Firstly. It was so lovely to be greeted by Sarah, and be personally shown to our room. Sarah continued to be on hand in the restaurant and her manner and helpful approach did not go unnoticed. We affectionately nicknamed the office The Nerve Centre, but staff always made a point of greeting us when we passed by the door. The lovely housekeeping lady obliged with firmer pillows when we asked for them. I dare say she was also responsible for our spotless bedroom. And, made a point to ask if it was ok the next day. The restaurant staff were all great too. But in particular young Sid (Sidney) who had a warm professional way about him, and looked after us well at dinner. I must also mention the FOOD! Oh wow! The menu is fabulous and each course was just superb. I still can’t get over the fantastic beet dish. My husband and I absolutely love fish and will always choose it when its available, but the veggie options swayed us as they were divine. The menu changes seasonally and is so imaginative. We look forward to returning again to enjoy another mini break with you

Today we had a family gathering for my wife’s big birthday, 17 of us for a Sunday lunch! Normally planning this sort of thing can be a bit difficult and more than often when the food comes out for a mass party it can be a little less than you expected Not here, the pre planning was easy and so efficient…on the day, well, the staff weee all superb, the food came out as if was for a table of two….hot, perfectly presented and fabulous. Can’t recommend this place enough, superb, superb, superb…..made a very special day very special

First visit, the Milk House has a rustic yet modern feel. The menu offers a good range of dishes to suit most tastes. The service was very good, the young serving staff are a credit to the venue. We visited for a Saturday lunch, the restaurant was busy with family groups and couples. Food service was prompt and the presentation and standard of food was very good. The seasonal menu is due to change shortly and we are looking forward to a return visit in the summer.

Clean and tidy pub / restaurant We ate in pub area of the building close to bar, Ordered 2 ribeye steaks very nicely presented and pretty tasty beef tbf , nice French beans also my only criticism would be literally got 5/6 chips in egg cup type bowl, which were bought in chips which is totally fine but surely have a pub meal in bar area would warrant a fairly more generous portion. I wasn’t looking for Michelin star food just decent quality and a fair size portion. I would have asked for more had the waitress return to ask if everything was ok with our meal but she didn’t or nor did anyone else. I would add the young chaps on the bar were very attentive with drinks. Apologies for being negative but sadly won’t be coming back any time soon as feel better options else where locally.

We actually stumbled upon this place on Wednesday morning while waiting for Sissinghurst Castle to open down the road. Visited the Milk House yesterday while on holiday in the area, & it totally exceeded our expectations. The food was gorgeous! I had the vegan lentil salad starter & beetroot tarte tatin main which were seriously delicious. I love when the vegan offering is something more than your bog standard tickbox - you can tell a lot of thought went into creating both these dishes. My husband had the roast (beef) and said it was the best roast he’s had out in ages. Good portion sizes too. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon was lovely. Highly recommend this place.

Nice food and friendly staff, and if you don’t mind some random dog licking your food, then I fully recommend the place. If like me however, you’d rather keep your food to yourself and not share it with one of the many dogs around, then go elsewhere, where dog owners are asked to take responsibility for the behaviour of their pets.

Used to love the milk house and the food is still 5/5 but the prices have gotten out of hand, the outside is looking run down and the marquee is tired (I can't imagine it was meant to still be up this long after Covid). The service is a real shame too, used to be great and now quite aggy. Used to think it was kid friendly but actually, they don't have any kids juice drinks so to get them a portion of chips and an orange juice it's £9, kids pizza £8 (and it's small), really limited options and whilst the garden is great- it's not a place to just drop by for a drink.

