The Courtyard in Scarborough

I have to say we visited today after using the escape room next door at 12.45 which is lunch time we were a group of 6 who wanted to eat food and drink cocktails. when we asked the staff had to ask the chef where we could sit which I thought was odd but we waited, the staff then said we could sit but not move the tables and there was 6 of us but we was offered to sit upstairs. when we went upstairs we weren't shown the room or where to go when we found it it was a games room none of the staff came and offered to move the games or bring cutlery or menus the staff didn't seem bothered if we were there or not, as for there attitude and lack of customer service we left so you lost all our custom when you could capitalise on the footfall from the escape room. anyway we were upset . I did message courtyard and they said they were busy which they weren't and we left before they could help us which wasn't true I tried to explain and they blocked me which is a good sign of customer service. It's a shame but all 6 of us felt the same leaving with no food or drink . We sadly won't be back

Just had a great meal. Helped my wife with her food intolerance. Good food, doggy welcome and a cracking pint. What more can you ask for. Definitely worth a visit.

I came here with my Mum and dog as told it was dog friendly and lovely food. We were staying for 2 nights. The first night we came here. The food was lovely and homemade. We enjoyed it that much we decided to go the second night. Totally different staff, 1 small blonde haired girl was very unwelcoming, rude and cocky with us. This put us off going again as the food was so nice. Needs a good clean aswell. Rest of the staff lovely.

The location itself makes this a magical cafe- certainly worth a visit. Coffee and cakes are above standard.

Great food as always our place to go when visiting Scarborough. Steak pie is huge, burgwrs are great. Seating inside great outdoor dining in warmwr weather is lovely

Had lunch there yesterday. Impressive from the car park, and indeed the courtyard. Inside is ok. Not many windows. Food is expensive and of variable quality, which is a shame. I had the Welshrarebit, which must have been "rare" because it was microscopically thin. It came with a dollop of cress and a small cup of dry old potatoes. ( i was told the patoes were an extra, implying their quality didnt count). All for a mere £8:50. My suggestion is, if it comes at you very thin, send it back! Thickness varies! 20mm minimum please!! My wife had a warm Salmon Salad that she enjoyed and we shared a Millionaires Shortbread, which was very nice. Staff out front were lovely. So a mixed experience really. Which was a shame, because it was so easy to get it right.

Great spot with a lovely courtyard beer garden. Dog friendly and extremely helpful staff. One of the best spots for outdoor drinks and dining we found in Scarborough

Such a beautiful place, stunning. The courtyard always has lots of wasps around....didnt spoil our time there as I can ignore them but you could see they were annoying lots of people.

Went for lunch with family and pub had about 3 tables in and waited 45 min for food however it was worth the wait excellent food. Visited today although the weather has been bad we couldn't get over how bad the back has started to look. every single table and chair was mouldy and dirty we actually had to ask for blue roll to clean before we sat down. All the covered areas had mold and covered in lots of cobwebs all over. Looked very unloved. Extansion leads damp and covered in cobwebs. The back garden used to be so nice.. What a shame.

Called in here during our weekend visit to Scarborough very dog friendly which was handy for us , lovely drinks didn’t have food but liked nice , the staff here extremely nice and polite. Would definitely recommend coming here.

Had a lovely evening in the Courtyard. We all had a warm welcome, including our dog. Bowl of water supplied. We both had the steak and Stilton salad which was excellent, lots of tender steak and very tasty. Attractive interior and lovely bar staff. Would recommend

It's a beautiful place to go to. The ambience, the service, the food, all are lovely. The one point lacking is the price of wine...for a 175ml £6, normally I would expect that for 250ml.

Locals usually get a discounted price but I was charged 50p over and above the usual price for regular customers!

Omg love this place soooo much. Went in and its fully decorated for Halloween which I love. The staff were really friendly and service was quick. When food arrived it was piping hot and all fresh cooked which now a days is hard to find. Would highly recommend

We visited here for a meal and a few drinks, the meal was outstanding, the steak was like butter just sliced it so easily, the chips were beautiful same with the salad and onion rings. When we are back in Scarborough we will visit again for sure!

