Cafe & Bistro On The Corner in Scarborough

Not very nice. Stunk of grease, everything was sticky including the laminated menus. The Smoo milkshake was horrible and still had lumps of powder in the bottom. I understand it's a typical old English greasy spoon cafe however there still has to be certain standards that need to be met, and this doesn't meet them at all.

After walking past several cafes being full, we took a chance with this one. Now we know why the others were full! We sat down to a very sticky table with menus to match! After going to the counter to order, we saw that there was only the young lad serving and a very elderly lady in the back, bless her. The prices were steep with very little included. Had to pay separately for drinks and toast, after ordering 2 full English breakfast’s and 2 bacon rolls. A bit of a wait, to which the elderly lady came out with our food. The food was poor quality to go along with being poorly cooked. The bacon was still squealing and the fried bread was saturated with grease. They forgot our toast, so after a reminder it came after we had all eaten. It was buttered with stork magerine, which made the toast go soggy. Hate to leave a bad review, but constructive criticism is a learning curve. The young lad lacked confidence. The windows needed to be open to let the smell of lard out that they used back in the day. With some support, hygiene and guidance, and maybe the elderly lady, stepping back a little, this could improve, after all breakfast’s and sandwiches are surely basic. We don’t know about it being no1 cafe, more no 1 cafe for heart disease with the amount of grease left on our plates.

Shocking slow service, miserable staff, unwelcoming.

Called in this cafe at the weekend for a small breakfast. Floor was a bit wet as it had been raining (fair enough we thought) breakfast came the fried egg was swimming in grease had to use a tissue to try & mop most of it up. There seemed to be no air filters in this cafe, none of the Windows looked as though opened. By the time we left our eyes were smarting with the fat/grease and the smell lingered on our clothes they smelled so bad all our clothes had to be washed. They really need to get some sort of air filters in this place.

Had lunch here yesterday. We got 2x Bacon & sausage rolls, Jacket tatty with chilli. The food was was pretty good, nothing special & the prices were reasonable. There were two young lads on the till/service & they were pleasant & well mannered

disgusting service and owners, telling my autistic brother to shut up, considering he’s only young too because he was getting excited then didn’t care that she was being discriminating, then staff were being very abusive to my parents and grandparents and making threats. wouldnt ever recommended this awful place at ALL

Have 2 grandchildren with autism and they were getting a bit excited waiting for food owner came out and told us to shut them up not even in a nice way we apologised and let it go next minute she came back screaming shut up or get out there we’re 11 of us in total preparing to spend over £100 I said is our custom not good enough she said no unless you shut them up one was 2 and the other 3 years old it’s say on the door dogs welcome which is great but no good if you have kids 2 young lads serving were verbally abusive certainly would not recommend if you have children

Let’s start with a good honest review as always the place has a old lady front of house that looked like she would rather be anywhere else we ordered 2 breakfasts an orange and a tea the lady forgot the tea after waiting 10 mins for it I went and reminded her and she rude and disrespectful snapping at me over all the place is filthy with bugs and cobwebs and lastly there was a couple with the pet dog sat on the table next to us when I made a complaint the little old dear said it wasn’t her problem so tbh I’d AVOID!

Lovely little cafe, had tea n toast as a little mid morning snack in between shopping. Very reasonable prices, nice n clean inside . Great service

We discovered this homely little cafe some years ago. We've been a few times since on my birthday, the prices are quite good, the food is delicious, generous portions and plenty of tea. The lady serving is always friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit if you are at Scarborough.

This establishment didn't have a functioning toolet when I visited. I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich and a coffee. When the sandwich arrived, the bread was piping hot as if it has been stale and had been absolutely nuked in the microwave. The place was staffed by two perfect pleasant young lads who because they only looked about 15 or 16 years old I felt it would be useless to complain. I certainly won't be rushing back

Fantastic Breakfast, very good value for money and the Elvis tribute was superb. Staff were lovely and friendly. Well worth a visit!

