Lovely pub situated next to the canal, my husband and i popped in for a bit to eat, we had the bbq chicken baguette and the tuna melt baguette both came with chips, salad and coleslaw, very tasty and enjoyable. It could be seen as ‘pricey’ but i feel your paying for a nice location, good quality homemade food and very friendly service. I have read a previous review regarding the parking and entering your vehicle reg into a device, but to be fair there are signs up in the carpark stating this, i suppose it’s to stop people from using the carpark and strolling down the canal for a walk, taking parking spots from the customers of the pub. Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning. The pub is very welcoming of dogs and children (a fantastic little play area in the well maintained beer garden).

Awful service and worse atmosphere, we rarely get to visit our 92 year old grandad and when we do we like to take him out for a nice traditional meal. We tried the navigation expecting decent English food as the reviews seemed good. It was absolutely awful, they put us in a back room alone which absolutely stank of mold, the food was mediocre at best. I almost fell over when we received the bill of £120 for four people for what we got, they charged extra for everything, our grandad ordered steak pie and it came with hardly any gravy, he asked for more and they charged an extra £2.50, we waited ages for service and it all tasted like pre packed frozen crap. The homemade chips were nice but I've had better food and service in wetherspoons. Such a letdown on what should have been a good occasion.

The Navigation Inn sub contracts it parking space to the infamous Parkingeye, and when entering into the bar area to purchase food and drink no one tells you that there is a parking charge if you dont enter your car registration. If there is any signage it must be very obscure so as not to easliy draw attention, I suspect this must be deliberate. We still got a parking fine even after showing our receipts for the food and drink we purchased, thus this appear to be a typical money making scam. Apart from this take my advice and avoid this pub, food was very poor, drinks were over priced and the beer garden smells like a sewage farm. Childens area and pub in general is very run down and clearly not maintained. Childrens area in particular is all rotten and not safe for children to play.

Fabulous evening at the navi ! We were greeted by the friendly staff who made us feel extremely welcome . The food was real home cooked food which we enjoyed in the lovely beer garden in the sun whilst watching the boats sail by on the canal. A real family friend pub with a brilliant safe outdoor play area for the kids . Drinks were fairly priced and presented to a high standard . We will definitely be returning 😁

We ordered 2 gammon and chips - "8oz full horseshoe" says the menu. We waited with keen anticipation for it to arrive, however, what we got was a thick rasher of bacon that was very salty, chewy and will have been lucky to weigh 3oz, The peas were pale green from a tin and the salad was worse.. all delivered by a guy in a scruffy t-shirt and tracksuit. It doesn't take much to look professional does it? And gammon shouldn't be difficult to get wrong... if says its a lovely 8oz horseshoe then make sure it bloody is! And a dress code wouldn't do any harm... But at least it was 'only' 14.99 each!! 30 quid? I don't like being taken advantage of. These people are taking customers for mugs with such awful quality and such high prices. Utterly terrible, wish i'd checked reviews before going. It was so bad i asked for and got a full refund. The drinks were expensive too - pint of cider, pint of coke and two small lemonades... £16. If i'm giving someone 50 hard earned english pounds i want decent food. I've given it one star because you can't do zero stars.. If my thoughts are still ambiguous let me summerise - Avoid at all costs.

Really disappointing. We’ve been a customer for years. Spent £15 on 3 soft drinks and a cup of tea to be told we couldn’t have an ice cube for the glass of tap water! Apparently they’re saving the ice for other paid drinks! We were advised that if wanted the water to be cold we needed to buy one from the fridge!!!!! Shocking! After spending probably £1000s in the Navigation over the span of 20 years, I think this business is no longer wanting our custom! Maybe with an apology we’ll come back. If not- oh well- not missing anything anyway! We’ll sit on the canal wall with my own icy drinks!

Stopped in here for some lunch on our drive home from the lake district with the dog. I had a pulled beef and caramalized onion baguette and I swear its one of the nicest things I've eaten! I keep begging my partner to come back so I can relive it but we live over an hour away so, I just hope that when I do make it back that it is still on the menu! Also the pub was lovely, friendly staff and they all loved my dog so bonus points.