Four stars is too much and three stars too little. It is 12.5% cheaper to eat in the bar dining area as they don't levy service charge there - you order at the bar and fetch your own pizza from a shed outside. For pub food it is quite expensive. As a group of four, two had pizzas and they were very good. But they are only being served in summer apparently. They were large and well topped. We took some leftovers away which they kindly wrapped in foil (they need to invest in some boxes). The haloumi burger was good. It's hard to screw that up! My wife liked the thin chips but professed the roll top to be rather tough. So I ate it. I had fish and chips with smashed peas and thin chips. The fish had a rather wet "I've been frozen" feel to it and tasted of very little. The batter was good. The pea puree tasted strongly of mint, had no seasoning and was very watery. The chef here needs to taste what he produces. Fish and chips were 5/10. Interior was nice. Loos needed a proper deep clean and smelt very strongly of disinfectant. Mixed and mainly positive experience overall. We will try it again in due course.

We visited the Milk House for a meal. My friend had a chicken burger. ( I think it was described as) and chips. I had the vegan curry. My friend said hers had 3 chicken fillets in. Very good and plenty of chips. My vegan curry was served with cauliflower rice, nan and raita and it tasted lovely. I think the curry was a little small for the money, but the quality made up for it. Very generous menu with lots of choice for everyone. Also fresh pizzas being served outside which looked delicious.lovely garden and views outside. Play area for kids. Marquee outside indicating they have special events at times. Toilets were beautifully clean, a pleasure to use. I can't comment on the rooms as we were only visiting for food. However based on the standard of everything else I believe they will be lovely. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Nice restuarant, good service and wide menu. The lunch was compromised due to a music festival in operation at the time of visit. Lunch was OK in terms of quality but expensive for a single burger without salad or fried. Dinner was much better but still expensive which was compounded by the 12.5% service charge.

We were disappointed as this pub was highly recommended. There was relatively little flexibility with meeting dietary needs, the fish was a little over-cocked and the meal could only be described as average. Run on a canteen style - collect your own cutlery etc, and if having pizzas, its self collection for these as well. There are much better places to visit nearby.

Went for lunch with my Grandad, Mum and 2 children (2 yr old and 5 month old) have never been made to feel less welcome. Hillary greeted us and when we asked if there was a table in the restaurant she advised there was but the garden might be better, this left us feeling like we were not welcome in the restaurant. I can only assume this was because of my children (they are well behaved, we make a point of eating out with them as a family and I had sticker/colouring books to keep the 2 yr old entertained). We sat in the bar however this is not table service, my Grandad is 86 years old and not mobile enough to be collecting cutlery from one place, condiments from a fridge outside etc, I was looking after my children which meant my poor Mum was having to fetch everything and place our orders at the bar. We were not offered a highchair until after I complained about the way we had been treated. We will not be returning which is such a shame as the food was very good and we are local.

I highly recommend this restaurant. I’d never been before, found it online, booked a table for lunch after a visit to nearby Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens (also highly recommended). Everything about our visit was perfect – the restaurant is beautiful, bright, clean, comfortable; the staff were welcoming, attentive, helpful; and the food was sensational. Every dish beautifully prepared and presented, and so full of flavour. I had (top left in photo) juniper crusted lamb fillet with potatoes, parsley, pea shoot, soya bean, feta & black olive salad, smoked aubergine houmous. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a meal more. All style no substance... My parents live not far from here and whenever we drive past it's always busy and lively. We finally visited for lunch today after years of saying we should and to be honest I wish we hadn't bothered... We arrived at around 3.30pm (5 adults and a 1 year old) and were seated in the garden by a member of staff. At no point did they mention kitchen times or make clear service would be stopping shortly. So we ordered some drinks, enjoyed the garden as the grounds are lovely, and chatted for a bit while we found the menus. The table was dirty when we arrived as were the highchairs, one of which had a broken leg and was fixed with duct tape. No one arrived to clean the table but we made do with some Milton wipes and cleaned the table ourselves along with the high chair. When we got to the bar at 3.50pm we were informed that the kitchen had just closed... The pub itself doesn't shut until 10pm on a Sunday so we were a bit baffled that food had stopped. When we queried what we could order (if anything) the chap behind the bar just said it's says the kitchen shuts at 4pm on the website and they do a deep clean of the kitchen which takes a long time. Granted the 4pm cut off is listed on the website, but at the very bottom of the homepage in small font - not anywhere where it's clearly visible and it's something that's certainly not reiterated by the staff. The website also states they shut at 4pm, but then reopen between 6-8pm for a reduced menu(?) Not sure what sort of logic that is.... Also we ordered 10mins before the cut off so not sure why (in hindsight) we were refused service. Frankly it just felt like the staff didn't want to be there. Disappointed but not wanting to let it ruin the visit we ordered what food was available, which was pizzas from the wood fired oven. Again I wish we'd left at that point and saved our appetites for a proper Sunday lunch at one of the other local pubs. The pizzas were so bland and tasteless and one we ordered with a meat topping had one piece of meat on the entire pizza. Almost £100 for a drink each and a rubbish pizza. It's simply not worth the money. The staff were unbothered, tables and highchairs were dirty and broken, the glassware was questionably clean and stunk of damp, which made the drinks taste awful, and little to no food options on a Sunday afternoon. Do yourself a favour; go elsewhere.

