Quite a pleasant pub and restaurant with an attractive menu, also with accommodation. Never really happy when service is added to the bill.

Nice enough pub with ok accommodation. Our room was quite compact with a bathroom separated by a curtain. Upstairs room creaked and you could hear every movement of the people upstairs. Breakfast was of nice quality (a bit cold and so was the coffee) but the really odd thing about the place was the atmosphere, I felt like I was in a school being watched over by the particularly grumpy bar/checking in member of staff. Breakfast was particularly awkward with everyone eating in near silence. When I'd phoned about checking in because we were at a wedding we wouldn't likely be able to come during the designated period I was told I had to because "we're just a b&b" requiring us to leave the wedding to go and just be given a key although there was a key lock box on the accommodation. When I came to pay I had the card machine silently slid towards me. Definitely had the feeling that this member of staff needed a week off because guests were too much trouble. I wouldn't rush back if I'm honest.

Called here just for drinks as we were breaking up a long journey home and the interesting name intrigued us lol. Lovely place with great views and really friendly staff! Dog friendly and the food we saw being served looked delicious, we will most definitely be calling back here to sample the menu when we are next in the area. Great viewing place to watch red kites as well - we saw several huge ones while sat outside, you're so high up you can see them really clearly. Return visit most definitely on the cards!

We were recommended by friends to book accommodation here for their wedding just round the corner. Although the location was extremely convenient there’s a few improvements the rooms could have done. For what you get it’s quite overpriced. Staff, however were really friendly and breakfast was really nice.

We drove from Suffolk for a family get together with my son and his family who live in walking distance and again chose the Mole and Chicken not just because it’s convenient but we always receive a friendly greeting, delicious food and great service. They are great with my 2 yr old granddaughter and have a children’s menu. I always have the roast beef and it is so good. I followed it today with a lemon posset which was a good choice. If you’re looking for somewhere in the area try the Mole and Chicken, it’s not cheap but good value. If you want to sit outside for a drink you’ll be treated to stunning views across the Aylesbury Vale.

I ordered the mussels and they arrived in a carrot and celery soup? Who does that? Where was the wine and garlic, as stated on the menu? The main course was also a complete let down. The belly pork, which I know is fatty but the slim sliver I had was just pure fat, the one carrot and the 10 pence size of potato (not sure what happened to the black pudding?) was ok. But I felt like where is the food? Another family member had rock hard black potatoes under the fish. The staff were not very attentive and rather grumpy. We will not be going back.

My friend had chosen (and boasted) about this restaurant for our party of nine from his excellent previous culinary experiences here. I had chosen the salmon starter, a disappointing pencil thickness piece of tough salmon with a few dobs of beetroot/crisp perhaps, I should have said something then. My mains consisted of overcooked "fish finger" of Cod with luke warm peas and chips this really didn't impress - the fish look like a toilet roll size lump rather than a lightly bread crumbed flaky, translucent piece of cod? How to ruin a British staple? Another of our party commented the same. Our party in general had good meals so my was such a shame as the staff were great, service was quick and the pub and view was fantastic. Perhaps M&C look at changing the fish options!

Enjoyed a really great 2 course lunch today at Mole & Chicken. Being bank holiday Monday, a typical Sunday lunch menu was on offer. My mussels were fantastic, & husbands Duck salad was highly recommended-best starter he has had in some time apparently (high praise). Followed by the sirloin roast with four types of veg! (It annoys me so much when veg is limited on a Sunday lunch) and the Venison pie- pasty lid, not potato (spot on!). Throughly enjoyed our food and the service was on point, with a great atmosphere. Will recommend and return. 5*.

We booked a table for five for midweek dinner. The pub itself is very warm and welcoming, with well spaced tables throughout. The dinner menu was small but offered a good choice for all. All of the dishes dishes were fresh, imaginative, beautifully cooked and most importantly, absolutely delicious. One of our party needed some small changes to their dish and this was handles without issue. Everybody on our table left feeling very satisfied are looking forward to returning soon.

