Lovely old fashioned local pub. Low key and friendly. Perfect for a cosy autumn supper. No music or screens or machines. Perfect for us.

Great village pub with a garden for the summer

Me and the wife had a lovely meal, good food and atmosphere lovely old pub.

Great for dog walkers and cyclists,

Very good meal just sad that we were the only people in the saloon bar. The public bar was busy though

Great pub, has an old school rustic charm. Still has two bars which is nice (public and saloon) staff are friendly and attentive. Great outside space out the front and back which is well kept. Decent ever changing real ales. Food is superb, eaten here a few times and it’s always been top notch, portions can be big but very reasonably priced

10/10 brilliant place food was amazing and service so good well done all a great place and garden was lovely will return !!

Great pub in a lovely thatched village. Good food and great seating area at the top of the garden. Friendly Robin included.

Proper pub, situated by the canal. Good choice of beer. We didn't eat from their menu because of our late arrival but the owner said we could order a takeaway and eat in. Hence the 5 star food rating. They even provided plates and cutlery.

Had a lovely dinner with delicious cider infront of the fantastic fire. Extra treat was listening to the Morris Dancers practicing their music. So magical to be in a wonderful pub listening to wonderful music.

A fine and friendly pub in a picturesque setting next to the canal.

Great food (especially the steak and ale pie) and great local beer.

Went to the Red Lion today after a walk along the canal with my wife and daughter - really nice little bar - open fire etc. A full range of beers as well . We wanted a light lunch , my wife wanted a decaf coffee - they don't have that in their machine neither anywhere in the kitchen - ok not too much of an issue - ordered lunch , My daughter had a tuna melt , wife ordered ham and cheese melt - no ham apparently - so she changed that to a BLT - I ordered pate and toast. We sat down - there were 3/4 other diners . The barman brought over the cutlery and said , oh sorry it could be a bit of a wait - ok , how long , 20 minutes we were told , so ok . so around 40 minutes later the barman came over and said sorry for the wait our meals were just coming . We noticed that two guys who were there before us were still awaiting their lunch too. Then 10 minutes later a lady wearing an apron came out and said to me sorry no pate!! what would you like ? I suggested she tell me what she could do and I'd choose , settled for a bacon and mushroom melt - A further 15/20 minutes and the meals arrived - they wern't good at all - The bacon on the melt was burnt black and so salty it was not edible for me , the mushrooms were obviously old and had that bitter taste and the cheese melt was a glutinous blob - , In the meantime the barman had come over before the meals arrived with his card payment machine to say as I had changed my meal from Pate to Bacon and cheese melt he wanted to check if there was a balance to pay ( incredible ) however both were the same cost . We ate some but couldn't eat much at all - during this time the barman was ensconced in conversation with 3 regulars who were enjoying a liquid lunch and didn't bother checking on us , my wife and daughter implored me not to complain - which I regret I didn't- The barmen or owners of what could be a great pub don't appear to have any experience of running a pub and cannot have a concept of customer service - Food here is a disaster - the setting for a drink in the summer would be great but I could not recommend food- a great pity . I believe this was pub of the year in 2013 - if only we could go back in time.

Characterful country pub by good canalside walks - one minute from Grand Union, ten minutes from its Aylesbury arm. Good food, good beer, nice garden - what more could you want?

We had Sunday lunch recently and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was friendly, the staff all work very hard. Food was good and value for money. The owners even got in Guinness Zero after I left a request on FB!

Went to the red lion with my family for a roast, the food was ok but quite expensive. The atmosphere is terrible. There were 2 bum boys opposite who would not stop looking at us. Made my wife feel uneasy. The bar man was very arrogant and really rude. It took half an hour to get served, and that was after my wife had to go to another table to ask for a menu. We had 2 adult roasts and 3 kids roasts (2 of which were wrong), and it came to £91. I live in the village and it will be the last time I go there. Do yourself a favour and avoid it.

Lovely old pub, surprisingly spacious, with gorgeous original features. Good range of ales, including local Tring beers. The kitchen is definitely open again now! The chicken burger was delicious! Very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and locals.

