The Lowndes Arms is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff were attentive and genuinely seemed to care about making our experience special. The menu offered a wonderful selection of freshly prepared dishes, and the food itself was top-notch—flavorful, beautifully presented, and made with high-quality ingredients. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meal or just a casual drink, the Lowndes Arms offers a perfect setting. The charming ambiance, combined with excellent service and delicious food, made for an unforgettable visit. Highly recommended!

Went for a family birthday lunch with my 11 month old. I phoned ahead to double check that they could accommodate a baby in their food options and facilities and was warmly told “yes of course!” When we arrived there was a high chair set up with no safety strap attached (broken as only half was missing) the food was okay, a lovely small portion of roast chicken for him which he loved. However, my issue arose when i needed to change my baby’s nappy. I went into the women’s toilets and there was no baby change facilities so I came out to ask the staff “I wondered if there are any baby chance facilities I could use?” And the man I spoke to replied quite offhandedly and rudely “no it’s a 15th century building what do you expect.” I ended up having to change my son’s nappy on the bathroom floor on a blanket, as the alternative was to walk him back to the car in the rain. I understand that old buildings have less space for baby changing etc, but as I had phoned in advance to double check, it would have been nice to have been pre-warned of this. I also didn’t appreciate being spoken to so rudely by the staff member.

A big thank you to Dan and his staff at the Lowndes for saving the day of our granddaughter’s birthday party. Unfortunately Loughton community centre let us down big time by not turning up to let us in the hall. Dan provided the lounge room to cater for 26 four year olds and their relatives. Plus our booked children’s entertainment. Dan and his team made the party a great success and the children all went home very happy And the beer and a wine or 2 certainly helped in coping with 26 children!!!

Not a particular fan of Sunday roasts especially those outside the home, but ate here last month for Mothers Day and was amazed! Food was excellent with crispy roast potatoes, excellent yorkshires and a large variety of veg. Last Sunday we had the opportunity to try the take home version. Items are separated with instructions to heat slowly and again the result was excellent. The pub itself is old and full of character. There is also a garden out the back with excellent views which we intend to visit this Summer. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

This might not be a fair reflection of what this place can do as they were entertaining the England game (they did a pretty good job too TBF) The menu therefore was unique to accommodate. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time given the how busy they were. Presentation was very good also and a great idea to deal with the numbers I might add. We had the beef burger which was really tasty but the beef patty was super thin. The next day wasn't so great for either of us 😵. More than willing to give this place another go and enjoy the views and there proper menu in a few weeks and revise this rating according.

When we walked in their was a very warm welcome from the bar man, He invited us to have a drink whilst we waited for our lunch table in the restaurant to be ready, He found us a nice big round table very quickly, He brought us the starters&main course menu boards soon after we were seated, The Starters were exceptional especially the garlic mushrooms, the bubble&squeak with 2 rings of black pudding&bacon with hollandaise sauce, Being sunday we had Beef with yorkshire, carrots, green&red cabbage, we added cauliflower cheese which was absolutely excellent, my fiancee had roast chicken with all the trimmings which she loved every bit, we then had a delicous apple&strawberry crumble with a lovely thick yellow custard, the apple tasted like bramley with a delicous flavour&texture, my lady had the peach&raspberry bread&butter pudding which they served with a nice yellow vanilla ice cream because my girl doesn't like custard. This pub is a must to pay a visit if you want to have an excellent time with top food&drink!

Was expecting a much better cask beer selection with the pub being in The Good Beer Guide 2020.. Two cask beers on (not a problem) but they were Doombar & Seafury - both brewed by Sharps (owned by Molson Coors (Carling, Prahva etc)) so neither a local or independent brewery. Beer was in good condition - had a Seafury - but only stayed for one due to the above. Shame as it’s a freehouse, so hope to see them supporting some indie and/or local breweries in there next time, like is advertised in The GBG!

Probably the worst place in Britain I’ve ever stopped. You’d expect to have at least hot and cold running water in 2019. Yet not so at the Lowndes Arms. When reporting this, there seemed no interest at all. And low and behold nothing was done about it during the stay. The rooms where not made up or cleaned after each night, which is again, a first for me in 21st Century Britain. The room price at £60/night did not include breakfast. In fact you couldn’t even get breakfast. This information was only found out buy quizzing the staff member when we checked in. They also insisted we pay the full bill in advance or wouldn’t let us have the keys to the room. Another treat they had in store was to close and barricade off the entrance to the car park on two nights leaving no parking at all for guests/residents. I had to argue with the landlord to let me into the car park as there was no on road parking available either. We did have one meal at the pub. 2/3rds of the items on the menu where crossed out and unavailable. When we did order something 5 mins later we were told part of the dish wasn’t available. Really the service was lousy and the food massively over priced for what it was. This is also the only place I have left early. I simply couldn’t face staying there another night, so despite being out of pocket having had to pay in advance. I decided to collect my bag and leave early. My only recommendation about the Lowndes Arms in Whaddon is to avoid it.

First visit. I love pies and had wanted to visit this pub for ages. I would love to have given more stars but was so disappointed that even though it was early evening my choice of pies were out of stock. Only about 6 pies available from a wonderful menu. For starter we had the vegetable soup and prawn cocktail - both very good. My husband had the fillet steak for his main course which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had my fourth pie choice option Chicken and Mushroom Pie. Unfortunately I felt the pie was overbaked as the top pastry was extremely hard and I could not cut through it or eat it. The chicken and sauce was delicious but could not see much evidence of mushroom. The vegetables and chips were cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic. The place itself looked as though it needed updating but definitely had character. The pub car park was a nightmare getting in and out. It did not help that someone had parked in the Exit so we had to leave by the Entrance! Would give it another try in the future.

This time I went to Rumsey's with just my wife although I have been several times with other members of my family since I make a point of going every time we visit my son in Tring because I love the place so much. I haven't tasted such delicious drinking chocolate anywhere. It is always so rich and velvety. I adore the stuff and, I think, could very easily get addicted to it! In addition to the actual drink they give you a very delicious little biscuit to accompany it. Every time we go, we buy some to make up at home and I can tell you it doesn't last for long - well not long enough anyway. The café itself is not very big but there are tables outside if the weather is good. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they also sell very tempting cakes and chocolates and some savouries. Parking in Wendover is very easy and the town centre is worth a visit in its own right. I urge you to go.
