I cannot recommend the roast here enough! It is my second visit in two weeks. It's a no nonsense roast that is just perfect! The food comes out piping hot and the gravy is sensational! The brisket croquettes were the star of the show. The service from Jen was also wonderful. I can't wait to come back! Also, the kids options are great, one of our kids had a sausage roast and the other had fish fingers!

I stopped by for a quick bite to eat while out for a walk. Being solo, it can sometimes be quite daunting but the welcome I received was lovely. I'm not a roast fan. I know. How can you not like a roast? It was pleasing to see other options available. The scampi basket was well presented and plentiful. A nice glass of white wine to go with it too. I'll be back.

Been here a couple of times for Sunday roast and always had a great experience. The food is delicious, varied drinks choices and friendly service. The prices are like everywhere else, post-pandemic, unfortunately. The only way to avoid that is not go anywhere, I find.. The pub itself looks like it has a lot of history and character. I have nothing but good things to say!

Don't know what everyone else is complaining about - this seemed fine to me. I admit it's expensive by pre-pandemic standards for the Midlands but they're completely normal for a village pub in 2023 to the eyes of this southerner. The beer was excellent, the staff friendly, the garden compact but scenic, and the soup exactly what I was looking for.

The location is nice, the staff not particularly friendly (perhaps because it was a busy and clammy day) and the food is nothing but barely edible. We selected the vegan option for the Sunday roast and we were served 3 vegan sausages and 3-4 roasted potatoes lost in a very wide plate (surely ideal for the classic version, still not easy on the eyes) each. The trimmings included boiled and flavourless green beans, peas and carrots in very limited amount. In contrast , the bill was excessively expensive. We still regret stopping there

What a waste of a pub in a great location. The drinks are expensive, I would say venue prices, the food is terrible, Cajun chicken burger was dry, no taste and the fries overdone, chunky chips would have been better. The quality was terrible yet they charge around £15 for food that wouldn’t cost more than £2. Better food from a roadside chuck wagon. One saving grace is the beer, Abbot, was ok, a bit flat but not bad. The outside is looking old and and tatty, mish mash of cheap seating. I would only go there for a drink in future and even then would think about the prices charged. What a waste, could be such a good place to go.

Lovely day on the river ending up in this place for lunch. Not bust but weather was good so sat outside by the river for a drink and some food. Bar is small inside but staff are friendly and seating isn't an issue. Parking might be difficult at times but it's a quiet pub by the water. Meal came quick enough after ordering and portions were spectacular, well presented and hot. Thoroughly recommended and shout out to the staff who were impeccable

Poor place for food and wouldn't return at all. Went here on a recommendation. Ordered a ceaser salad which was effectively a bowl of lettuce with croutons and parmesan priced at £12. Very poor and overpriced, what ceaser salad doesn't just come with chicken and bacon, that's what makes a ceaser salad. No loo roll in toilets either. Our server was nice and friendly and a nice setting on the waters edge but no good for food

I visited last weekend with my wife, her son and girlfriend. The staff were quite good but could not work out where our pre booked table was so we had to make do with one table while waiting for a group of lads to vacate what we thought was our table. We moved when they went but why book if you don't get a table? The food was OK but the Lamb wrap was a bit sad looking and my fish and chips was over cooked. The side salads and skin on fries were good and the you could make a nice Tapas style meal from a selection of the starters. I think there is potential for it to be excellent as the staff enthusiasm is there just needs a bit more attention to detail with the booking process and the food standards. We will be back to check it gets there.

It felt really safe in this new Covid world . The food was absolutely amazing , it arrived quickly and was all home cooked . We had the vegetarian roasts and were impressed with not only the roast but all the accompaniments as well . We opted for the apple crumble with custard for pudding which was delicious . After waiting 20 minutes to order our first drink, another 15 minutes for it to arrive, and then ignored for another 40 minutes before our roast dinners arrived (1 hour 15 minute wait in total) the food was nothing more than adequate. When we spoke to the manager about our disappointment (at the bar due to another 20 minute wait for the bill) he would not have cared less. He did not apologise, care or thank us for our custom. Simply took our money and walked away. We could not have been more insulted! Rude, arrogant and not the sort of person that should be running or evening working in a local pub. The young female waitress, however, was incredibly lovely and evidently rushed off of her feet: another example of his poor management skills and lack of care towards his staff! He should be ashamed of himself!

After 6 months of ‘lockdown’ due to COVID-19 my little family unit of 3 decided to venture out for an afternoon to enjoy the beautiful weather. Firstly, we enjoyed the Canadian canoe experience on the River Soar (canal boats/barges and paddle boats also for hire next to The Navigation Inn, or a beautiful stroll along the River SoarThe Navigation was perfectly, and very smoothly, operating a Covid-safe drinks and dining experience; one way system, eating outside with more than 2m social isolating space , hand sanitiser dispenser on the table in the pub as you enter, track and trace sign in, staff (the lovely Fern)wore a face mask. The sun was out and after a blissful time along the River Soar we were certainly deserving an ice cold drink or two to quench our thirst; and a bite to eatFern took our order and was extremely courteous and welcoming, her customer service skills were also exceptional, making our whole experience most enjoyable after being in ‘lockdown’ for so long. As we visited during the weekday there was only a handful of other customers so we really felt comfortable and safe as one can be during COVID-19!We absolutely love this place, and will certainly visit again real soon, more so to support our local economy and businesses.

