The New Cross House in Lewisham

The customer service is appalling. I placed an order for the lunch time deal at 3:04, and didn’t realise the deal ended at 3pm (though I had already placed an earlier drinks order at 2pm). Since I missed the cut off - it would be more pricey. I asked the attending staff, if the manager would be willing to override it at all - he said he would ask. She came down around 3:09 and bluntly said no. Fair enough. After a couple of minutes, I decided to go through with the order (with the full price cost). I had a student beans discount code, and there appeared to be some issue with the card machine accepting payment. The staff told me I should pay after my meal. After about 10 minutes, he signalled to me that I could pay now. I presented him with my discount code and he said that he could no longer use it because the order had already gone through and the company policy would not allow it (despite me not completing the payment and using my code). I said to him that it was strange since I hadn’t actually paid as of that time, so I should be able to use my code. I then explained to him that it was my first time here, and I’m not sure if I would come back, and that the managers’ approach and policies may inadvertently drive people away. He then proceeded to say that he couldn’t care less. I was in utter disbelief. So much so that I thought I must have misheard him - but I didn’t mishear anything because he said it again! Shocking. I told him that he was extremely rude! At that point, I completely stopped engaging with him. He apologised and said it had been a long day. Despite his later apology, it was clear there was a lack of concern for customer satisfaction and care. Additionally, a duplicate meal mistakenly emerged from the kitchen, further highlighting the disorganisation. While it seemed the worker was overwhelmed and needed more support, it doesn't excuse the poor treatment of customers. Regarding the random meal, the staff said we could keep it. In my opinion, it would have been better if he/the company themselves intentionally did this good will gesture, because of the horrific treatment I endured. From the looks of it, they probably wouldn’t even allow customers an additional bread crumb which they had not paid for. Also, there were 3 belligerent, drunk people who just couldn’t keep the noise down. The manager seemed to take great care of them. FYI all these shenanigans took place in the middle of the afternoon. Do I recommend? Absolutely not.

Nice pub only went in to charge my phone to have a beer there was a guy who was rude to me when I asked what beers do you have I didn't know what that was about other than that the pub look very nice and clean

Great atmosphere and cheap beer, which is surprising considering location and the quality of the building. Around the corner from goldsmiths, which is ideal for students plus they have student discounts 🤟

Had a little complaint about an extremely small portion of cold and unseasoned fries that I paid £3.50 for and the staff were rude and didn’t care about my complaint at all, they just said “there’s nothing we can do.” I would have expected at least for them to make be a fresh portion but they did not care a less. FYI “house seasoned fries on the menu” means unseasoned, small and cold.

Excellent boozer, great choice of beers and the chicken karaage is ace.

Nice place, sheltered garden, brilliant staff, although food was very greasy. Went back and tried the food again, it was fantastic, excellent pie, brilliant vege burger definitely a 5 star, so we decided to visit again. Alas, cold food. So, I guess it's very hit and miss.

Although New Cross isn't the nicest of areas to visit in London, The New Cross House is a great place within it. We watched a world cup game here and had fantastic seats. The drinks were also very well priced and it had a really friendly vibe.

Glad to see the Sunday roast menu has been vastly improved but I can’t help remembering the disappointments here. It really gripes me to think that they couldn’t have included cauliflower cheese and yorkshire puddings before. The past doesn’t forget I guess…

Nice friendly space, food wasn't exciting

Gave us barely any food, overcharged me and the whole place has been completely refurbished and changed.. No lgbtq flags despite it being a well known place for the community. Was appealing and a waste of money.

Their sweet potato fries and chicken wings are amazing. It's a shame they never have sticky toffee pudding every time I've been there.

I've been in twice since the refurbishment (which looks good!) and found it to be a mixed bag. Service varied vastly between staff - the young person serving was lovely & attentive on my first visit. On my second visit I found the person behind the bar patronising and frankly a bit odd. It's not great form to repeatedly tell someone to cheer up even when they've said they're feeling fine... Beer offering is a standard Green King affair, nice to have a pint of Northern Monk's faith for under £6 though. Food again was a mixed bag. Burger, chips and halloumi fries were of a good standard. The wings however, were bone dry, with a mere suggestion of the sauce they're advertised with, probably a GP saving device but for around a tenner I'd expect more. Don't fear the sauce!!!

