The Met Bar in Scarborough

Drinks are not the real thing. Fob u off with saying it is. RUBBISH I have worked and worked pubs all my life and that was not Bacardi. Had no brandy in a PUB -really

Used to be such a nice place. Now utter karaoke/cabaret trash. It's going for a Brits abroad vibe. Not my sort of place. If you have tattoos, vape and like ITV4 you'll probably like it. As I say, it used to be lovely. What a waste.

Well we always come for goth weekends and have been for years. We got tickets for a gig that was cancelled last minute. Another amateurish pub band was put on its it's place and they're charging a fortune for tickets for what it is. I've seen better at my local boozer. I wasn't going to come but the obnoxious landlord wouldn't have any of it and refused a refund! Spoke to the older woman that works there or is the manager or something, goodness was a thoroughly foul woman. My partner and I and our group of friends that always come have spent a fortune at this place so to be treated like this is not on. They blamed the band for double booking but I know a guy who works with the band and he's shown me proof that the venue never booked it in the first place and they're on tour abroad so why would they even be in Whitby? Rip off they knew how popular the band were and were just using them to get punters! We're going elsewhere in future. Many said the same. The place was almost empty part way through the night. If this is how they treat people The Met's days are numbered!

Lost custom. Favouritism at it's finest. Allows customers to hurl abuse and get to stay but others have to leave to be followed and abuse continued. Sort yourself out.

Staying nearby so thought we'd give the brekky a go, I had the big brekky, wife had full English, food not too bad but having to buy toast seperate is a bit overboard and should be included in both brekkys. We arrived at 10am just as the doors were opened and there was a really strong smell of bleach. We did call back at 4pm for a drink and hopefully a sun roast but they'd already stopped doing food. At that time there was football on TV and the place was pretty full and the young man behind the bar did well on his own but was struggling to keep up with demand. Drinks overpriced too.

A friendly bar with a good feel in the enjoyable surroundings of the former Metropole Hotel. We had a super breakfast and coffee for about a tenner each. Very enjoyable.

Top quality food and drink. Freindly service and a warm welcome. We will definitely be coming back next time we're in town

Visited this place yesterday. Its a strange looking place, a sort of cross between a Cafe and a bar and lacking any sort of atmosphere. I was also a bit concerned that the waitress/ bartender who was serving the food and drinks was not wearing a face covering ! The drinks prices are very expensive ( a pint and half of larger £ 9.60 ) Whitby has a lot better to offer elsewhere.

We called here last Wednesday, and the OAP menu was excellent. Couple of us had mince and dumplings _ delicious. Other has liver and onions who said it was best he'd ever had. Definitely going back for more !

Nice looking bar and well maintained with a nice selection of drinks. However, we felt unwelcome compared to many of the other establishments in town. Have been visiting Whitby for years and thought we'd try the Met Bar as it was close to our accommodation this time. We felt pretty out of place and as though this place was only for locals. No attempt to engage in conversation/ask if we needed another drink and 'locals' not wearing masks or following the entry/exit procedures as us 'tourists' are so often lambasted for not doing. Nice enough if you have nowhere else to go but there's plenty of other choices with staff that clearly want your trade.

A lovely spot to stop by and meet friends or make new ones! Good selection of draft beers and plenty of different flavours of gin! The Met are now also serving bistro type meals and afternoon teas which are all homemade and very generous on the portion sizes! There are tables both inside and out so you can watch the sunset from inside or outside depending on the weather and if you are really lucky you may see the dolphins playing out at sea. Ideal spot to visit if you don’t want to trail all the way into town. Not many bars with a good sea view like this one! Staff very pleasant and polite. :-)

Booked this place for our wedding reception and had no option but to cancel with 2 weeks to go. Awful service, rude, awful people, incredibly difficult to deal with. Promises made when booking were not kept. The price kept creeping up and when we visited the venue to discuss how we wanted things to be done on the day were we shouted at because they were too busy to see us. If you use this place, get what they are offering in writing before paying a deposit. I made that mistake and as a result the total price (even after paying a deposit) kept going up and up. I never got my deposit back either. They're rude, obnoxious, arrogant and they don't care about you. Don't give them your money.

On arrival, we found the apartment exactly as seen in the images online. We had feared that it would be smaller than it appeared as they seemed too good to be true but the standard of decor, furnishings and appliances were of an excellent quality. We decided against staying in a hotel because of the time of year. We knew the weather might not always be kind to us so we needed something more than a hotel room, a place to feel at home for the evening with the being forced outside to eat when it was inclement outside. The ApartMet was perfect, allowing us to decide whether to eat out, cook or order a takeaway. With Sky Tv and Netflix there was always entertainment whatever the weather. I can't comment on the lounge bar or the Chinese Restaurant in the same building, other than we heard no noise of cooking odours, as we did not visit them. The Met Lounge bar always seemed to be fairly busy when we passed by,a sign of good service? All in all, being only a short walk from the town centre and with a fantastic view of the beach I would highly recommend this property and we will definitely be looking to stay here again.

This is a place we've used for years, being in the same building. It has been smartened up a bit over the years, but it's selling point is the view over the sea, and the tables outside in summer, on the days it's not blowing a gale. We've always felt it should be much busier than it is, given it's location and how little competition there is within an easy walk. Maybe if they reduced their ambitious prices a bit they'd be full more often.

