I have never seen such blatant racism in my life. This is 2024. People of colour and like minded people walking into this Jim Crow, antiquated backwards establish please be aware. To put a note not to offend is outrageous. We should be all tolerate of each others differences. Obviously a person who's not well versed and travelled. How can society move on when we have people who think that it's reasonable to offend people who are just enjoying their vacation. White privileges allows one to laugh, turn a blind eye or to offer a rationale for their inherent racism. Being White I can only apologise and say that the majority of educated White people just want to live in peace and unity. Should be ashamed. Schools visits! How do teachers explain gollywogs in todays society as being acceptable.

This was our second visit to The Moors Coffee Shop at Goathland and it didn't disappoint. I had a cappuccino and a bacon and sausage sandwich and my wife had a cappuccino and a bacon and egg sandwich. The sandwiches were great and just right for a mid morning snack. We had a Very disappointing visit as the cafe had no washroom facility, It is not acceptable in this day and age. Though I may want to experience the yesteryears for nostalgia I do not want to suffer the same ailments we all did at some time through lack of hygiene. Off the cuff, the answer to our request was to go across the road to a car park with public toilets! Milkshake was abominable! That said the English tea was nice though expensive. Please do not confuse this establishment with the Goathland tea rooms just up the road that I wish we had come across before this one, as it did have washroom facilities and I observed a much-improved standard of hygiene and other facilities including garden seating.

Went into this store to take a look around and possibly have a bite to eat - we were absolutely astonished to turn a corner at the back and see floor to ceiling displays of golliwog 'Jolly Golly' merchandise. In 2024, this is outrageous, and the signs all around saying 'no photography' clearly indicate that the proprietors know this. Were this part of the store obliterated, the whole establishment would be very pleasant. As it is, strongly, strongly suggest giving it a miss.

We had a lovely stay at the Mallyon Spout Hotel and before leaving for home decided to do some shopping and have coffee in this beautiful village. We had ordered coffee when my daughter spotted the golliwogs. I genuinely could not believe my eyes. The proprietors can change the names of these all they like but they are a racist caricature of black people. We left after making our views clear and wil never visit this village again.I have contacted the council and await their response but am appalled this is tolerated.

Couldn’t believe lack of hygiene by serving staff. A cheese scone was taken from the display cabinet by hand, put on the serving counter, moved 3 times by the same server who was handling money, writing orders and attempting to fix a machine. The same scone was picked up by another server using her fingers. Both servers were seen cleaning tables with a cloth and spray. Later, cake was cut by a slice and put on a plate using fingers. Shocking!

Horrible collection of really offensive Gollyw*g dolls in the shop, not only dolls but mugs, keyrings, magnets etc… naming them Jolly Gollys does NOT make it okay. It’s disgusting. I’m not meaning one or two things either we’re talking a whole section! The fact that there is a sign up saying strictly no photography means they obviously know it’s completely offensive, after looking online I read that they used to display in windows until ending up going viral, but this only stopped them displaying in window! We had originally had about £40 worth of things on our way to pay buy came across this section and put things down and left. Totally disgraceful!

Took my partner to visit Goathland today as he had never been and popped in here for a bite to eat. Ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 juices. A few minutes after we ordered we were approached at the table and asked to pay our bill prior to getting our food. Not a problem as this is quite normal in a lot of places but not normal to be the only customers in the cafe being asked to pay prior to eating. Everyone else in prior to us paid as they were leaving. We confronted the staff as to why this was the case where everyone else paid after and was met with a half arsed response saying that’s how some of us do it while the girl went bright red then proceeded to say that’s great you w paid and walked away to moan to another member of staff in the “kitchen” about being confronted over it. I’m assuming they just didn’t like the look of us or might have been our accents! The food was mediocre and not really worth it. Would have preferred a meal deal from Tesco and would have probably have received better service. I think it tasted worse due to the ill taste in my mouth from the service. Will 100% never return here and would recommend everyone to avoid like the plague! Didn’t even bother looking round the gift shop and left.