Went here as the pub from outside looked decent, tried ordering pizza but had no pizza dough left, then asked for a Cheese and bacon or katsu curry burger but also had no burgers, so was left with the BBQ chicken which cost £17, it was one small piece of chicken with burger cheese microwaved on top, the side of chips was 10 chips as shown in photo and onion rings were cold and definitely re heated.

I love this place. The vibe, the food and the drinks are perfect. I hightly recommend! If you want a good summer beer, take the Juber cut with peach, delicious!!!!

The place is OK but the cocktails… I advise you stick with beer! I had a margarita and is was repulsive. £8.50 in the drain!

We spent our Sunday in London at the New Cross House, and it was absolutely the best time we had in London. The drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. The food was reasonably priced and delicious as well. I had the roast beef, and it was cooked perfectly. My friend had the fish and chips, and that was cooked to perfection! After our lunch, we spent the next few hours hanging out and drinking and the staff amazing! They were so nice and friendly! It was a wonderful experience!

This place is right in the middle of New Cross and New Cross gate stations and has plenty of seating including indoors, outdoors and a cute extra building! They offer pizza which we didn’t try but loved the decor, the pride flag painting and the decent prices! A great place for a cute drink and catchup ✨

I had the lunch special of rib eye burger .... If was served with skin on chips very nice burger, at one point I did wonder how it would fit in my mouth ... My friend ordered the pizza and it was massive fresh and light . Staff where extremely helpful Charlie , Tom where very accommodating as they got my order wrong ... And were so helpful and professional . Great place lovely spacing and plug points and booth are available. Lovely decor and really close to the New cross gate train station. .... Visit !!!!

Nice lil place to go and grab a bite or catch up on some work. The food tasted nice, I got a margherita pizza and chunky chips. only negative comment was that the food order got backed up, so we had to wait for our order to be placed. It's very child friendly, so it could be noisy at times.

This is a nice pub and the guy behind the bar was really nice and knowledgeable about the beer that they had - however I think the pizza game is really lacking - I would have ordered a burger if I knew this is what they were like.

However, they deliberately serve the veggie burger with *less chips* than the meat ones. As confirmed by the barman. Poor

What a lovely place. Spacious, good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is an outdoor area in the back. Also the food is affordable and above standard pub food. Due to the large room it can get quite noisy. Also there are regularly art exhibitions on the walls and I like that there are mostly students coming here, also a majority of the pub staff are students, which I find quite refreshing.

Great food, great staff - shout out to Daya who is fabulous and so helpful. Large Sunday Roasts, great quality and quick service highly recommended- definitely worth a visit

Went to the New Cross to meet some friends that had booked the garden covered floor. I have to say it was such a great decision . Covered & heated. Staff is super friendly, pizza is yummy and prices aren't that bad. Cocktails are good and they have a good range of beers. Perfect spot to get together before the night kicks off! I will be coming back for sure!

A very cozy café. We spent several hours here and felt very comfortable. The coffee is good and affordable. Very nice ambience.

We have been coming for our Christmas party for seven years. It was an extremely busy night, however, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Happy smiley faces all round. The food this year was the best ever. In fact there was so much, we had it boxed up to take home. Thank you for looking after us and I'm looking forward to next year!

We have been coming every year for 7 years and as expected its always a winner this year was the best. Efficient smiling staff clearly under pressure but never tainted the quality of the service. Good banter bouncy happy vibes and can't wait til next year. Definitely worth the trip from Bristol!

Used to love the ambiance of this place after they refurbished it, but after our recent visit the whole experience was underwhelming. Pricey for a pub lunch, with poor quality food. (Better quality and variety on Deptford High Street just a short walk away.) We came here for lunch, and they must have just fired up the heating since the night before. The pub was bitterly cold to the point where we sat in our winter coats throughout. The Prosecco glasses were of questionable cleanliness. My dishwasher does a better job at home. The G&T, however, had to be sent back as it had remnants of the previous patron’s Bloody Mary. The pizza was brought out 5minutes before the rest of the meals. Apart from spinach leaves barely anything on it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The local cafe does a better job with timing the meals. The chips were nice, but the fish was disappointing. There was no toilet paper in the ladies with no heating there either. 🥶 We paid £90 for three people, three meals (pizza, 2x fish and chips), three alcoholic drinks and two hot drinks. Felt robbed. The whole experience felt very sorry. We ended up inviting our guests back to our house to warm up and enjoy a warm drink.

