What a gem of a place.... The chef called Dan I think is a food maestro. Great service and top notch lovely food and good choice of beverages

We booked this lovely pub for our Aunties ‘wake’. Everything was absolutely perfect, staff so helpful and very friendly, buffet (for approx 30) was beautiful - all extremely tasty, freshly prepared and great selection. Lovely atmosphere too. Very impressed, thankyou so much team Montgomery!

Incompetent staff, said they put my name down for Xmas day weeks ago to find out they hadn't even bothered.

Had a lovely meal tonight. Choose steak . Was cooked med to rare .which i asked for . Good wine to go with it . Staff very helpful and welcoming

Popped in for a drink recently. A very friendly welcome was much appreciated. It was quiet for mid week, but still had a good buzz. I plan to return for food when it's busier.

Staff rude as hell on the phone. Cant listen to a full sentence without interupting half way, meaning thry dont know the question your wanting to ask as they diddn't let you finnish what you were saying before jumping in and being rude. Then has the audacity to call you rude for not letting them but in. I'm sure the food is great. I never got that far. Took my payment, accepted my order and then cancelled it after half hour of waiting for a ridiculous reason that could of been sorted in seconds had they called me up to discuss. So now waiting up to 5 days for my refund and no food. No need for the rudness. Sort it out!! Would never of posted reveiw had you not had an attitude from the past.

Amazing food, gorgeous vibe, staff where so attentive. Couldn’t do enough for us. Honestly wish we lived closer so we could visit more. Patsy was amazing and really made our visit so much better.

Absolutely fantastic.. staff and food amazing! The staff are so helpful and accommodating. We found this pub on google maps as we are staying close by for the weekend. There was no funny look as we are not familiar faces. The pub itself is lovely. We are travelling with a disabled family member so we got a taxi back to hotel but they didn’t mind collecting us even though it was a very short distance.

Called here for lunch today with our little dog.,havent been for a long time as we are not local.What a great little gem , the food was second to none, myself and Vaughan ordered 3 small plates and a lasagne between us,everything was perfect.One of the nicest tapas we have had for a while.The lady behind the bar was very pleasant,qnd the chef came and asked us if we enjoyed it, all i can say is 10out of 10 for the food and service.We will be back, highly recommend.thankyou.Karen,Vaughan and Meeka.

Flavourless, not worth the price at all.

Been wanting to go to this place for some time an decided to go tonight for dinner, we waited 20 minutes for someone to come an place our order then another 40 minutes for our starter to arrive, I had to go the bar to place another drinks order because staff didn't serve us, all in all we were there for 2 hours for just a starter an main, food wasn't as nice as I thought pie very runny an I had to go back up to ask for my gravy they forgot to serve, very disappointed with the whole experience will not go again oh an very expensive for just pub grub

Beautiful pub, went for Sunday roast which was well presented, had the roast beef which will say was a little tough to say the least could of been cut thinner, the roasties were soggy, that said the sticky red cabbage was beautiful as was the side order of cauliflower cheese, being honest I wouldn't rush back. Would recommend the sticky toffee pudding.

Having previously been there for lunch in the last 6 weeks , I went back with a friend for dinner, I told her about our previous enjoyable meal we had, and recommended that we go there, this time after a longish wait the waitress finally came for our order, she apologised for the delay and explained that there was only one chef tonight ( cause of the delay ) we placed our orders when it did arrive the chips accompanying the meal were a dark brown colour, greasy, and not properly cooked through, my friend who ordered chicken pie, her meal was cold and some the chicken didn’t appear to be fully cooked, we pointed this out to the waitress and after consultation with someone offered a 20% reduction which we accepted, with hindsight we should have rejected and asked for our meals to be replaced with properly cooked meals. We left most of the meal uneaten. After the experience I wouldn’t go there again and certainly couldn’t recommend the place to anyone.

