The Mystery Of Bengal in Southampton

Food was terrible. The Mystery is a good name of this takeaway, as it was a mystery finding any flavour in the chicken tikka masala. The first and last time I’ll be ordering from here.

Poor food. Everything was extremely bland and tasted the same. Like cardboard. The rice was watery as was the korma sauce and the chicken tasted like foam.

Having ordered many times today will be the last time The order was wrong I got lamb and not chicken, the rice and the onion bhaji s was cold,I phoned the takeaway the reply was oh dear and when I said it was cold the reply no no no not cold I will send something free next time.this is not the first time it's been cold Looking for a new place to order from.

The name of this restaurant represents what you will get in your order- complete Mystery! Placed an order online for 2 main meals, 1 rice and a nann. Upon opening the order, the food was all wrong. Having phoned the manager, he was very rude and laughed on the phone, as if to say “ that’s where the wrong order went” He said my dishes are on the side waiting for me to come and collect. No apology, very rude Shame as up until recently, had no issues but this is the third time in as many visits over the past year whereby we have had issues.

Used this takeaway for the second time today 2 x chicken korma with plain rice x2 keema naan and lamb biryani order and only £22 food was excellent quality really tasty and good size portions. Will be ordering again soon

He estado usando esta comida para llevar durante más de un año y pasé al menos 40 veces, NUNCA MÁS, el gerente tomó mi orden cuando llamé para pedir poppadoms adicionales y para confirmar que las salsas de yogurt venían con entrantes, le ordené que ya se había acostado conmigo. Antes de que terminara de hablar esperé una hora y mi Saag Ponir no era Entregado tampoco era uno de los arroces por los que pagamos y no podía importarle menos, ¡y dijo que tenía que pagar extra por cualquier salsas! ! ! ! Servicio absolutamente desagradable

Last night, we ordered a takeaway to be delivered. Only half the order arrived after 1 hour. 3 hours and 2 phone calls later, still no food and told no refund!!! A complete 'rip off', would not touch with a barge pole.

The food was excellent cannot fault the quality and taste of what I ordered. Fabulous!! so good in fact I'm going again tomorrow

This Take-away is one of the best for quality of food but the waiting times are always much longer than time they give when you order order. For example tonight I ordered lamb and chicken dishes. Was told it would be ready in 20 minutes but I ended up waiting 60 minutes. The lamb dish was excellent with lots of meat but the chicken dish had only 4 small pieces.

We have used this takeaway several times before and always been happy. This time my friend called and wanted to pay on card, he had to call a different number. They were rude on the phone and hung up on us twice when we called to chase our order. After waiting for 2 and a half hours we called again, they then tried to say they had the wrong post code- we also heard them giving the same excuse to someone else on the phone. It is such a shame as we have always found the service and the food good in the past but will never be eating here again. They really need to review their customer service.

This place is consistent with their quality take aways. I cannot recommend them enough. The place is clean the staff are friendly and you watch your food being prepared and cooked.

Excellent take away food, good value for money, cooked in front of me while I waited, amazing to watch, tasted as good as it looked will go again very soon.

Have recently started using this place it has top quality tasty food at a very reasonable price. I recomend the chic vindaloo

We have been going to this takeaway for about 20 years now. That should be a good indication of what we think about it. It is not blind loyalty, we have tried many others in and around Southampton but we always go back th the Mystery... the food is good, freshly prepared, well served and reasonably priced. We have never had a bad meal from them... I guess if I was being picky I would say that even after being a regular customer and going there about 3 times a month for 20 years they are still not that friendly and rarely speak much apart from taking the order. But that's the only negative I can think of.

As above, the food really is wonderful but two hours for delivery is far too long. We phone twice to chase up our order and were promised 'it's on its way' both times. Shame - it could be so much better.

I went here tonight as Eastern Nights was closed which is my usual venue. I ordered my food and popped out. when i came back I was watching the chefs works with interest. They had packaged someones currys up and the chef un-did them and only dipped his finger in the sauce, licked it, wiped his finger with a very grubby cloth and then stuck the finger in another curry and licked again. I assume to work out what they were. I immediately questioned him about this only for him to say its all clean and im pretty sure he told me to watch TV instead. The curry's were not particularly bad but not that good either and the chefs saliva ginger in the sauces does leave a bad taste in your mouth. Would never go here again. Wonder how they got that 5 in the food standards.

My whole family have just had the best take away curry ever from here. The king prawn bhuna was absolutely amazing. Well done everyone at the Mystery and thankyou for a truly fantastic local experience.

We have been using this take away for many years and wouldn't use another . Friendly staff , excellent food quality . I don't recall a bad meal in over 10 years. Recommended.

After living in Hedge End for two years I'd almost given up on take aways for one of my favourite cuisines as I've had some poor meals locally. A work colleague suggested this place. Really glad they deliver to Grange Park. Delivered within stated time. Reasonable prices. The food was excellent. Good quality chicken used and plenty of it. Sauces were spicy and tasty. Would have given five stars if it wasn't for the fact that this is the first curry I've ever had delivered that didn't come with some free popadoms in the bag! I hope the standard is consistent in the future.

Fantastic food and quick delivery at a great price. We order from them regularly having found them on Just Eat and dont go anywhere else for an excellent curry indoors

This is my favorite take away, I keep going back and am never disappointed.. you can see into the kitchen which is always a good sign, the waiting area is starting to look tired but don't let that put you off.