Ate here before Christmas with friends having not eaten here for a while so decided to take my family back for a meal. Unfortunately this time food was a little disappointing, Limited menu, I had the cod and my husband the vegan beetroot dish. Cod with the fish and chips also very small. We both said some odd flavours going on verging on unpalatable in places. Biscuit that went with the Panna cotta was also odd flavour but the sticky toffee was lovely have to say. Portion sizes very small but prices seem much higher. I know its a hard time for pubs and restaurants so felt at didn't want to complain and also spoil the vibe of our meal as were with family who haven't been out for a while and it was our treat. Service was friendly enough but a large party seemed to naturally hog it despite the rest of the pub seeming half empty and with a small child to entertain we really would have liked it to have been a tad quicker. Don't know whether the chef has changed? My husband who hasn't been for ages said he wouldn't return so I wanted to give feed back as might help to not lose others customers in the future as feel that would be shame.

We had lunch midweek; excellent food and good service. Interesting menu and good wine list. This kitchen knows its business, and front of house staff are pleasant and efficient. One small mistake was immediately rectified without any quibbling - everyone makes mistakes occasionally but not all put them right fuss-free. Even midweek out in the sticks it was quite busy, and deserved to be.

We booked the 'best' room with a terrace for two nights to make a weekend of a wedding at nearby Notley Abbey through Booking.com. On arrival the keys for this room were not available and we were instead put in a disappointing room with a very 'old' bathroom whose shower touched your head if you were over 5' 9". The photos online are completely misleading and No, all the rooms have NOT 'been recently refurbished'. When we met our friends in the bar - guess what ? They had our room having also booked the 'best' room through Booking.com. Anyway by the next day they were saying we weren't missing anything as the terrace was tiny and they had an overpowering smell of cooking fat all night from the kitchen extractor right outside their window. The meal on the first night was quite good - above average pub food but not 'up there' with the best gastro-pubs. So I would say, go there for dinner or even better lunch and enjoy the lovely view from the outside restaurant terrace but don't bother staying...

The menu is very tempting making it difficult to choose what to have. The slow cooked lamb starter was brilliant with an unusual combination of ingredients (prune, anchovy, blue nasturtium for example) combining to make it superbly tasty. The crispy duck salad was great as always, and my husband's pork belly with warm celeriac remoulade was delicious. We waited a long time for our meal but we knew when we booked that it was only just possible to squeeze us in, and there were some equipment issues in the kitchen. Our patience was rewarded with some drinks on the house, so we were very happy sat in the evening sun.

Really exceptional pub food. The house beer was excellent and the ambiance was great with cheerful friendly service ; with one exception - we unfortunately encountered a junior member of the waiting team who was of the ‘talk to the hand ‘ brigade, evidently much preferring to spend her time chatting to the barman, which slightly marred the meal. That shouldn’t put anyone coming here however and we would certainly return .

Sadly this visit was very disappointing. The restaurant is under new ownership and frankly underwhelming. The menu main courses only offered one Vegetarian/ Vegan choice (the disappointing cauliflower steak!)…. And although they had a burger on the menu didn’t even have an easy vegetarian alternative to that. . With many people choosing to eat less meat for environmental reasons this menu completely missed the mark. The service was slow and condiments requested never arrived. Even had to ask twice for wine to accompany our meal. We were never asked if we wanted coffee as the staff were too busy messing about behind the bar.Really hope they get their act together soon as is a great location and was a firm favourite with locals pre COVID times.

