Visited the Milk House yesterday while on holiday in the area, & it totally exceeded our expectations. The food was gorgeous! I had the vegan lentil salad starter & beetroot tarte tatin main which were seriously delicious. I love when the vegan offering is something more than your bog standard tickbox - you can tell a lot of thought went into creating both these dishes. My husband had the roast (beef) and said it was the best roast he’s had out in ages. Good portion sizes too. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon was lovely. Highly recommend this place.

Nice food and friendly staff, and if you don’t mind some random dog licking your food, then I fully recommend the place. If like me however, you’d rather keep your food to yourself and not share it with one of the many dogs around, then go elsewhere, where dog owners are asked to take responsibility for the behaviour of their pets.

Used to love the milk house and the food is still 5/5 but the prices have gotten out of hand, the outside is looking run down and the marquee is tired (I can't imagine it was meant to still be up this long after Covid). The service is a real shame too, used to be great and now quite aggy. Used to think it was kid friendly but actually, they don't have any kids juice drinks so to get them a portion of chips and an orange juice it's £9, kids pizza £8 (and it's small), really limited options and whilst the garden is great- it's not a place to just drop by for a drink.

Four stars is too much and three stars too little. It is 12.5% cheaper to eat in the bar dining area as they don't levy service charge there - you order at the bar and fetch your own pizza from a shed outside. For pub food it is quite expensive. As a group of four, two had pizzas and they were very good. But they are only being served in summer apparently. They were large and well topped. We took some leftovers away which they kindly wrapped in foil (they need to invest in some boxes). The haloumi burger was good. It's hard to screw that up! My wife liked the thin chips but professed the roll top to be rather tough. So I ate it. I had fish and chips with smashed peas and thin chips. The fish had a rather wet "I've been frozen" feel to it and tasted of very little. The batter was good. The pea puree tasted strongly of mint, had no seasoning and was very watery. The chef here needs to taste what he produces. Fish and chips were 5/10. Interior was nice. Loos needed a proper deep clean and smelt very strongly of disinfectant. Mixed and mainly positive experience overall. We will try it again in due course.

We visited the Milk House for a meal. My friend had a chicken burger. ( I think it was described as) and chips. I had the vegan curry. My friend said hers had 3 chicken fillets in. Very good and plenty of chips. My vegan curry was served with cauliflower rice, nan and raita and it tasted lovely. I think the curry was a little small for the money, but the quality made up for it. Very generous menu with lots of choice for everyone. Also fresh pizzas being served outside which looked delicious.lovely garden and views outside. Play area for kids. Marquee outside indicating they have special events at times. Toilets were beautifully clean, a pleasure to use. I can't comment on the rooms as we were only visiting for food. However based on the standard of everything else I believe they will be lovely. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Nice restuarant, good service and wide menu. The lunch was compromised due to a music festival in operation at the time of visit. Lunch was OK in terms of quality but expensive for a single burger without salad or fried. Dinner was much better but still expensive which was compounded by the 12.5% service charge.

We were disappointed as this pub was highly recommended. There was relatively little flexibility with meeting dietary needs, the fish was a little over-cocked and the meal could only be described as average. Run on a canteen style - collect your own cutlery etc, and if having pizzas, its self collection for these as well. There are much better places to visit nearby.

Went for lunch with my Grandad, Mum and 2 children (2 yr old and 5 month old) have never been made to feel less welcome. Hillary greeted us and when we asked if there was a table in the restaurant she advised there was but the garden might be better, this left us feeling like we were not welcome in the restaurant. I can only assume this was because of my children (they are well behaved, we make a point of eating out with them as a family and I had sticker/colouring books to keep the 2 yr old entertained). We sat in the bar however this is not table service, my Grandad is 86 years old and not mobile enough to be collecting cutlery from one place, condiments from a fridge outside etc, I was looking after my children which meant my poor Mum was having to fetch everything and place our orders at the bar. We were not offered a highchair until after I complained about the way we had been treated. We will not be returning which is such a shame as the food was very good and we are local.