Excellent pub with a great, relaxed atmosphere. Although the football was on, it was on mute with music on low. This allows you to enjoy the sport while also having a conversation with the people around you. Food is good and at a very reasonable price.

Stopped here for a quick bite at lunch. Great service and the food we had was excellent. We ate lightly; soup and chicken liver pâté and both were very tasty. They also do more substantial offerings at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere too.

One of the best meals I've had in years and I only nipped in as it was somewhere close to the hotel serving food. A friendly welcoming atmosphere but the food was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the small plates as the Teriyaki belly pork is out of this world. Already recommended to friends who live relatively close by and if I'm ever passing by again, I'll be coming back for sure.

Not visited The Montgomery for a while, the kitchen has always been slow, but under new management (I believe) decided to give it another try. Waited about 40 minutes for the food, which they got wrong. I ordered three small plates, the hubby a burger, but they brought out two of the small plates as a starter. We then had to wait again for the third small plate and the burger. Had the food been delicious, it wouldn’t have been as bad. The pork bites were chewy, the Katsu Curry powdery and the fries cold and soggy. The burger was greasy, no ask on condiments. With no table check and therefore chance to voice our concerns we left. Terrible shame as it’s very pleasant inside, just won’t return for food.

Have eaten a couple of times here now and the food is excellent what let’s it down is the service wait ages for the food when you get it it is cold and even end up going to the bar to get your own drinks no one seems to be in charge there is 3 or 4 staff but no-one seems to know what is going on

Great Mother’s Day lunch yesterday. We were a large table of 10 and we all had a lovely time. The roast was nicer than another local we had a few weeks ago. It’s great to see it back open, we will return.

Best Sunday lunch on the Wirral. I’m not one for reviews but this place is a must visit. We went for Mother’s Day with the family and it had an amazing atmosphere, there was a singer on and it made for a lovely chilled out vibe, then the big game was on afterwards, it’s a really lovely place and I can only say good things about the place and the wonderful staff.

The food was not bad but I've had better. Kitchen didn't run as a team there didn't seem to be any organisation, and don't want to hear staff swearing. Not sure if I would go back.

The steak was perfect and cooked perfect. The chips were delicious really enjoyed the meal would definitely order again 😀

Dropped in here for lunch on the way to Eastham Ferry. Looks like it's been refurbished recently as everything looks new and very clean. They have a fireplace with a roaring fire that gives out a fair bit of heat. Pleasant staff and very nice food and drink which was reasonably priced. Recommend the steak and onion with cheese on a baguette.

Met some friends here for dinner for the first time. I can't recommend it highly enough. The atmosphere was so pleasant and cozy and the staff were very friendly. All 3 of us had steak and I can honest say it was one of the best I've had in a very long time. I'll be taking hubby and other family back very soon.

We ate here the week before last. It was a Friday night and it was quite busy. The service was slow (1 hour 5 minutes from our arrival to our food arriving) and some of the front of house staff, though not rude, didn't look like they wanted to be there. The wait on the food and the staff demeanour may have been because they were understaffed but if this can be improved then there are plenty of positives. The food was good, well priced and with lots (possibly too much) choice on the small plates. Perhaps cutting back a little on the small plate options will help the kitchen and reduce waiting times. The place is also dog friendly, great for us, and it was nice to see The Monty alive again.

Had a great evening at the Tuesday Quiz night. Food tasty, especially the salt n pepper Sui mai. Staff are friendly and courteous,highly recommend a visit.

Had many a nice meal here and staff lovely, would not normally have felt the need to post a review until seeing how many people with only 1 review leaving bad feedback. This is normally one person with a gripe getting mates to leave false feedback, we have gone since it reopened regularly and its been great

Shocked at the negative reviews recently posted. This lovely village pub has been brought back to life by Gary and his team who are warm, welcoming and attentive. As regular visitors we have enjoyed many meals, drinks and friendly chats and our dog always receives VIP treatment. We love chatting with the staff and meeting fellow Eastham Village residents while enjoying a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Great food by Dan & the team too. Don't believe everything you read, The Monty deserves a chance!

