The Mesmerist in Brighton and Hove

Came here on a Saturday and was queuing for the upstairs bar when 2 girls pushed infront of me in the line. I asked if they were pushing in, but the torrent of verbal abuse I received for them was unexpected. Apparently these 2 lovely ladies work here aswell (so I'm assuming they knew how a queue worked) and finished their shift earlier in the day. Left a sour taste in my mouth as I've had plenty of fun nights here but makes me wonder what kind of people this bar employs

Lovely little place to pop in for a drink, we happened to stumble across it. Great selection of drinks on top, nice decor, nice vibe, staff were nice.

Not eaten here but always good service and great selection of ales. The Pubbl reward scheme is a bonus as this is one of the North Laines' pubs.

We had a table booked as the menu looked really good but wernt told it was changing the day we were visiting. The food was ok but not what we were hoping for. The music was good though and service was too.

Genuinely the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was stood at the bar for well over ten minutes on a not particularly busy Saturday afternoon waiting to be served. There were three or four bar staff on and in that entire time only one group of people were served. The staff seemed more interested in faffing around on their phones. I’m relatively easy going and understanding when it comes to customer service- but I cannot overstate how utterly abysmal this was. I have been to some pretty poor venues, but this was so dreadful that it has inspired me to actually leave a bad review. Didn’t end up staying for a drink as I had completely run out of patience, and I’m quite glad that I didn’t end up giving any money towards a business that clearly has not respect for its customer’s time.

Came to the Mesmerist for lunch with my partner to try the new Tex Mex menu as I am a huge fan of Mexican food. And it did not disappoint! I am vegetarian and had the birria quseadillas, chorizo taquitos and crispy cauliflower from the vegan menu (which can be made veggie) and it was absolutely delicious! The closest thing I've eaten to proper chorizo since turning veggie. Proper comfort food! I will be back

Delicious food, lovely staff and great vibe. Popped in after a hard morning shopping at the lanes and had lovely lovely lunch. Tacos were delicious and the beer battered cauliflower was amazing! Great option

The restaurant had a great vibe. The menu was brand new and we tested a few of the items. I personally had the brisket burger and it was moist and had great flavor. 10/10 recommend.

Visited her for Sunday lunch after our original booking elsewhere had to be cancelled due to the venues unforeseen circumstances. If I'm honest, it's not the sort of place we would have normally booked for food. However, we were very pleasantly surprised - the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious. I can highly recommend the pork belly! Generous portion sizes too. Would definitely return.

Booked for Bottomless brunch for a hen do! Waitresses were so helpful and very quick to refill drinks! The food would have been 5 stars if there was more of it- delicious, but slightly smaller portions! I would maybe book later on in the day when it’s busier

We hired the Flipside for my daughter’s 21st party and what an absolutely brilliant night it was. 🍹🕺 The venue is just so cool - retro, intimate, not too large and not too small - cosy, warm and to be honest I’d happily live there! 🤣 Ollie, our fantastic bartender for the night went above and beyond right from the moment we arrived, helping us put up some decorations, being so attentive the whole time - I honestly don’t know how he keeps up that level of professionalism and friendliness for so long! Thank you so much Ollie - you really made the evening extra special and Charlotte is still on a high from the evening’s shenanigans!

Rapid service, and a delicious pint of Brixton Atlantic. Friendly staff, and a very decent range of craft beers. 👌

Had a few drinks, if a little expensive, but great choice of craft beers, great atmosphere with good music, didn't eat but really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Me and my friends hosted our leaving drinks in the function room upstairs and had an incredible night! The room itself was amazing, with great decor, plenty of room for the 100ish people that attended PLUS the added bonus of a dedicated smoking area which I thought was a great touch. Also, Ollie bossed the bar all night! Even when the bar was full of people waiting to order he handled it with professionalism and charisma. Great night elevated by great hosts and staff 👏.

Its a pub. Went on a quiet day and loved how kind the service staff was. Looks like place that has great ambiance and good vibes in the evening when the lights are low. I only had a drink, which was an amaretto sour in disguise but the good I saw in passing looked and smelled delicious

Hosted my 21st birthday here in their Flipside function room and it was amazing. The bar staff (Ollie and Ollie) were amazing and very friendly. Great price as well at £250 for a whole Friday night in a private function room.