The food is tasteless and just warmed up deep frozen. The burger with “melted cheese”, was instead topped with cheese out a bottle. The bun was doughy and soaked. Nothing was homemade as promised. The cheese and bacon baguette.. the bacon got cut lengthwise and hard to eat. The potato’s in a broccoli bake, were almost sandy but without taste. If you had enough gravy to cover all your dishes… you might have had any taste. Side dish pees, never seen any spices or butter… Unfortunately on top, you need to order your food at the bar as well which makes it very time consuming if other guests order beers the same time. No real organisation- very lame. That pub has so much potential but doesn’t get used.

To be honest we nearly didn’t bother go and find this pub after reading the reviews but such a nice day a drink by the canal was the draw. We decided to give lunch a go and our experience was very different. The staff were all friendly and we had two lovely meals, my husband had a perfectly cooked steak and I had delicious chicken in a basket. The chips were hand cut, fresh and crispy, the coleslaw was homemade and tasty, the huge onion rings were a little greasy but still lovely. Ok it’s not cheap but nowhere is nowadays but the quality, service and location made for a lovely day out. It has lots of tables and seating outside but I’m not sure the car park would be big enough on a real busy day.

We were looking for somewhere different with a playground from our granddaughters so chose this pub. On entering it seem strange that no one was inside eating and those outside no eating also (Sunday lunch time), no menus, still living in covid day where you scan a Q code, so it's like ordering from just eat. Looking at the prices we changed our minds, very expensive for just pub grub. We only ordered our granddaughters some food , also very expensive £7 for 4 or 5 chicken nuggets and a few chips , this didn't include a drink or dessert but a toy that was unsuitable for our youngest. Our 12yr old son asked for a drink of water , he was rudely told that if he wanted ice he would need to pay and that he must return the plastic cup once he'd drank it.. Such a shame cause its in a fantastic location

My starter (spring rolls) was typical tiny sized Iceland portions, with a bit of side salad without any dressing, very disappointing, I’m very glad I waited until I saw the starter before ordering the main, even the staff turned up with bags from McDonald’s, says it all really, I sipped my £4 glass of lime & lemon and left promptly never to return again. As well as the printed menu there was a specials board with plenty of choice. Pizzas too and they do smoothies so it’s very varied and good for kids eating too. I had The hunters chicken which was nice, lovely home cooked chips! There was also an area advertising carte dor ice cream but not sure if this might just be during summer months, still this place is versatile and reasonably priced. Will call again. Update called recently and sat outside, they could make the outside area better but can’t complain about the food, had the tuna/ cheese baguette in a basket with chips and coleslaw, fuel enough for the long walk back.

The sun was shining, so we sat in the garden, which was dirty, shabby and unkempt. The rubbish bins were overflowing, there were cigarette butts under all the tables, the grass needed cutting, and there was broken furniture everywhere. We bought two toasted panini sandwiches (£13), which were absolutely dreadful, borderline inedible. The location has so much going for it, but it will never reach its potential, until they offer good food, at fair prices, in a clean and pleasant environment. We won’t be going back

An excellent location on the canal (we moored right outside), a beautiful building which is nicely furnished, but let down by over priced food and drinks. Maybe it's because the place may need to reap the money whilst the weather is nice as I can imagine when the weather is poor, it's dead. A shame as we'd go a lot more often if the food was more appealing. I don't mind paying higher prices if the establishment warrants it. Fingers crossed there may be a change soon as I fear the prices will keep repeat visits from some people to a minimum.

Visited with the family on the bikes as it's a local pub with a great location. Unfortunately this is the second time I've had food there and I'm disappointed again. It's £9.99 for a pie and chips which isn't much bigger than a standard pork pie. I had bangers and mash again for £9.99 I would expect better quality sausages. It took 45mins for food that overall wasn't of the standard one would expect for an almost £50 meal with drinks. At least the side salad was good value and the kids loved that which is the only reason they didn't get a 1 score. Suggest proper pepper grinders would be worth investigating in, rather than little packets in the waiters bum bags.

Visited this pub with friends and on arrival were welcomed by friendly staff. The weather was very warm so we sat outside by the river and enjoyed a lovely couple of cold refreshing beers, the ladies were on G & T's. The food menu was very good with a good assortment of choice at reasonable prices. once we ordered it arrived promptly and was delicious. We had a great couple of hours and left feeling relaxed and were thanked for our custom. Great local pub.