I find this place brilliant: it can be busy and can be quiet, but the food is outstanding - Dan the chef is superb. I speak as someone who ate in Raymond Blanc's first cafe/restaurant in Summertown, Oxford: Bleu Blanc Rouge; . . and who was advised on what delicatessen food to buy and how to prepare it by Antonio Carluccio when he opened his first place - a delicatessen on the Caledonian Road Islington - before he opened his first Carluccio's restaurant. . . . Do not be put off by the small string of awful reviews: come here; enjoy the hospitality . . and love the superb food.

We so wanted it to be good, such a great piece in the globe! But really disappointed in every way. Pretty empty but service really awful, very slow. Had to get their attention whenever we needed something. Food average! Will not waste time and money in this place again. Such a shame

Awful in every respect- don’t bother. Goodness knows who put ‘excellent’ reviews on here…..it is truly awful. Do not waste your time visiting, there are so many more places deserving of your money.

We had been going into the Montgomery for lunch every week and really enjoyed it until last night. They serve a steak in a pasta bowl.They didn't even had any mustard and to top it all the coal fire they kept trying to light was smoking into the pub and setting off the alarm. Only three tables had people at them and all or us couldn't wait to leave. Come on Montgomery get it sorted or it will be closed again with lack of customers.

Been here a few times now and never been disappointed. Came as a party of four during my last visit. There was a mixture of vegetarians, gluten frees and steak lovers and we were all very happy with the quality and quantity of the dishes chosen.

Been waiting for this to reopen with new management, we have just been and the food, atmosphere, new land lady and staff could not do more for you to have an enjoyable time. My husband had the gourmet burger my daughter had fish and chips I had the hunters chicken baguette my son loved the kids beef burger and chips it was all excellent with big portions , we would recommend the sticky toffee pudding. Having been eating at the Monty since it became the Monty, I now believe that the owners/operators are trying to return it to more of a pub. When we originally went it was aiming for a gastro pub/ restaurant feel. Now after approximately eleven years the food seems to be taking second fiddle. Whilst it is well cooked and reasonably well priced the menu is quite sparse, and thus it is no longer a go to choice in comparison to other establishments in the area.

First time here, could not fault it, fantastic roast dinner, plenty of food only reason I didn't completey finish off my plate was because I couldn't eat anymore there was that much, meat succulent, perfect roast, staff very friendly and polite, compliments to the chef, will definitely be returning. Yes there is a 10% surcharge but still think it was well worth it

Walked up to the Monty to have a drink and some casual dinner, but very disappointed. I ordered a Chicken Burger, which was advertised as being on a brioche bun. When it arrived it was actually 3 overcooked and very hard chicken goujons, stacked together on a very plain white floury bun. Not good at all - especially for £12.95.

Popped in for afternoon food and drink. Great tapas or main menu to chose from. Went with tapas - halloumi sticks and fish goujons. Delicious with perfect dressing and just the right amount (there was a deal for three dishes but I wouldn't have managed three due to what I'd eaten earlier in the day!). Lovely, chilled atmosphere and service on a beautiful day. Thank you to all ☺️

Just popped in for some chips and a drink and the staff where lovely! High quality food with lots of sauces to go with. Many vegan friendly options and kid friendly. Not to busy as it is in a small part of eastham so only waited 5 minutes for food and not even 1 miute for drink. Would definitely recommend!

The food here is quite expensive but worth every penny BUT they charge you an extra 10% my bill worked out £80 which I was happy with until the bill come which was £88 at the bottom of menu in small letters it tells you about the extra charge I don’t know another restaurant that does this so even on a pint extra 50p I won’t be returning which is a shame as everything was great

Felt compelled to leave a review, after this restaurant spouting out how good they are on social media. Went for Sunday lunch with family. Food was awful, and service even worse. Cheap quality food came in small portions. Paid extra for 2 meats and was not given them. Ate about 1/4 of food. Asked about extra meat and rude manager pointed at plate and said it’s there! Clearly, it wasn’t!! Very overpriced. Avoid at all costs!!