Had 3 days away In Scarborough and came across this the first night.dog friendly which is great for us.staff all friendly nothing too much trouble.ordered burger and chips wow was delicious and fresh .went every night during our stay and never changed always good.great beer looked after well and every night was busy.defiinitely will return when next in area

There are not many venues in scarborough town centre with outdoor seating, so when the weather is hot many people head for the Courtyard. It was very busy when we arrived, and we couldn’t see a spare seat outside, we were just about to leave when a couple offered us their table as they were just leaving. My husband went to order drinks. As I sat there I couldn’t be my eyes! The outside decking was absolutely filthy, this place needs a good deep clean, cracked tiles in the toilets and a worn out sofa on the landing. Definitely in need of a re-furb!

we can here on spec, as the hotel we were staying at the food was rotten. We had no idea if we could get in is what it would be like. It was a Friday early evening, our last night before we headed back to Scotland. Not only did we get in, we had a lovely table, staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Very reasonable for what we got. The food was to die for. We all got different things and each meal was better than the rest. Highly recommend

Our family was turned away for food as there was 8 of us(too large a group) we were also told even if we ordered desperately in two groups of 4 they would not serve us. This was at 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon when hardly anyone in and no one else near us was eating! Don’t understand how a restaurant in this time after covid can be affording to knock back at £100 from us before drinks when it was quiet!!

Love this place! Staff friendly, food always good, we have been when it’s extremely busy and also less busy and you are always told if there’s a long time during busy times which does really help as it’s the not knowing that frustrates customers. A credit to a busy bar/restaurant

We came for a weekend stay arriving on Friday and so eating here that evening was a no-brainer for us. Excellent food served by staff who were polite and friendly in an atmosphere where you know children are not going to spoil it for other diners. A laid back convivial setting and a great start to our break. We had the curry and thoroughly enjoyed it and we will be back here next time we stay in Scarborough

Great staff, spacious seating inside and outside , dog friendly, wide variety of drinks . Warm outdoor seating when heating is on outside. But overall great place.

Walked in here on a quiet week day. No greeting from the brown haired girl behind the bar (although she saw us). Asked for a food menu, she said 'kitchen shuts in half an hour'. She had a face like thunder and was probably the rudest person I've ever come across in a customer service environment. She made us feel so unwelcome. We planned on getting nibbles and drinking for a few hours in the beer garden. We walked straight out and went elsewhere. Loosing money courtyard! Have a word with your staff.

Being local we have always loved this bar, but recently have been disappointed with the wine choice, the Malbec had gone, I have not enjoyed the alternative, last two visits have left my wine, as not enjoyable. Shame

Lovely setting. Horrendous service!! Took parents for drink as Dunstable Downs cafe was closed. Wish I hadn't bothered. Ordered four drinks to have in and four scones to takeaway. Was asked if wanted cream and jam which I opted for. Drinks arrived after 20 mins all lukewarm and one completely wrong. Scones in bag butter no cream. When I questioned this was told "no takeaway cream" Why offer then!!! Staff did not seem particularly interested at all in wrong drink or no cream..disappointing as cost of it all was £27. Don't mind paying but not when I don't get what I ordered.....

So... the good news is that the location is fabulous. However... we went for a mid morning "breakfast / pastry". Problems: Service was not friendly, more like surly; breakfast selection was limited, so we opted for "coffee and danish, £5 each". The coffee is just machine made and in a polystyrene cup - so definitely not a real cappucino; there was no choice of pastry - just a slightly stale standard pain au raisin in a bag - very much railway station quality fare. Worse was to come... half way through eating our stale and unexciting pastries, my wife noticed mould on mine .. and then on hers as well! These were obviously returned... and they said they couldn't process or offer a refund!!! So we took a couple of Eat Natural nut bars in recompense and left. Had been looking forward to the Courtyard Cafe ever since it opened (we are local) and couldn't have been more disappointed. Do yourself a favour... by all means look at the lovely courtyard and if all you want is a tea, I am sure that would be ok... but otherwise, go to the excellent National Trust cafe nearby where everything is very friendly and very fresh, with lots of great menu options!