My partner, 6 month old baby and I went for Saturday lunch and had a 12.30 reservation. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day, and drinks were order relatively quickly after that.It then took the front of house staff 40 minutes to take our food order having asked a number of staff members. We were told that only one staff member was taking food orders and that they were staggering the orders going to the kitchen. They weren’t that busy! When we ordered, we asked why it had taken so long and were rather abruptly told that there were two large tables ahead of us so we had to wait our turn. The tables of people were 5 and 6 so not huge! The starter then took another 30 minutes to arrive. The food was lovely. We both had the goats curd with beetroot. Unfortunately by that point, our little girl was getting restless/tired and so we had to rush out mains which arrived at 2pm. This was because I’d had to ask the staff to start our mains as soon as they’d given us our starters. The food was good but completely let down by the lack of personable staff members who were very unforgiving about us having a young child. Over an hour wait for starters made the whole thing quite stressful rather than relaxing.

Enjoyed a very good dinner with wine. Staff we welcoming and surroundings cosy. While our room (#1), was clean and the bed OK, we were disappointed that the only window in the bedroom could not be opened, even slightly, so the room became airless overnight. This meant that we had to leave the door, onto the pavement, open for a while in the middle of the night. The next morning we discovered that despite this known problem, we were not given a different room - very disappointing.

I decided to give my son and his family a treat and book a roast. The earliest we could eat was 4.00pm. I was not impressed. Despite having two very bored children, the service was excruciatingly slow, even when most customers had left. My grandchildren ordered chicken and chips off the children’s menu, it included seasonal vegetables. Unfortunately, two huge adults chicken mains arrived covered in sauce etc., this was strange as the main menu did not include chicken at all. After a long wait, a piece of the original chicken arrived with just chips and noVegetables. We ordered two adult roasts, 2 pork and 1 sirloin, and we were given only two small veg dishes and still no veg for the children. The meat was quite cold and I felt the food had been hanging around for a long time. It wasn’t lovely and fresh. We ordered 2 sticky toffee puddings and one dark chocolate meringue dish. Very small portions. My grandson polished off the sticky toffee pudding in minutes and he’s not yet 8 years old. (£7.50) I wanted whipped cream and received a little jug of thin tasteless cream. No different to milk really. To sum it up. Poor long drawn out service, heated up food and poor value for money. The bill was almost £133 with a small red wine and a rum a coke. We drove a long way for this meal, but unfortunately, we won’t be returning as we can do so much better locally.

I dine here about once a month and each time usually have the set menu. This has a good choice offering of three items per course, and is very reasonably priced: 2 courses for £14 / 3 courses for £18.Seasonal set menus are also available (Christmas / Valentines / Mother’s Day etc.) which are a little more cost wise but offer a lot more choice wise. The food is very well presented and extremely tasty, and the staff are very friendly and polite. It’s a lovely location and I am yet to visit in the summer, but I can imagine the views outside are stunning, especially sunset.I thoroughly recommend The Mole and Chicken. My only wish is for the set menu published online to state when it is valid from / to, rather than just ‘winter’ - thank you for this consideration.

I did not want to write this review due to the nature of the experience but after a lack of response from anyone at The Mole and Chicken I have been forced to. See email below I sent following a visit. Dear Management at The Mole and Chicken.I wanted to write an email rather than leaving a public review as I feel that it isn’t fair to put people off what is actually a lovely restaurant with good food.Last night I was at the Mole and Chicken for the first time after being recommended by a number of friends over the years that we should go along. Whilst the meal was nice and the atmosphere with the fire etc was lovely the staff seemed unbelievably rushed and disinterested in making sure we had a nice and relaxed evening. We were there at 7pm so I do not think that is a very late sitting, the pub was by no means full which is to be expected on a Tuesday but the two ladies who were each serving and taking orders but certainly weren’t rushed off their feet, really did make us feel uncomfortable. Firstly asking to take our order 3 times within 10 minutes of getting there, that is fine as we were browsing but then rushing round when bringing food out, clearing plates and then serving mains really quickly after just finishing starters. They were also putting rubbish out clearing black bin liners whilst we were sitting trying to enjoy the fire. It was very obvious that they wanted to shut up shop and get home. They were not rude and I expect may not have realised how it came across, when I went to order a glass of red at 2140 they looked at their watches and the clock and said yes but it would be last orders, it would have been the last order anyway but after making us feel so uncomfortable during the whole meal we decided to cancel the order to go home for a drink instead. I would have imagined restaurants would have been appreciative to have more customers in on quieter nights rather than seemingly disappointed. Whilst I understand it is a Tuesday and perhaps they wanted to get home I don’t feel like paying and polite customers should be made to feel like that, it really did ruin what would have otherwise been a perfectly nice evening where I would have left and recommended the Mole and Chicken to friends. I wanted to make Management aware in case it is something that could be mentioned so that they do not do the same with other customers who may decide to review on a more public domain. I hope this is taken in the constructive way it is intended.