We recently had our staff Christmas do at New Cross House and it was great! The staff were really friendly and attentive and the Christmas package we pre-ordered was great value and the food was really tasty! Would definitely recommend! Thanks again New Cross House! ☺️

This is probably my favorite bar in New Cross. I always come here for the vibe of the place, and the staff is awesome. They also do some great events, though I have not managed to check them out yet. Recently I threw a surprise Birthday party for my roommate, very much last minute. The staff sorted me out with a large table right away, were kind about not everyone being on time, and Ellie from service, and Dylan, Alle and Errol from the bar did a wonderful job of putting some candles I brought on a dessert and coming over to help us celebrate. (it was a very much last minute birthday thing… like 3 hours before) Thanks for a great night guys! See ya there soon.

Came here to watch the football - good pub, pretty reasonably priced and great setup for watching sport. Pizzas were nice too. Would definitely come back again, good pub

Had an amazing time in the stables with my friends , we got pizzas and some other bits and they were all delicious, great staff and will definitely be coming back to watch the World Cup matches

Relaxed modern rustic (is that a thing?) establishment with really great food and drink and good vibes. We had an outstanding vegan pizza and tofu dish but if dead animals are your thing they do that too.

Pub is lovely for a drink but do not eat here! The pizza is OK but the rest is tasteless and so expensive for what it is. Lovely to stop by for a drink but eat elsewhere.

A really really wonderful local pub! My favorite watering hole in New Cross, by far. Super flexible reservations and a perfect spot for a cute lil birthday celebration. Staff are outstanding and I love that you can tip at the paypoint because they really deserve it. Food has always been excellent as well, especially pizzas and burgers!

Great pub with a warm, cosy atmosphere, and friendly staff. Great range of beers too! I almost gave 4 stars because my bottle of Corona cost close to 5 quid, and I probably expected a lot less in an area full of students, and not particularly close to Central London, but then again, I rarely buy bottled beer in London pubs, so I should imagine that this is just the new norm of prices in the city's watering holes...

I’ve been here once or twice prior to COVID but recently visited again. I couldn’t believe how lovely the pub was, the restaurant area is fab and the outside space is beautiful!! The manager, Carly was so lovely.. as were the rest of the team of course! But she went above and beyond to ensure our order was correct and checked up to make sure we were ok. So many drinks to choose from and the food was to die for!! I can’t wait to come back again.. and am desperate to try the festive menu 😝

Where to start.... Love that my Bella (dog) is able to visit this beautiful establishment to enjoy the amazing food on offer. A bowl of water was offered to ensure she was comfortable whilst visiting. I love that she was treated as one of the party. The food is immense. My diet definitely went out the window as I devoured my tiger prawn linguini, helped a friend with their pizza and I wasn't able to refuse the desert menu either... the dark chocolate brownie is a little taste of heaven! The manager Carly popped over to our table to ensure everything was OK with our meals which was a very welcoming touch. We will definitely be back to enjoy the vibrant surroundings as well as the very friendly and accommodating staff.

The ambience and decor of this place is seriously amazing. I have not been in an establishment quite like this, comforting yet quirky, friendly and relaxed. The staff are second to none and seem to have the right balance of keeping in tune with the tables needs but equally allowing space to enjoy the evening. Food was beautiful. I love the homemade pizzas. The manager introduced herself as Carly and asked was everything OK with our stay. A very nice personal touch. Will most definitely be back to try the variety of gins available 😊

I came in over the weekend and It was such a great experience, the food was amazing, the pizza especially , and the staff were so fun and lovely and made our time really enjoyable. I absolutely love this place! Everyone is so welcoming especially the new GM. I had a lovely conversation with her and she seems just right for the place -staff and customers love her. The food is delish but the pizza is to die for! I can't wait to be back

This place is amazing, walked in and felt right at home! The service was awesome and the food was tasty, I’d recommend the calzone pizza if you’re having trouble choosing. They also had some great vegan options which were very tempting. I noticed the pub is dog friendly, so will definitely be back with the pup very soon!