Had Sunday lunch here. It was really nice. Lovely staff and quick service. Prices were reasonable too.

Found this little gem by accident , but it was amazing , staff were helpful and very friendly, food was a roast dinner, i personally had the lamb roast dinner it was outstanding , the manager Paul was very welcoming, we will be back very soon for one of there famous steaks .

Several years ago we went for a meal there, great food and service, would have recommended it to anyone BUT ..... I went with my husband and a family friend for a meal yesterday. It has changed. The service was poor to non-existent. I ordered the Thai Green Curry. What arrived was possibly a red thai curry but with aubergines and courgettes ?!? When I asked what it was, as it obviously was not a Thai Green Curry, the owner told me that they should have changed the menu last week as they could not get hold of any red peppers !?! Even if that is true, it does not really explain why it was made with aubergines and courgettes. The owner said he would make a reduction on the bill for the wrong meal. He did not. My husband was asked if he wanted another drink, he said no thanks, and the waitress turned away without asking anyone else. Then she returned to snatch our empty glasses from the table. There were desserts on the menu however after our plates were removed nobody came to the table again to ask if we would like any desserts, tea or coffee. After waiting about 10 minutes I went to pay the bill. There was no reduction for the incorrect meal and a 10% service charge had been automatically added. I pointed out that there had been no reduction, as offered, and asked them to remove the service charge. After the bartender had spoken with the owner, who did not come to speak to us again, I was given the 10% staff discount on the bill. I will not be recommending the Montgomery to anyone.

We've always enjoyed The Montgomery, and if I'm.honest we've had amazing food and some not so. But in recent years, since Paul has been running it, it's always been spot on. Had Sunday lunch today and it was fabulous. The meat (beef) was perfectly cooked and the vegetable selection perfect. The staff there are always sming and engaging and overall I'd 100% recommend this place to anyone. 10/10

Myself, my partner and our toddler visited for a family meal. We were disappointed to say the least. Firstly the service was not great we had to go up to ask to order food, order another drink, and pay the bill. We ordered Thai green curry but Thai red curry was given even though this was not on the menu. The curry was not your typical Thai curry dish it was thick included courgette aubergine and served with naan bread. My toddler had chicken nuggets and chips but again the quality was not great. The his meal cost £71 with drinks of white wine, a beer and half a pint of juice. The price does not reflect the quality of the food served.

Paul the owner is so helpful. It was a great experience and the staff are very friendly too.

Firstly Food was great. Service could have been better, I have to say the worst pint of Guinness going which was served in a Morreti glass. I told the waitress who did offer to pour another but I couldn’t accept. Coal bucket full of ash as you go to the toilets. Male staff member not do clued up on drinks and what wine was available. Not great look when you walk in and staff wearing north face fleece whilst serving. Overall food great, the rest hmmmmm

Turned up after a 20 minute drive to show my mum the Montgomery pub. Google said open the door said opens at 1200 but it wasn't. As a Montgomery I would like them to change the name of the pub now or at least update their opening times so they don't waste peoples time!!!

Having visited this pub a few times now with the wife and our cocker spinial ronnie I Have to say the steak is excellent value for money as a big steak eater this has to be the best .Barmaid allways brings treats and water for our dog. Manager allways friendly and welcoming. With so much choice of places to eat in our area this is a great place .I wish the management success going forward as people look to tighten their belts .We for one will definitely be going back regularly.

Good selection of drinks with friendly staff. Dogs allowed in the pub section but not the restaurant. A big car park with outdoor seating in a beautiful little village.

Perhaps a wake isn't the most appropriate function to judge the quality of a restaurant/pub but the staff at the Montgomery were fantastic - so helpful and accommodating. The buffet meal was also excellent and very good value for money.