Everything about our visit was perfect – the restaurant is beautiful, bright, clean, comfortable; the staff were welcoming, attentive, helpful; and the food was sensational. Every dish beautifully prepared and presented, and so full of flavour. I had (top left in photo) juniper crusted lamb fillet with potatoes, parsley, pea shoot, soya bean, feta & black olive salad, smoked aubergine houmous. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a meal more. All style no substance... My parents live not far from here and whenever we drive past it's always busy and lively. We finally visited for lunch today after years of saying we should and to be honest I wish we hadn't bothered... We arrived at around 3.30pm (5 adults and a 1 year old) and were seated in the garden by a member of staff. At no point did they mention kitchen times or make clear service would be stopping shortly. So we ordered some drinks, enjoyed the garden as the grounds are lovely, and chatted for a bit while we found the menus. The table was dirty when we arrived as were the highchairs, one of which had a broken leg and was fixed with duct tape. No one arrived to clean the table but we made do with some Milton wipes and cleaned the table ourselves along with the high chair. When we got to the bar at 3.50pm we were informed that the kitchen had just closed... The pub itself doesn't shut until 10pm on a Sunday so we were a bit baffled that food had stopped. When we queried what we could order (if anything) the chap behind the bar just said it's says the kitchen shuts at 4pm on the website and they do a deep clean of the kitchen which takes a long time. Granted the 4pm cut off is listed on the website, but at the very bottom of the homepage in small font - not anywhere where it's clearly visible and it's something that's certainly not reiterated by the staff. The website also states they shut at 4pm, but then reopen between 6-8pm for a reduced menu(?) Not sure what sort of logic that is.... Also we ordered 10mins before the cut off so not sure why (in hindsight) we were refused service. Frankly it just felt like the staff didn't want to be there. Disappointed but not wanting to let it ruin the visit we ordered what food was available, which was pizzas from the wood fired oven. Again I wish we'd left at that point and saved our appetites for a proper Sunday lunch at one of the other local pubs. The pizzas were so bland and tasteless and one we ordered with a meat topping had one piece of meat on the entire pizza. Almost £100 for a drink each and a rubbish pizza. It's simply not worth the money. The staff were unbothered, tables and highchairs were dirty and broken, the glassware was questionably clean and stunk of damp, which made the drinks taste awful, and little to no food options on a Sunday afternoon. Do yourself a favour; go elsewhere.

An absolute gem of both a restaurant and pub set in the middle of Sissinghurst. Absolutely fantastic food, with plenty of choice for everyone, including imaginative and high quality vegetarian and vegan options. We visited here yesterday with a party of 10 for lunch (just food no accommodation). The service and interior of the gastro pub was lovely and couldn't really be faulted (they even made the effort for a gluten free member of our party). But the style and portion size of the starters and mains were slightly frustrating and underwhelming. I ordered the lobster and crayfish ravioli, which came with a small salad (as a starter, for £13) and all I got was a single ravioli parcel and some watercress leaves ontop as the salad. Same went with the side portion of Rosemary & garlic potatoes and these came as tiny chopped up cubes. Again, the style and type of food wasn't what we were expecting, they are obviously trying to market themselves at a certain customer but as an all rounder gastro pub I felt a bit let down by the food.

Myself and best friend travelling back to London stopped by and both said 10 out of 10 for everything. We both had fish and chips and a hazelnut and chocolate tart, plus a pistachio and candied peel filled cannoli. Cooked to perfection. The balance of sugar in the desserts was spot on. Not sickly sweet, just rich, flavoursome and delicious. We are wanting to now book a stay in one of the four lovely rooms later this year as a weekend escape! Thanks to the entire team. The decor is great but chairs uncomfortable and the first young waitress we had was really good but the rest of them not so good. The food is quite expensive for what you get, they are trying to pull off London dining i think but it doesn't work. Duck bon bons were soggy and not much duck filling but the drizzle over the salad was nice and then the cod and chips, the cod tasted bland and watery no seasoning so think it was frozen which is a big no for me when im eating out, i want fresh food.

I attended a Saturday night slot. There were a few empty tables, so not bustling. We stood at the door for ages being ignored before I had to walk over and ask the waitress staring at us if we could be seated. I could not even order a glass of wine with dinner as the waitress brought the drinks menu and never returned until we were finished eating and ready to pay. We were also seated at a table facing an intersection which meant being periodically blinded by car lights- curtains were decorative only. The staff generally all seemed to have a miserable disposition. The food was not bad but the experience overall was unsatisfactory.

The pub/restaurant was packed for Mother's Day, and there were clearly lots of happy eaters! My review will focus on a couple of other key points that can often get lost in food reviews. 1) Kindness and 2) Accessibility. 1) The manager/owner, Sarah (?), was thoughtful and attentive. Her team were all equally sympathetic and professional, and they hid any possible stress well beneath their authentic warm welcomes and swift and attentive service. 2) There is disabled access, there is enough space for a wheelchair, there are corner tables that provide slightly quieter dining experiences (especially important for autistic people like me), and the toilets are ample and very clean. To top it off, the food was well-served and yummy! What a fabulous venue.