After seeing the Umami nation menu for this place we were eager to try it. However it did not live up to expectations. Bar service was good but the food took an hour to come and by the time it had arrived was average at best. The teriyaki chicken burger was burnt and had to be requested to be made again. Admittedly was better on the second attempt but by the time it had arrived, we had all finished eating. The three plates for £18 i found incredibly overpriced for what was bought out. The salt and pepper squid was the nicest but not amazing. The chicken satay skewers were burnt and a very small amount of chicken (2 very small skewers). And for £7 the pork belly bao bun was a complete rip off. 2 very small dry and burnt bits of pork in a singular bun with a small amount of slaw. Not worth £7 at all. Drinks were priced reasonably for a pub of its location but found the atmosphere on a Friday night to be quite disturbing having gone to the toilet to see someone sniffing c****** in the cubicle. All in all was incredibly disappointed for the price we paid and the quality of food received. Would not recommend

Went to the Mesmerist on Saturday for their Halloween night with my pals. Had the best night we’ve had in a long time. The pub is nice and spacious, good range of drinks and friendly staff. Highlight of the whole thing, one of the guys that works there (Marcus) is a magician and hypnotist and he absolutely made the night something special… He’s better than David Blaine! Brilliant entertainment and very suitable for a place called ‘The Mesmerist’. Will definitely come again.

Popped into the Mesmerist on a whim during a night out and there was a magician named Marcus walking around performing. He was absolutely incredible! (@mlmagic on instagram). Would definitely recommend this venue and recommend they get Marcus back, or you go and see him wherever hes performing!

We attended a private event here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food put on by the host was very nice and catered to the dietary requirements in the room well. Great bar in the heart of Brighton!

Went for a couple of drinks and spontaneous dinner mid-week with my girlfriend. Staff were all really friendly and accommodating (thanks to our waiter Rhys who was really nice and was v good with our pet chihuahua). Good range of drinks available, and food was v tasty and reasonably priced. The pub was exactly what we were looking for and I'd definitely go back again.

Fairly quiet when we walked in on Tuesday at lunchtime. The staff were just super mega friendly, the menu is about the right size so it didn't take us ages to choose what we were having, and the food was absolutely lovely! We both ordered the beef burger with loaded fries, it was all served within 20-25 minutes, and it was all freshly made! ❤️

I booked The Mesmerist for my birthday party and had an amazing time! There was a large group so we had The Flipside room to ourselves, which is a great private space with its own toilets and smoking area. The service was excellent, the staff were always happy to help with any requests. We chose to do bottomless brunch and never ran out of drinks. There's also a really wide choice of drinks, rather than just prosecco like a lot of other places. The only reason I am giving 4/5 rather than 5/5 is that some of the attendees told me they didn't like the food and that the vegetarian/vegan options could be more substantial (although I personally loved the chicken tender waffles)

I had my 30th at the Birdcage this past September and Ella was helping behind the bar and she was great! Very helpful and worked really hard to keep everyone topped up. We had Buffet food that came out at 9 which was lovely and everyone was chuffed. Management was great (Im so sorry I've forgotten your name!) and kept checking in to make sure everyone was happy. Thanks everyone for an amazing evening!

We had the must beautiful time at my niece wedding reception on 9th September. The service, the food, the atmosphere, and the overall experience was amazing. A special thank you to marn'e who looked after us all day and to all the managers and staff thank you for making the day so special

Please save yourself the overpriced drink and do not go here. The absolute disappointment of this place is without a doubt the worst part. Was charged 11£ for a drink that was less than two ounces. The roof terrace has no views and no music. It is quite literally the worst bar I have been to. If you’re going to serve your drink in a kiddie cup, charge kiddie prices.

