The Fox and Hounds in Wirral

A wonderful place to dine or just pop in for a drink. Very friendly staff, lovely surroundings and plenty of choice. A really nice outside area, a great little bar and seating area at the back, or a wonderful conservatory for dining, this place has it all. Great menu and nice to see that they support local breweries also, as well as a good selection of beers, wine, rum and whisky!

We met my disabled cousin for lunch as the facilities are fine for him. Our meals were excellent, service efficient and welcoming. Well done 👏

Really sorry to say this have been going to this pub for many years have'nt been for a while was shocked to be charged £13.05p for one double vodka coke and one pint of trappers hat sorry wont be going back anymore

The pub itself was warm and welcoming, with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I could see it being a really nice local to have a drink at. The food itself was quite dissapointing, especially for the price which was quite steep for the quality. We had a selection of courses, some of which were a lot better than others. The roasts were recommended; the soups and cheese selection were also nice, with a good variety; the pie and gravy was very dense and salty which we wouldn't have again.

Food was amazing, very tastey and fresh. The service was great, the waiting staff were very friendly. Definitely one to come back to.

We had a wonderful afternoon with friends. We have been there twice and each time found it the most enjoyable experience. The lovely pub and the plants in the garden are beautiful. Well worth a visit. 🐶 Friendly 😁

Went for late lunch, the menu and food were excellent, service was good. A little niggle with the table for two being somewhat crammed in the corner, this would have been OK and understandable if all other tables were in use, but they were not.

Excellent food, the quality is amazing. A very quaint pub. Always busy and very popular. Table service is very good. Large car park, with two accessible car spaces. A bit tight inside if you need good access though. Worth a visit for the food alone.

This is an excellent pub and restaurant. I'm pleased to say that it still retains the old, traditional bar room as well as a smart restaurant. The food is well presented and really delicious and the portions generous. Yes, you can find cheaper eateries but you're unlikely to find better value. Service is spot on as well. Overall, I can't fault it. Highly recommended.

I've been coming here for many years, I remember when we used to have our lunch in the bar. Over the past few years it has really expanded quite a bit, especially when they built the new conservatory on the side and extended outdoor seating and car park. I brought my walking group here today and they all ordered different meals and all 8 of them commented that they were all excellent. That's not good luck that's talent. I would recommend the Chicken Mughlai and the Steak and ale pie.

The burger was dripping with grease all over the plate, the onion rings and chips were also very very greasy far to oily, deep fat fryer obvs gets alot of action in this pub kitchen

The chicken curry only had 3 pieces of chicken i dont believe there was even 4oz. It was tasty but should have been a squash curry with chicken

Food took a while to arrive but it was worth the wait. Obviously freshly prepared. Would recommend a visit without hesitation!

It's just about my favourite place to eat and sample the real ales and wine. We had a large round table with the fire beside up and views out into the gardens and beyond. Always a great experience

I had an excellent fish and chips my partner had steak pie and it was also very good.

Visited Tuesday, early evening, to celebrate my mum in laws birthday. The staff were extremely helpful and considerate. The food was excellent, it was served piping hot and in good time from ordering. The variety of the menu was brilliant, if you go for the steak & ale be prepared it is a proper pie 👍 I would highly recommend this pub for its food, atmosphere and its ales, will definitely be calling again.

We arrived with no booking but got seated quickly. The lady who showed us to the table and took our orders was really nice. Food was delicious. We both had clean plates and loved it

Good pub, good food. I’d highly recommend trying this place. Busy atmosphere and not rushed. Each time been a good 2/3 hours enjoying a meal. Staff have always accommodated every request, even when I messed up and booked the wrong day they sorted it for me. The pie is one of the best ones I’ve had since the cottage loaf in Llandudno (also amazing). Give it a try.

Recently had a staff Xmas meal at the F&H. Good service, one of the best turkey dinners I have had. Pleasant atmosphere. However, the only downside is the price of the wine! Highly recommended.

Christmas turkey dinner was first class. Our waitress - didn't get her name - was lovely and very friendly and chatty. Definitely will return.

Second time I have been and whilst I can't fault the food the wait both times have been very long nearly an hour today and last August over an hour.Both times we have been told chef off sick and short staffed. I appreciate things like this happen but simply to say when we ordered there would be a wait for food which other places do, it would of made a difference and less likely to complain. Hopefully they can start doing that. The young gentlemen that served us was very nice.

Went here for the 1st time today even though I’ve lived in the area all my life. Had the roast turkey dinner.Without doubt the best I’ve ever had. Sticky toffee pudding for sweet. Absolutely fantastic and couldn’t finish it. Highly recommended

Have the steak pie. Probably one of the best steak.pie and chips.ive had. It came with broccoli and carrots enhanced with orange that were just really nice. The vegetarian option also looked great. Well worth a visit

It was just a wonderful evening, the food was fantastic, staff are great, location is outstanding.