Brilliant little place and you would never know it had a delicious wood burning pizza. I visit every Sunday for a dance class in their private venue section upstairs. Snacks are always on point, staff could not do more to help and the food looks fabulous! Recommend!

Staff were lovely, nice chicken wings and drinks. Cool that they have lgbtq+ flags and right next to Goldsmiths for students. Worth a visit!

Nice atmosphere and well decorated. We had a roast which was good. There was no applesauce for the pork roast which was a shame and the roast selection was a bit different on the online menu than the menu on the day. Also its on the slightly expensive side for the area its in. I wouldn't recommend for students but otherwise it was good.

Very disappointing experience here. We booked two tables to celebrate my bday in the garden (which we specified) and were never told that the garden had been closed for refurbishments. We called to let them know that we were late and arrived to find that 1. The garden was closed and 2. They hadn't even reserved our tables inside. When we tried to order drinks and food, they basically didn't have most stuff in the menu. They got our drink orders wrong and came to the table to let us know that the mistake was ours (it wasn't and we could prove it, fortunately). We ordered a platter that never arrived and we're pretty sure we still paid for it. The staff approached me (even though I was wearing a crown so I was obviously the bday person) to ask me if I wanted the cakes now or later, thus spoiling my surprise. Even though we ordered large rounds of drinks, it took them a while to make them and we were sat by the bar, the staff failed to let us know that our drinks were ready most of the times. Food came without cutlery and napkins, which we had to source ourselves (as well as toilet paper when we used the restroom). All of this even though the pub was empty. Most of my friends and I have a lot of experience working in hospitality and we could tell that the place was totally unmanaged that day - it showed and it was quite disappointing. Today, for some reason, we get a message from them letting us know that "our reservation has been cancelled". It's all a bit of a mess, no? If a manager wishes to get in touch, I'm very happy to discuss this feedback with them.

First of all, we have been coming here for years because we usually enjoy it, however…. We came (with a reservation) 12 people to celebrate a birthday. Our table wasn’t ready and no one had been informed the garden was closed despite asking for a table in the garden. We were given zero service, no one informed us our drinks were ready, we waited 30min for just fries. Our last round of drinks did not taste nearly as good as the first ones. And the attitude was bad the entire evening. Finally our surprise cake was ruined when the server asked the birthdaygirl if they should bring it in now?! Whilst we had a great evening, it was not thanks to but despite the service here.

What a friendly place, replete with coolth and a fine selection of value alcohol. I've washed up on these beaches a couple of times and it always surprises and refreshes.

Went in for lunch. Greeted by a friendly bartender who took our orders. By lunch date ordered fish cakes as a starter which didn’t taste fresh. For main we both ordered king prawn linguine. When they plates arrives there were many more king prawns on one plate that the other. The linguini was very dry and bland lacking any kind of sauce or seasoning. Definitely not worth the £33 we paid for them both. We wouldn’t return here for food.

A very nice, very relaxed place. Went there on a Wednesday afternoon-evening while it was still sunny and it honestly felt more like a bar in a holiday destination rather than a pub in London. They do a 2-1 cocktail offer which is nice.

We have been there few times as we are local and the happy hour 2x1 cocktail offer is attractive. Yesterday, tired from a long day, we decided to give their burguers a go....I'm sure you can find rocks in Namibias dessert less dry than those shoe outsole which they call "burguer". Besides the unpleasant feeling of chewing compacted sand or cardboard each time we bit that thing, it was the added "fries issue". No matter how long I wasted trying to look for the skin on the fry, it wasn't, and skin on fry was advised on the menu. They were instead low quality chippy shop fries with enough salt to dangerously rise an elephant arterial pressure. Cold Cider and beer were helpful to ease our numb-dry mouth and our swollen lips. Really friendly bar staff though. Stick to the drinks, avoid burguers. If you want to get one, better go to the Rose Pub which is just a few metres down the road.

Lovely place for drinks great beer garden and awesome service...very chilled in the heart of the city. I was welcomed by Simon and my dog was no issue and even got a treat. The air con was great and plenty of shade outside of you needed it to. I will return to try more pizza.