An absolute gem of both a restaurant and pub set in the middle of Sissinghurst. Absolutely fantastic food, with plenty of choice for everyone, including imaginative and high quality vegetarian and vegan options. We visited here yesterday with a party of 10 for lunch (just food no accommodation). The service and interior of the gastro pub was lovely and couldn't really be faulted (they even made the effort for a gluten free member of our party). But the style and portion size of the starters and mains were slightly frustrating and underwhelming. I ordered the lobster and crayfish ravioli, which came with a small salad (as a starter, for £13) and all I got was a single ravioli parcel and some watercress leaves ontop as the salad. Same went with the side portion of Rosemary & garlic potatoes and these came as tiny chopped up cubes. Again, the style and type of food wasn't what we were expecting, they are obviously trying to market themselves at a certain customer but as an all rounder gastro pub I felt a bit let down by the food.

Myself and best friend travelling back to London stopped by and both said 10 out of 10 for everything. We both had fish and chips and a hazelnut and chocolate tart, plus a pistachio and candied peel filled cannoli. Cooked to perfection. The balance of sugar in the desserts was spot on. Not sickly sweet, just rich, flavoursome and delicious. We are wanting to now book a stay in one of the four lovely rooms later this year as a weekend escape! Thanks to the entire team. The decor is great but chairs uncomfortable and the first young waitress we had was really good but the rest of them not so good. The food is quite expensive for what you get, they are trying to pull off London dining i think but it doesn't work. Duck bon bons were soggy and not much duck filling but the drizzle over the salad was nice and then the cod and chips, the cod tasted bland and watery no seasoning so think it was frozen which is a big no for me when im eating out, i want fresh food.

I attended a Saturday night slot. There were a few empty tables, so not bustling. We stood at the door for ages being ignored before I had to walk over and ask the waitress staring at us if we could be seated. I could not even order a glass of wine with dinner as the waitress brought the drinks menu and never returned until we were finished eating and ready to pay. We were also seated at a table facing an intersection which meant being periodically blinded by car lights- curtains were decorative only. The staff generally all seemed to have a miserable disposition. The food was not bad but the experience overall was unsatisfactory.

The pub/restaurant was packed for Mother's Day, and there were clearly lots of happy eaters! My review will focus on a couple of other key points that can often get lost in food reviews. 1) Kindness and 2) Accessibility. 1) The manager/owner, Sarah (?), was thoughtful and attentive. Her team were all equally sympathetic and professional, and they hid any possible stress well beneath their authentic warm welcomes and swift and attentive service. 2) There is disabled access, there is enough space for a wheelchair, there are corner tables that provide slightly quieter dining experiences (especially important for autistic people like me), and the toilets are ample and very clean. To top it off, the food was well-served and yummy! What a fabulous venue.