Called in for a quick drink while on a canal walk but decided to stay for lunch. Pleased we did. All COVID sanctions in place, excellent relaxed atmosphere watching the boats go by, really unobtrusive yet attentive service by the young staff and a very good home cooked lunch, started with a generous portion of whitebait alongside a chunky house chopped tartar sauce , followed by beef and lamb with cauliflower cheese, veg selection, roasties, buttered mash, homemade yorkie and someone really knows how to make stock gravy. Only a personal note but I think the plates could have been bigger so as not to pile the more than adequate portion. We will certainly revisit and would highly recommend.

Beer very good but atmosphere less so. Went for Sunday lunch but arrived to be greeted by A Barrow Town football junior football team with boys exuberant after a game and dominating the bar area like a youth club. TBH not badly behaved but no place for a Sunday lunch although coaches seemed more interested in beer than looking after the team. Bar staff not sure how to handle it and tables left uncleared. Left and went elsewhere. Usually much better. Suggest Sunday lunch may be better elsewhere if the bar is taken over for regular football socials.

Whilst the setting has all the makings of anticipated nice meal and drink, BUT, and it is a very big BUT, do make sure you have all the time in the world to wait for your meal. Even if the place is almost empty with people eating you will have a very very very long wait. From ordering a simple meal which included one being the special offer of the day and the other a simple Chicken Salad with Chips we still had an hour and 8 mins to wait for the food to arrive. Once the food arrived it was I have to say very very nice. On another note beware of the stools outside as they are in desperate need of throwing over board and replacing and the place being next to the canal could easily be hosed down every morning to keep it looking clean and fresh. Some of those spiders webs around the tables were weeks old. This place has the potential to really do well but it gives the impression about the whole place that the owners have decided to adopt the attitude of "That'll do" Please take a little advise if nothing else in that you need to up your game if you want repeat customers and expect good word of mouth. In brief, food was good but would I return!!, not at this time when others are doing it better.

Located on the river Soar, this pub offers lovely food at very reasonable prices. The food is freshly made using quality ingredients. Portions are generous. The bar offers a good variety of ales, ciders, wine. Best of all is the outdoor seating. It's a beautiful and peaceful place to watch narrow boats go by - a good place to come alone with a book or with friends. If you've been before, note it's got new owners, and they have dramatically improved the food. So definitely worth giving it another try. Indeed, it was so nice, it would be worth coming to Barrow just to visit this pub.

First time I’d been to the navigation since last year, always had a good experience, however on this visit the drinks were ordered followed by the lunch order of omelet ten minutes after, we sat outside with the dogs and enjoyed the boats passing, we sat and waited, finished our drinks and I went and reordered another round, I asked how long the meal would be as we had by now been waiting about an hour, I was informed it’s on its way I went back and continued to wait, a couple with a young child who had arrived at least 20mins after we had ordered were then served their meals, it was well over an hour and I went to Request a refund but also ask why this couple had been served before ourselves only to be informed “because she needs to get back for the school run!” I informed her that we’re all busy and have things to do and again requested a refund, she then informed the chef who’s kitchen is adjacent to the bar who’s comment was “ for f**k sake it’s about ready now” totally appalled at the lack of professionalism we left hungry and completely underwhelmed, we were given our money back but the only taste left in our mouths was a bitter one!

I have been to the Navigation Inn several times and always made to feel welcome. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the chef was extremely accommodating. He has prepared two vegan dishes for me and I am hopeful to see them on the menu as they were delicious (I would highly recommend the veganThai curry). Look forward to my next visit!

Visited the navigation on Thursday night for steak night and had the steak deal. X2 rib eye with pepper sauce and bottle of wine for £15.95 each. Absolute quality deal and proper home cooked and the hand made chips topped it off. Well worth a visit.

We visited on a Friday evening and bar staff were very friendly. The pub was lively with several young children running around and a dog, surprising at 7:30 on a Friday evening, but adding to the “local feel”?? The outside patio was lovely, overlooking the canal. Food was great, we had scampi and chips... incredibly moist and chips were homemade and piping hot! Lovely meal all around!

Booked a table for Sunday Lunch at 12.30pm, after a long wait at the bar, we overheard someone being told the kitchen does not open until 12.30pm. We waited for over an hour for our lunch to arrive after asking if the meal would be arriving sometime today. There was no apology from the lady behind the bar who was obviously in charge. The meal was ok but not the best and we received a plate of vegetables that were uncooked and definately not enough to go around 4 people.

Went for Sunday lunch. Placed the order at 12:25, was told that they "don't start till 12:30", fair enough, only 5 minutes away. Our starter arrived 1 hour 10 minutes later, main course (mediocre Sunday roast) was brought to the table 40 minutes later. The waitress was most apologetic for the delay. Kudos to her, everyone was complaining but she took it in her stride and kept apologising for something that was obviously not her fault! Whatever their excuse, it does not take nearly 2 hours to serve a roast dinner! We would have left if not for the fact that we were starving and could not be bothered to look for somewhere else to go to eat (especially as we had walked along the canal to get there!) It wouldn't have been so bad had they told us it would be a long wait, which would have given us the option to go elsewhere. Won't be going there again. On the plus side, they have a great location by the canal, especially on a sunny day like today.

We held our daughter’s 21st Birthday Party in the loft! From start to finish the staff were so lovely and really helpful, everything done with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. It’s a fantastic space and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it or using it again

Lovely coffee and cake. Dog friendly inside and out. The cafe was very busy as it was a Sunday but the staff were still lovely and friendly. Also I really like how all the wrapping and utensils are recyclable

Coffee was good and easily found somewhere to sit, toilets well overdue for a good deep clean! Also desperate for a new bin that's not covered in rust from urine bouncing off the toilet.