Came in for a few pints with a friend and was sad to hear that a guy who is very passionate about his country and how he despises what's going on with the hole thing that's going on this weekend.He was a tad loud but nothing most people after a few drink would depot be like,for the manager to chuck the guy out because of his beliefs. Not one worning just get out basically. Is this how we are treating people who clearly are British ! Avoid at all costs as the manager is obviously a plastine limer and doesn't want English people in his pub. So very sad

I called in a week too early as the kitchen is currently closed! So I had to make do with the beer which was excellent. A friendly warm and inviting pub this will be fantastic when they can serve food again!

Tbh it's a quiet place and the chap at the bar was friendly but they stopped doing food which isn't obvious online... went elsewhere to eat

Have just rung to see if I could book a table for Friday evening and apparently the kitchen is closed for the foreseeable future. However a lovely place to spend the evening.

The ownership has reverted from the tenant (who was useless), back to the owner. Things are better. However, there is no cooked food (this may change I hope).

Good atmosphere and served by a very pleasant young lady who wanted to serve you, and did so with a pleasant smile. This was a Sunday lunchtime.

A couple of good cask ales on and in perfect condition. Lovely quiet back garden

Grest pub, fantastic staff that made us very welcome. 12 of us had a great evening here. The food was excellent, most of it is home made. The goulash pie is a big recommend along with the soup and home cooked puds. Must not forget the excellent beers. We plan to come back very soon.

Friendly village pub near the canal. Food was wholesome if not fancy, which made a nice change. Pub was quiet - we left at 10.30, the last there. Staff didn't press us to go which was also refreshing. Recommended for atmosphere. I should imagine they are much busier in the warm months.

Called in as other pubs in the village were shut. What a find. Very friendly staff, great beer with choice of 3 or 4 ales, simple menu cooked really well. Ham and sausages were excellent quality. Very close to the canal, great for boaters and walkers. Would definitely recommend.

Popped in one drink after a walk. Staff pleasant. Nice garden with pretty lighting and a folk band playing which appeared to be a meet up for fellow musicians.

Very nice thatched roofed pub , right near the canal , plenty of seating outside the front now with allocated parking spots also plenty of seating to the rear with a decking built seating area lovely sun trap all day , prices of drinks are the same as everywhere not over priced usual bar snacks plus doing different food specials board looks home cooked and very nice too , lovely friendly people, dog friendly and winter time lovely log fires,

A lovely pub with friendly staff, great food and nice inside and out. Has parking and only half mile from marsworth lochs. We will be back.

My wife Debbie and I paid our first ever visit to the Red Lion today having driven passed it last week by accident. Lovely beer and the best Ham, Egg and chips (a great British pub classic) we have ever had. Will be back.

Dropped in last minute and they were very welcoming. Definitely recommend the ploughman's lunch!

Nice location with seating outside bar staff were a bit stroppy after a long hot day but don't let that put you off. Top tip: If you want fresh brewed coffee ☕ you need to go elsewhere!

Service very slow waited 20 minutes for our drinks and it wasn't even busy

When finally got beer 40mins wait was good

Visited today and sincerely wish I hadn't. First drinks order took 20 mins to arrive so ordered food. A second order was made which eventually arrived We asked where the first order was and over half an hour later ( and several reminders) still not delivered Appalling - no apology - only excuses over their ridiculous ordering system And if you think it was just our table - then you're wrong Avoid like the plague unless you enjoy waiting

During these Covid days, they have a great system in place, take a seat in the garden text your order, and it's delivered to your table, just choose a nice day! English weather need to be factored in 😁

This is a quintessential English country pub. Take a walk along the canal and walk over the bridge to be greeted by the sight of this solid and welcoming brick building. There’s a gazebo outside and several small rooms inside where we had some excellent food and real ale which we ordered through WhatsApp. It’s a bit of a clunky system because you have to get a menu somehow first and they seemed a little overwhelmed on a Friday lunchtime but they were trying their best and we didn’t have to wait too long. All Covid measures are in place and its well worth finding this place and booking a table once we are out of lockdown

Beer was of good quality and the food was excellent service was good and staff were very friendly well worth a visit

OK toilets but one of them were blocked by the groom of a wedding which was happening in the pub

A fabulous pub with friendly efficient staff always welcoming with good food and interesting lock walks. It's in a quiet picturesque location. They are covid aware with hand sanitizer and a one way system. A great place to visit .