The service was unfortunately poor. Once sat down it was some time before we got the opportunity to see a menu. We seemed to have a different staff member at each interaction which felt a little disjointed. Once out table was cleared we had to prompt a waitress to get us a dessert menu. It wasn't that there was a poor ethic rather than they had no strategy in dealing with what was a busy restaurant. I would recommend in the hope this was isolated and the food was excellent.

The staff were very accommodating and dinner we had was very good. A comprehensive breakfast meant that we could skip lunch. I certainly recommend The Milk House

Commenting on food only which was delicious. I did not stay there so cannot comment but the atmosphere was nice. Service wasn’t really there but we were sitting near bar in corner.

Attentive staff although the food lacked sparkle and a bit of effort we felt. Overall, lost its zap. Maybe a different chef.

A decent enough pub with a large, family garden and good service but with a horrible habit of letting people queue up single file at the bar like a post office. Why do pubs allow this?!

I dropped in here after passing by a few times. Only had a quick snack and drink, but the customer service was absolutely great even though they were very busy. The food was fantastic, and we'll certainly be heading back in the not to distant future to have a full meal.

Popped in for tea en route home and was very surprised. Lovely welcome from all staff in a cosy place. Lots of ambience. Food was outstanding.

We stayed in two beautiful rooms as very close to Benenden hospital for my daughter's surgery. The rooms were quiet, full of character and the beds so comfy. The tea tray a lovely addition. Most welcome to a stressful couple of days. The staff went above and beyond to help my daughter with her food and even supplying cushions on chairs. The breakfast fresh, quality ingredients and very plentiful in the lovely dining room. This charactful pub hotel is charming. A wonderful find that we will return to soon for another stay.

Lovely pub. Separate dinning area and bar area which is always nice, but the same menu. Dogs are allowed in the bar area or the garden (which is also good). Food is great, had the burger which I’m pretty sure was handmade. Child friendly as well and have high chairs and a kids play area in the garden. Will return.

Birthday lunch yesterday was so very disappointing. The plaice, which I was looking forward to as a change from Sea Bass, was terrible. Uncooked and still cold on the bone. I can only imagine it was too chilled or had been frozen. Our server replaced it with another which was only fractionally better. Service was good but I wouldn't recommend the food.

Found the manageress less than child friendly and often quite rude. It's a shame because otherwise it would be nice.

Sophie, Cindy and Charlie always take the time to get to know us as people. Sharing these kind moments elevates The Granary Restaurant's food service in Sissinghurst Castle's picturesque setting. Thank you! X

We stayed here for one night and they upgraded us to a spacious room, which was nice. However, I expected the bathroom to be larger than the one in the room we originally booked, especially since most rooms seem to have both a bathtub and a separate shower. Also, there was no conditioner provided in the bathroom. The wellness center has a very strange layout. There are two separate gym areas, and to get from the swimming pool to the changing room, you basically have to walk a bit —or run if you’re cold, as you need to walk passed a communal hallway. As you can see, the state of the changing room was terrible, with hair and debris everywhere, and it was also very cramped. The swimming pool itself is quite small, and there’s really no need for a shallow/deep end. There was also debris at the bottom of the pool, and to be honest, we were rather concerned of the lack of chlorine smell! Moving on to breakfast, the egg royale definitely not worth the £4 supplement. The eggs royale was disappointing, the muffin was stale and there was only a small amount of smoked salmon. As for the full English breakfast, the mushrooms were chewy, and the bacon—how long had it been sitting there??? We gave feedback to the staff and later, we received a call stating they would like to compensate us for the breakfast by deducting some money. In the end, they took off £10 but still charged the £4 supplement; so essentially, we only got £6 off that awful breakfast. On the positive side, the spa treatment was lovely. We both enjoyed our facials and would definitely recommend them. The staff on-site were also generally friendly and helpful. The interior of the hotel was lovely too. Also, very close to town. Overall, I doubt we’ll be returning.

Landlady was super helpful but they stopped serving food at 4pm. The Italian is no more which was disappointing. Good music.