There was also a young couple (maybe 30ish) who came in, sat at the table in front of me and ordered their food - the young lady then got up and went over to a little mirror (decoration) near the door and preceded to brush her hair several times and when she finished doing this, she then dragged her hands through her hair and dropped her loose strands to the floor! I had to settle for a bag of crisps as, sadly, there was no gluten-free option. Many people, having had tea, coffee etc. were (quite understandably) asking where the toilet was, only to be told that there wasn't one (I must admit that I thought it was a legal requirement for establishments offering sit-down food), and that they'd have to go to the toilet in the public car park. This news was not generally well received. This is the only reason I didn't give this lovely little coffee shop 5/5, but it is a pretty important issue, especially for older visitors (and this village clearly attracts many of them) who can't walk very far.

Having visited Goathland on a number of occasions we decided to go into the Moors Coffee Shop for a spot of lunch. The service was quick and friendly and at the time of ordering asked if we wanted to pay now or later. We also asked if we could have the drinks at the same time as the food which they said was fine. We ordered a bacon roll, 2 chicken sandwiches, a ham sandwich, a cheese sandwich and a pork pie. The sandwiches were served with chutney, salad, coleslaw and fruit. The sandwiches were made from fresh bread and was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. The value for money was good and would certainly eat lunch there again.

A rainy day & My wife and I visited Goathland /Heartbeat Land by making the small journey from Whitby.Having walked around the small village and viewed what we wanted it was time to quench our thirsts before moving on to our next destination. In such a small area visitors are obviously limited in their choice of café`s .......on the main road, this establishment was conveniently placed and we strolled in to the `oldy worldy` / `period` café. Luckily for us a bus party had just finished and filtered out through to the adjacent /linked gift shop so most of the tables were available. We sat down but soon realised that we needed to order from the counter - we only wanted a Latte. The lady at the desk must have had a busy day because she didn`t exactly welcome us merely took the order and certainly never cracked a smile!I took my debit card out to pay but she quickly informed me "cash only"........phew, (I thought) welcome to the Moors Cafe Eh! ( again, my thoughts only) Upon finishing our drinks (nice) we briefly walked through to the gift shop but nothing caught our `eye` so we headed off back to the car. Purely by chance one of the steam trains was setting off on its journey, as it majestically chuff chuffed its way into the surrounding countryside anyone watching and listening were treated to the telltale plumes of smoke billowing upwards into the overcast spring skyline.......for me, the highlight of the visit.

Called in with the family after an eight mile walk. After being ignored for 10mins we left and opted for a chocolate bar each from the shop up the road. Also noticed that the attached gift shop had a large display of golliwogs. It's 2016 for heavens sake

Chose this tea room for a cup of tea and a scone. The tea was o k but the scone very dry and not nice at all. The cafe not very welcoming and nobody came to ask if everything was alright. No toilet so nowhere to wash my hands before I handled my food. The cafe itself looks like a refit is needed a s a p. Will not return again will try one of the other cafes. Do not recommend for value or quality of food.

Called here today and was disappointed with this cafe. If you like chipped plates ripped menu and a grotty tablecloth this is the place for you. You pay as soon as you sit down and I know why. We ordered a cream tea and a pot of tea. The price £3.50. The scone was dry and stale no butter cheap tasteless jam but cream o k. Nothing looked nice and appetising wished we had not bothered.

I have visited the coffee shop on several occasions when visiting Goathland and have always found it very pleasant as are the staff and the certainly do not mind dogs in the tea room, unlike the other tea room in Goathland which only allows dogs in the garden part. When you have dogs going to a dog friendly place is very important, They are after all very much like our children. I myself go everywhere with my little dog and only visit where I know she will be welcome as The moors Coffee shop is.

We called in here on a cold winter's day for some drinks and sandwiches. The service was great and the staff very friendly. They went out of their way to accommodate us and when I explained I couldn't eat the bread they had on offer they went the extra mile to give me what I needed.I also had the hot chocolate with marshmallow - yummy.Good value for money too and it was nice to have a wander around the gift shop after lunch. I would highly recommend this lovely, quaint cafe.

We were in the gift shop but decided to have a coffee but stayed for a soup and hot bacon rolls. Just the thing on a dull day.We asked for help on what to see and where to visit and the staff were very helpful and friendly. By the time we had had our lunch the sun was out and we set about seeing all the special places we had seen on Heart Beat. We will definitely visit the coffee shop again when we come next time, perhaps to have tea and scones.MargeryR.

