Today was the first time I've come away disappointed. We had a cup of tea and an americano which were fine but i noticed - and remarked upon- that the size of the chocolate cake had been almost halved. It did however remain THE SAME PRICE. i did get a slice for my husband as we had come especially from Newent (we come almost every week) for tea and cake. I guess i was already disgruntled as i decided to forego my 'much smaller than usual' piece of cake and go hungry. When the drinks arrived there were none of the usual biscuits that we so enjoy to accompany them. I was told they had run out. When i commented on the size of the cake and the fact that it should have been accordingly cheaper, i was told there was a mistake in the cutting. As i said, i left very disappointed today....and we were good customers.

Disappointed to see they had the same menu as last year and still overpriced. The Original restaurant area now a craft and interior designer outlet with a smaller restaurant seating area inside..Tables outside but only 2 with umbrellas...Set in lovely grounds but just an average coffee stop.

Hurray! Was very pleasantly surprised to see cheese and chive scones available again. We love them. Had a nice chat with the lady chef and she explained why they had been an interruption in supply. Service is much more attentive now and the coffee is extremely good. We walked part of this fabulous site which is populated by rows of soft fruit trees, unspoilt woodland and wild nature. My grandson loved it. I would highly recommend a visit, by young and old alike. David Wall

As others have said in their reviews, it really has gone downhill regards the food and service. The bacon is served I would say undercooked, just shown the pan briefly, toast is never toasted we always have to either send it back to be shown the grill properly or we ask for it to be well toasted when we order knowing what it’s like. The wait time is ridiculous! If I was the owner I would be looking at the chief!! The only positive is the nice environment, dog friendly and the garden centre next door.

Love the Nest and the garden centre is superb as are staff, but why can’t the chef cook a decent price of bacon !? It’s routinely undercooked and fatty. It’s never cooked fresh and clearly has been sat sweating in a warm tray. I had the French toast with bacon and it was quite simply unappetising. Other meals wirh bacon the same. I like the place but won’t touch the breakfast for this reason. Focus on basics.

Having been coming here once every couple of months for as long as it has been open, food always very good. Have noticed over the last few visits that the service is getting slower and slower and definitely lacks organisation- I work in this industry so I fully appreciate its complexities. This weekends visit was the slowest it has ever been, a 20 minute wait for 2 takeaway coffees, we were the only ones in the take away Q. Later after a walk and a trip to the plant centre we waited 45 minutes for 2 portions of quiche and salad. The coffee and the food are excellent, yes you have increased your prices but who hasn’t- you have to make a profit and margins are very very tight these days. What is really letting you down at the moment is the service, you have a friendly young team but they do need organising.

Was very impressed by their cheese and chive scones at 2 recent visits last month. Sadly, no cheese and chive scones available at our last 2 visits, which was a big disappointment. Not the end of the world but would have been nice to see them on the counter today. Alas no. Will probably give you a miss for a few weeks and check you have them before going next time. Otherwise the site and overall experience is very good. But still disappointed today.

A nice place for a relaxing stop, particularly if the weather's nice and you can sit outside at the back. Food and coffee are good, but a bit pricey. Annoying that you can't order without a table number if you sit inside; although they probably do this as the eating areas are separate (in the summer at least).

Coffee and cake at The Nest today. I’m a regular at The Nest and everything is always great there but today I had the best cake I’ve ever eaten in my life (and I’ve eaten a few as I’m a cakeaholic!) The cake in question is a delicious lemon and blueberry sponge.! Lovely tart lemon and blueberry balancing perfectly with the sweet-but-not-too-sweet cream cheese topping! The lovely lady who made it deserves a Hollywood Handshake. My first trip advisor review - that’s how good it is. Go try it!

Everything was served to perfection the sausages, black pudding and bacon were so tasty and the scrambled eggs the best ever. All the staff were cheerful polite and helpful. This is the first time we have tried this cafe & we certainly were not disappointed, we will be returning. Next time we are in the area for sure. From the moment we entered the cafe to the time we left the staff were friendly & efficient. We had the full English breakfasts, very generous portions & excellent quality ingredients which were cook3d to perfection. I especially liked the bacon & home made beans. I had a coffee & my other half she had a hot chocolate which were also excellent. Due to the breakfast size portion my other half struggled to eat all of hers, so I had to step in, not that I minded, but may be worth considering a smaller size breakfast for those that prefer a less hearty feast. All in all a great experience & look forward to a repeat performance soon.