Me and partner called after having a drive around. We found the food lovely. Beef dinner for me and Lamb shank for partner. Definately worth the money. Couldn't fault it. Would go back again.

This pub has really changed since our last visit and I am sure that in the summer it will be well attended because of it's close proximity to the canal, it's large play area and outside seating, but, we went for a meal and were sadly disappointed by what we received.

Went on a long walk along the canal and stopped at the Navigation for a bite to eat Sunday. What a pleasant surprise, the place had been refurbished since I was last here and it’s lovely.

Went with friends to Swampfest which was held in the beer garden. Really well organised event and family friendly. Had a great time and good music, able to have a dance. Had chilli and chips which was good. Good choice of drinks at the bar. Great location next to the canal and good play park which the children in your party loved and the face painting. Will go back to the area and have a good walk down the canal and looking forward to trying out the pub food and dog friendly

The title of this review says it all. It’s so rare to find proper home cooked chips these days rather than the frozen variety you get in all the pub chains. Kids meals are a bit limited but my kids enjoyed them. Lovely setting and friendly staff. Decent menu choices but the menu itself could probably do with an update as they’re very sticky and falling apart.

Kids dinners came in boxes with a toy - that was nice, shame they only serve something and chips for kids. Would be nice to have an alternative to chips and there were no sides so veg was not an option - both kids asked for macaroni cheese - not all kids like chips, god only knows why there are no other options

Really wanted to like the food here as it's a lovely walk with the dog on the canal. However we waited nearly an hour for the food despite the fact that there were very few tables taken. When the food came the onion rings were cold and I would really question that the pizza was home made, the peppers and onion were definately the frozen kind and the pizza base was very circular, it was our opinion that it was a frozen pizza with chicken added and a squirt of barbeque sauce - expensive at £11.

a group of 8 traveled on the the canal and stopped for lunch. 5 of us decided on the gammon, but on ordering found that it was off the menu due to a busy weekend. ok but dont butchers work during the week, so most of us chose the pizza, when I have a pizza I dont like much tomato base, so the menu said freshly prepared I was very hopefully that my pizza would be prepared to my requirement. So my pizza arrived and to my dismay there was lots of tomato, this pizzas resembled a cheap pizza from a frozen food store not the freshly prepared pizza as described on the menu and I was charge £9.99 for this, I could have gone to the local cheap freezer place and got better for a fraction of the pricei. The cook said they wanted a challenged what!!!!! by the amount of boxes they opened. Look I work in the food industry myself and to have tatty menus and crap food at this time of year will not put you in good stead for the rest of the year. I know menus cost money to produce but simplify your menu and do it well.Come on guy look at the menu, dont use can peas use frozen peas just an idea. just look at the food you advertise and see whether you would want it, think small meals always a good just abit to eat.

Had to ask to change their hand gloves. The other person was touching meat and veg with same gloves. Otherwise food was good.

Having just completed my first cycle of chemo and starting to gain my appetite back I decided to order a pizza from here. I ordered my pizza at 18.35 and was told it would be with me in 45mins to 1hr. At 19.58 not having received my pizza I rang back to be told that the pizza was on its way to me. At 20.12 still not having received my pizza I was told it was unacceptable but basically nothing they could do about it as the driver wasn’t answering his phone. The pizza arrived at 20.20 - the driver telling me it wasn’t his fault. The pizza was luke warm and congealed and went straight in the bin. I won’t be ordering from here again as it wasn’t just the delay in the pizza arriving it was the ‘just accept it’ attitude of the staff.

Good prices, big portions, great desserts, ordered delivery for me and my partner and had really good cookie dough that arrived warm and with unmelted gelato. The cookie dough was perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy inside. Gelato was as tasty as most gelato. Oreolicious milkshake was thick and creamy with nice Oreo pieces. The gateau was decent, nothing special same with the fudge cake but for the price we were happy with it. Would recommend the cookie dough or waffles over the gateaux. Everything arrived well packed so the ice-cream stayed cold and the hot dessert hot with no split milkshake. Didn't try any regular food just desserts.
