Mysterious, Quirky, Intriguing and most certainly very original and different. Whilst the Fort Perch Rock as a fort is closed to the public, the Cafe Eatery inside and open air and along the ramp is open and worth trying out. The Cafe is atmospherically dark like the bowels of a ship but quite an experience and the food menu is very reasonable. Be brave ..... and visit .... just for an experience.

A quirky place to go and on the doorstep. We took a group to the escape rooms and ate before going in. The staff were amazing. Pizzas and burgers were substantial and jackets well presented. The youth really enjoyed the escape rooms. A great night for everyone. Thanks for understanding Liz’s situation and your kind hospitality.

What a little gem! Popped in to grab a drink on a visit to the area and were enchanted Very inviting, decor is comfortable and relaxing- perfect for light bite, drinks after work or evening out it’s somewhere that should be in every town and city Menu is good - light bites such as sandwiches etc but intriguing it has nibbles after 7 (think it was that time) which is a fab thing to have when having drinkies ! We did have light bite of crumpets ( but while hot they could do with a bit more toasting - seems to be an issue everywhere though so not holding it against them ) We will be back to the area (great walk on the very long promenades) and definitely make sure we come here again Pop in it is really a lovely lovely hidden gem

We went on the spare of the moment, plus we prefer independant places rather than chain. Staff extreamly friendly and welcoming. They dealt well with the lady in front of my partner in the queue, who kept stating she was vegetarian and wanted "something substanlte" and she could clearly see what was on the menu and holding up everyone being served. They where polite and professional suggesting different options to her!!... Food was freshly made and well worth the money, we will definitely be visiting again

Me and my partner have been here many times with are Dogs 🐕 walking .But today found that the prices have gone right up £2.75p for a bottle of Diet coke rip off you can get a large bottle for 1.70 in the big shops and we had Hot chocolate cream marshmallows Cappuccino lemon cake Bakewell tart £17.60 very expensive and not value for money as its a Shame as we have been at least 25 times over the last few years £5.20 for the hot chocolate a year ago it was £3.50 .You need to look at your prices to keep customers as we won't be returning again as we are always in New Brighton

Beautiful location, and really well decorated. I love Fort Perch. However, the service was appalling - no interaction from the staff who seemed to want to be anywhere else. We ordered a soy and ordinary milk coffee (I can't have milk as it makes me unwell). The waitress come and placed them on the table. When I asked which one was mine, she was like erm that one. It wasn't mine - guess work for people with allergies or intolerances is quite worrying. The menu was also stained/dirty which was off putting. The drinks themselves were nice.

We’ve visited three times recently, the first time just to get out of the rain. Each time the service was friendly, good coffee, and very nice cakes. The first time we sat inside by a log fire which got us warm and dry. The other times it was full inside but we found space outside with good views along the Mersey. The rest of the fort looks a bit derelict to be honest, but the cafe is comfortable, welcoming and atmospheric. We’re not normally often in the area but we’ll look forward to going again next time we’re around.

Gorgeous looking place and staff are really friendly. Let down by the fact the food is of poor quality, bargain basement ingredients for mid range prices, waited half n hour for food and considering there was only us and one other couple there I didn’t expect such a long wait for a sausage butty. Honestly, get better quality ingredients and a more efficient system to manage orders. Maybe the manager should be about?

I'm new to this place. I joined a friend walking her dog, and we dropped in for a brew, and snack afterwards. It's very dog friendly. I've been twice in the last week, and it's likely to become a staple. It's a lovely place made all the more interesting, what with it being in a fort. Cosy too, specially when the real fire's going. There's a decent menu with everything from nibbles to main meals, and a good selection of cakes and pastries. And to drink, tea, and various coffees. On my visits I've had a bacon & sausage toastie, and second time, crumpets. Each with a pot of tea. My friend had the tea and toasted teacakes. All the food, drink, was really nice. There's a lovely, relaxed, atmosphere here, and the staff were warm and welcoming. There was a little wait second visit. But it was a lot busier that time. That said, we were in no hurry so this didn't bother us. Now I'm aware of it, i'll definitely be revisiting whenever i'm in the town.