After placing our orders inside we went outside to sit under the umbrellas to eat and drink, a member of staff came out to explain we were not allowed to sit outside on these tables but had to move to the orchard and the wet seats in the rain. The outside area was not busy, almost everyone else was under cover. This all seemed a bit crazy and unwelcoming, so I sat and finished my cake, which was good, and my flat white which was rubbish. I should have suspected something was wrong when I saw three different coffee types being made from the same jug of milk. Based on my experience today, I can’t recommend the Nest, but maybe a dose of common sense and some coffee training would fix that

... other than to suggest that sometimes you reap what you sow. We’ve been to The Nest a couple of times since lockdown and had an excellent experience... different than before but still excellent. Maybe that’s the point... we just can’t expect to wander in when it suits us and be accommodated in the same way as we may have been before... these poor guys need to keep table gaps, do extra cleaning and phase seating in order to protect us customers from ourselves. So we need to play by the rules and help them to provide us with the decent experience they want to provide. So, after a couple of great recent visits we chose to have brunch at The Nest today before lockdown phase 2. We rang up yesterday to book a table... because that’s what they ask you to do to be sure if getting one. All efficiently sorted. Upon arrival today we were taken to our table by a pleasant young lady who returned soon after to take our order. Food and drink delivered with no real delay despite the place being quite busy... we were clearly not the only ones to have decided to visit before our incarceration. Our meals were really good and tasty... as usual. My coffee had flavour without bitterness and the accompanying biscuit was really good.Attentive service, good food and drink, pleasant location... can’t wait for lockdown to end so that we can start going again. In the meantime, will probably try out their takeaway offering whilst recognising the limitations placed upon them by the current circumstances. Good work guys, take care!

Living only a couple of miles away, we used to love popping in to The Nest for coffee and a nibble, but today, for the first time ever, we didn't feel welcome. We were the only customers there (it was 9am), but we were treated as if the place was packed - we were directed to sit at a particular table (no 10) the location of which we didn't like, so we chose to move to one by the window. My husband was told (in an officious manner) to put on a mask - which he did - as we walked the 5m from the entrance gate to the table because of "the new rules that came out this week" which is not true - the gov.uk website states "Face coverings are not required in restaurants with table service, bars and pubs." The staff member returned to our table no fewer than 4 times in the short time we were there to ask whether our toast was OK/whether we needed anything/whether she could get us some more drinks/whether we were ready to pay - each time without a single smile ...it wasn't solicitous, and made us feel as if we were somehow in the way. Such a shame. It was actually quite upsetting, and we won't be back any time soon. PS I've only just see the recent reviews that echo mine ... good to know it's not just us:-)

I have visited here 4 times since lockdown has lifted and on each occasion I have had the same experience - downright rude, unfriendly and unhelpful staff! You get told off for going the wrong way and doing things the wrong way (when it’s not evident what the right way is) and there are no smiles or friendliness at all from the older front of house members of staff. The younger ones are far better in my opinion - the owner would be far better off having them as front of house rather than the dragons that appear to be in charge. The cakes are generally delicious and I could forgive a shambolic and disorganised experience if there was a sense of friendliness from the place, but I’ve come to the conclusion that customers are viewed as an inconvenience. So I am no longer be willing to part with 13 quid for 4 slices of cake and a small bottle of lemonade at The Nest and will take my custom elsewhere...

