We have recently celebrated a special birthday at The Rising Sun. My children have a variety of food allergies - egg / dairy / nut / sesame. We rang ahead with the order so it was easier to cater for and they did such a fantastic job. The meal the kids had was excellent. Everything was eaten! They even went out of their way to get a vegan dessert ready for them. We had a table of 11 and all our other meals were absolutely excellent quality. The Yorkshire’s were fantastic and beef and horseradish so tasty. Everything was fantastic. Super service and extremely friendly. We will be back! Thank you for a lovely birthday lunch team!!

I cannot praise this fantastic place enough. The staff are welcoming. and care about you as a customer. The Guinness is excellent and the Black Sheep is delicious,XT 4is also more than acceptable. We had the chefs recommendation of pork belly roast for Sunday lunch which was an out of the park home run. Thanks for fitting us in when you were so busy. Brilliant old English pub with a fantastic garden, the kids loved the play area and there were some other children playing football there as the garden was so big it was a great atmosphere, on arrival we noticed an aunt sallys area and spoke to the person behind the bar he was all to happy to get the dolls out for us and we had luckily brought our sticks. One of our beers was a bit flat which was understandable because he had just changed the barrel but had no issues swapping it out 😊 we will be back.

Met up with friends here for a drink and lunch before checking into a hotel a few miles away. Very traditional set up, with low ceilings (if you're 5' 10 or taller, be wary!) and a garden for outside dining. The Adnams Southwold bitter is well looked after and presented. We had a variety of food, all of which was very nice. There was a pre-wedding reception going on so it was quite busy, but it didn't affect our experience. Lovely staff and very friendly.

We were a party of 6. Some had crispy duck or squid starters which were not crispy. Others had cheese souflé or scallops or prawn risotto which were good. The aubergine mains, prawn risotto were so so, but a fair number of prawns in the latter. The fish pie was small and that was with the vegetables inside it! However, the lamb canon was excellent. Desserts were good or so so. The Chilean white wine recommended was nowhere as good as an Italian Pinot Grigio. Service was excellent.

I used to be a regular but moved away. Last time I was here, for Sunfest last year, this was a great village pub. I visited again last week, as I was visiting friends nearby and Boy, what a let-down. It was a cold evening, but the fire in the lovely big fireplace was almost out. The landlord (so I was told) was 'busy' on his laptop at the far end of the bar, other than fairly monosyllabic serving my beer. His wife (I'm told) was behind the bar in her dressing gown. Not working, but Why??? There were two other men, obviously locals, in the pub, but no interaction with the landlord. They left and I was on my own. They no longer do food, which surely is a mistake. Basically, a potentially lovely characterful pub, with absolutely no atmosphere. They display 2 or 3 year-old winner certificates in different categories if a local 'best pub' competition. Take them down. Shape up, or shut down - and that would be a shame.

Bitterly cold today and so nice to walk into this delightful old pub with blazing log fire and warm welcome by the friendly staff. Everything a village pub should be:ancient beams, lots of gleaming brass, all spic and span. Very enjoyable traditional food for lunch obviously cooked on the premises. We both had steak & ale pie, lots of tender, high qualify meat, pastry crust, gravy and properly cooked fresh vegetables in abundance. Our choice for dessert was bread & butter pudding (lots of sultanas) with ice cream and gooseberry crumble with custard. Outstandingly good value and excellent real ale on hand pump. We noticed a large attractive garden for outdoor eating and drinking.

I booked my 5 night stay in an unofficial B&B about a 12 minute drive from Waterperry Gardens, Oxon. Art in Action is one of the biggest Art demonstration/exhibition Fairs in the country and attracts over a quarter of a million visitors over the four days each year.My working days were long and tiring and by the time I was heading for my B&B I was in need of some serious sustenance. I discovered The Rising Sun at Ickford quite by chance and what a delightful pub it turned out to be. Landlords Paul and Jan made me feel very welcome and after four nights of dining there I felt like a "local' not a visitor! The characterful 15th century pub with exposed beams (and a log fire in the winter) boasts four Real Ales on tap along with lagers and quality bottled wine. (It's Good Beer Guide listed) The traditional home cooked pub food certainly impressed and satisfied this hungry artist and I can recommend the Chicken & Ham pie with a selection of steamed vegetables. The bangers, egg and chunky ranch fries was a veritable plateful. Paul and Jan even saved me a "Sunday Carvery" that they heated up for me when I visited on the Sunday evening. (They don't serve food on a Sunday evening.) The Rising Sun is a little gem waiting to be discovered and I can certainly recommend it to other visitors.

I pre-booked for seven of us for the Saturday evening. We were greeted very pleasantly on arrival and after ordering drinks were shown to our table and given the menus. The food took a little while to arrive after ordering which is the right thing as it's cooked to order so hot and fresh when it arrived and gave us chance to catch up with each other as we were having a reunion after several months apart.Everyone was happy with the food and the service and we would go there again if we are in that area. The pub itself is clean and tidy with the eating area quite compact but it took seven of us quite easily with three square tables pushed together to make one large eating area, perfect for us.

My wife and I were actually on our way to a pub in a nearby village for lunch when we saw the sign advertising The Rising Sun Pub Food so decided to try it. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who quickly took our food and drinks order. The menu was simple and the price very attractive - 2 courses for £9.95 - and we chose soup and battered mushrooms as our starters and 2 battered Hake, chips and mushy peas as a main course. We didn't have to wait long for the starters although there were only 3 other couples and a single man dining. The vegetable soup was uninspiring but came with a single white roll. The mushroom batter wasn't great but the mushrooms themselves were fine. However, being served on a few pieces of scattered iceberg lettuce with frying oil from the batter evident didn't make the dish particularly appealing. Nevertheless, the dipping sauce was good. The chips and mushy peas with the main course were very good and they were generous proportions but the Hake was spoilt by poor, oily batter (same as that for the mushrooms?) and by being under-cooked, which I suspect resulted from it being battered then deep fried straight from frozen which meant that it was cool at best in the middle. We decided not to experience the desert menu. The ambiance of this pub is really nice with low wooden beams, a range of clean tables well laid out and an open fire for cold days, and it has the potential to attract a large number of diners. But the Chef needs to improve on the standard of the food if The Rising Sun is to attract people off the main road. That said, the meal price was very cheap so if that's the priority then carry on - but we probably won't bother stopping off here again.

We were visiting locally and the satnav took us to the Rising Sun. We're glad it did, we had a really nice lunch, the menu offers lots to choose from and the chips were made fresh not the usual frozen. Hubby's choice of all day breakfast particularly deserves a mention as was a huge portion all really well cooked with bacon and sausages of extremely good quality. The whole menu is really reasonably priced for the quality of the food provided. Unlikely we'll be back in the area but if we ever are we would definitely eat there again.