we travelled over from Aintree just to experience an evening in the fort. we were not disappointed , we had been once before in the summer for coffee and cake and were so annoyed because many years ago we were told that the fort was a museum and very expensive to get in.What a load of rubbish that information was. We turned up and the young guy behind the bar showed us several tables that we could choose from, obviously we took the one in front of the fire,it was freezing cold outside. We enjoyed a decent sized ante pasta plate and a drink all at a reasonable price as well. Service was quick and the two young lads from the bar were pleasant and took time out to chat with so many people,it was nice to see .The artist was really worth coming out for,he played piano and guitar and sang a great mix of music to suit everyone. Don't listen to the know all's of this world, behind the great big doors is a really nice little bar ,we listened all those years ago and now feel as if we missed out on some lovely chatty nights for both of us. Keep up the good work you guys,we've told loads of people about the Mess and will certainly return soon

This was about the 5th visit I'd had today. 2 young servers working that need more training. I waited patiently for two people to be served before me. When I was only person stood at counter, I should have received eye contact & at least a smile, an acknowledgement that I was waiting should be obvious. Instead I felt like the invisible woman while male server worked right in from of me with head down. Awkward. Finally the female server said 'won't be long' without turning round from the coffee machine. When I was served I was told no pie, despite it being advertised on Facebook as being on the winter menu & specific reason we went. We had Scouse instead, although it was delicious, it was such a really small portion I was still hungry, and not cheap for £10.95. I was with my 92 Yr uncle who was so disappointed no home made pie, he was also cold, the fire had all but died out - I had to put logs on myself. It's a shame because I've been before and an older lady was very accommodating, and the coffees are lovely.

We visited for a lunch with grandchildren. We had lovey toasties, all different and all good. My 6yrs old scored his cheese and ham toastie 100 out of 10 he liked it so much! The hot dog scored high as well. Friendly staff, fairly busy but great service. Unusual setting in the Fort. We liked our visit last week so much we've been again today!

Not consistent at all , sometimes go in and its fine , next time you go in its poor (bacon butty) . Seems to be a lot of staff turnover . Cake selection is usual costco stuff . It could be so much more . Went in today and it was ridiculous had radio on then it felt like full on drum and base inside because there was a DJ outside ???? A member of our party tried to go to the toilet but the door was shut and need a code to get through that door ? Then large group of people came in all the males had their tops off and no footwear . Come on I don’t know of any other cafes that allow that in New Brighton , very basic etiquette even of beach cafes .

We were looking for the meeting pont for a Wallasey walking tour and asked here. Whilst they cold not help about that, the staff were so friendly and helpful, when we returned from the walk and wanted a hot drink, we called back in. We opted for a sausage and bacon toastie for my husband and I had the steak ale pie. The staff were again really lovely and although the food was slow to arrive, when it arrived, it was piping hot, the porton sizes were really good and both options were very tasty. It was an interesting location and whilst the cafe was quiet, the staff were not idle, as they were wiping down all the surfaces and walls. The place was really clean and whilst it was quite dark (commented on in another review), it was a very gloomy day outside and they had plenty of lights on and the log burner was especially welcome, as it was blowing a gale from the east outside. The toilets were rather basic and really needed a refurb but they were clean and working and that's what is the most important. With the free car park as well, we were really happy with our "find" and certaily intend to return.

We had tea and tea cake here one afternoon. The ambience is rather dark and gloomy but it is inside an old fort. Service slow (they had to go out for more milk) and food and drink were nothing special but OK. Worth a visit for its unique location.

Great staff, lovely building. However the food today let us down, it was appalling. Two bacon and sausage sandwiches on white bread. One sausage cut in half per sandwich. Slither of bacon between very thin poor quality bread. Not exactly cheap either at £5 for basically half a sausage and two rashes of bacon between two. Not great when we are trying to support local independents. If they had said they were low on ingredients that’s fine and we would have understood.
