No food No guest lounge No bar Does not quality as a 3 star hotel 1 star at best See all the other poor reviews , no wonder it's cheap in the week

Tired worn out Hotel , read reviews before booking … both good and bad points . Carpets look like they have been installed 100 years ago . Shower did not work properly and when we complained we were fobbed off

Hotel was nothing fancy but clean & good value for money. There was a microwave & fridge in the room which was a nice surprise. Lady on reception was very polite & helpful. Bed was nice & comfy so slept well. The only downfall was the awful view from the room. It was the other side of the building that was being renovated & only a metre from our window. And considering we paid to ungrade the room we thought we would’ve had better.

We booked this place for a trip down memory lane having met at a dinner and dance in the hotel 50 years ago. We only stayed one night and weren't sure what to expect. The welcome was good. The room clean, tidy and spaceous. The kitchens were closed but there was plenty of crockery, glasses, a microwave and a fridge in the room for eating in. But with so many restaurants in the area we didn't need to eat in. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but okay for one night.

Booked for an impromptu weekend break. We were a little sceptical given the price of £75 but needn’t have been. Parked within a two minute walk of the hotel which is right in the town centre. The young chap on reception was so friendly and very polite, he is a credit to this hotel. Lovely old building with some interesting features like old vehicles dotted about . Our room was off the courtyard at the back of the main building and was huge. It had everything we needed and appeared to have been thoughtfully laid out. Storage to hang clothes, desk, full size, under-counter fridge, TV etc. there was also a microwave, plates, bowls and knives and forks - probably for people staying a number of nights and needing to be able to prepare a ready meal. The en suite was very clean, nice fluffy towels etc. plentiful hot water. There’s not much more to say really… Was it high end luxury …. No Did it have bells and whistles …. No Champagne, canapés and room service …. No But ……. Who care because …. Well located …. Absolutely Warm, friendly and polite welcome …. Absolutely Clean, warm, spacious room ….absolutely Everything we needed …. Absolutely Highly competitively priced …. WITHOUT A DOUBT A well known, budget, large chain hotel would have been £45 more. No disrespect to said large chain hotels but The New County Hotel felt as though it had a heart Thank you for our lovely stay, we’ll be back xx

there seems to be a lot of people making home in this hotel and it constantly smells of cannabis and music blasts out. and this was 5 o'clock in the afternoon. had to leave as this was not a safe environment for me or my 9yr old. the fact reception let this happen as well is beyond me. stayed in a lot of hotel in my life time and never experienced anything like this. needless to say customer service felt this didnt warrant a refund think that says it all about how this hotel is managed.

A group of us booked this hotel because it was in walking distance of an event we were attending and looked okay from the pictures on the website. I was the first to arrive and the shabby exterior and entrance should have given me a hint of what was to come. The interior is incredibly dated which would not have been an issue if it had been well maintained. However, the carpets are threadbare, there were chips, cracks in the walls, the furniture was ripped, the windows were filthy and there was an awful smell of something rotting - and all this before I reached my room! I was allocated room 5 (standard) and was horrified. It was tiny, had shabby carpets, cracks / marks on the wall, lights falling off the wall, water marked furniture and when I sat on the bed it was so hard it felt as if they had forgotten to put the mattress on it. The bathroom was no better and when I turned the tap on brown sludgy water spluttered out from the tap all over me. Luckily I wasn’t wearing my party outfit at that point! I was told this was because they had just installed a new boiler - it’s a shame no one thought to run the water before guests arrived. I complained at reception and was given a different room although unfortunately there were no other rooms available to upgrade the rest of the party. However based on the fact that the person who made the booking had already been upgraded it wouldn’t have made much difference as their new room was not much better. Interestingly, my new room (also standard remember) was like a palace compared to room 5. The dressing area you walked into was bigger than the whole of room 5 and the bedroom had a four poster bed with a comfortable mattress. The walls and furniture were still shabby but nowhere near as bad as room 5. I took the room as I had already checked and failed to find alternative accommodation but also thought the rest of the party could probably share my room if it came to it! I am only rating a 1 (0 not an option) as the staff were as helpful as they could be although obviously used to dealing with complaints. Avoid at all cost

I read a handful of bad reviews prior to staying at this hotel, mainly mentioning that it was nothing like the description and photos... my God they where right! Freezing cold rooms with little help from the front desk when asking for another electric heater or some solution. Old dated furnishing, water damaged bathrooms and no parking for a reasonable price. DO NOT go here, especially if you are a worker.