Went in about 11pm Friday evening. Spoke to bar staff & asked what time they closed, was told usually 1am but later if busy. Went up for a round at 1240, sorry, we’ve called last orders can’t serve you. Not very professional. Otherwise OK.

Been to this pub a couple of times during our stay in Scarborough. The food is lovely and the service is really good. The staff are very friendly. The garden area of this pub is lovely too. Would recommend and we will be back next...

A return visit this year, the food does not disappoint despite a long wait. The atmosphere is always pleasant and the majority of areas are clean and well presented. My only criticism is to the two staff members who displayed some poor hand and nail hygiene constantly biting and picking at nails.

We went out to eat and called at brewers fayre and were told we had to book. We asked where we could eat without booking and were directed around the corner to The Courtyard. SO VERY HAPPY we were too. Amazing food massive portions and reasonably priced. We had a little wait for our food but if the food had arrived quickly then we would have known it had pre cooked. Nice atmosphere and it had a lovely outside area. The girls who were working there were rushed off their feet as the pub was full but they were pleasant and smiling. We had a nice beer too which was not overpriced either Glad that the brewers fayre was pre book only as we would have missed this gem. Thank you to the Courtyard staff for your lovely food and service.

We called in here ad-hoc on our last day in Scarborough for lunch. Interesting sign on the main door stipulating what sort of customer you must be to gain entry - wish I'd taken a photo of it!Usual rigmarole of signing the Track and Trace sheets though the waiter told us we didn't have to put our real names or phone numbers - he said we could write Freddy Kreuger for all he cared as no-one checked the sheets anyway.. No sanitising of the pen that we saw.Sat outside in the Courtyard which was lovely. Ordered two sandwiches - one steak with cheese and one tuna mayo which arrived after a 35 minute wait despite it not being very busy.That said, the food was gorgeous! Huge sandwich with chunky potato wedges and salad - far more than we expected for £6.50 and £6.95 each.

I recently visited here with my partner and his family and we would highly recommend it. The outside area is lovely it felt like you were abroad. The staff were very attentive and friendly they couldn't do enough. It was extremely clean. We stayed in Scarborough for two nights and went both nights, will certainly be returning.

Called in for Family meal, ordered drinks, waiting to order food, visited toilet , the place did not have a lot of people in, staff were on their mobiles behind bar, on my way back to table I asked a waitress if we could order, she snapped at me but I never heard what she said, she eventually came to our table, and we said we were leaving she said so you don't want anything then and stormed off, they were not really interested, on my way out I spoke to two of them who's said they were short staffed, I said there was no one in and you should have more staff then, and had already asked to speak to the Manager and was told the Manager was not there but they would tell the Manager what I said, I also told them they were going to get a c**p review. On the way out there were people queuing to go in, I told them nothing to waste their time as we were going to Macdonalds. Avoid this pub very rude staff and waiting time is incredible.

Visited for lunch took over 1 hour for lunch to arrive. When we politely asked where our food was the waitress argued we hadn't been waiting that long contrary to the time on our bill. Food passable. Waitress needs to learn some manners won't be visiting again. Very rude.

We chose The Courtyard for dinner as we had a dog and needed a garden.From the moment we arrived we were really well looked after. We had a nice seating area outside, prompt service, brought the dog some water.2 of us chose mexican food which was really nice and great value.2 other local couples sat nearby and chatted with us.Really great experience

We visited as a family of 4, over the weekend After being ignored at the Door for around 20mins by what I can only describe as the most Rude waitress with the most terrible attitude . Not only were the staff Rude and snappy with my family. I saw an old man actually throw is food down and leave the restaurant after the staff berated him appallingly. Never in my life have I felt such a bad atmosphere. Management seriously need to address the attitude of the staff. You may now be busy with tourists who know no different, but under the current circumstances, business like this will not survive with people being served in this awful manner. Customers are the reason you have a job! Honestly Just Avoid like the plague!! Dirty sticky tables & toilets also not great!