went with friends for New Years Eve and while the dinner was delicious, and well served with lovely staff at the end of the evening everyone went home by 11.oo pm except us and it just felt that you needed something else to hold everyone there especially on New Years Eve to see in the New Year, better music perhaps or the London Fireworks on a big screen , music or even the countdown as it all ended in a damp squib.

Absolutely brilliant Sunday lunch - food and service couldn’t be better. And all in a beautiful cosy environment with log fire. Thank you for a great experience.

visited recently on a night of foul weather. We found the staff friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome. Although we arrived at 7pm the place was already extremely busy. The food was excellent although the starters are a little pricey. Overall a lovely night and a place where one can chill out with friends.

Stayed for one night in the family room next door with our two small kids - a bit of a last minute booking. The room was cosy but a lovely little fold out was set up for the kids and there was a nice view over the adjoining fields. Nice little tea and coffee and biscuits in the room that kept us going while we dried off (it was pretty terrible outside!) and watched movie. The pub itself is ye olde and nicely set up although in both the evening and over breakfast we thought there could have been a little more atmosphere with another fire going and maybe some music or something playing. But a small thing really as the food was very nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. Would have loved to stay around another day and done some walking but we might just have to go back for that.

Having experienced a very disappointing stay for two nights, I could not recommend this establishment. I wrote to the owners to express the issues with my stay, but I never received a reply or any acknowledgement of my concerns. As evident in my other reviews, it is rare for such a poor summary. If you are planning on staying in any of the rooms, avoid room 2. It is tiny (for a ‘deluxe double’), the bed is uncomfortable, the heating is hard to control and above all, if anyone moves in the room above the floorboards squeak. Needless to say, one night I was kept awake from continuous movement above. When I raised this with staff they seemed shocked, yet reviews on other booking sites suggest this is a reoccurring problem! Surely this is a sign that something needs to change! At £125 a night, it is far from cheap. Look elsewhere if you are thinking of staying here.

Stayed one night with work in the area. Room nicely done and a bit quirky with bath and circular shower over. Toilet in the corner fine for me by myself, not sure my wife would be so keen if it was a leisure trip. Staff were extremely helpful. Meal was great and I thought good value. Head set menu for just under £20 for 3 courses. Excellent quality and served fairly promptly, a benefit when on my own. Would definitely stay again

Reserved a table via the website for Sunday evening at 1930hrs but on arrival we were told that the kitchen had closed. Even though I had email confirmation the pub were not aware of my booking!! The barman checked with the chef, who agreed to open his kitchen for us.

Twinned withe Mole Inn which is great so had high hopes. Equally good. Started with squid with chilli and aioli which I’d have again in a heartbeat. Rib eye steak was perfect. Double or triple cooked chips were spot on and can be even better with truffle oil and parmisan. Cabbage with bacon was tasty.

We had four rooms here for a long weekend due to a family wedding and absolutely lucked out, what a brilliant stay, we didn't want to leave! Great food, delightful rooms, stunning location and crucially the loveliest staff looking after us, and we really felt looked after! My parents are even coming back this autumn to do it all again. The place is a real gem! Thank you again to the whole gang who made it feel like a home from home, but so much better as there was no cooking or cleaning on my part!!!