The service was unfortunately poor. Once sat down it was some time before we got the opportunity to see a menu. We seemed to have a different staff member at each interaction which felt a little disjointed. Once out table was cleared we had to prompt a waitress to get us a dessert menu. It wasn't that there was a poor ethic rather than they had no strategy in dealing with what was a busy restaurant. I would recommend in the hope this was isolated and the food was excellent.

Lovely food in a pretty pub environment but the surly service and cold dining room let this dinner down. I've been three times now and had the same experience so it's sadly not a one off.

Lovely place and setting with good beers and food, staff are good and the food I had was excellent. The pub garden is Argue with play area for children and plenty of covered areas when it’s raining

Visited with a group of 16 language students with only a day's notice and everything was fantastic. Not only was my answer phone message about our visit replied to, (so many times it's just ignored) but we had a fantastic table laid out for us, everyone was dealt with really quickly at the bar and the grazing snacks we ordered were brought out super fast. A great cultural experience for my students and all done with smiles. Will definitely be putting this pub on future itineraries.

We are just parking up at the milk house, hopefully food and drink are good. What I can say, is the parking is definitely a good experience. It's mostly gravel with a smaller tarmacked area, roughly 30 spaces total. Unfortunately I was thirsty so I couldn't stop long to count them precisely. 5/5 parking.

Wonderful lunch in the pretty pub garden. Ducks in a pond, beautiful view. Fresh made pizzas cooked In a wood fired oven outside in the summer. Great ingredients, so much topping and a vegan option to top it all. Friendly, attentive staff. Looking forward to our next visit when we are staying over.

Great pub with large beer garden, covered marquee area and small playground/climbing frames. Excellent pizzas and decent beer selection. Friendly service. Ideal for families. The ducks were a hit with our toddlers!

Really want this pub to be good, but every time we try the food is terrible. I know the pizzas and burgers are popular but the al a carte menu just never delivers. I suspect the kitchen staff aren’t actually qualified. They try, with good ideas, but cannot execute. The dogs don’t even eat the chicken. That says something when Labradors refuse meat! Sadly the MH don’t want to discuss improvements. Milk Fest is very popular but they charge £1 per ‘glass’ deposit and then refuse to return. Nice scam. Customer service is ok if you’re happy with teens. Lots of teens on minimum wage who are incredibly polite considering. The owner however is rude and unprofessional. The environment is nice. Toilets could do with more frequent attention. Won’t ever return, despite being on a good dog walk route. There are MUCH better local pubs if you’re visiting Cranbrook area who serve good food with professional service. It should be a good pub with well created food. It isn’t.

Found the manageress less than child friendly and often quite rude. It's a shame because otherwise it would be nice.

Since retiring 12 years ago, we have had many meals , good, and indifferent at National Trust properties….this was undoubtedly the best. The menu board said “Chicken, Bacon and Tarragon Stew” which almost put me off! Glad it didn’t, as it was beautiful. In fact if it had been served in a French restaurant I would have been delighted. I very well run restaurant , definitely one of the best NT ones.

I was blown away by the attention to detail during our stay. Right from the start, the staff were welcoming and helpful. As we stepped into the room—wow! The ambiance was amazing, from the music playing on the vintage-style radio to the little cakes and the ‘Happy Anniversary’ note. Dinner and breakfast were delightful—the best sea bass and mash we’ve ever had, compliments to the chef. We left feeling truly relaxed and rejuvenated.

We were looking forward staying here, but so disappointing our massages got cancelled two days before staying, the room was disappointing toilet was running water all night and the bed was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever stayed in, mattress so hard that I even tried sleeping in the chair in the room. Dated rooms and bathroom needs attention, plug didnt fit the bath and the coffee and tea tray had to put the kettle on the floor as no socket for it. Room service approx hour wait for a sandwich, to be fair it was a really good sandwich though. Breakfast very tasty but over 45 minutes wait and had a hair on the sausage! Also had to ask for our toast as got forgotten and the staff were so rushed that you couldn't even talk to them. Staff all rushed off their feet so no reflection on them, poor management I suspect not hiring enough people and trying to get them to do too much. Also walls are paper thin in the rooms, can hear when people are going to the toilet and hear full conversations. Needs work to get it up to par for a 4 star hotel.