Bustling atmosphere on a Friday night, still plenty of spaces for walk ins though. Even with the amount of full tables, we were seen very quickly and had our drinks and starters in no time! The food as always was incredible, and the seasonal changes since our last visit gave us plenty of new choices. Boar and chicken terrine, Beef shin and the best Tiramisu I've ever had. Incredible value for money considering the portion size, and the staff are always smiling and helpful

Food was first class. Service can be a little slow at times, and they made a mistake with our order, but they way they dealt with it was superb. Highly recommended.

Visited with our family for Sunday late afternoon lunch . Waited for drinks ..one person's starter arrived after everyone else had finished ..waited for mains and drinks ...when food eventually arrived it was enjoyed by everyone . We were told we would need to vacate our table , no time for dessert menu then ?? ...very disappointed and won't be dashing back Had the service been quicker we may have had chance to enjoy a dessert ....

Terrible food. Ate just one bite. Heavily overpriced and a very small choice on menu. Was not even offered a discount for not touching my meal and was told i had to pay full price before i even said anything! Discusting and i advise to try anywhere else!

Went for a Sunday roast . The food was delicious except the Yorkshire pudding, which was inedible. I couldn't even cut it and was so disappointed as just love a good Yorkshire pud! One of our party had the French onion soup as a starter and found it a tad salty and again couldn't eat it. But on the whole the meal was enjoyable. Our servers were very attentive, and we couldn't fault them. The place was full so a booking is highly recommended. Compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area, I found the price v quality not as good. Would I have another meal here, yes, but I think not a Sunday roast.

Fabulous establishment with fantastic food!!!! We had great service from a wonderful young waitress named Gabby who was very friendly and polite. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting some great food with lovely atmosphere and will definitely be returning !!

Lovely food, great service and nice surroundings/decor. We had the bread board, some olives and the belly pork fir starters/nibbles, then a ribeye, cod fillet and the steak pie for mains, all of which were flavourful, decent portions sizes, well presented and hot. There are plenty of options for both food and drinks, with a few nice cocktails on offer too. We'll be back!

Table booked a week ago, arrived a little early but table not ready, we ordered within 10 mins of being seated, our meals arrived 40 mins later, l had fish which was soggy and had to be changed, my wife's roast beef was tuff, the Manger was super, he gave my wife free glass of due the wait, my try again but not on a Sunday.

There were ten of us and they accommodated us easily. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely visit again.

Food was very salty and quite pricey. A bit disappointed to be honest 😔 Wife had the bhaji and I had mackerel pate. Followed by fish and chips. Salt was ridiculous. Don't go if you are on a low salt diet!

Wow, what a place. I haven't been here for many a year, but friends had said how good it was and they were right! It's dog friendly too. What's not to like!!

First time visiting and would definitely be going again 👍food was excellent and service.

A perfectly "nice" place to eat. Like a lot of pubs now, it tries to present itself as a restaurant with restaurant prices to match but the reality is they are serving perfectly adequate home cooked, pub food but it just isn't restaurant quality cooking. It was busy on a Friday night and so the service was a touch slow but they were friendly and reasonably accurate. We were inside and the atmosphere was good but there are very few soft surfaces and it got very noisy to the point where you can only talk to your immediate neighbour on the table by turning towards them and "leaning in" - I would have liked to be able to talk to everyone on the table of 6 more easily.

Booked for Sunday lunch yesterday, and as on previous visits since the refurbishment, the food was fabulous!! hats off to the kitchen staff. On each visit the front of house staff were very welcoming and attentive. The place has a lovely ambiance and long may it last. Brilliant place to go for a meal, will be back soon

Amazing food and good sized portions too. However, no personality to place with service . Pointed out glass for water was dirty to have it replaced with another that had lipstick on it . Would have thought waitress would check it carefully I’d first was dirty . My glass had a large chip missing too. Shared the chipotle nibbles for a starter - so much for one person . Sausages were lovely and so was the sauce .Had the Chile beef and hubby had the pie. The pie came and thought it was choc fudge cake for a moment with sauce on as it was a huge pie slice and gravy ok it. Tasted delicious. Didn’t have room for desserts . Drinks menu and was very extensive and lots of local drinks too .

Visited with family for my daughter’s birthday on a Sunday afternoon. Most of us had the Sunday roast and the meats were just melt in the mouth delicious. The meals were served piping hot and the veg was served separately on equally as hot plates. We all agreed our roasts were the best we’ve had anywhere. Staff were extremely pleasant. We also had the pleasure of watching and listening to a group playing and singing sea shanties that afternoon. The pub itself is lovely and we all will be returning for more of the same.

Came for Sunday lunch today 3/9/23 first time visiting. The food was amazing chicken and beef roast dinners Yorkshire puddings were massive and delicious roast potatoes perfect selection of vegetables cooked to perfection..... delicious. The staff were friendly and very attentive with a smile felt very welcome. Everyone was enjoying the atmosphere happy environment definitely returning have already reccomended to friends. Really nice family birthday lunch for 12 of us. We all had either steak ciabatta, club sandwhich or fish finger sandwich. Good food, really nice setting, good service. Can’t fault it. Not the cheapest but nice for a treat.