Had this place recommended .... We were given a table Saturday 6.15pm...waiter was straight on us for our drinks not an issue though ... took our food order 5 mins later .... approaching 7pm we enquired how long our food might be?!? We were told ours should be next out yet if not we would get a free drinks for the delay ...( nobody told us it was an hour wait for food ?!?) Finally it arrived another 15 minutes later minus cutlery another 5 minutes later cutlery arrived . Food was spot on albeit the long wait .... nobody came to the table after that - nobody asked if our food was ok, nobody asked if we wanted any desserts and nobody cleared our dirty plates from our table , even though glasses were cleared from adjacent tables ! Food is lovely but the table service and lack of attentive staff make it one to avoid . We had to get the later train back to Leeds rather than the earlier one we planned to take .

Absolutely love it here I come all the time with my friends and we always enjoy it and are made to feel so welcome!! Staff are amazing and get to know you on a name basis which makes you feel very comfortable. Food is gorgeous and the jugs are to die for. Recommend this place to anyone and everyone !

Me and my partner and a friend and her parnter was lined up for 5 minutes before we got told from the bouncers that there was 2 tables leaving very soon, there was 1 group of 5 before us so we thought that we would get the second table however to our surprise after 25 minutes of waiting and a extra 5/10 minutes of waiting for the table to be cleaned the bouncers gave our table away to the group behind us even though the bouncers said that we would be next two groups that would be in when the two tables had left. I find this rude and unprofessional letting other groups in before people who has had been queuing longer in the rain may I add. It’s ridiculous!

We were stood outside the door for ages before anyone came. Someone finally came, asked if we could have two tables as were understanding of the covid rules of 6 to a table (were one family of 8 who all live in the same house) and said we couldn’t even if we’re one family? Even though we literally called the day before to ask if this was alright and they said it was fine! Not happy, rude staff and definitely will not be returning. PS thanks for the waste of a 2 hour car parking ticket!

It is a great place beautiful surroundings the café lovely but the menu needs to expand as to offer more variety we have been many times and we find the same limited options on the menu not even salads on offer or variety of fillings fot sandwiches a bit disappointed the place had so much to offer and with a rewiew of the Cafe menu and other essentials it will be a great success and venue for afternoon teas or lunches considering there are so many chefs things could be improved for the success

Myself and my boyfriend visited the Courtyard on 25 October 2020 for dinner on our recent visit to Scarborough, food was very good - I had the the steak and ale pie and my boyfriend ordered the vegetable burrito! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and food good - what more can you ask for. Would recommend.

Called here for a coffee. The waitress " because we weren't having a meal and only a third of the tables were taken" was extremely rude. She said you can sit there or there and put a menu on the table saying she would be back. After which we were ignored. 10 minutes later we got up an walked out. ,

My fiancé and I visited here each night of our holiday for drinks. The bar is modern and clean, with a fantastic outside courtyard. The covid- secure measures seemed great.

We had an evening meal here after failing to get in to anywhere else - and we were glad we did!The staff were lovely, giving us a warm welcome. The food was excellent and fairly priced. This isn't a disabled friendly venue, but if you bear that in mind you won't be dissapointed.

Did not book. Just rocked up. Was found a table. Ordered 2 steaks. Food came out in good time and hot as it should be. The portions were very generous. Steak was cooked as ordered. Nice and tender.

