First time visiting for us... walked into a very smelly pub, smelled of smoke and musty smelling carpet. Ordered and sat down and all we could smell was smoke because the back door to the smoking area was open which is not good when you don't smoke. Our food took a good while to arrive but it was a Sunday and people were in for their roasts. I have to admit that the smell of smoke & the musty carpet put me off ordering food but my husband had the 4 meat roast which he thoroughly enjoyed, it was a proper hearty roast unlike the posher places in the area who charge triple the price and serve a minute amount. If the smoke coming into the pub was addressed I would go back. The pub could do with a stone or wooden floor to take away the smell of the carpet, I think they may be in the process of painting anyway. Worth a visit for the lovely food

Really friendly pub with great food. Lovely place to stop off. There's limited parking out the front and I advise reversing in as people don't slow or stop if you try to reverse out. Didn't see a disabled toilet but there was one step with Hazard tape on it to visit the bathrooms and step free to get to the tables and bar.

Visited with family as part of a large group for lunch. We contacted the restaurant in advance for information on GF options and were reassured with the options provided. We weren’t asked to, but submitted out menu options in advance and the chef replied to say thank you and that it was really useful to have. The food on the day was really good, we all enjoyed. The staff were lovely and there was a lot of choice of drinks. Would recommend.

Our first visit to the village - it was a midweek mid-afternoon, and more in hope than expectation we were looking for any dining option. The Crown fitted the bill perfectly as food was advertised as being available all day. A quick glance at the previous reviews revealed we had nothing to worry about, and so it proved. We chose to sit in the large back garden. Service was efficient with a smile and I was impressed that there was a choice of draught ciders. Food quality was good - we will be back!

One of the worst experiences of English pub male on a Saturday night one side of the pub had quiz night which meant we were stuffed in the other corner which was smelly and stinky so we decided to go out in the garden as we were meeting our friends and had four kids and one dog Plenty of runaround space for the kids then the menu arrived and we ordered some very overpriced and very small quantity food. A bowl of ice cream for £7.95 The menu outside read two currys for the price of one but when the bill arrived it was not taken out and we had realised this only when we came home. Only two vegetarian options for main course

My friend and I recently came to this pub and we ordered a starter and a main. The starters were perfect and couldn’t fault them. We both ordered the ham, egg and chips for main. Almost 24 hours later we both still feel sick. We explained to the waiter who served us that our ham was slimy, fatty, green and appeared raw. We asked for a plate to disregard the ham so we could at least eat our small portion of egg and chips. We then went to pay and £6 was taken off our whole bill. We called the owner on our way home as we felt this didn’t sit right. Spending £11.95 each for a few chips and egg is unacceptable as well as leaving hungry and sick. She said we could go back for another £6 refund. Owning your own business and treating your customers like this is unacceptable. Especially the looks and atmosphere the owner and staff created for us when we came to have a nice meal. The quality of your food is your fault, not ours. I would advise never to go into this pub for food as they are clueless about food standards, chill chain, basic hygiene and customer service. We observed a raw piece of pork was sat in the kitchen for at least half an hour on a hot sunny day. If you want to play Russian roulette and waste £60 on something that will not get refunded when I wouldn’t even feed it to my dogs, here is the place to visit!

Proper country pub with tables inside and a garden at the back. We called in for a Sunday lunch, which was very good. (There was a problem with the beef being a bit on the tough side, but the pub immediately apologised and offered us compensation, which was a positive response and good service). Apart from the beef (which I'm sure was a one-off) the meal was excellent. The staff were all good, especially the young girl who sorted out the 'beef issue' with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of understanding. We'd certainly go back if ever in the area.

Everything else was spot on, great choice of Roasts all served with delicious roast potatoes, veg, a giant Yorkie and lashings of gravy. Gluten free options too. Sensible prices and good service.

We were very pleasantly surprised by our meal at The Crown last week. The starters on the chalkboard looked irresistible so we shared 3 - lobster fish cakes, duck spring rolls and halloumi - all delicious and well presented. The menu was much more extensive than most in these post-covid days so we had lots of choice. For mains I had a seemingly bottomless but moreish bowl of five-spiced chicken salad, and my husband had very tasty spicy prawn linguine. Both chicken and prawns were perfectly cooked, in generous portions (despite very reasonable prices) and served with a smile. With reference to previous reviews, the pub did seem to have lots of locals in for a drink and a banter, but that’s good isn’t it? It seemed like a very friendly atmosphere to us! Many thanks indeed!

Terrible. Walked in, no greeting, bar smells of cigarettes and there was a big dog which we had to climb over and there was no word spoken to us. Had to walk through to see if there is some seating area as we wanted to have a meal for a special occasion. Nobody outside either. Had to walk back into the bar and ask the person behind the bar for some service but i was told that the kitchen is long closed and half laughed off as if my request to have a meal was absurd on a Sunday afternoon. Sign outside says "food served all day" so this is why I assumed that it would be possible to have a meal. Massive advertising outside on this place and I pass it regularly and thought to give it a go as the reviews didn't look too bad. But unfortunately I was mistaken. If the kitchen is closed, don't advertise that you're serving food. Also, not being acknowledged upon entry really puts me off as I have been in the professional hospitality sector for over 10 years and wanting basic service is apparently too much to ask for at 'The Crown'.

This was genuinely one of the biggest mistakes I have made when booking a restaurant. The website depicts an inviting restaurant and good food, however, upon arrival we walked into a full room and greeted by locals who all stopped what they were doing to stare at us, as though we had interrupted their pints which made for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Nobody had a meal at their table which concerned us. We decided to go through to the smaller side of the pub (it's not a restaurant) and sat at the only decent looking table next to a couple watching the rugby on the big screen TV on the wall (never something to get excited about in a so called restaurant). We were handed a laminated menu with nothing to get excited by as the food on offer was very mixed up and disjointed, which can range from sandwiches to curry, and when asked what we wanted for drinks there was a very limited offer on standard lagers and beer. I had a Corona which was warm (no lime available). Our daughter had a lemonade which she didn't finish as that was also warm. The whole look was like an outdated 80's pub with fruit machines in the eating area which is confusing. The website states it has been refurbished?? We decided then and there to call a taxi and leave without eating, no doubt we will refrain from ever returning.

Went to this country pub for the first time with a group of 15 male friends. The decor is very welcoming as were the staff. Food was far better than the normal pub food, really well presented and obviously freshly cooked. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection... Excellent all round. Will be going back with the wife very soon. Thank you.....

We had a very pleasant Christmas lunch. Food was well prepared and tasty, and my test for all lunches, I did not leave feeling hungry! . My only reason for not giving five stars is that I would have hoped to have bread with the smoked salmon starter.

Made the reservation via opentable app which was super easy….really friendly staff and a super tasty meal. All four of us were more than happy with the service and the food. The Ham egg and chips went down so well, as did the lamb bhuna....

Wow the food was amazing. I had the mutton curry and it was better than my local curry house. Will definitely be back

Looks can be deceiving. A small traditional pub inside and big beer garden out the back that serves delicious food, and not just your traditional pub grub. The only letdown for me is that the beer selection isn't the best and all a bit flat. Don't go here for the beer, go for the food!

Lovely village pub. A warm welcome from the landlady. Visited on three occasions for something to eat at teatime, each time, a warm greeting and good service. Sadly, the current proprietors are leaving very soon, so I do not know what is happening in the future.

The real ales just speak for themselves. You might find them as good elsewhere, but you won't better them. ( And if you can better them locally please let me know, I'm always on the lookout for a good pint) Apart from that, lovely 16th Century Freehouse, thatch, old oak beams, real fires and a big welcome.