Average food, especially side salad full of soggy crutons. We both ordered aubergine parmigiana, tasty and homemade. Came for quick lunch, so we didn't eat anything else. Shared a bottle of house Rioja very nice. Chairs are a little uncomfortable. There are plenty of car parking spaces.

The Fox has been our favourite local for many years, and we still enjoy going there for a drink. The ambience is nice and the staff are friendly and attentive. However, the food prices have been constantly increasing to such an extent that we rarely eat there any more, preferring to dine elsewhere where prices are more reasonable and the choice is better. The steak pie was always a favourite of mine and it used to come with a side dish of fresh vegetables and a jug of gravy. However, I had the pie recently and it was quite dry, there was only a small portion of vegetables on the plate and a small amount of gravy, also on the plate, and I had to ask for more gravy. The cost of the pie and chips is now £18.50! Particularly poor is the choice and price of sandwiches. The sandwich choice has not changed for a couple of years now, but the prices have increased and the cheapest sandwich is now £13.50 which in our view is excessive for a pub, and much higher than elsewhere, which is why we go elsewhere when we want a light lunch. I would have rated the Fox as 4 stars (very good) but sadly have rated it as 3 stars due to the ever increasing prices.

Had two meals here lately the Sunday roast gravy was so sweet it was like chocolate sauce. The second time had the fish pie. Very dry and the potato to fish ratio wasn't good

Had a burger platter which was great tasting and plenty to go around. Free car parking and family friendly atmosphere.

Very good Sunday dinner roast chicken and the roast lamb were tasty the puddings were truly scrumptious the staff very friendly and attentive would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't so expensive

Great place with a lovely atmosphere. Service for ordering was fast although it took 40 mins for the food to arrive from ordering. This was understandable as the restaurant was busy. Can't fault this place great food great beer and super friendly and attentive staff.

A friend & I met for a quiet lunch at the Fox & Hounds. The service was brilliant & the food delicious. My friend had the haddock, chips & peas, whilst I tried the beef burger + Bkacksticks Blue cheese, chips, coleslaw. We enjoyed the food immensely. Unfortunately, there was a party of women at a nearby table. They could not have been noisier if they'd tried. Seriously loud. So, when u book, check there isn't a party of middle aged women at the next table. Then, book & enjoy!

By far one of the best roast dinners I have ever had! With everything being freshly cooked the service can take longer at times but it is worth the wait. The decoration inside the pub is unusual but interesting but it also has a very cosy feeling. Mark the manager goes above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly as possible. Definitely worth another visit!

Friendly, attentive staff. Delicious, well presented food. Our table had Fish pie, Sea bass and the Chilli. All were fabulous. Great wines too. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Quality establishment. Loved it.

Positive: Lovely venue. Negatives: Despite it being less than half full, the service was soooo slow. They got the food order wrong

Next level, far from pub grub. The starters and steak and ale pie was the best I have eaten. The roast dinner was also highly recommended from our party. The desserts well, same again unbelievably good. I can't wait to revisit again soon. 5* from me.

Food is superb. Friendly, laid back Staff but they are completely efficient and professional. Wirral lucky to have this place. But, yes, only caveat is that attached generous car park is, sadly, often over subscribed. Visit for a relative's birthday meal was a very enjoyable experience. Perhaps a Notice about nearby overflow car-parking would be helpful. But is it safe to walk? Citrus candles needed if you sit in, pleasant, outside seating area. Even indoors, we had to deal with a kamikaze wasp. But, truly a smashing place if you place good food over trivia.

Always like the steak pie option in restaurants, at last an actual home made steak pie, not usual huge amount of inedible pastry and very little filling. Fox and Hounds Steak and Ale pie home made pastry nice, filling cram packed with delicious tender beef. Lovely cauliflower cheese, mash and vegetables.

Absolutely fantastic food and service, nice decor and a bit of a fan of the hanging baskets outside. Please consider adding more choice for vegans though.

This was our first time here, there was 5 of us celebrating our Father in law's 90th Birthday. All our food was beautifully cooked and well presented. The pub had a very nice Ambience, and our dog was made very welcome by the Manager, this how pub dining should be, it was an absolute pleasure.

Lovely Sunday lunch with my 90 year old Mum. They were happy for Mum to order from the kids menu as she has a small appetite. We could even bring the dog in. A beautiful setting and a tasty menu.

We booked a table here for 8pm on a Saturday night in May. 2 of our party of 5 arrived slightly early and bought a drink in the bar. The rest of our party arrived and after ordering a drink we were told by our waitress, who I honestly thought was a member of the public the way she was dressed, that our table was ready. Here on in it felt like we were most annoying for our waitress, just the fact she had to serve us. I'd have complained about her attitude and appearance if it were just me and my wife but not wanting to make a fuss etc..The food was nice and came in a timely manner, however we found £6.20 for a pint of local ale very steep. It's such a shame that the main complaint of our evening was the attitude of the waitress, she completely undermined the decent food and attractive surroundings. There's much better places to eat on the Wirral.

Food is a belter, pie is amazing and the roast is the best on the wirral 👏👏👏
