Came upon this pub at lunch time by chance. A huge selection of beers - we were spoilt for choice. A varied lunch time menu of small plates, sandwiches, sharing plates and burgers The young lady at the bar was friendly and welcoming. The pub had a lovely ambience and background music. Clean and tidy. Dog friendly. We had a fish butty and a beef with crispy onions ciabatta. Both delicious. Will definitely return again and again. Well done team.

We regularly go to the Narrow Boat for drinks, as the range of beers is among the best in Skipton, but this was the first time we have eaten since the refurbishment. The small plates menu is superb, and 3 plates for £18 is a great price and as vegetarians we still had enough to choose from. Behind the bar, Dan is always welcoming and friendly, and took the time out to chat with us while clearing the table. We are spoiled for food choice in Skipton, but the Narrow Boat is certainly now high up the list.

Great selection of Kirkstall Beer Ales - can’t fault that. Food - that’s a different story. Not good, below average. Tasteless, unimaginative, frozen ingredients, deep fried. Not cheap either. I had the Jerk Chicken salad. Chicken very dry and salad was dull and bland. There were 9 of us eating - not one of us would go back for food. Service left a lot to be desired too. If you want a pint and a packet of crisps, go. If you want food, don’t bother. There are much better places to eat in Skipton. Shame really as we were all looking forward to it.

We arrived for our reserved table for 6 at 2pm. The Erdinger on draft caught my eye and definitely didn’t disappoint, such a smooth pint to enjoy whilst browsing the food menu. Instantly I was drawn to the homemade guinnes steak pie, I mean what better way to line the stomach before a night on the sesh! When the food arrived it was like love at first sight ( check the picture and you’ll understand what I mean ). The portion was massive, you literally couldn’t fit anymore filling within the steak pie! The steak, veg and chips were cooked to perfection! This was my first visit to The Narrow Boat and definitely not the last! Highly recommend! Big shout out to the head Chef! Thank you

Great beer but terrible food. I ordered a Thai Green Curry which was awful and bore no resemblance to an actual Thai Green Curry. I suspect it was stir fried vegetables with some chillis and curry powder.

Two things you should be made aware of: 1. since Sep 2023 this is no longer part of the Market Towns Taverns chain (despite still featuring on MTT's website !) but owned by Kirkstall Brewery 2. the pub food policy is to bring your starter and main AT THE SAME TIME "because of the way the kitchen is set up", a practice I find completely unaceptable. The Narrow Boat was my favourite Skipton pub for many years but I shan't be going there again.

My wife and I both had a haddock butty and chips. The haddock arrived between two large slices of unbuttered bread which were about three times the size of the fish. The bread had, for some reason, been put on a griddle to produce black lines on it, giving the bread a burnt taste. Some weeks ago my wife had had a fettucine dish at the Narrow Boat containing chicken which had also been unpleasantly charred on the griddle. Could I suggest that the Narrow Boat invests in some wire wool and cleans this griddle regularly and before the environmental health people pay their next visit? I have tried to contact Market Town Taverns who own this pub chain but their website only has fictional email addresses and using the form gets no reply.

I've been here before and liked it so I decided to bring my daughter and her BF here for lunch. We ordered drinks and sat down to peruse the menu. I ordered food at the bar and was told there's a 50% discount on food for January. Great! Unfortunately due to 'the stupid till' the lovely lady could not apply the discount so I had to pay full price. I would've been fine not knowing about the discount, but because I was told about it and then told I couldn't have it, it left a bad taste. The food was okay but the sauce and gravy arrived a few minutes after. We chose not to have desert and left for a wander around beautiful Skipton.

Looks like this pub has been 'gentrified' and it is paying the price. To be fair, the beers were good. The food has to be the worst I have experienced for some time. Dry, uninteresting burger, Thai green curry that came as a jalfresi (but didn't live up to that description either), cremated fish and chips and overcooked salmon coated in a barbecue type sauce with heavily battered and overcooked prawns posing as miso salmon. Two meals were not charged for following our complaints, but arguably we would have been justified in not paying anything.

Was even more disappointed to be treated in such an off-hand manner, by the young woman whom I asked, about the whereabouts of our food, having waited 25 minutes already. Her response was curt- “we’re very busy”. No apology, no offer to check up on status of our order, unlike the young man who we subsequently asked. He was polite and helpful. We popped in to grab a drink and a late lunch however was told that they stopped serving at 2.30 and start again at 5.30. It was a Friday so that’s fair enough. We stayed for a couple of drinks as the selection was very good. It also allows dogs in which is a big tick for us.

Recommend by local pub and specials board and menu looked good. Mains around £11. But include no veg. Salads and seasonal vegetables available as sides around £4. Food very nice but left feeling disappointed and underfed.

Visited here for lunch whilst on holiday with friends. Popped in by chance and so pleased we did, great food, fresh, and freshly cooked, very tasty, hot and beautifully presented, great service too, its so hard to find service with a smile these days, well done The Narrow Boat.

Good friendly pub serving good food but with a very relaxed atmosphere. Just like being in your own local.

Popped in one Monday evening and got a table no problem. The menu isn't big but there's enough on there for all. We had a burger meal, steak and ale pie and the chicken schnitzel. All came well presented and hot. We all enjoyed what we had. Nice friendly atmosphere. Portion sizes we good and the price wasn't out of the way. If ever we're back in Skipton, we'll go again.

We visit Skipton quite regularly, and have tried most of the pubs on the high street, but have been disappointed in what we have found.

Nice welcome from the staff on Sunday evening when we popped in with the dog for a few drinks. Dog welcome on Tuesday when we popped in for dinner. No atmosphere as Tuesdays are ‘closed’ in Skipton. The chicken curry was very poor. tasteless and full of chickpeas.

Came across the Narrow Boat by sheer chance. Sat outside on a lovely afternoon, under the colonnades at the front. Really friendly and welcoming bar staff. We had some smashing food at a very reasonable price. Will visit again next time we are in the area. This place is a real gem.

We were to the restaurant 5th Sept 2018, Very good food, BUT a yappy small dog spoils the peace and quiet and the meal - 45 minutes of bark bark bark. We informed the bar staff or our annoyance. The bar sign says 'well behaved dogs welcome' but they agreed, this was a real nuisance. Another small dog was on the seats at table level, not on the floor. So, I will not recommend or be back, a real shame as the food was very good. Owners should control their dogs when in public - especially when in a restaurant. The Narrow Boat owners should tell dog owners to go if their dog can't sit down on the floor and be quiet.

We called here with the dog and sat outside as it was such a lovely evening. The food was nice although what stops it getting 5 is that I had the curry which was very tasty and paid extra for chicken. The chicken amounted to a a few pieces and wasn't with the extra