WOW WEE - What a perfect place to eat and drink. The whole ambiance was lovely, the food was great and so was the service. The staff were warm and friendly and the shop next door was full of some lovely gifts! Totally 1st class coffee shop. The cafe got rather busy and needed some extra pair of hands, but the 2 ladies who ran it did a fine job and a real credit to them both for taking all those orders and working under such pressure. Brilliant! The prices won't make a dint in your wallet and so reasonable for such wholesome food! So can't wait to go back real soon!

The food was tasty and filling, however customer service was lacking. The lady who took my order was unfriendly and when I produced my debit card to pay for over £16 worth of food made me feel an imposition and just said "through here" taking me into the shop. I was also shocked to hear a cafe serving sit down food and drink did not have a toilet.

We came to view the "Heartbeat" location and stopped here for a cuppa. We decided to upgrade to a "cream tea". Lovely. Nice scone. Jam and cream. One tea (Yorkshire) and one coffee (Taylors). Quality. Since it was a nice day we sat outside. A passing wasp took a fancy to some too and was swiftly despatched with a newspaper. The table next to us had some sandwiches, which looked nice. Water provided (free) for our dogs and a nice gift shop too. Just "touched the spot".

My husband and I visited Goathland over the bank holiday weekend and stopped at The Moors Coffee Shop. My husband went to the counter and ordered cream tea for me and a coffee and carrot cake for himself. When our order came my husband found he'd been given a white coffee instead of black so he took it to the counter to exchange it - the lady behind the counter actually tried to argue with him that he had ordered white!! He only drinks black coffee so why on earth he would decide to order white I have no idea, but the lady did swap it for him in the end. After that was sorted we sat and enjoyed our food and drinks however the scones were really dry!! So overall not the most enjoyable visit and I wouldn't recommend The Moors to anyone - unless you want dry scones and unfriendly staff! and no toilet!

We popped in here for a cup of tea and a slice of cake? But we had to go up to the counter to place our order which to me is just laziness when you are trying to make a living and also get customers to buy something in your shop after visiting the coffee shop. This is Goathland in the Yorkshire moors which on both days we visited was busy.Heartbeat was very popular and as they filmed in Goathland just changing the name to Aidensfield you would think The Moors Coffee Shop would be glad to see you and take your money but the lady that we met gave the impression she wasn't bothered if we were there or not and then when Sue asked where the toilet was in a business selling food! To be told we don't have one? There is a toilet block in the Car Park?Well we think if this lady is the owner she deserves to go bust and if she is an employee then urgent staff training is needed or the owner will go bust?Just so people know the toilet block is in at the very bottom of the car park so if this was an older lady that could not walk too fast, she could easy have an accident before reaching this toilet block! So if you want refreshments without a smile and don't need a toilet then this is for you, if not go somewhere they want your custom? As we have said we speak as we find which we gave this place a poor vote.Hopefully the owner will reply to this review and we look forward to reading it?John & Sue Eastbourne UK

We went yesterday after googling where had good reviews!!! Arrived at goathland and went immediatley into the coffee shop!! Was really busy but no atmosphere at all!! We had to order at the desk and even though it was only early lunch they had no brown bread, we waited absolutley ages for our food!! People on other tables had been forgotton about altogether!!Our food arrived at the horrible cheap breadcakes and half sausages were dissappointing. Really shocked that with such a captive market this was not fabulous!! One final point.... No toilet and with elderly parents this was not acceptable in this day and age for coffee shop /restaurants!!! Had to go across the road to a carpark which i have to say ... The toilets were very nice x

On a very wet and rainy day we went in to dry out and warm up. There were 2 other tables taken at the same time so hardly heaving so I was very surprised that you were expected to go to the cash point to order and pay, to add insult to injury the person had heard what we had wanted so even though there was a sign saying you gad to go over to order, they could have done that bit extra. The cakes and pastries looked fab but as it wasn't long since breakfast when we went I cannot say what they tasted like.My biggest surprise was the lack of toilet facilities, not sure how they get away with that. You had to cross the road and go across the car park to get to them, think that is definitely unaceptable, it was a shame as with a little extra care and attention this place could be so much better.

Had been away for the weekend, having been to wether spoons for breakfast yesterday and being bitterly disappointed we thought we'd try abbey view as we had been yesterday for lunch and enjoyed our potato and leek soup. The breakfast was amazing everything was fabulous including the service. Thanks.