Having called in this ""cafe"" today for ""breakfast"" to be met by a very aged struggling lady on the till who took our order her attitude not nice or friendly we gave our order for a large breakfast and a small breakfast which when they cum out did not look nice sausage cheap and nasty cold plum tomatoes frazzled chewy bacon crispy cremated black pudding eggs looked like they had been flattened by a steam roller and the fried bread so greasy its a heart attack waiting to happen on a plate it looked like had been fried several times and left sitting in the fat even the pot of tea wasnt great cups were dirty. In fact its two years since i was last in that cafe the food and service still as bad as last time the cafe feels like its stuck in the 1970's and needs complete revamp to bring it in to the 21st century including repainting inside new tables chairs and a new younger front counter staff who has the energy enthusiasm politness to deal with a busy cafe not an elderly lady who didnt seem able to cope as cafe got busy long waits for food drinks to come out which resulted in either food or drink cold and when mentioned to lady on counter her reply was none existent. It seems like they are serving the cheapest produce yet charging dear prices for cheap food.The only reason we stopped here as i was in pain with my knee but I am sorry i did not persevere thru the pain and find a cafe that served edible food and served drinks in clean cups I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS CAFE.

It's a proper greasy spoon cafe. No frills, plenty of swirling fat on the breakfast! Service was OK, Price was OK but it's not an arty farty kind of Brunch Bistro and don't expect granary toast, smoked salmon or eggs Benedict! It's kinda like what you what of got in the 1970's and it's not changed since. Dog Friendly though!!!!!

We thought we'd give this one a try as my dicky knee was playing up and we were a fair walk from our usual and favourite cafe... I wish I'd have walked thru the pain. The service, food and attitude was shocking. If there was an option for zero stars they would barely be getting that. We almost demanded a refund... lesson learned

Absolutely shocking service 🙄 food cold and cheap tasting. The woman serving needs a lesson in customer service as i asked her where my toast was and got the answer....well i didn't know you ordered it (it actually came with the veggie breakfast) just a bad attitude......avoid....im off to get some decent food jow as left most of it.

Food was excellent, will definitely use again when I'm in Scarborough.

Lovely experience this morning. Kids both had a small breakfast and a Fruit Shoot each. The breakfasts both looked really nice and had been cooked perfectly. Both adults had the large breakfast, this had black pudding and a hash brown included. We also had a pot of tea for 2, all this was well under £30. The lady taking the order was very friendly and service was excellent. I would recommend to anyone and we will definitely return on our next trip to Scarborough.

It's a shame about the service because the food itself isn't bad. Lady serving completely set a bad mood, she just looked like she didn't care or want to be there. Bit pricey but that's OK for the food quality. Food was great, but you would want to feel welcomed and relaxed when entering a cafe with your family

Worst place ever,sure I've already reviewed this so not going to go into detail again other then it ain't even worth the 1 star absolutely vile place and vile rude staff.. ( lady who works out front was just rude & looked asif she didn't want to be there) avoid at all cost I'd rather go hungry then ever step foot back in there

unfortunately we stumbled upon this place on a Saturday afternoon when looking for a place the kids could have some lunch. First impressions were that it needed a lot of TLC. table was dirty and someone had a serious obsession with Elvis. We sat down and proceeded to look through the menu to find everything a little pricey. we ordered 3 sandwiches, fried eggs on toast, 2 children's meals and a portion of chips. Firstly the cheese and pickle sandwich tasted funky and the unfortunate person who ate this had a bad stomach for the rest of the evening. The Tuna sandwich contained tuna that had not been drained at all so was very salty and watery. the sausage and bacon sandwich was cheap produce, the sausage tasteless and the bacon like rubber, Eggs on toast came with fibres on the plate, when we requested this to be rectified the horrible lady working front of house proceeded to blame someone else, slumped it on another plate and added a dog hair to the toast for good measure. the chicken nugget kids meal was inedible. the chicken smelt awful and I would honestly have been held on child neglect charges if I allowed my daughter to eat them. The chips for £3.50? they were the cheap frozen Iceland ones that I could've got for a quid down the road and cooked them 10x better myself. They serve ketchup and brown sauce are passed off as Heinz and HP but you would probably find better quality condiments at Crows Funfair. overall the staff were rude and very obnoxious and the food was made with no care or attention at all. Trading Standards and Food Standards would have a field day with this place. the only upside were the cold cans of coke that they had no power over ruining. Genuinely £30 down the drain.