Sunday lunch at this old inn is a good meal from a limited menu, 3 roasts, burger, fish and chips and a vegetarian option. Well cooked and presented but on the expensive side for what it is. Staff were friendly and helpful. The building has a number of levels with small steps so not ideal if you have a mobility problem.

We love everything about this place, and now love it even more! This is because they added an amazing dish to the menu - asparagus ravioli with a pea and mint mousse, rocket and freshly grated Parmesan cheese - it was amazing! Staff are always friendly, welcoming and super-efficient. We always love going for friends' lunch, and can't wait for our next one.

We ate in this restaurant although we did not stay there (there is accommodation). Out of the village of Long Crendon the original pub buildings have been extended by taking in a row of cottages and absorbing them into one building. Good English menu food - from Fish and Chips to Liver and Bacon at reasonable prices and well cooked with an attentive group of young staff who smiled (how nice - not that common!) and clearly enjoyed serving us. The beer battered fish was delightful and the range of ice creams is all home made - the raspberry sorbet was wonderful! Highly recommended.

whilst a decent restaurant, with fine service, you might be surprised that the food quality and prices are very good. The 'special' 2 or 3 course menu has never been anything other than a way of offering a cheap option - have never been mildly interested in anything on offer. Portions could have been larger for sure.

Did you know they only got a 3 food hygiene score on their most recent inspection? What a disgrace for somewhere with very high prices! We got ripped off and charged about £20 for a gin and tonic and now seeing this will never go there, really shocked!!!

We have just returned from a short stay at The Mole and Chicken in Easington, no Long Crendon, Bucks. What a lovely place! We had room 5, Mushroom, at the back of the building. It had a large bedroom, a sofa and an outside terrace with table and chairs. We sat there late afternoon with tea and coffee looking over the fields and the . sheep. Good selection of teas, coffee pods and machine and hot chocolate plus homemade flapjacks.

Booked for lunch for 15. All chose from a special menu offering 3 starters, 3 main course, 3 puds. Typically we had one no-show and one who turned up unexpectedly. Were they fazed? No. Was the food good? All of it superb. Was the service good? Flawless. Was it reasonable? Decidedly. Was the wine list interesting? Great bin ends available. Would you return? Emphatically.

I went there with my son on a Saturday night. I booked which is probably a good idea at a weekend. What can I say! The food is really delicious. I for example, I had the corn fed chicken as my main and it almost melts in your mouth. I cook a lot of chicken and I have never managed to create anything so sublime. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. I had a dietary request which was met with no issues. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant for special occasions or just because you want to go out for a great meal.

It is difficult to find a good pub/restaurant open on Sunday evenings, so I booked a family dinner for 6 without much expectation. What a wonderful surprise to be welcomed by friendly staff, and served great food in a cosy, traditional pub. Would highly recommend a visit and will certainly return when we are next in the area.

Just back from a lovely stay here, we arrived late as had been to the rugby final in Twickenham, the staff were really helpful and friendly, we stayed in a lovely room upstairs in the little cottage, the back overlooked a farm and we watched the lambs playing in the evening, the car park was busy a good sign, we had a nice table inside and chilled with a bottle of red and orders some nibbles from the starters and sides, the duck starter was amazing, my other half had food envy he went for the scotch egg and loved it too. The menu has a lot of variety and enough choice (less is more)!!