We always pop in here if we have time didn't thk we'd get a table during covid so busy times but we did the food didn't dissapoint as usual hot fresh tasty food we love it

Everyone apart from the bar staff who were very accommodating and friendly treated their customers like dirt on their shoe I went in for a meal and some drinks afterwards with friends and ended up getting kicked out by a tall bald bouncer because I walked into the toilet where people were doing drugs turned to walk back out as I didnt want any part of that and then got told I had to leave. When I tried to go back to my table he rather rudely shouted at me to leave or he would call the police. This kind of ruines the night for us if you end up reading this sort out your staff otherwise I wont be returning

We visited last Christmas what a vast improvement. The Covid-19 arrangements are extremely well thought out and implemented. Well done guys!!! The service is excellent and very friendly. Menu very good and food tasty and good value. The bars good choice lovely lagers. Great beer garden. Well done to all

Nice pub with lovely Court yard. Track and trace and hand sanitizer upon entry with tables well spaced for social distancing. Slightly disappointed no bottles prosseco but enjoyed a drink in the court yard.

We came to the courtyard for tea over the weekend. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. We were seated out side which was really nice. And the food was lovely. Woud definatly recommend. Prices of food & drinks are reasonable. Had a lovely meal out with family

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here on our visit to Scarborough, sat outside on a lovely day, played nice music, staff were friendly, ordered the fajitas and they were excellent, huge portions! Only slight criticism is that the outside areas could do with a bit of a tidy up/refurb as furniture looking a little tired, but overall very nice lunch and time here.

Came the other day for drinks and a snack.To be fair we did not rate our trip, due to Covid I would have expected to regularly see staff clearing tables of pots and glasses, cleaning tables. This did not happen.We were treated at the door by a girl who looked like she didn’t want to be there, she pointed out the sanitiser and a table and that was all. At the bar there was no idea where to queue just people stood around in the area. I ordered the mini nachos, although they looked nice on first appearance and they were swimming in water at the bottom, and the cheese was one huge lump on the top. Our plates were left on the table 45minutes before I took them inside myself! The smoking area is right in the middle of the yard so smoke blows everywhere whilst people are eating. Toilets weren’t clean, mirror was all spot marked and bits all over the floor like it hadn’t been checked at all that day. I also found certain members of staff rather rude. Place is alright for a few drinks in the garden out of the way but nothing more. If distancing was clearly outlined and more cleaning was regularly done then I would have been happier.

It was our second time visiting this place, merely because of the courtyard place they have outside.I need to say that the first time we visited was last year on a Sunday for lunch, and the food was simply deplorable we left everything in the plates... But what surprised me was that no one from the staff even bothered to ask why we left the food. This time we had all this protocol for wipe our hands, but I saw tables being used with no one cleaning them. ..so much for THE 'COVID safe venue'.After a couple of drinks which with 3 staff members, we still had to go to the bar to order the drinks... Once again not very 'covid safe' In this time, table service should be mandatory, they definitly had enough staff for it. So after a few drinks we though to order some food... Big mistake. I actually wanted a burger but after the first experience I've decided for something easier to do. Skin chunky chips, mini nachos and rump steak strips (which I asked medium rare) we though... This they couldn't mess up.... I was wrong.So the chips- 5 or 6 chips soggy and no seasoning. Mini nachos - they came drowned in what I think was chopped tomato souce, with a weird cheese on top, heated on a microwave... Soggy, and crap.The stripes - well done not medium rare, and probably heated also on a microwave, and totally bland.The service - well I had to ask for plates salt and after trying the strips and chips, also some ketchup, like the first time we literally left all the food there and no one bother to ask why.A word of advice.... Fire the chef, and provide proper training to the staff.

Went with a couple of friends today, friendly young girl greeted us.. Lovely place, outside area is very relaxing. Our first time our since lockdown so was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately the meals really let it down for us. Only a handful of people in there as it was early.. Waited ages for meal.. These so called trendy chips (skins on chunky chips) are horrible!! About six chip only anyway so that was a blessing.. Burgers tasted like cheap homemade stuff. No seasoning, no onions, just a lump of rubbery cold cheese on top. Salad was limp and old, also no dressing or onions.. Really, really, DISAPPOINTED.. Heard other customers complaining about thier food and salad as well..Won't be returning. Shame as it's a lovely place but they really need to sort the rubbish food out.

Although the outside sitting area was lovely and the food was of good quality, many of the staff were fairly rude to me and my family. The blonde girl on the bar was very polite was welcoming but unfortunately the rest were not so nice when serving us.