The mesmerist is great, and I have gone there many times asI love it. but on sat 2nd of sep 2023 one of the the security guards was THE MOST toxic I've experienced. We were meeting my girlfriend, for her birthday, at the mesmerist, but when trying to enter one security guard refused me and my friends entry on the basis that there was too many of us. There was five of us. I explained that my girlfriend was waiting for us, and I'd come from London to visit her. The other security guard clearly heard me, and let me in, and despite my concern, my friends simply told me to go ahead and they would find somewhere else. When passing the security guards, I saw one friend who was fairly new to the group looking concerned, and I realised it was because his girlfriend was inside. So I turned to try to explain. At this point, the first security guard grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and chucked me from the door way, with NO explanation, when I asked what the issue was he ignored me. I personally would like to see that the security guard is removed from this establishment, he clearly isn't interested in preventing problematic people from entering and has qn ego issue. He shouldn't the a security guard period let aloe at the mesmerist, as long as I see him there I will not attend and I will keep advising others not to attend.

Sadly food quality decreased since last time I have been here. prices instead, went up. Be careful when ordering from the “small plates” section of the menu, we took the chicken skewers, 3 tiny pieces together were shorter than my finger, so burned that all I could taste was charcoal! We had to send it back. They kindly offered an alternative. 2 Chicken skewers must have been no more than 50gr, £7 is ridiculously high to me! Same for the prawns, imagine the smallest prawns you can buy, 3 pieces each of the 2 skewers for £7! The staff is friendly and did what they could to offer a good service.

The top floor is fun at the weekends but a bit overcrowded and can take a while to get a drink. Stays open late.

Just got 2 cocktails..£22 and the guy didn't even wash the shaker when making a different cocktail, then forgot the salt on a Margarita. Tasted average, looked like they came from Weatherspoons.

Bron, and all staff were lovely and very helpful in advance of our visit - making sure everything was perfect for our brunch. We had the best time and highly recommend going to The Mesmerist for a Bottomless Bruch!

Their bottomless brunch was bad value for money with mediocre service. The whole bottomless brunch lasted for two hours but we only received our first drink 32 minutes after ordering it. 4 cocktails in 2 hours with a really small waffle with some chicken bits are not worth £37.5. We had to preorder the food but it only arrived 1.5 hours into the service too… I wouldn’t recommend it unless you were desperate to sit down somewhere. We were also charged £5 for entertainment who knows what it was because a Spotify subscription is cheaper than that 🙃

Good atmosphere but slow service for a timed bottomless brunch - first drink arrived 30 minutes into the two hour timeslot, food was great but this doesn't seem like a place that should offer bottomless brunch if it can only manage 4 drinks in 2 hours.

We waited nearly two hours for the food to arrive - which we had already pre ordered as it was a large group - and when it finally came, it was inedible. The photos speak for themselves. I can’t believe they actually thought it acceptable to serve food in that state - the food in the photos is supposedly pancakes and toast, in case you couldn’t decipher.

I couldn't believe such a nice pub would end up in such a mess. disappointed and embarrassed to recommend it to people. as i realize this is not going to change (manager) i feel even more sad because it was a shop with a good atmosphere, but now it is not good at all

Popped in for dinner with the kids: not a meal that I will remember. £7 for 1 bao and £7 for 5 pieces of tofu is way too much. Maybe they should revisit the prices or the portions of the food. Not recommended.

I used to come with my friends to mesmerist for many years. Recently, I realized that the management of the club has changed. You have left the management of the club to a 23 year-old boy, who is incapable of dealing with this responsible position and is close to destroying the whole bar and is behaving unacceptably to all the staff. As a former bartender, I find this very sad. Neither I nor my friends will come to mesmerist again.

Always have an amazing time at the Mes, this Saturday appeared to be crazy busy but still was provided with speedy service and a lovely atmosphere - hats off to whoever was managing - immaculate vibes will be back !!!!

Great team. The manager Reece and his team went out of their way to serve us the cocktails that we were looking for. Everyone seemed genuinely down to earth and made our team’s drinks fun! Thanks Mesmerist we will be back!

We went to the Mesmerist for bottomless brunch. They had just recently their kitchen menu but were yet to swap over the physical copies, so we didn't get exactly what we ordered but food and drink were delicious nonetheless. Our waitess Alex was an absolute star - she handled the situation well and ensured that we were cared for throughout our visit. Overall, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back, but we would hope that the lovely Alex gets a free cocktail for all of her efforts 😘

Not the friendliest place, me and my two friends felt quite unwelcome as soon as we walked in, and throughout the evening. Food and cocktails were tasty, but not worth the frosty atmosphere.