Like the previous writer we have been to the Nest more times than I can remember and given good reviews in the last. How that has changed twice in the last two weeks we have gone to be ignored totally. First time after waiting and then attracting the attention of one of the staff I was given the runaround to eventually be told they were only doing take away. Give them the benefit of the doubt perhaps a bad day but again totally ignored and so for a second time we left dissatisfied. We have been customers since the Nest opened and prior to that the Egg Shed where the scotch eggs are made. Taking that into account and the fact we have had several conversations with the owners over the years I thought I would send an email giving some feedback so the matters could be addressed. They didn’t even have the courtesy to reply. Businesses with this type of attitude do not deserve to be in business so will I go back, no and I would not recommend this establishment to anyone

For sometime this has been a favourite place for good coffee. The new outdoor covered area is an excellent facility during these difficult times. We have always been well treated, politely and quickly served until our last visit. On this occasion we were curtly told as we had not booked we could not be served coffee although only two of the several outside tables were occupied. We said we would only staying a short period and were prepared to go if a table that had been booked was required, very reluctantly were given a table and told there would be a wait for our coffee. The coffee was of the usual high standard 5*, however the service was distinctly cold and unfriendly. A number of other potential customers were turned away (just walking back to their cars) although there was clearly ample outdoor seating. If you do not wish to just serve coffee this should be clearly stated, rather than the pretence of having to book.We shall hope for better treatment on our next visit or it will be our last.

This was our first outing after lockdown and we were a bit nervous. However there was no need, they've got it cracked. They are using the area at the front of the usual restaurant, this has been extended and named the Veranda - it is all under cover but open at the sides. We had booked and were taken to our table when we arrived - all safely distanced. We had a paper menu each which was thrown away afterwards. The specials were on a blackboard which was brought to near our table. When our food arrived it was brought, covered, on a tray. The cover was removed and we took our plates off the tray. All very safe. The food was of the usual high standard. We will be happy to return.

This was our first outing to an eating place since the lockdown. The owners have made a special effort by extending the outside veranda to accommodate about 8 to 9 tables. One has to book in advance and pay a deposit. The food and the welcome was as good as ever and with our daughter and 3 grandchildren we felt perfectly safe. Thankyou The Nest for a lovely lunch, very special scotch eggs, and an enjoyable afternoon.

Visited yesterday understood there had to be guidelines which when explained were a little confusing and disjointed frustrated when told should have selected shopping from the deli etc before queuing to order food- queue was really long with people queuing for food We did want to order food but such a hot day didn’t want food from deli to be out of refrigeration! Think there should be a separate till for farm shop! Food arrived very promptly although queued some time to order sandwich scotch egg salad lovely - pecan loaf was disgusting was given an end piece which I believe was the last piece which I struggled to break in half looks like it had been hanging around for quite some time! Didn’t complain as wasn’t prepared to have to stand in the queue again perhaps there should be 2 people serving at the till and 1 less walking around with cardboard boxes! On the other hand the orchard was beautiful we sat under a damson tree with our dog enjoying the sun will return but please look at the quality of cake or colleagues digression as to what’s an acceptable standard to serve !

After working at the hospital all morning treated my 4 year old daughter to an ice cream at the nest. We were both more than 2 metres away, had masks, gloves....unlike the member of staff who came out looked at us as though we were dirt, shooed my little girl away and barked at her ‘get back’. My daughter cried and asked what she’d done wrong. When I complained I got no apology just an excuse that it was a hot day. Used to go to so many events at the nest and support them. Never again. This isn’t the first time I’ve had miserable staff but it will be the last.

We weren’t expecting to have tapas when we arrived for lunch, in the depths of Herefordshire, but wanting to taste a range of the scotch eggs the Spanish tapas theme, hit the mark. Well complemented with chutney, pesto and coleslaw, we really enjoyed our meal. Finishing with a more traditional cake and coffee, rounded things off nicely.

Me and my wife eat here regularly because it is unpretentious, friendly and welcoming. The food and drink is where possible locally sourced (Herefordshire) and nicely presented always with a smile from the staff. We thinks it is great value and also very importantly dog friendly. Whilst there we invariably buy from goods from the farm shop and visit the excellent Newent Plant Centre immediately next door.

1st visit to this garden centre and cafe - the coffee was superb and a huge slice of chocolate spinge which was probably the lightest I have ever had. First class service.

Visited the Nest on Saturday and enjoyed a lovely coffee with friends followed by a browse through the farm shop where we were spoiled for choice by the wonderful array of local produce and foodstuffs. Bought some of the exquisite macarons for presents. All of the staff are so friendly and welcoming- it is clearly a pleasure to work there.