We stayed three nights. The room was adequate but - no shaver point, very hard pillows, creaky ceiling when occupants above walked around (late at night and before 6.00 am). Very clean and good coffee machine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was tasty but the limited menu didn't alter for the three nights and no specials. The steak was expensive and didn't include vegetables, sauce or potatoes so the main course could end up costing £30 per head. Not much of a vegan or vegetarian option. The breakfasts were good but there could have been more choice of cereals/fruit/yogurt apart from a prepacked Kellogs variety pack. There was lovely views from the rear terrace and the building was very attractive. If you were staying one night, it would be more acceptable but same old menu night after night was a bit monotonous (and expensive)

We were welcomed by friendly staff offering us a seat at a table outside to enjoy a drink in the sunshine whilst perusing the menu and then waiting for our mains to arrive. I ate haddock and chips which I throughly enjoyed. Lovely, flakey fish finished in a crisp batter with a choice of chunky chips or french fries. I chose the former and was not disappointed. I followed this with the apple tart tatin, which came in lovely pastry and covered with lots of sweet caramel. Delicious!

We were a party of 4. 3 of us chose rib eye steaks. These were £22.00 each and a sauce and all sides were extra. So adding fries and beans and a sauce added another £7.50.

Booked this for overnight stay to attend a wedding a couple of miles away. They made special effort to get our rooms ready early so we could get changed. The staff were incredible nothing too much trouble. Lovely place if you like quaint and quirky the rooms were amazing. Only have 5 rooms and we had 4 of them. Each one is very different with lovely views over the countryside from both sides of the hotel. Very peaceful and no fuss when we got back from the wedding a bit worse for ware. Beds very comfy, all the facilities you could want, and your own key for late night entry. Breakfast was served but a good choice from the menu and was plentiful. It was also my nieces and my birthday on the Sunday morning and the staff made special efforts to allow cake to be shared around all the family as by this time other family members ( not lucky enough to book here) had arrived. Overall a very pleasant weekend and we were looked after very well without being rushed into leaving. Would love to go again when down this part of the country. Well done to all the staff.

First visit. I love pies and had wanted to visit this pub for ages. I would love to have given more stars but was so disappointed that even though it was early evening my choice of pies were out of stock. Only about 6 pies available from a wonderful menu. For starter we had the vegetable soup and prawn cocktail - both very good. My husband had the fillet steak for his main course which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had my fourth pie choice option Chicken and Mushroom Pie. Unfortunately I felt the pie was overbaked as the top pastry was extremely hard and I could not cut through it or eat it. The chicken and sauce was delicious but could not see much evidence of mushroom. The vegetables and chips were cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic. The place itself looked as though it needed updating but definitely had character. The pub car park was a nightmare getting in and out. It did not help that someone had parked in the Exit so we had to leave by the Entrance! Would give it another try in the future.

This time I went to Rumsey's with just my wife although I have been several times with other members of my family since I make a point of going every time we visit my son in Tring because I love the place so much. I haven't tasted such delicious drinking chocolate anywhere. It is always so rich and velvety. I adore the stuff and, I think, could very easily get addicted to it! In addition to the actual drink they give you a very delicious little biscuit to accompany it. Every time we go, we buy some to make up at home and I can tell you it doesn't last for long - well not long enough anyway. The café itself is not very big but there are tables outside if the weather is good. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they also sell very tempting cakes and chocolates and some savouries. Parking in Wendover is very easy and the town centre is worth a visit in its own right. I urge you to go.

Went for a family birthday lunch with my 11 month old. I phoned ahead to double check that they could accommodate a baby in their food options and facilities and was warmly told “yes of course!” When we arrived there was a high chair set up with no safety strap attached (broken as only half was missing) the food was okay, a lovely small portion of roast chicken for him which he loved. However, my issue arose when i needed to change my baby’s nappy. I went into the women’s toilets and there was no baby change facilities so I came out to ask the staff “I wondered if there are any baby chance facilities I could use?” And the man I spoke to replied quite offhandedly and rudely “no it’s a 15th century building what do you expect.” I ended up having to change my son’s nappy on the bathroom floor on a blanket, as the alternative was to walk him back to the car in the rain. I understand that old buildings have less space for baby changing etc, but as I had phoned in advance to double check, it would have been nice to have been pre-warned of this. I also didn’t appreciate being spoken to so rudely by the staff member.
