The Moorings in Calderdale

Had a brilliant birthday meal. The lady on the bar was absolutely lovely, chatted to us about mispronounced beer orders (we’re bartenders as well!) on a quiet Sunday night! Had the mixed grill - absolutely great value for £20! Meat was cooked to order (a rarity in the past places I’ve been for mixed grills 🙄) and the portion size was HUGE for the price! Absolutely chuffed. Missus had the Sunday roast wrap - couldn’t finish it but she had great things to say as well! Molto Bene!

I had gammon, chips and egg. What I didn’t order is gammon, egg and chips swimming in grease and old grease at that. Worst food I’ve ever experienced and the place is a dive. It’s a shame because it was once a good place but now this place has been run in to the ground. I can still taste the grease two hours after eating it. 🤢

Filthy dirty, run down and just very depressing. Staff are lovely though.

Very poor, one vegan choice, so so vegan burger and black coffee, frozen fries, poor presentation and the cutlery that was brought was filthy, I will not be returning

Quiet Monday...... Goods good.

First off our food order didn’t go through . 2 chefs in kitchen the girl looked to be doing her job , the chap was in and out the kitchen talking to his mates also in kitchen picking his teeth with a tooth pick discussing , when food finally arrived chicken curry only had a few bits of chicken in it was all sauce and chips no a good experience

Popped in after having a meal locally, should've walked straight back out, any tables empty were strewn with empty glasses and litter. Four drinks £21 which is ok however my first taste of the Guinness hit me like a mouth full of metal.....feeling like it could have been due to the meal I'd just had I took another swig of it and it was awful. My mate tried it and felt the same about the taste. Bearing in mind I'm 58 and have been drinking Guinness for many years all over the World this pint was one of the worst I've ever had. I took it back to the bar and told the barman about it to which he replied that he'd been serving it all day and nobody had complained. He was told that I wasn't bothered about anyone else and that mine was rotten. Landlady came trundling in from being outside smoking, tried some in a different glass and said she thought it was fine. She got the same talk, mine was rotten. I didn't want anything more than I'd paid for however their attitude stunk. I told him that I was driving therefore was only having 1 drink so he could pour me a half pint of Coors (for my sins) and be sharp about it. Only if you wish to be told that you're wrong about the taste of your drink which the staff haven't tried would I suggest visiting this place. Silly people to have such a stupid attitude seeing as each pound is a pound keeping pubs open.

Grim. Has to be the worst instant mash potatoes I have ever had (bland and salty) bangers and mash served on square pancake thing, but they called it a Yorkshire pudding see below for what I call a Yorkshire pudding My partner had the vegetable lasagne just as bad tasteless sauce,too much cheese and about 10 percent vegetable and garlic bread made from a brown bread roll Both 13 pounds each

First time visit and it won't be the last...

A very disappointing experience. We have eaten here before and have been satisfied. But last night we were very disappointed in the food. We ordered a scampi and chips and a gammon, egg, pineapple and chips. The eggs were flat and severely over cooked. The gammon was burned and dry. And turned over on the plate to hide it. The tomato was over grilled too. Looks like the chef forgot about the food whilst it was cooking. Then served up an awful looking plate. The scampi were OK. But in both of our opinion the chips were too big and soggy looked liked they had been warmed up. It is a shame as this bar is in a lovely setting on the canal basin. Will consider very carefully if we visit again

Love this bar right on the canal if you're lucky to get a window seat and the windows are open the breeze from the canal is lovely the staff are brilliant even when under pressure they always have a smile and a friend word for you really looking forward to our next visit

A great place for a drink with a good atmosphere. I had bangers and mash for food. The mash felt like it had been mashed with a brick and the sausages were hard, gritty and overall poor quality.

Check your pints, don't let them skimp you. Barman left a head of foam over the mark. Not a proper pint.

The chips we ordered look like they had been double fried. Or the oil needed changing. Not nice at all. This experience has put us off having a meal here.

It was very nice here, I would certainly visit again.

Steak was tough and the burger was poor quality.