Having previously been to the best on many occasions and had beautiful food, this last time was dreadful. It’s such a shame to see it cutting corners like this. I ordered a salad that I shears had and that used to be abundant with roasted veg, salmon, seeds, coleslaw & leaves. This last visit I received a bowl of leaves and some salmon flopped on top for £8.95. No coleslaw or seeds roasted veg. When I told the waitress she was rude & unhelpful and begrudgingly brought over a small pot of coleslaw. My husband ordered a Welsh rarebit which was soggy and mushy like it had been done in the microwave. Dreadful food now at high prices with rude staff. I’ll no longer be a patron of the the nest! Go to the malthouse in Ledbury for good food!

We love this place, casual and quirky. Unfortunately I’m unable to eat eggs and find unless I have a sandwich/toastie, soup or salad I don’t have much choice. I use to love the salads but they are now mixed up in a bowl which I have tried but would rather it was laid out in a plate like it used to be. Having said that my husband loves anything “eggy” so no complaints there. This is my personal dislike but please could we have a “plated” portioned salad like it was before.

This place has grown so much over the last 5 years, the restaurant has really expanded so much. The salads are really quite good and very good value for the price, as are the home made scotch eggs, the menu is quite extensive so something for everyone. The Nest also has a deli section which to be fair sells some quite good produce, they also sell Peter Cooks bread, a local bakery, this is where the Nest lets itself down, a few times twice now I have bought bread assuming that it was fresh that day only to find when arriving back home that this is not the case. Peters bread keeps very well for a few days once bought so if the Nest want to sell bread that is not fresh that day I do think they should make the purchaser aware that it is not fresh bread of the day and price the bread accordingly.

This is one of my regular places to visit for brunch, lunch or tea and it never fails to deliver despite expanding and getting busier. They have a great orchard to walk the dog and you can take your dog in if its good. Staff are amazing and the best coffee around.

By and large the service was lovely, only one woman was a bit off, but the rest were lovely and it speaks volumes that there was a 'rest' that there was a good amount of staff so food came quickly. The food was good and the restaurant is quirky with a good atmosphere.

My partner and I visited The Nest for the first time yesterday as we have 2 x 9-week old Goldendoodle puppies and heard it was dog friendly. We wanted to socialise the pups around people and we couldn't have found a better place to have a coffee and carrot cake. The carrot cake was huge and very moist and the frosting on top was at least half an inch thick. It was the best carrot cake we have ever eaten. The capuccino coffee was wonderful and I'd love to know what coffee they use. It was hot and frothy with chocolate sprinkled on top and even a biscuit on the side. The lovely young girl who served us noticed our puppies and asked if they'd like a drink of water and a large bowl of water for them was brought out. She even brought over a chair to rest it on to save me having to hold the bowl. None of which was requested by us so a very thoughtful young lady. The service was quick and we can't wait go back again.

Afree reading excellent reviews decided to call in on our way home. Well it was extremely average. A scotch egg is a scotch egg whether it come from asda or this little cafe. Expensive fir what I had and certainly nothing special. The owner thinks everybody will adore it a bit like jeremy Corbin. Boris forever love boris. Anyway a touch of champagne socialists seem to running this cafe.

We stopped here for a snack on our way home from a short break in North Wales. They had a choice of gluten free cake but, on that particular day, did not have anything that was gluten AND dairy free for which they apologised. However, they went out of their way to find something for me and I had toast and honey and they had soya milk for my pot of tea. Other people were eating lunch around us and the food looked excellent.. Would definitely recommend The Nest as the staff went out of their way to be helpful, there was a good gluten free choice of food and the food that I saw others eating looked fabulous.

Booked an evening meal whilst staying in log cabin near by. Large portions of home cooked food, quick service and friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced, in fact we were surprised and were expecting to pay more for the quality. The decor is lovely as well, quite cozy on an autumn evening. Just dropped in on spec for a lunchtime meal. Excellent service, very friendly staff, delicious food and great value. As of October 2024 you'll get a good sized meal for about a tenner. Good choice of ales etc. Location is perfect for visiting the cathedral and city. If you need an EV charger there's one about 100 meters up the road.

One of the best warm sausage rolls I have ever had! And I can make excellent sausage rolls. Lovely display of pies and pastries, friendly staff, seating outside. I am a visitor to Hereford and wished I lived closer. Excellent!