Check-in was pretty quick, and the young lady very helpful. But the room was absolutely freezing cold. And they don't have 'phones in the rooms or offer wake up calls (a real problem that night as I'd left my 'phone and needed to be up early!) he bed was adequate, and on the plus side there was a kettle, a 'fridge and a microwave in my courtyard room. But I'd avoid C15 as a room, given how darned cold it was!

Went in for the £9.95 dinner special and had a choice of 2 courses. Meal was excellent and the service from Kelvin was exceptional. It was a busy night & he was run off his feet but he still managed to give us great service with a smile. 5 stars for Kelvin who served us & the chef I think was John who prepared such a great meal, perfectly cooked & presented.

The room we had was very lovely, very clean and comfortable, well equipped and the location was handy seeing it was in the main city centre. The only thing I was a bit annoyed about was when booking it specified that it was a soundproofed room, yet the doors were very heavy and difficult to open/Close therefore with the other rooms around us we were kept awake listening to them going in and out until about 12am! Also found it was very unusual that there was no one on reception, but a lady in the bar who was on her own most of the day!

Do not stay here unless you're on a stag or hen do! If I could give this lower than one star I would. Our room looked out over the busy main street and the noise from crowds of people on their nights out, taxis, street cleaning vehicles and club music kept us awake until 4:30am. The room is more basic than I'd expect for the price and there were no breakfast facilities. The pillows are like a sack of potatoes and the place could do with an intensive clean! The lady on reception was friendly so deserves a mention.

Booked our Christmas do here £24.99 per head for a 3 course. The function room had our booking plus 3 others, a small bar area, dance floor & disco. Tables were laid nice with festive decorations. Food was good quality, hot, & portioned well. I thought it was a great touch staff wore xmas jumpers & got into the festive spirit. Some of the staff even got up & danced the macarana...priceless. Some drinks were a little pricy. Toilets were very clean. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this night. Great effort by all

a friend from abroad was visiting and I booked her into this hotel, she had a huge room which was light airy and clean with ensuite bathroom. the reception staff friendly and informative. we had drinks/snacks here which were reasonably priced. she says the breakfast was excellent. I think she paid about £110 for B&B for 2 nights. conveniently situated amongst the main Gloucester shopping area, plenty of historical buildings in locality.

Room was OK, clean and presentable. There is NO hotel parking and you have to use the pay & display behind the hotel. The free WiFi was inaccessible and the bed (for me) was uncomfortable. Didn't pay alot so didn't expect alot and didn't get alot. Staff were helpful & friendly though. Would I recommend it... probably not.

we had saturday afternoon lunch here and were extremely disappointed with the quality of food. Averaging around a tenner for a main course you would expect reasonably good food but w hat we were served was pretty poor. The fish and chips consisted of a strangely yellow fleshed fish (when i asked what it was got little response) not a bigportion either with frozen chips and some crushed frozen peas. my husband had chicken burger and the said frozen chips. burger was real chicken but measly with a slice of tomato in a bun that was it. chips tasted of fish for both of us so obviously using the same fryer for both. we did state that we were disappointed to the waitress who looked embarrassed and didnt really offer much of an apology. shame as in a good spot . wont be returning

Last night (10/08/13) I and my family checked the website for the menu then suitably impressed we rang and booked a table. We turned up early and were shown to our table in a nearly empty restaurant, despite it being Saturday night in August. We were then presented with menus, which is when it all started to unravel. The website showed a smart hotel and restaurant serving decidely gourmet food. The menu was an A3 laminated affair listing dishes that bore no resemblance to the website menus and hovered perilously close to "good pub grub" territory. I enquired, thinking i had somehow got the wrong menu, but no this was it. The duty manager tried to explain that they had had some new chefs and lost some, and had reduced the menu because people had complained that it was too long!! so they reduced it to the peoples favourites. In the end we went elsewhere disappointed that a promising new restaurant in Gloucester, which decidedly needs some where good to dine had just given up and dropped its standards so dramatically.

Terrible Experience - Never Coming Back it wasn’t the bars staff fault I recently visited High Orchard and spent £50 on what turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. From start to finish, the service and food were completely unacceptable. The food arrived stone cold, and we waited ages for cutlery. In the end, we had to go and find our own cutlery and sauces. My friend ordered a burger, which came without the sauce he had paid extra for, adding to the frustration. When I spoke to the manager, he did offer fresh chips, which were fine, but that didn’t make up for the overall experience. My friend also ordered cheesy chips but was given a bowl of plain chips with cheese on the side. That’s not what we expected for the price. When I finally started eating my korma, the chicken was rubbery and completely inedible. It was one thing after another. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. £50 wasted, and we will absolutely not be coming back.