Lovely views!! Really nice seating areas outside. Food was lovely and staff were really friendly. Good all round family pub or if you just want to go with your mates. I went during the day with a hen party

A cheese & onion baguette, with only enough cheese to feed a mouse & no onion, when I mentioned it, no apology just an 'oh right' I shan't be going back

Gorgeous, rustic and dog friendly. Quite a crowd of us met for drinks here, certainly the best place to gather in Sowerby Bridge. Loads of seating both inside and outside. Comfortable and welcoming. Not over priced despite its gorgeous location and popularity. Will definitely be back to try some food as it smelt and looked delicious

Do amazing pork scratchings and food in general as well as being good for dogs but the service can be a bit iffy at times and there better options in the area but overall it’s pretty good

Great spot this, we were welcomed by Erin who is always very friendly and professional. I had the chicken fajitas and my partner had rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend 👌👌

Had a lovely meal here, food was really nice, good choices and reasonably priced, only gave 4 stars as the yorkshire wraps were a little dry and maybe could have benefitted from having gravy poured inside as well as the little jug of gravy, also my daughter had ordered the veggie option and was given a meat gravy which she hadn't realised until she had poured it onto her food. I had been given the vegetarian gravy, simple mistake as they did look similar. The staff were nice and friendly and we did enjoy our experience, we will return.

Great food and great service. We popped in on a Tuesday late afternoon and I had the steak fajitas, with a side of chips (the chips weren't necessary but we're absolutely delicious!)

Reasonable quality, ££, nice location by the canal basin and view of the boats. Parking, free, nearby

Garbage. Going towards £6 a pint, very limited old fashioned menu, no Sunday roasts and the toilets stink. No Sunday roasts available, bloke behind the bar said there was no call for it, but I head at least 20 people ask for it. Ended up having a roast baguette, baguette a few days old and served with rubbery fatty turkey and gravy as thick as water. Came with 5 roast potatoes that were stale and were clearly not fresh. Ended up leaving the lot and went elsewhere. This was a great pub in its day, but sadly has fallen into the gutter. Plenty of other pubs/bars in SB this that are a mile ahead of the moorings.

4 stars for atmosphere because the place was very quiet when we were there. Food was lovely, the chips were amazing. Reasonable prices. There was 3 of us and including drinks or was just over£50.

A fairly quiet place after a noisy restaurant (elsewhere, not here) experience.

Waited 40 minutes for a sandwich. Unfortunately the order hadn’t gone through to the kitchen. Refund requested but the landlady’s attitude when challenged that only food refunded was not the best! Nothing she could do apparently! We had already bought 2 rounds whilst waiting and would’ve had to get another if we’d waited any longer! Will not go back!

Table 5 has the best view in the pub across the canal. Lovely inside. Ordered some pale ale which was lovely, plus some chips which had been cooked 3 or 4 times over. Lovely atmosphere. Popped back in March 2024. Busy Easter weekend. Food okay. Good selection of drinks.

Nice little pub went for a group in the evening played a few games with some good people, friendly bar staff easy to find with plenty of parking would heartily recommend 👍

It's a excellent place to drink and eat. Lovely settings also, staff are great. Highly recommended.

Err no to the food. very average, bar meals basically with a lot of stodge. Not for me. Shame the pub round the corner closed too. Moorings, you could do better. Nip round to Roast and toast who know how to prepare and serve much better quality meals.

nice location in the canal wharf. Ideal for a nice walk by the Canal Returned to The Moorings today having visited previously for a drink. Decided to have a meal this time. A beef yorkie wrap,mixed grill and a Sunday roast were all very nice! The lovely lady who served at the bar and bringing food was attentive and very friendly whilst working very hard,nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be back. A++++

What a lovely afternoon wander, the geese going onto the busy road is excitement you don't need!

I've called in a couple of times recently with dog and child as part of an afternoon walk along the canal path. They let dogs in, the staff are friendly and the cheeseburger really hits the spot. They do their own session beer as well which is very drinkable.

Great pub! All the staff are so kind and friendly, it really feels like a family and that customers are friends. Fantastic weekly quiz with Johnny on a Friday. Food is also great!