Literally the worst cafe I've ever been too... staff were awkward like the vibe was off.. food was dreadful and service was horrendous.. found fibres in my food so she swaps my food onto another plate... for her to give it back and say it was just a fibre and blamed another staff member to then find what looked like dog fur attached to my toast.. felt like I couldn't complain and staff didn't seem nice so left the food and left wasn't happy about spending £30 on food that was vile frozen cheap chips the lot.. will never ever attend and highly recommend no one else does

If I could give them 0 stars I would. From the moment my family and I walked in the vibe was awful. Old lady at the front of cafe was rude, didn't look happy at all and was severely ignorant, wouldn't harm her to put a smile on her face and serve customers without the attitude. Place was filthy. Food was disgusting, £10 I spent on a coffee and tuna sandwich, coffee was lukewarm and tuna sandwich wasn't nice at all, they didn't even drain the tuna properly. Sister had a hair on her plate and when we told the woman she proceeded to say it was just a fibre and blamed someone else for it, took the food back to put food on clean plate to bring it back with yet another actual black hair that looked like it came from a dog. Food was way overpriced for the quality, the place needs shutting down. Wouldn't recommend going here at all. I'd avoid it no matter how hungry I was.

Good cafe, great price on breakfast. Pot of tea was very ample. Lady did us a amazing gesture and gave our olde tyme English Bulldoge a free breakfast and drink ant no extra charge. Throughly enjoyed.

The food was prepared quickly and was lovely. The coffee was good too. My wife has been here a number of times, but it was my first visit and I enjoyed popping in for a hot sandwich! I also bumped into an old friend who I hadn't seen in over 5 years. Well worth a visit.

Rude staff who won’t let paying customers use their toilet!!!! Having brought drinks and cakes in the cafe and finishing them I asked if I could use the toilet. The old rude lady said I wasn’t a customer to which I replied I was and what we had had and where we were sitting. She then said we all weren't customers to which we replied our 2 teens had just come in from walking round the shops and had joined us. However 4 of us and 4 items meant I didn’t qualify to use the toilet! We were going to have more drinks and get the teens food and drinks too but we left having felt embarrassed that I dare need a wee after eating and drinking at a cafe!!!!!

while at seaside i went for food with my mother & son it was decent food & ran by a lovely old women whom we had a nice chat with yes would go back again cheers

I gave one star for the mediocre coffee but due to the customer service from the assumed owner I was unable to give more and would not use this cafe especially if you need the loo, I sat with my wife and had a coffee and a packet cake each while she fed the baby. Our teenage daughters had met us as we were leaving but first my wife needed the toilet so asked where the toilet was. The owner said she wasn’t a customer and was unable to use the toilet even though we had brought stuff, then she said our daughters were not customers so my wife couldn’t use the toilet due to that as well. upon myself stating we have brought food and told her where we were sat she continued to say we’re weren’t allowed to use the toilet, my wife walked back to our seat. When questioned by another customer what was said the owner then said she could use it very abruptly with no apology nothing .She was very rude and lacking customer service skills. We will not be returning to the cafe.

Cafe very dated and old fashioned. Prices cheap, food basic (but ok), but elderly lady serving is ignorant and needs to learn some customer service or retire. We will not be back in this cafe and definitely do NOT recommend. ☹️

Went with my girlfriend for some dinner the waiter was an under-aged child with a poor attitude towards his work aswell as the bar staff was rude ordered a coffee and took more than an hour for me to decide that I was getting my money back, fish and chips came and was over cooked and chips were undercooked, no manners used in this cafe and aswell as my girlfriend getting a toastie which might aswell have been a mouldy sandwich. Had to get up and walk out to find somewhere else wasting almost £20 as I only got money back for coffee

Not good...took ages to get served and the food is rubbish

Nice food, good prices but be aware the older lady in charge lacks customer service skills and we felt like an inconvenience by giving them custom. Which makes no sense but she was very cold towards us. Don’t have a business which relies on its customers and then treat them badly. I felt like it was personal until I saw the other reviews .

Food was lovely and with a price of £4.70 for 2 sausages 2 bacon 2 eggs black pudding hash brown beans and tomato you can go wrong 2 empty plates from us the elderly lady behind the counter was nice too ignore everyone saying she was horrible for the love of god. Couldn’t recommend more.

Lovely friendly cafe, dog friendly and very welcoming, I had 2 small breakfast and a big mug of tea with extra bread and butter, great value for money at £10 for 2 of us, would definitely recommend lovely quality food and if your an elvis fan, this is where you would come for home comfort food. Returned the following day to try their cottage pie and fresh vegetables, treacle sponge and custard, proper home cooked food, delicious, and great value for money.

