridiculous. Eaten with lots of the sauce it was OK but I only managed about half and then ordered drink after drink to get rid of the salty mouth! Also it really needed some greens with it, as it was it was not a well thought out, rounded plate of food. The dessert was pear bakewell tart but there were no pears to be found, though we think they were meant to be on top but had been forgotten (we checked out our neighbours table and they seemed to have pears on top of theres but we couldnt be sure here). As it was it was just a dry sponge. Overall such a shame as it is a really nice place and the food could be nice but as it is, it is just not good enough, especially compared to other places nearby.

I really want to support our local pub restaurant as we live nearby. The last 2 meals we have had here were not good.. The 1st one , the sunday roast was sooooo dry and inedible, the second just before xmas day was sooooo salty was inedible and I had to leave it the other food was a real watery sauce and salty and was left. The manager was lovely and took on board our feedback, but that was it, took our money and that was it - I would have expected some feedback as it wasnt a complaint re what they might do. Worryingly, there are local people who are not posting and feel the food standard has gone down. Awful food in the past 3 months (and I'm not fussy) Want to come for the buffet on NYE as can walk, but not sure now. Come on Hobbit, you can do it

As a vegetarian, I often only get offered pasta or vegetable pie. Here there were several options and the one I chose was delicious. Will certainly come back again. My husband chose the lamb and said how good that was too.

Just been this restaurant for a evening meal. On a Sunday it only serves a carvery (when I rang to book a table they did not inform us of this) in addition to the carvery, however, was a fish option on Sea Bass - which I opted for. Upon placing my order I was informed that I would have to go up to carvery were I would get my vegetables and the fish did not come with anything except a hollandaise sauce. The vegetables at the carvery were overcooked and just about passed for warm. There was not a good selection; just the basics. Upon returning to my table with the Sea Bass I discovered that once I had turned it over, the fillets were so over cooked that they were plastic like and a discoloured yellow. Once i eventually managed to get a waitresses attention I returned my plate and advisors that I did not want a replacement. The waitress asked if I wanted a starter instead to which I agreed but was charged for when the bill came. My family members had over done meats from the carvery, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and the stuffing as hard as a tomb stone. I cannot remember the last time we had such terrible food served to us. It truly was horrific; so much so, that I have joined trip advisor just to warn others about how bad it was. With so many other great pubs and restaurants nearby it will only be a matter of time before this place goes out of business.

My husband and I had a table booked on a Friday evening. We found the staff lovely & the premises clean and decoration is really nice. They have added those ridiculous tall tables & stools in the bar area which sadly a lot of bars seem to be doing now. We had both starters & main both were cooked just right, the produce fresh......only negative I can say with our meal is that the portions were rather large. We had ordered the bread and balsamic oil as an appetiser, having loved this in other establishments we were looking forward to this. The bread was really nice however it came with a large pewter ramekin of what was surely just oil - not nice at all and I would not recommend this dish. Apart from the appetiser the only negative to our dining experience was some of the other patrons, which is not the fault of the owners. There were some large groups dining who seemed oblivious to other diners, even sitting themselves down at the end of another couples table to converse with an adjoining table, making it have a town centre feel to the evening, which was not what we were after. I will be returning for another meal with my family again fingers crossed the large party won't be there next time.

Arrived at 12:45. Told no soup left so the soup is obviously not made daily. I’m sure nobody is eating soup for breakfast so working on the assumption that lunch starts around 12, they’re either not making enough or they’re using leftovers. Ridiculously slow service. Waited 45 minutes for 2 overpriced sandwiches. Slice of cake £3.75, wafer thin. Staff surly and unwelcoming. Not a good place to eat at all.

After going here for over 25 years never again. Poor customer service, prioritise the online orders and ignore face to face customers. 4 staff in the shop and was ignored by all bar 1. The service has been steadily going down hill and tonight was the last straw. Such a shame as I like to support small local businesses who need the support.