Called in for a pint on Thursday 01/August 2019 in the afternoon was served with a very nice pint of Murphy's Stout by a lady with short dark hair who was probably in her late 30s to mid 40s . She must have the best legs in Whitby absolutely gorgeous it must be all that walking up and down hills that they do , the woman in question was wearing a pair of short shorts she could win a prize with legs as sexy as hers are they are cracking Ding Dong will deff be calling there again for a pint and a view like that !

The concept is great but the idea does not play out. Having live music in a building with a listed ceiling that cannot be sound-proofed and due to that the noise carries to the flats above and then many complaints arise. Best to stick to the Pavilion if you are in Whitby for some live music. The building does look good, but looks are not everything ;)

We stayed in the Metropole apartments, above the bar, and often utilised this place for its convenient position on the ground floor. We found it a particularly friendly place with a lovely position above the beach huts with amazing views out to sea. There was a fine selection of wines and cask ales available, and we took full advantage of the fact. Although we never saw the ballroom, we often saw people going through to check it out for forthcoming weddings and parties. There is a large conservatory on the front of the bar and plenty of car parking spaces.

Sólo llamado porque era el único bar cerca de donde estábamos, de lo contrario hubiéramos elegido uno de los muchos bares en el centro.

Gran bar situado en la planta baja de lo que fue un antiguo hotel de estilo victoriano, que ahora es un bloque de apartamentos en el West Cliff de Whitby.Gran grandes ventanas y techos altoscomo tal el mar vistas desde este lugar son excepcionales, especialmente en la tarde, cuando el temprano en la noche el lugar es absolutamente bañada por el sol. (cuando el sol brilla).La selección de cervezas no es nada especial, pero no hay mucho para elegir.Cuando le pregunté al propietario/camarero sobre la zona el hizo y encima para ayudarme. (el chico con el bigote).Para redondear hay un restaurante chino al lado de la vuelta de la noche.Días felices.

Éramos un grupo de 4 adultos y 2 niños y hambre para comer el domingo. La comida era deliciosa, caliente y verduras y salsa más que suficiente y más ofreció, no podríamos haber comido más, todos estábamos muy llenos. Los niños, un montón de juegos para los niños.

Llamado en un par de veces en nuestra reciente estancia en Whitby. Recientemente renovado a un muy alto nivel.Cordial bienvenida del personal y un gran servicio. Niños con juegos disponibles para jugar. Una amplia selección de bebidas, Birra Moretti es un deber! ! Lo mejor de todo son las vistas al mar.Nos aseguraremos de volver.

Much improved since our last visit, the bar has been decorated which makes it a far nicer place to spend a bit of time. The beer was good & the service was also good.

Lounge bar newly decorated with comfy chairs. Lovely chandelier and interesting paintings. Was a bit quiet the night we were in but playing good music for us 50/60 ish kids!

Wonderful staff, so friendly and welcoming, it will always be on my list when I return to Whitby! They hope to serve food in the near future which will be fantastic!

We had a lovely evening with family celebrating New Years Eve. The buffet the was fantastic and plenty of choice. The ballroom has recently been redecorated and looks very nice and more sophisticated,I do like the grey decore. Will definitely return next year and recommend to friends.

Good choice of drinks including ales. Furniture could be more comfortable in the bar. Went to Sexy Sunday in the Ballroom at Goth weekend which was a great event. Can get bar meals and staff are friendly.

Visited Friday evening, great food , loved the atmosphere and loving the new look, very modern well done to the landlord for the progress made since last visit

Just been in for the Sunday carvery, spot on! Great choice of three meats (generous portions) and plenty of potatoes and veg to choose from, all at a very good price. Super sea view too. Highly recommend.

Tired old place, a few noisy locals & folks having a quick drink waiting for their Chinese takeaway next door. ..nothing inviting me back I am afraid

only went there for soul weekend. the place needs renovation (apart from the toilets). If i were going o stay there i,d check the reveiws first.

We had the burgers and chips from the friday night 2 for £10 offer. It was very filling consisting of onion rings,relish,lettuce,bacon and wedge chips.The only downside was the bacon was very greasy so it was a bit off putting.

We always go here or I should say the kids always ask to go here when in Whitby kid friendly place no evils off staff for kids been kids! Little area for kids as well so if kids happy parents happy happy parents spend more money shame some other pubs don't get this!!!

Good honest place, quiet night when we were there, Tasty food, simple, friendly staff, has a good reputation on eventful nights which we missed

Had another great home cooked Sunday carvery with a group of friends. Been back many times before and you get exactly what you would expect.... I great roast, at a great price, served in a welcoming, friendly, family run pub.We shall be returning soon to try the tasty looking Friday night burger menu (diet permitting!)

Stumbled across this place during our stay in whitby. Fabulous views out to sea,good selection of drinks,and a mighty fine lasagne. Visited the next day for the Sunday carvery and was equally pleased with the lovely meat and veg on offer. Our children and dog were welcome too,and there was a nintendo wii set up to keep the kids entertained..nice touch! Overall this place doesn't look much from outside but it was a really lovely find!

We went to the met on Friday , after seeing the new menu advertised, I can honestly say it's one of the best and definitely home cooked meals I have had , no gimmicks just good homemade meal, I will be back and recommend the new menu , you won't be disappointed

terrible, don't bother, even though it's close by. Think it is run by locals for locals, and therefore don't welcome 'outsiders'