Came here as a party of 8! Seemed very much an inconvenience from the moment we walked in. The miserable woman serving had no skills at all in customer services. I understand it was busy and can totally appreciate time taken with things but she snapped at myself and members of our family several times when we politely advised that there were missing items. We will not visit here again! Wouldn't recommend to anyone!

I visited this establishment whilst on holiday with my family. We ordered our food, which came out wrong, the cook then preceeded to argue that we didn't order that even though it was written down. I found the service her worse than poor and I was disgusted that the staff then discussed us with other customers because we complained. Needless to say I won't be going back ever!

It's a greasy spoon cafe. I normally don't mind these. But there was so much grease it was unreal. All the food must have been taken out of fryer and put straight on the plate. I wondered why so many people left half their breakfasts

As title says its not modern and could do with some up to date improvements but apart from that food ok and decent prices,plenty on menu, staff friendly and prompt, we were served by older women maybe owner and two long haired lads as waiters,toilets upstairs,was hot inside and they opened windows but we sat near door as left it slightly open to get some breeze. Soon got busy in there,if you want cheap n cheerful with no spills this is the place to come,we ordered some snacks and drinks for four (2 tap water free) and it cost less than a tenner and for me thats a bargain especially in a seaside resort.would call again.

We always go here. Lesley is lovely. Friendly staff. The food is delicious. Good menu selection. Good prices. Best Milky coffee. You won't need anything till tea time with one of the cooked breakfasts. Toilet upstairs. Give it a whirl and see for yourself.

It’s a corner cafe with a simple menu, but for a quick bite it was good enough. My toastie was cheesy and good, and the scone I added was not exciting but certainly acceptable. Have realistic expectations, and this place is fine for a quick lunch.

Always come to cafe on the corner. Lovely lady who owns it. Very good value and best of all, dogs welcome. Highly recommend.

When I placed my order, they got it Wrong which I understand, sometimes it happens but when I asked for my order to be rectified, I received a soggy, thrown together sandwich with salad that I can only assume had been prepared with an axe.. The prawns were warm and some still had their waste pipes intact. Feeling nauseous.

Firstly the food was ok and the value fair however the issue here was the downright rude staff, asked for something not on the menu (baguette with sausage) and the way we were spoken to by a grumpy older lady was as if we'd asked her for some elaborate unusual dish unsurprisingly our request was refused and we had something else but if ever a business deserves to fail it is this place. don't go here

Came here as a family and unfortunately had a lot of problems. The cafe itself is in a really nice location and is very clean and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are friendly enough, the issue was with the food. First of all, our coffee was forgotten about. Then, a portion of chips were also forgotten about. One member of our party ordered a Veggie Breakfast, and a Regular English Breakfast turned up instead. A black pudding was forgot on two of the other breakfasts, and the toast for another. It was all just a shambles. Aside from this, the staff were apologetic but it was just a huge hassle that sadly put us off returning.

We were needing a place to eat as we were getting tired we wanted a cheaper place to eat and didn't want to have a takeaway meal from KFC or McDolands. We saw this place, it looked a bit run down not many staff at all, dogs welcome step to get in so not pram or wheelchair friendly but room inside of parm and wheelchair. 34 Seats can pay on your card or cash. Go to the desk to order, drinks brought over after 5 mins wait time for meal 15mins, looking outside shops loads of vehicles and people passing by. Food and cutlery brought to the table, Bacon Egg and Chips unsure if the bacon is unsmoked (£4.70) Lasagne and Chips (£5.25) place didn't look it does in the pictures inside very different and outside was blue not green

I walked in the afternoon and had a fantastic all-day breakfast which tasted like home-made. The environment is comfortable and quiet, it makes me feel really peaceful and clam!

I did not think a cafe like this still existed, and was delighted to find it. An extremely pleasant Yorkshire lass asked what we would like to eat or drink. My friend had a very nice tasty fried breakfast, and I had the best bacon roll I have ever had. I would recommend this place. The toilet is upstairs, but there is an alternative toilet over the road, which has downstairs access. All in all a pleasant time, a lovely cup of tea, and some good Yorkshire banter thrown in.

We were directed to this establishment by a local who recommended it. I had the Veggie Breakfast and my partner a bacon & sausage buttie. Both were cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyed. The price was very reasonable too. The only negative is the toilet facilities which could do with a revamp. We would visit there again without a doubt.

Great little cafe, shocked there's not many recent reviews! We had a BLT with chips and coleslaw and was very nice. They have cheap breakfasts and offers like 3 courses for £7.50! Will return again.