This is a pub with real character! The food is amazing and drinks prices are a real pull too. We love the style of the decor and the staff are really friendly. Nowadays there is another attraction and its Johnny's quiz! Not to be missed cos its so much fun. You dont need to be brainy to join in as the questions are so varied and anyone could win with all the twists and turns. Using tablets that Johnny provides, he guides you through using them, so you dont need to be tech savvy. Its fast but with lots of breaks in between the rounds to go and get drinks. Oh what a night!

When on a first date was made to feel welcome. Price of food very good we couldn't eat it all I'll be going again top marks given id give more if I could would highly recommend a vist to the morrings bet its a busy pub in summer.

food was pretty poor although we only had dirty fries. they were expensive for oven fries. the place itself was very nice and had a great atmosphere nice beer good for nice walk down the canal. dogs are welcome too which is a nice touch.

Not surprised only 8 people in..not the best..not impressed Frozen cooked chips..cheap sliced bread hard from being left out of the bag..could go on but can't be bothered..a bit like the owner I suppose

Awesome medium sized pubs with a good mix of classics and interesting choices like Yorkshire pudding wraps?! Good value as well.

The curry I had was without doubt thee worst curry I've ever had , mixed up and stird up so much that the chicken pieces were broken up into strings, and it was like a stodgy stiff blob in the stainless pan it came in, on top of that I burnt my finger on the pan, the napkin under it was burt brown near the handle

We stopped on a bike ride and decided to grab some food, we ordered the small plates as we were particularly hungry which turned out to be a good thing The food was below standard The nachos had been microwaved to a inch of there lives I actually thought they were stale

The Moorings put on a very enjoyable reception for a birthday celebration with a good buffet which was enjoyed by all.

Give this place a miss. Ordered fish and chips and the chips and fish had little black bits in it. Old stale oil and dont think it was cod or haddock coz it was nice. The peas were over cooked. Wont eat here ever again. Only gave it 1 star coz you cant give less.

Lovely pub, went for a quick bite to eat for lunch and opted for a hunters chicken wrap. The chips were home made, chunky and very nicely cooked. The wrap was nice but a little bit lacking on filling, but good none the less and good value for money too. Pint of San Miguel was decent. It was quiet when we came, service was quick and tables etc were clean. Would certainly return to check out other menu items.

Absolutely disgusting food, steak was off and stank. Fish and chip portion was worst than a small child’s. The staff are rude and arrogant - would avoid at all cost.

Had a nice pleasant lunch and drinks. Can't wait to return...

Was a bit dubious about the 2 steak meals with a bottle of wine for £25, but very pleasantly surprised by excellent quality food and wine , far better than I expected and an absolute bargain! I'll be back !!! 😋

Food is shocking!! Burnt and dry chicken strips, an assortement of uncooked and dead frozen chips, bbq tasted like fish, wraps are small and basically filled with only salad. When we questioned the burnt food, apparently that's how its meant to be 😂 Very cheap food and it still isn't worth the money!! Worst meal I've ever had!

Not eaten here but stopped for a drink whilst walking the canal many times. Dog friendly. Reasonable prices and good outdoor seating.

Great pub with friendly staff. The food is very tasty, filling and cheap. The view over the Marina/Boat Moorings is amazing with a great view within the Calder Valley. Overall I would highly recommend this place!

Saturday 13th May 2023 Visited this pub on the Rochdale canal This pub sold only 2 handpumped beers Pub was good pleasent interior the beer we had was good and sadly in a soft plastic pint glasses For reasons of only 2 had pumped real ales on and plastic glasses 4 stars were awarded only😩

Used to be such an awesome place. But standards have dropped. We popped in during a dog walk and took a table outside. Whilst the beer was good the food was absolutely appalling. £8 for sharing nachos I don’t have an issue with. What I do have issue with is a dish that feels thrown together with incredibly poor ingredients. An absolute demonstration of poor quality

This is one of the old warehouses that has bee converted to a restaurant / place to eat. Lovely coffee and friendly staff. The food menu looks good but we only had coffee.

Had a hair in our chicken and never even got an apology, just said we will get u some fresh chicken, couldn’t see anyone waring hair nets or anything in the kitchen either. Nice pub but not great service.

Cremated meat, order part-forgotten, Yorkshire pud that hadn't risen. A very disappointing meal.