Was nervous about venturing out in the middle of all this madness, especially on the first day of reopening. Couldn't have been less stressful, everything explained on arrival, clear signs,attentive staff observing social distancing,felt very relaxed. Had seen information on fb on what to expect,very impressed. Well done to you all.

New years day, 2.15pm refused entry all because I had a pair of jogging trousers. Respectable 52 year old after a bite to eat with the family. I can understand a dress code on your weekend nights, but when your shopping in town you wear what is comfortable, eaten regularly in this venue, certainly wont be eating with them again and not recommending to friends or business acquaintances.

Very tasty food,there is a section on the menu where certain dishes are £6 I think ,polite staff and always clean ,but the outside area not so good ,might have been the time of year ,but we'll worth a visit

Called in on a Tuesday; quiet but unsurprising for 2pm on a Tuesday. Disappointed by lack of real ales but the IPA was very nice and refreshing indeed. Ordered beef wrap; service was prompt without being rushed. The food was delicious; steak well cooked, nice floury wrap, generous portions of crisps and salad. Salad was a little limp and not dressed but the steak more than compensated. Staff (lady) professional and friendly without being overbearing. Music at just the right level. Did not sit outside so can’t comment on the outdoor area. Toilets clean enough but dingy and could do with a refurb (paint missing from doors, generally felt ‘tired’). All in all would certainly return.

Visited today and won’t be going back.Asked for a slimline tonic as I’m diabetic and the girl behind the bar gave me a normal one.When I pointed this out she said well I gave someone one yesterday and they didn’t say it wasn’t slimline.Deciding on a coffee, which was not very nice,we sat down.The girl behind the bar stood combing her long hair and tossing it around,then went to serve food.She seemed more interesting in putting a show on for a young man stood at the bar than doing her job.We won’t be going back.

Sept 19 & the heating is on! Get a grip & turn it off grrrrr. Absolutely ridiculous at this time of year.

We popped in for a midweek bite to eat as it was central and looked decent. The tables downstairs were mostly taken, the one we did find was sticky, with a wobbly leg and filthy menu. We ended up going upstairs and there was nobody else there! Bit weird. Carpet was filthy, the chairs broken with no support you felt like you were sat on the floor. We both ordered a pie chips and peas...the pie was nice, the chips were wedges and the peas were bullets. It was a decent price but all in all not a pleasing experience and I wouldn’t go back.

4 of us visited the court yard very nice all good meals took while to Come which was good as cooked well near premier inn and grand hotel if went Scarborough again would visit here food very good and big portions really nice many thanks to all staff enjoyable night

We went on a lovely day when there was nobody inside at all, but busy outside. Can’t take dogs inside so sat outside. Had sandwiches and chips. I struggled eating in an area that clearly hadn’t been swept or tables cleaned that day, thought the girl might have asked why I hadn’t eaten my food but she didn’t. I think an area inside could be dog friendly , as it’s nice inside.

Ate on a Sunday evening, food was good.

Go into the courtyard for some family drinks with a new mother and father to be turned away due to the new father wearing joggers, whilst they was serving someone in trackies ! Honestly gobsmacked as used to love it in there but I won’t be returning.

Visit this place for lunch last Thursday with my husband at around 12.30 in the afternoon walked in the place found a table and took a seat discovered the tables inside were rather worn and damaged quite grubby to be honest there were only a table of 2 in at the time

I had to struggle to get in but as I needed to have a small lime with water as it was so very hot as I was in I needed to visit the washroom and I asked them where is the disable toilet. I was rudely told I have climb 2flights of stairs futher the barmaid in an arrogant tone told me if you can enter the pub you can climb to go to the toilet not even a disabled toilet. This pub has a very big courtyard and a huge dinning area on the ground floor and yet there are no disabled toilet. I was insulted by her loudly and in front of about 5 of her beer drinking clients who were at the bar besides those who were in earshot of her. I do not know if she did it because I am a coloured person. Although to enter this place there are disabled handles at the entrance.
